The Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI) has been labeled as a traitor and a mole in the fight for a people driven constitution.

Deputy Chairperson of the Civil Society Constitution Coalition Judith Mulenga said it is good that YALI’s true colours have manifested following the organisation’s U-turn over the demand for a new constitution.

Ms. Mulenga who is also Executive Director of the Zambia Civic Education Association said the coalition had always suspected YALI of leaking information to the Government over the Coalition’s activities.

“What has happened is unfortunate but not surprising. We have always suspected comrade Andrew (YALI President Andrew Ntewewe) of being a mole and this has confirmed that he is a traitor. He has chosen to betrayal the collective resolve of the Zambian people,” Ms Mulenga said.

She said the backlash that has followed Mr Ntewewe after announcing his parallel 10 point constitution master plan is evident that Zambians are disappointed with YALI’s U-turn.

“It is clear that Zambians do not trust Andrew any more. All the radio or TV programme he has appeared on trying to explain his 10 point master plan, Zambians have told him off and it is good that his hand has been seen for what it,” she said.

Ms Mulenga vowed that the work of the civil society on the constitution will continue with increased vigour and resolve.

“We are not stopping here. We will continue carrying the message of the people that Zambia needs a new constitution now. We will not wait until after 2016 elections, a new constitution is a must now,” she said.

Ms. Mulenga also observed that the YALI Constitution Master Plan does not offer anything new besides differing on the need to have a referendum now.

“What they have produced is basically what we have been saying all along. The fundamental difference is on when we have the Referendum. We still insist that this constitution debate should not be tied to 2016 elections. We should have a referendum now and elections in 2016. We cannot postpone the constitution for convenience purposes,” she said.

YALI last week controversially broke ranks with the civil society movement in Zambia pushing for a new constitution after a leaked document submitted to Ministry of Justice showed that the youth run organisation was proposing enactment of a new constitution after the 2016 elections.

  1. Ntewewe is facing rape charges,,,,,,,, he know he cant differ or disaggress with pf govt
    without going to Jail!

    • Young Empty Stomach Initiative are trying to be in good books with the government. It is a sebana wikute initiative masquerading as an NGO for young leaders. Now that Sata is dead and Kabimba will soon be ousted- we will see who will laugh last.

    • YALI is like any other Zambian NGOs which can be bought by any ruling Govt, were is TIZ,SACCRD and other rubber stamp NGOs.Working with these NGO is risk because are corrupt and have no relevance in a democracy disperation because the lack drive and can’t be accountable to themselves except for their stomach at Levy junction.

    • I am not supporting YALI but I feel Mulenga is a not just a big mouth but a big traitor of true democracy too.

Why does she want every Zambian to speak what she wants them to speak.

  2. The trio are just a batch of Kaponya’s under Kabimba’s payroll!!

Urgently kick them out now and usher in new impartial leadership!!

  3. Listening to Andrew Ntewewe yesterday on MUVI TV was very sad, such a great sense of loss to see a bright young man ruin his future. Unfortunately, Andrew and his YALI are finished and no one will ever trust them again

  4. In my view YALI is being realistic and that’s the best way to go so that we don’t waste resources. Those agaist have a hidden agenda.

  5. I AM FOR THE CONSTITUTION BUT A WELL DONE ONE NOT A HALF DONE ONE. A REAL CONSTITUTION CANNOT TAKE A FEW MONTHS TO BE REALISED. THIS CONSTITUTION WHICH IS BEING RUSHED WILL NOT BE PEOPLE DRIVEN. IT IS HH DRIVEN. HH IS IN A HURRY TO PLOT ONE. ONCE THIS DRAFT CONSTITUTION IS RUSHED INT ENACTMENT THAT’S WHEN A HELL OF MISTAKES WILL START BEING APPARENT. I THINK YALI’S RIGHT. JUST AMEND THE CURRENT ONE AND LET’S TAKE TIME FOR THE NEW ONE.

    • @Peter:
Idi.ots like you think you need 100 years to come with a constitution – you are a joker! How many years has it taken already and how many more do you want?
You mo.ther fuc.kers can go to hell – like it or not we are going to have the new constitution before 2016!!

    • I cant blame you Peter- There are so many agendas with this Constitution- some are interested in quick fix to plot one, others like me want double citizenship, others seem not even to know what really they want in the new constitution, just noise and following the wind.

    • @CHILYATA, YOU DON’T SEEM TO UNDERSTAND ENGLISH. A SUGGESTION DOES NOT MEAN IT SHOULD BE LIKE THE SUGGESTION. AND HOW ARE YOU GOING TO HAVE THE CONSTITUTION WHEN YOU LIVE ABROAD? IN ZAMBIA ATI FIDIASPORA. I LIVE ABROAD AND I PERSONALLY WANT THAT CONSTITUTION NOW. I VE CHILDREN AND BY THE CURRENT CONSTITUTION THEY ARE NOT ZAMBIANS. MAYBE IWE NOKO NAWISO WOULD LIKE TO ABANDON YOU ANYWHERE. I WANT MY CHILDREN WHERE I AM. AS MY OTHER CRITIC @OLA (AWAMANO) HAS RIGHTLY SAID. EVERYONE HAS A HIDDEN AGENDA FOR THIS CONSTITUTION. THAT’S WHY IT WILL BE EVEN POORER THAN THE CURRENT ONE. SO, MAYBE AFTER 2016 WHEN PEOPLE LOSE ELECTION AND THEREFORE CONVINCED THEY WILL NEVER WIN- AGENDAS WILL BE TRIMMED TO A NEGLIGIBLE NUMBER AND THEREFORE THE HIGHER THE QUALITY OF THE NEW CONSTITUTION. YALI MAYBE…

    • IF THEY ARE GENUINELY OBJECTIVE ABOUT THE NEW CONSTITUTION, YALI, MAYBE RIGHT. I AM SAYING IT AGAIN. MOST CONTRIBUTORS TO THE AGENDA ARE ALL IN DIFFERENT DESPERATE SITUATIONS. OTHERS WANT TO BE ALLOWED TO SUCEDE, FIDIASPORA WANT DUAL CITIZENSHIP, HH THINK 50+ WILL TAKE HIM TO PLOT 1 AND NOT THE PEOPLE OF ZAMBIA, MAYBE CHITIMUKULU WOULD WANT ALL PARAMOUNT CHIEFS TO REVERT BACK TO BEING CALLED KINGS AS THEY WERE CALLED BEFORE AN ENGLISH MAN CAME AND SAID THERE IS ONLY ONE KING IN THE WORLD AND THAT WAS MAYBE KING GEORGE, MULONGOTI WOULD WANT MARIJUANA LIGALISED, ETC, ETC. BECAUSE HE THINKS EXPORTING MARIJUANA IS A SILVER BULLET AS COMPARED TO INDUSTRIALISATION OR MAYBE BECAUSE HE TAKES IT. SO, THATS WHAT YALI MAYBE SAYING.

    • @Peter:
I can only sympathise with people like you who dont know what they are doing or where they are going – Chimbwi no plan! Unlike you, I actually attended 2 District sittings by the constitution committee and made some contributions because I have an interest in our country. Without bragging, I have a small but very successful farm next to Yoko Farm and I have 2 IT service shops in Cairo Road – so I need a new sensible constitution.
If your children are not Zambians because they were born abroad (you call it diaspora) then this is because their Daddy is so useless that he NEVER even bothered to register them at the Zambian embassy who would have helped! I have 3 children born in the UK AND all of them are Zambian citizens with Zambian passports – THANKS TO ME!

    • #Chilyata, walasa………..all these *****s talking against the enactment of the constitution b4 2016 are just PF sympathisers………

  6. No need to demonize anyone who holds contrary views!
Remember how you demonized Chanda Chimba th prophet?
    Don’t repeat the same mistake!

  7. The grand coalition has the right to suspend YALI for violating members goal and for being a spy.this will be the wise and best move to do.

  8. ITS FUNNY HOW THE SAME CROOKS WHO BLAMED GOVERNMENT OVER BY-ELECTIONS AS A WASTE OF MONEY NOW CONDEMNING YALI FOR TRYING TO SAVE MONEY

  9. Chilyata is a caudillo who does not understand the tenants of democracy.Peter has simply expressed his opinion and you are insulting him because you are on HH s payroll. You must be a very useless citizen and should learn good manners.

    • @john: Usually I wouldnt have even bothered responding to empty numbskulls like you. I have always worked hard on my own and never depended on the corrupt PF Bemba dominated and tribalistic government like your.
I am an employer in Zambia and not even HH cannot afford to pay me. Yes HH would be more sensible as President compared to the and dinasours and hyenas we have in this PF Govt.
Lazy lackeys like you who depend on your tribes for survival must be worried at this time. All I want is a sensible constitution – nothing else! I am not like you who are dependent on PFjobs and cant even feed yourselves! No apologies to make – those PF Getriatrics of SataN and Scott are wasting our time and the sooner they get tossed out the better!!

  10. “BREAKING NEWS” – His excellency the president Michaels Mulenga Charlesi Katongo Mwango Ukwa Zondwa Sata has died. Radio Chitulika monitored in kwaMpika monitored the family jungle as being in the “mother of all ifililo” following their patriarch’s kicking of the bucket about an hour ago after a long battle with all sorts of stinking ailments, amalwele a kuiletelela umwine. To all Zambians, it’s good riddance.

  11. My UP & DOWN friends, please don’t resort to insults and bitter language when intellectually challenged by the opposing side.
How you answer tells volumes about what you stand for – peace or adversity!
    The choice is yours!

  12. YALI is a US State Department funded initiative, it’s another foreign funded QuaNGO. Like ZESN in Zimbabwe, which received a grant from Freedom House to denounce the 2013 elections when the AU and SADC approved them. They were of course ‘believed’ by the individuals who want to continue sanctions.

From their website’s (yaliafrica org) ‘About Us’ page:

” Who are we? The Young African Leaders’ Initiative (YALI or the Initiative) is an African-wide movement of young leaders established in 2010 after the President’s Forum for Young African Leaders held in Washington DC, USA. YALI was officially registered and incorporated as a Company By Limited Guarantee pursuant to Section 6 of the Companies Act on 6th January, 2011 under Certificate of Incorporation No. 892370. “

    • From the USAID’s YALI page:

Committing Resources to Developing Young Talent

Since 2010, the State Department has held fifteen exchanges specifically for young African leaders and sponsored 1,283 sub-Saharan scholars through its educational and cultural affairs programs. U.S. Embassies have awarded small grants totaling $750,000 to YALI alumni groups supporting youth development in Africa. Other State Department-led efforts, such as LIONS @FRICA and Apps4Africa, have focused on building an entrepreneurial ecosystem to encourage broad-based economic growth and opportunity for young entrepreneurs – partnering with the private sector to run startup competitions, grow incubators, and develop innovative new products to address local and business and development needs.

  13. Continued from the USAID page:

Since YALI’s inception, USAID has invested more than $100 million in over 76 partnerships with African universities to help train a new generation of African leaders in health, agriculture, education, environmental science, technology, and other sectors.

  14. Two simple questions to PF Cadres- Why did Sata/PF promise new constitution in 90 days? After winning elections why did they form Committee to draft a new constitution and spent K260,000,000,000, if there was no need for a new constitution?

  15. Since Sata formed constitution committee and then said that there is a constitution and no need for a new constitution, RECOVER k260,000,000,000 from his terminal benefits, and whatever is left unrecovered recover from Kabimba and other ministers’ salaries.

  16. WHEN IT INVOLVES MONEY ALL NGO’S ARE FOR SALE/SAME

IT IS JUST THE TIMING THAT IS DIFFERENT

THEY ALL HAVE A PRICE TAG.. ONCE IT IS MET YABA BANE….
