Opposition United Party For National Development (UPND) president Hakainde Hichilema has accused the Patriotic Front (PF) government of inducing the parliamentary by- elections in various constituencies across the country.
Mr Hichilema has charged in a statement released to media in Lusaka today that the forth-coming parliamentary by-elections were unprecedented, unnecessary and a waste of resources that should have been channeled towards poverty eradication to lower the cost of living for Zambians.
The UPND Leader claimed that the by-election clause was a luxury to a country as poor as Zambia adding that the money being spent on conducting the polls should have been used to purchase medicines in hospitals or pay farmers.
He noted that the price of mealie meal and other essential commodities are on the rise further claiming that the PF government was wasting money on by- elections with a view of increasing the numbers in parliament and manipulate the constitution adoption process.
Mr Hichilema has urged Zambians to reject the PF alleged schemes of wanting to manipulate the people’s constitution by voting for UPND candidates who he says will defend their interests.
He has also thanked his party members that expressed interest to contest on the party ticket in the forth coming by-elections in various constituencies.
Mr Hichilema said the selection process was not easy further claiming that UPND was the only party of choice and real alternative.
He has also urged the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) and law enforcement agencies to be firm and fair in their implementation of the law and not allow to be used by the ruling party.
But Chief Government Spokesperson Joseph Katema has advised the UPND Leader not to waste government’s time if he had no agenda for the Zambian people by engaging the State on issues that are baseless.
Dr Katema, who is also Information and Broadcasting Services Minister ,told ZANIS in an interview in Lusaka today that the three arms of government have the power to decide on what should be done.

So according to HH if candidates truly did corrupt people nothing must be done about it because it would be a waste of money. It is only the courts of law that can determine whether the allegations are true or not. This is a glimpse of how HH would run Govt. if he came to power. There goes under 5(HH) again .I think for sure HH of UPND is suffering from amnesia that is why he mistook MMD for PF when he stated that people supporting MMD are mad. How can he make such a statement when his party UPND is busy pushing for the expulsion both Siavonga and Itezhi-tezhi MP’s. If these 2 MP’s are expelled, won’t there be an induced double bye election?
Under 5 (HH) is just hallucinating. Let him first reverse the expulsion of Miyutu and Siamunene (UPND MP’s) for people to take him seriously. Bowman Lusambo has been vindicated and for sure UPND need a much more focused leader than HH to save the party from its declining popularity.

HH is raising concern about INDUCED(fake) by elections as opposed to genuine ones where an MP dies or is found with a criminal case to answer.
All these by elections are induced because, all these MPs were not charged with any corruption. If they were guilt why are they not arrested and locked like mulongoti. By elections are induced to punish people who do support PF.

A resource is such an important factor in developmental agenda and it should not be wasted at any one point in the cycle of utilizing resources. In fact these current ones will indicate the feel of the nation and provide HH with interesting stats. The cause of by-election is corruption which your small party UPND and the MMD engaged in during the 2011 general elections. Your member Kakoma, lost the Zambezi West seat after the supreme court nullified it on the grounds of corruption. If you accuse PF of inducing by-election, you are essentially saying there is no supreme court in Zambia. To you supreme court is PF. By-elections must NOT be engineered in form of “Lucky Chance” a ‘Lottery’ with a hope of accidentally gaining stray Parliamentary Seats. Ideally, by-elections should only be conducted only when a seating MP dies or medically goes mad. PF fear of other political parties gaining prominence in Parliament resorted to its President inducing by-elections on flimsy grounds. He recruited cheap unprincipled men into his game.
We understand that “SEPTEMBER 11th” is a sad Day in the USA. In this regard, we pray that by-elections slated for ‘Sept. 11th’ will turn out to be a disastrous Tsunami for the headless PF.
