SCORES of grade 12 pupils at Helen Kaunda, Kitwe Boys and Mukuba Secondary schools in Kitwe on Tuesday ran amok throwing stones and burning vehicle tyres after discovering that they had fake leaked examination papers.

The protests ignited soon after the pupils wrote their Biology Paper One examination, which turned out to be different from the supposed question papers they had obtained prior to the examination.

The pupils, immediately after writing Biology, mobilised outside their respective school premises and started throwing stones and other missiles, first on school infrastructure and later at nearby communities.

Kitwe police chief Lizzy Machina confirmed the riots that characterised the three schools around 12:00 hours on Tuesday. Ms Machina said the pupils got furious when they discovered that the supposed leaked examination paper was in fact fake.

She said frustrated by that, the pupils took to the streets and started throwing stones as a way of expressing their anger. “Police quickly moved in and dispersed the protesting pupils but no arrests were made,” she said.

Ms Machina said similarly, pupils at Ndeke Secondary School yesterday engaged in the same conduct when they found out that the Mathematics Paper One examination which they had obtained before, was not the actual one they sat for in the examination.

She said pupils immediately after the examination set out to demolish the school perimeter wall-fence but alert police officers prevented them from doing so.

Ms Machina said police rushed to the area and fired teargas canisters to disperse the rampaging pupils.

“We were lenient with the pupils because we don’t want to disturb them from writing their examinations,” Ms Machina said.

She said the police had since instituted investigations to bring the culprits to book.

Kitwe District Commissioner Elias Kamanga expressed disappointment with the pupils over their conduct.

    • *****s!, what is wrong with this country?

Anyway what do you expect? If their fathers are leaking everything from private conversations to classified documents like a budget.

We used to call these as: Foolish form fives fighting for free food (FFFFFFF).

    • I got 18 points in the 90s in the pure sciences. I sweated for that my dear friends. Studied all nights. Guess what? I am a professor in the USA teaching white kids. Good luck with leakage, kids. It will take you nowhere. We can’t even tell who has a genuine 6 points.

    • And the 6000 students could all have leaked exams and may be only 2000 had seated for a good result. Cry my beloved Zambia!

    • And the 6000 students could all have leaked exams and may be only 2000 had sweated for a good result. Cry my beloved Zambia!

    • The Genius. …..I think you are foolish and low life professor..
“You are in the USA teaching white kids” just from the statement I can tell what tribe you are……teaching white kids is the happiest thing that has happened to you I guess. Kwena ubututu plus poverty bwafya sana..

    • There are no controls in the PF government. The budget speech was leaked…..simply put..the abnormal has now become the norm. Lets get rid of PF and start rebuilding the country

    • Ba The Genius I congratulate you for your hard work. You are a good example for our kids on how to excel without taking shortcuts.
However, you have a dangerous inferiority complex that should not be inherited by our hardworking kids. You think teaching white kids is an achievement. No Just teaching others regardless of their colour should give you enough pride. The pride doesnt have to come because you are imparting knowledge to whites.

  1. Something needs to be done about our education system. In the old days, having a leakage was secretive and shameful. but now it is being viewed as a right where people even have the audacity to protest. UNACCEPTABLE!!!

    • Now we know which schools have leaked exam papers…I hope ECZ has taken further action by substituting the rest of the papers? It is unfortunate that innocent pupils have been caught up in this scandal.

    • I think universities should start administering entrance examinations in order to eradicate students who use leakage and to give every student a fair share. What about those students who did not use leakage? I hope those universities also don’t leak exams.

  2. Thumbs up to the leaker. What a way to bring out the rot in our education system! Leak some more fakes, please! You will help the students that way than leaking actuals.

    • This is the new stratergy by the ECZ. They leak fake papers so that in future, no pupil will be interested in leakages but study hard to pass on based on thier sweat. Thumbs up.

  3. This explains the 6 points we see around. I have always wondered how almost every one would have distinctions. Previously, at times they will be no one with 6 points in whole the country after the results are released. Sometimes, the whole school would fail to produce a student to UNZA. UNZA was a preserve for the most intelligent. These days even “Goats” are enrolled at UNZA because of this porous education system. Shame!!!

    • St. Mary Magadalena, the codes have been changed now. They are BS111, C101, P111 and M111. The syllabi have been a little simplified but they still fail. Can you imagine.

    • Thanks for the update on the codes there. What you share confirms that the kids are only interested in getting into university without the accompanying hard work that a lot of us were so proud of (struggling from a C to a B+ was epic!)…

    • We had real education those days when we were graduating during the first republic. Even those who graduated with a silent degree went to get post graduate qualifications abroad because they were capable. When you get a Bachelors with a merit we would walk with a bounce like the real geniuses we were.
These children are lazy and crooked, no wonder you are failing to perform even after graduating. Ba mambala!

  4. This is very funny… But am. Glad it happened so that this dependancy on this can stop and people just focus working hard and doing the Right thing. This is were it begins some carry it all the way through higher institutions of learning.

  5. No arrests have been made. If the reason you are giving for their foolish behaviour is anything to go by, why did you not arrest them? Is having leakages legal in your opinion? What kind of so called future leaders is this nation going to have with this kind of laziness and stupidity, not willing to learn but to be spoon fed with leakages? Why should the police be lenient with the law breakers who are openly telling them that they are using illegal means to pass examinations? Ubupuba fye bweka bweka.

  6. Did the schools supply the pupils with wrong leakage papers? If not why did the pupils wanted to damage school installations and infrastructure? This is low thinking in our children who always rely on leakage. At our time of Cambridge examinations we never used to experience such rot behaviour! That’s why even the examination results that time were genuine. It was not all that easy to get 6 points even 7 because no leakage was ever mentioned. Very sorry for this trend in our education system!!!!!!

  7. If what the Kitwe Police Chief is saying is anything to go by, why would she be lenient with the law breakers who are openly telling her that they are using illegal means to pass an exam? What kind of the so called future leaders do we hope to have with this kind of stupidity and laziness not wanting to learn but to be spoon fed through leakages? Ubu bwena e bupuba fye.

    • @Chilankalipa, maybe the Kitwe Police Chief also used leakage to get some grades and so she identifies with them and so feels it would be wrong to punish them when she did the same at some point. Or that her child is doing the same and just maybe she even organized for the child. Just thinking 🙂

    • @chilankalipa,you are right! In our country we seem to miss the importance of hard work to earn a genuine living and self respect! How can the whole lot of a Police Chief fail to arrest criminals like these and make them realise at an early age that academic or any form of excellencey requires hardwork and not trickery?? Ooh my God we need to do a lot and alot of cleaning up to put our country once more in working order… This gives me an idea that even the Police Chief might have earned her academic qualifications dubiously or got a promotion dubiously. Ooh my God we are in trouble…!

  8. This right there is the solution to leakages, release fake ones and eventually pupils will lose confidence in leakages

  9. Very good state of affairs. It is about time some sanity was restored to our education system. I know kids with very good results who cannot articulate what they claim to be good at. They even have the audacity to protest against the illegality!! fcuking idoits!

  10. well done ECZ this is the way to go. Keep it up. Release about 3 examination papers before the final one is released to confuse those who are involved in examination leakages. This will control the confusion at UNZA now the real brains boxes will get places at UNZA.

  11. Wow!!!! This is very interesting…Chaps have the audacity to protest over something illegal, this can only happen in Zambia.
It now explains why there has been alot of activity at night lately

  13. So Government has budget to print fake papers and then print the correct ones aswell … Interesting and shame!!

    Happy Friday

    • Whatever means available will be used. Since this seems to be working, why not continue with it until the rot is burried.

  14. The pupils ran amok destroying schools property, and throwing stones at nearby communities and what is the response of the police… “We were lenient with the pupils because we don’t want to disturb them from writing their examinations,” Ms Machina said.

Destroying public property! And you are lenient with them!

Attacking innocent hardworking people in the community! And you are lenient on them!!!

Does somebody have to die before police realize something is wrong with pupils or anybody else for that matter damaging and attacking innocent people!!!

  15. …u have no idea how such news is bringing down confident levels in our education system especially abroad…..UK and the likes….

  16. The Genius. …****. …ati ” am in the USA teaching white kids”.from the statement I can tell what tribe you are. .you seem to be happy teaching white kids in the USA. ..typical African…you remind me that character in ‘ the old man and the medal’ ubu tu tu plus poverty bwafya sana

  17. @loadshedding united, you are right! How can a person involved in exam malpractice and riotious behavior disturbing peace and destroying people’s hard earned property be shown liniency?? If they wanted to be linienty they should have arrested these miscreants, release them on bond to allow them write exams and then prosecute them thereafter!! Today’s world is a knowledge world and we can’t build a country of cheats who appreciate the value of genuine hardwork. With this behaviour from Police Chief,Lizz Machina one would suspect that she has relatives involved this malpractice either as pupils or providers of leaked papers. How is she going to investigate when the key suspects who could have given clues are free?? Zambia at 50 year..,this is how we have suck in this respect!May God help…

  18. So how many of the 6000 that were accepted by UNZA genuinely achieved good grades without leakages? Imagine spending Millions of Kwacha in bursaries on chaps that cheated the system. Pathetic really!

  19. “We were lenient with the pupils because we don’t want to disturb them from writing their examinations,” Ms Machina said.

To say the least, I am disappointed with the approach of the Police.

The Centre of the investigation should be who gave them the “wrong” paper in the first place. It might turn out that the same people have given other pupils the right paper.

Since when did we start giving chance to criminals?. You don’t want to disturb them from writing their rigged exams?. come-on Police be serious

  20. leak more fake ones. This term of leakage was not even in our vocabulary during our time. These pupils are so lazy that they do not study because they know too well that they will have access to the real paper before the exams. Thumbs up to ECZ, Teachers and all players who are involved in handling exams. Let us make sure that no paper, I mean no paper should leak.

  21. Foolish pupils…. Study and you will pass genuinely. I got 22 points in 1986 because of studying…no leakage that time and I am happy…. These days, the 6points ayakwiba…useless children and parents of nowadays… UNZA that time was even accepting upto 20 points if you chose a weaker school (Social science especially), but this time only upto 12points if you are lucky, leaving the genuine 18-22 points out… The 6points we have these years are fake!!!!

  22. I am not surprised with this. There is more of examinations malpractice than meets an ordinary eye at all levels – seven, nine, twelve and even colleges and universities. Higher institutions of learning are actually are worse; The problem is that we want to pretend that all is well. Just where does the leakage start from? I must congratulate the people that are giving out false leaked papers!

  23. What a tragedy Zambia finds itself in. Sure to protest because of a fake leakage! God bless the one who gave these useless kids ‘leakage’. Where is this nation headed to? Sure corruption has consumed even the education sector. That explains why the hard hitting provinces like Western and Southern of the 80s and 90s have now been overtaken by C/B and Lusaka kids who get to UNZA in droves only to fail in multitudes in first year. As Chona Mainza would have said……’shemuna bane….shame!!”

In our time it was ‘impossible’ to get 6 points but for the rare genius like the Mweene brothers of Saint Canisius in the 80s who am told are now working or worked at NASA. Those were massively gifted men!!

  24. Graduates of these days. How do you blame gov over fake papers..These children, let them riot in their fathers houses… I finished school in 1986 and at that time it was rare to get 6-10 points. UNZA was even accepting those who were able to get 20 point. Maybe the most high points could 10-13 points. But these days someone with genuine 18 point is fit only for Lusaka Trades college… what a shame and you find about 6000 students geting 6 points… Colleges should wakeup to these issues… The problem some of these students is that they go all the way with leakages even at university level and we produce fake graduates who forget needles in someone’s stomach…

  25. Thumbs up to ECZ, the dependancy on leakages should stop… People should learn to work hard through school and much through life. If we don’t build good character when we are young its difficult to start when you are older.

  26. Ba St Mary Magadalena, ati go back to Chimwemwe and Garden compound, I take this personal, first the codes are no longer C11O, as alluded by someone, secondly, abena chimwemwe taba wa, if you are interested I can give the names of people from chimwemwe who have successfully completed studies at either UNZA or CBU, a bit more research on your behalf would be helpful

  27. Bakapokola of Kitwe what other evidence were you looking for to apprehend the rioting? Pupils rioted over unlawful act and you leave them scotch free? Is there law in Zambia? What else do you need to see for the rioting pupils to be arrested?

  28. I think based on dat statement, dat buju should b droped frm her position immediately,so if a dull chap kills or destroys property u must b lenient bkoz he is writin an exam? Authority in the wrong hands there,

  29. WE THEN WONDER WHY ZAMBIA STILL REMAINS A BANANA REPUBLIC??
These Cheating twits, with a deranged sense of entitlement, then go to University, NOT on merit, but through deception, & end up the leaders of Zambia tomorrow.
Well since this Scam has failed, Not all is lost, as they still have the option of enrolling to the infamous ” COPPERSTONE UNIVERSITY”. Surely only in Zed.

  30. This is what has been happening even some of those who are at UNZA FAKED THEIR RESULTS or have used leakages to get there. Thanks to the patriotic front for leaking out fake papers so that we have right students with clear results at the campus.

  31. This is the real don’t kubeba. They wanted more leakages in their pockets. Bravo ECZ and Dr John phiri.increse the frequency of these fakileaks

  32. Wow, just wow! Getting upset because an attempt to cheat on an exam backfired? They should crack down on these cheats so as to make an example of them. The use of leakages ought to be eradicated. These criminals (if they use the right leakage) end up enrolling in universities at the expense of the average, hard-working, non-leakage using student. As such, the average student heads to Evelyn Hone or NIPA for a diploma. No wonder there is little progress in the country. It appears that in most cases you have to have a cheating orchestration just to succeed. Having attended Mukuba School, I am deeply disappointed, and can only hope that the famed ‘task force’ comprising of Mr. Nkosha and co. (if still in existence) will manhandle these disasters of uncivilized human beings.

  33. What do you expect with borrowed and undefinable policies such as ‘education for all’? What we need is formation of a strong Exam Results Verification authority to assist ECZ.This will be money well spent to stem this madness and prevent the country from ‘masumbarisation.’ We shud not waste resources on fake and toothless organs such as teachers’ council. For what if not just duplication of work?
