Opposition Movement for Multiparty Democracy (MMD) president Nevers Mumba has maintained that the speculated hinted political comeback of former President Rupiah Banda is still not on the former ruling party’s current agenda.

The Opposition Alliance on which it has been suggested Mr. Banda should make a political comeback has left the decision for Mr. Banda to contest the position of Alliance leader, whose elections are yet to be held; to the MMD itself to which he is a member.

But Dr. Mumba has told Qfm News by telephone that the debate on Mr. Banda’s political comeback is not the former ruling party’s issue for discussion at the moment because the matter it is not even on the discussion table of the MMD.

Dr. Mumba says the MMD has its program it is following and therefore it refuses to be drawn in the current debate of the former Head of States political comeback as it does not help the objectives that the MMD has set in its program.

He says this is besides the fact that Mr. Banda himself has not stated whether he wants to stand on the MMD when he eventually makes his hinted political comeback.

The MMD president says it will be thus unfair for Mr. Banda and the MMD itself if he to part the said debate.

He says as MMD leader he will only discuss issues that directly concern the former ruling party.

  1. Let Rupiah give Dr Mumba and MMD Party a break.Dr Mumba since he became MMD President has just been going from problem to problem. For the past 3 yrs,Dr Mumba has not really applied himself to his MMD Vision.Let not Rupiah also add on to these seemingly unending problems in MMD under Dr Mumba’s Leadership.

    • @Sir Nyambe-I agree with you.Indeed Dr Mumba is a very strong Leader. He has not really fully started to implement the vision he has for MMD.From the time he became MMD President,it has been challenge after challenge-MMD nearly deregistered,Nearly hounded out as MMD President(Maj.Kachingwe),Court cases and police arrests,Court Contempt iniated by Kaingu and Chituwo, bad language by so-called senior members Siliya and Mulusa etc.

    • Let indeed not Rupiah be a contributor to this anti-Nevers Mumba campaign.Let him(Dr Mumba) start to fully implement the MMD Party Vision.

  2. If I were in his position, at nearly a century old, I would opt for a secured pension, entertain my grand children, offer so-so advice to would be politicians, and then focus on my favourite past time, whisky.

  3. Very dissappointed with RB, i have no respect for old people whose only agenda is to rule. I fail to understand the man, can those deceiving him give us a break. There is nothing new he will bring, his children and relatives have always taken pleasure in misleading him. Let him continue and this time he will be more humiliated and renounce his citizenship. Please – RB campaign team – take your ganja dreams to your homes and give us a break. If you have failed to reason – other Zambians still have room for transformative leadership

  4. This is disturbing. With due respect, in this time and age, we are still ignoring the new generation in consideration of the fossils? Zambia needs a revolution (not a violent one) where all the likes of the Satas, chikwanda, Scott, Munkombwe are done away with. Instead of new energy, new vision in leadership, our Presidency and cabinet have been getting older!!

  5. This RB business make me sick!He has nothing to offer MMD.If he truly loves peace and the party that presented him the Vice presidency and later the presidency literally on a silver plate, he must come in the open to say something to stop speculations.RB has been in leadership positions for over 50years, he’s as much a contributor to current poverty as Chikwanda, Mukombwe and Sata.A message must clearly be delivered to him that politicians of his ilk are not welcome anymore.its time to pass the barton to the younger people.MMD leadership is not vacant, the last thing it needs is more distractions when the storm has just settled.Worse still from a pensioner who should otherwise be a pillar of support to Dr Nevers Mumba. Let Mumba crew execute its plan for re-election in relative peace.

  6. I thought RB was a calmer ‘wise man’ from the old political bunch and that he would act in the interest of logical democracy and M. At nearly 80years old, what signals is he sending to people that invite him as statesman of the troubled continent? In their eyes RB presidency represented good governance.Meaning gracious in defeat and knowing when to retire. It appears he gets none of it. He stepped down after defeat to avoid hard work of party reorganisation that follow defeat.Yes,Nevers Mumba picked up the pieces, swept the house clean and began rebuilding broken parts. The RB come now looks attractive, how convenient !We all know that part of it is due to the Dora siliya factor and part of it is to do with personal issues pushing him back to frontline politics.Give him better advice.

  7. I think Nevers Mumba is the only credible leader MMD have right now who can compete with the other young people like Chipimo, HH. Zambians are tired of these old and sick men and women always in hospital. We need people like Obama, age 53 and Cameron age 46. We must put this in the consitituion our president must be below 60 and above 45 years old. The election must be held every 5 years on the first tuesday of september. These things must be in the consitituion.

  8. Amalume a Banda, ulemu nikuzipasa wamwine. Banthu anyinji alabila. Nkalani tyala mukokulya penshoni. Nichinji chavuta kansi. Koma aba nimayeso kwa a Nevers. A Muhabi kosani amudala na nchito iyo. Zimyani mulilo paukaliyo kula ndaba mukaleka mupezeke panja namwe. Osaluba kuti a Kachingwe aliye lutilethu. Aba amudala nao enze ekatilila mpando wanu nawo ati bani ka… eyah a Kapembwa ambuya banu nawo aliko ka , angaufune wamene mpando wanu. so osaganiza kuti nkhondo yamuwona niya a Nevers beka yayi. vulani menso. Neo nalabila.
