MMD Kasenengwa member of Parliament (MP) Victoria Kalima has joined calls for former President Rupiah Banda to come back to active politics, adding that he is a better leader than party president Nevers Mumba.
Ms Kalima said she has nothing against Dr Mumba but that if members want Mr Banda to be their leader, they should be given what they want.
She said in an event that Mr Banda, popularly known as RB, contests the presidency at the MMD convention, the former president would go through.
“There is a leadership crisis at the moment and people want to see a president who can take the country forward and they feel that RB can do that,’’ Ms Kalima said.
She said Mr Banda implemented good policies as president and that he has the experience to lead the country.
Ms Kalima said many Zambians are calling on the former president to come back because they have tasted his leadership qualities.
“Other than President Sata, I think RB is a better leader. When you look around, there is no one with good leadership qualities,’’ she said.
Ms Kalima said many Zambians have confidence in RB and that they feel that he must come back into active politics.
She said Mr Banda is popular countrywide compared to other leaders who are just popular in certain parts of the country.
I feel so sorry for my brother Nevers Mumba and MMd itself.
The best they can do is liquidate the party because if among the hundreds of thousands of its members they are not able to identify a “suitable” president that they have to resort to a “RETIREE” as the next best one,then there is disaster ahead for the party.
MMD is making itself IRRELEVANT to he political landscape called ZAMBIA.
Whether RB or Nevers, MMD is almost dead. MMD should rather stick with Nevers Mumba than bring RB. With Pastor Mumba as MMD president, there is little hope for MMD, not the dinosaur RB.

I really don’t understand this MMD debate. All I can draw from it is Nevers has failed to inspire his flock! And it seems all other credible leaders that were a part of the downfall of RB have abandoned ship. The writing is on the wall, MMD needs clear heads, fresh minds and new blood.

Nevers Mumba has a mission for which he was brought on board: to head the complete destruction of the MMD. When you have no support in an institution you are heading, how do you expect outsiders to support you, and let alone give you a vote? Nevers will Never inspire support and victory for the MMD.

The post colonial political formations for Africa have not produced desired, accountable and visionary leaders. Politics has been defined by many as a dirty game because the majority of people who have something to offer cannot challenge the violent and oppressive zones in these political structures. A number of dedicated and visionary leaders are often ejected from these political parties because the ultimate aim of joining politics is to to be TOO powerful and too rich. Over the years most African countries have voted for people who do not qualify to be addressed as leaders – might be fair to call them Rulers than misuse important terms. Victoria should not have wasted her time and energy to endorse Rupiah Banda. RB should be out of active politics, do not interview RB on this matter

It makes sad reading that senior citizens can hide behind people seeking political jobs as catapults for confusion in the party. Even if MMD was dying, this is not the way to let it die. Where there is no shame people can do any thing. For MMD to be attractive today ,it is because Nevers and his few faithful, not those by reason of being MPS now, has worked so hard to keep the banner attractive. I would rather encourage Nevers not to be detracted but also ask all good meaning people to help and support Nevers. Iam already in gainful employment but feel bad at what some job seekers want to do to this country. who is bewitching us Zambians, the so called educated that we easily forget. why do we delight in cutting people asunder. we seem to be enjoying confusion. RB is a good fossil, he left mealie meal at K35, now its over K100. The exchange rate was stable and not as mad it is now. The reserves were okay. There was less tension and antagonism. In a way, you could tell that the man really studied economics. Very statesman stature in both language and approach. Agriculture bumper harvest translated into stable mealie meal prices. His only problem was kamwendo munjila, always travelling. But I give him credit for a lot of gains. To come back to politics will be his personal descision but I cant stop him. I will try to counsel you Madam that whenever you want to talk about your Leader at any point of time,you must be honorable in all your words and attitude. if you to try to confront your Boss or Leader with aggression,it only shows how you lack a honouring heart. Seeing my grand papa ,RB today physically made my heart melt for sympathy. I felt his respect being put on line. The man really has posture of a respected person who does not need to subject oneself to unnecessary heartaches of politics. The man is a respectable personality . Namvwa na kaso on what is happening to him. Certain personalities need not subject themselves to trash.
