Matete ready for ZAA election

Share

Ex- 400 meters hurdles world champion Samuel Matete says he is prepared for the Zambia Athletics Association elective annual general meeting to be held in December.

Matete is challenging incumbent and long serving ZAA president Elias Mpondela for the top post.

Zambia’s most successful individual sports man announced his bid to challenge Mpondela earlier in March.

“Firstly, it is my right to contest the ZAA election. I am prepared for the election coming up in December. I have been working in the background,” Matete said.

“I have a vision to promote athletics at the grass root. It is important that we go out in communities to tap talent instead of sitting in offices. Talented athletes will never come to us we have to follow them in communities,” he said.

The 1996 Olympic Silver medallist also won gold at the 1993 Commonwealth Games.

  1. The Challenge by Matete is worth it. Indeed talent is not only in towns and cities. The best talent among athletes is in rural areas, and they are better disciplined. Go for it Samuel. I wish you success.

  2. Way to go Samuel!
Athletics needs an injection of fresh ideas. Look at how well Kenya performs at the world stage. Surely, Zambia has enough talented young people to win those medals
To those who will vote, please give Mr. Matete the votes he needs.

  3. A breath of fresh air to have Matete at the helm! Mpondela outlived his usefulness a long time ago. Mpondela has nothing more to offer, but his corrupt ways to stay in office. The organisation needs new ideas and new blood to move it forward. And there is no better candidate than Matete!

  4. Problem is that Zambians are allergic to fresh ideas. Look around you, we still have the Munkombwe, bashi Lusaka mayor in office, kumangango waya sendamo abakote….what is wrong with our electrolate….illiteracy plus poverty is curse. we are cursed.
