Fire has gutted Lewanika General Hospital Pharmacy in Mongu District for the second time.

However, quick response by the fire brigade quenched the fire before it could spread elsewhere as hospital staff quickly evacuated patients from the wards for fear of fire spreading to the rest of the hospital.

Hospital Medical Superintendent Likambi Kambinda confirmed the incident in Mongu yesterday. He said no life was lost and that prompt action by hospital staff saved the pharmacy’s drug stock from been destroyed.Dr Kambinda said the cause of the fire was not known but said staff who were scheduled to have a meeting in the same building discovered that the building had caught fire after been disturbed by electrical sparks.

Meanwhile Western Province Permanent Secretary Augustine Seyuba expressed concern over the gutted pharmacy as it was the second time that fire had swept through the pharmacy.
Mr Seyuba said Hospital management had not yet established the cause of the fire and the extent of the damage caused to the building and the drugs.
He however expressed happiness that no life was lost and assured that the provincial administration will work round the clock to ensure that the pharmacy resumes operations.

In 2006, Lewanika General Hospital Pharmacy was gutted by fire prompting the provincial administration to renovate the building.

  1. QUESTIONS FOR PF BEFORE ELECTING NEW PRESIDENT.
    1. Why did PF Don’t Kubeba us about Mr. Sata’s health and what guarantee do we have that they won’t lie to us again? Some people have to account for this….
    2. Why do you (PF) allow your cadres to misbehave and disturb our peace?
    3. Was the bloated cabinet under MMD reduced as promised? This is partly the reason for the high debt we have now accrued due to limited revenue thereby enslaving future generations.

  3. Lewanika General Hospital is nothing to write about when compared to some district hospitals in other provinces.
They don’t even have a capacity backup generator to use if there was power blackout for 24 hours.
This hospital was built before independence and so no Zambian government can claim credit for it.
It is only the inclusion of the eye clinic which can be attributed to any Zambia government.
Similarly, almost all secondary schools worth their salt were built by the churches or the colonial masters.St Jones,Holy Cross,Kambule etc
You wonder why the people of Barotseland want out?
