Opposition Heritage party President Godfrey Miyanda has formally declared his candidature for the 2015 Presidential election.

Brigadier General Miyanda says he has applied and offered himself as presidential candidate for the Heritage party because he believes he best suits the transition that has been necessitated by the death of President Michael Sata.

Speaking during a media briefing this morning to announce his candidature, General Miyanda observed that he does not need to be a member of the ruling Patriotic Front (PF) in order to take on the programmes that have be actualized by the PF government.

He says as patriot and leader he has been prepared well for the high office he is seeking, firstly in the Defence and Security service and in government when he served as republican vice President and Minister of education.

General Miyanda says while he may not be the best or most experienced contender in the election, his service and receipt of instructions and spiritual guidance has shaped him into an obedient person.

He says he believes that his testimony is exemplary in terms of discipline, faithfulness, loyalty to the people of Zambia and the nation as whole.

The Heritage party president further states that what makes him the best suited person for transition is the fact all programmes initiated by the ruling PF in 2012 are in the Heritage party manifesto which was launched in 2001.

He says it will therefore be easy for him to adapt and lead the country’s transition.

And Opposition Christian Democratic Party (CDP) President Apostle Daniel Pule has announced his candidature for the January 20th presidential DAN PULEelection.

Making the announcement during a media briefing in Lusaka today, Dr Pule says his party is more than ready to take part in the by-election.

Dr. Pule says his party will work on a common goal of doing what the previous governments have failed to do.
He states that the CDP has put God first and has promised to govern the nation on Biblical principles.

He says while other political parties are busy fighting, his party is busy mobilizing its members on the ground.

Dr Pule adds that his party is united and focused on delivering the much anticipated development in the country.

The CDP Leader further states that his party has made wider consultations before arriving at the decision to contest the presidential election and that the hand of God is upon him.

    • @Jay, Mushota works for this website, LT.

This man, Miyanda, only pops up during presidential elections. Wonder what he does in between elections. Vote splitter!!!! Muleikalafye. Ka one man party!!!!

    • As far as I can remember, General Miyanda has always joined every presidential race. But has never succeeded to making significant in-roads from previous performances. Something is wrong with such a picture. He simply takes Zambians for a fool’s ride.

    • I wonder if this general can read the mode of soldiers in the battle front , looks too humble and coward

sata never even used to respond this man he knew him well

    • Gen.Miyanda a person who worked for the military where both tactical and strategic planning is the in thing has either forgotten or deliberately ignores his training.Where ever there are by-elections for MPs and councellors,Heritage Party does not take part.In any case I cannot remember any public meeting ( rally ) addressed by the General in between elections like his colleages ( Nevers,HH and Chipimo jnr ) do.If you do not plant seed,do not go in the field to harvest. The General does not interact with voters in ordinary times but begs them to allow him stand as a Presidential candidate. How will they know him?

    • What is a 10 pin for a presidential candidate? This is the reason we have countless tiny parties popping up only when there is a bye election. Why should someone aspiring for the highest office in the land struggle to pay such a little amount. Zambians should wake up not to waste their votes on candidates whom they really know can not make it. HH is the only credible candidate in this race. He’s rich, well informed and vibrant, honest and trustworthy, hardworking and caring, and above all he has the heart for the development of this country. How can we trust the PF with all the tussling and rumbling we are seeing everyday. Fellow countrymen, its time to join the main flight HH2015

    • Waste of time and space. Why cant he identify an individual with leadership potential and rally behind that person? Kusoba nsoni.

    • Mushota is jobless. She is accommodated by Glasgow housing authority she is home and online 24/7. Uk government want to send all unproductive foreigners coz they r draining resources so she wanna marry a British guy for papers.

    • Miyanda can do better and can be Zambia’s hope but what he doesn’t know is that he has let many down. He has to organize the party and strengthen the HP structures. Even though he is a man of God leadership is imperative.

    • THE REASON WHY THE LATE PRESIDENT SATA NEVER RESPONED TO THE STATEMENTS BY GENERAL MIYANDA IS BECAUSE GENERAL MIYANDA DOES HIS HOME WORK WELL BEFORE HE SAYS SOME THING, AM SURE MANY WILL AGREE WITH ME THAT EVERY TIME MIYANDA ISSUES A STATEMENT IT MAKES SENSE.

WE ZAMBIANS HAVE VERY HIGH PROPERST TO CHOOSE WRONG LEADERS. JUST LIKE IN THE BIBLE ONE LEADER ASKED PEOPLE TO CHOOSE BETWEEN JESUS CHRIST AND BARABAS, PEOPLE CHOSE BARABAS. GENERAL MIYANDA IS A GOD FEARING MAN, AS FOR ME AND MY HOUSE HOLD WE SHALL VOTE FOR MIYANDA.

    • @Dude, he sold books after presidential announcement. and 2million dollars is not a “millionaire in America”. You think Snoop Doggy is a millionaire?

    • Miyanda is the most suited person for the highest office in the Land, the only reason Zambians don’t vote for him is because Zambians like readers who are not straight, who are dishonest, thieves, and we love wickedness as a people.

    • Guys don’t compare General Miyanda with Dr. Kaseba worse still tp cosmo mumba.

Guys in all fareness Miyanda is the best for Zambia. Some of you are saying that he has not been campaigning tell me how as been campaigning? As lungu, hh, and other been campaigning the answer is no. Miyanda go for it.

  1. Both Mr. Miyanda and Danny Pule have no vision for the country and they are not as charismatic as leaders should be. Zambians in January will either vote for HH or settle for the devil they know(PF). Unlike Mr. Miyanda whose CV in public services is quite impressive(Military services, Minister without Portfolio, vice president and Education Minister), all Mr. Pule is known for is a one time deputy minister of finance, a 2 time divorcee and leader of a defunct christian organization. Mr. Pule is not presidential material period.

    • I Think General Miyanda love this country so much, and speaking for a people who are serious when it comes to matters of our beloved Zambia General Miyanda is the only Man suited to be our head of state.

    • It is simple as a nation we prefer darkness to light. We hate righteousness. So when someone who is straight like Miyanda or Chipimo appears we are filled with hatred and resentment. We want thieves and liars and people who promise mountains when they can not even give an anti hill. The first thing they do when they are entrusted with the highest office is to be in denial about their own constitution.
If God sees Miyanda as the leader for now no one can stop him. Of course the opposite is also true. I will give him my vote

    • @Son of Africa

Are you by any chance implying that HH is charismatic? Me only see him always wearing a gloomy, despondent look. Sometimes I see a stern aloof expression that makes him look like some disaster about to happen. But most times he carries with him a funereal expression on his face that professional morticians would envy. When he opens his mouth to shed light on his vision for Zambia out pops complicated scientific economic jargon that leaves his audiences wondering what the hell he was talking about, unless they have completed at least 5 years UNZA training. Charisma? That’s what he needs to cultivate because he hasn’t got it.

  2. These are individuals with distorted dreams, those who do the same things in the same way and expecting different results, those who reinvent the wheel and never improve it, those who keep running a race that was lost the moment other past the finish-line.
His life is a manifestation of what happens when a man is used and dumped, like a used condom, no one bothers to pick up the pieces, but with the optimism of a mosquito, his optimism is futile. Like the devil, his aim is to lure voters to whinge with him indefeat!

  3. But what is Gen. Miyanda doing with those mobile Hospital units, was he checking his BP but forgot to check his brain. Elo lwanya even people like Danny pule are contemplating to dislodge the PF from power. Mr. Sata has left us many problems. Thank u.

  4. Ba Miyanda as usual election time ba buka kubafwa. Can any Zambian psychologist help Miyanda work on his other dreams unlike this kind of politics he play, waking up at an 11th hour.

  5. Now there are simply too many crazy people joining the bandwagon. Wish there was a way to weed-out time wasters. The qualification bar should have been raised a lot higher. The ring is too narrow for such a huge crowd of presidential candidates.

  6. Ili lyena eshilu number one(1). Nalyunfwako bwino panono nomba. The
doctors advised you to rest and get your brains in at least 15% working order. Next time you to chainama they wont attend to you. Heritageeeee.

  7. I knew it, the time and votes waster is here like always
when there is a serious matter. where have you been?
give us a break. we are just from mourning sata,
having sleepless nights because of the PF noise, next
door some are calling for the return of Robert brown.
now its you and your pulpit laughing friend. what a headache

  8. Zambia is now quite a mature democracy, let all the cats come out of the bug so that we shall be assured that the choices we have in mind are really the best there is. I say who ever can afford the 10pin let them put their hat in. I feel very confident that the right choice will emerge

  9. General Miyanda must understand that he cant manage to run the country without any support from Parliament. How many MPs does his party have in the parliament? If by miracle he wins the presidency how is he going to control or influence decisions in Parliament? How possible is it for him to run a country without members of parliament?Even Nawakwi, HH are better candidates but with limited numbers in Parliament is will be very difficult if not impossible for these guys to run a government.!!Elyo lwanya nomba.Even me nalaiposapo!!

    • Is General ok! He only resurrects when the elections come? He also reappears when there is a case to present in the courts of law………Hai ba General, what is going on?

  10. Time wasters like General Miyanda do not deserve this kind of platform nor the attention being shown to them. This is what feeds into their egos. Otherwise, they are good for nothing. It is only seriously minded politicians who deserve such platforms and attention. Please black-out all the time wasters.

    • yes. She/He/It works for LT to drum up readership and create fake controversy.

We don’t need a Mushota, ba LT. We’ll read you still. (That’s after we’ve read the latest news/gossip from ZWD)

  11. Pricas take chipimo out of that list. Trust me he knows what he is doing.hear what people are saying about ELIAS. You will be shocked.

  12. One mad commando never seize to join the race even when he knows deep down his heart that he will lose (quoting Kavindele) because he is not just appealing to the general voters apart from his family. I wish the general could have just stayed away from this race because he has nothing to offer the Zambian populace. That money could help finance someone’s studies so well!

    • OBSERVER I DONT AGREE WITH YOU WHEN YOU SAY MIYANDA AS NOTHING TO OFFER TO ZAMBIANS, IF ANYTHING HE HAS A LOT TO OFFER TO ZAMBIANS.

    • @Kennedy, please educate me because like many others the general only talks about the village concept and I see nothing in that that he can offer, Please elaborate more, he might just a vote or two!

    • @The Observer, The Heritage Party’s village concept is the easiest to understand among all parties and provides a better model for balanced development between rural and urban areas in our Country. Among other things, most western Countries have used this concept over the years to get to where they are today, and as such there is a seamless joint between rural and urban in infrastructure and services.
For instance, I live in a village in UK along with the majority of the UK population, and easily commute to work. The design of the buildings, tarred roads, security, health services etc…are as good as in the urban centers, and if anything more spacious. Industrial Areas are not restricted to urban centers, but evenly spread in villages too. Such a model for Zambia would answer urban…

    • >>..Cont’d from @9.3, … >> Such a model for Zambia would answer urban drift, shanty township, cholera, etc we face. And it makes it easier for a Country to make a case in getting funding from big money lenders like World Bank in many many ways.

  13. The General will bring sanity into Zambian politics and uphold the dignity of Zambia ( from the thieving and tribalistic leaders we have had todate).

  14. Next issue please…….this one is just a waste of space!Just madness? People must vote for Miyanda on the basis of the village concep? My foot………..

    • @kkk, sounds like you have not taken time to understand the ‘Village Concept’. Read it on Heritage Party website. Heritage party offers the next big step. UNIP brought independence. MMD brought multiparty democracy. Heritage Party offers to bring the next logical big step forward i.e. seamless development between our urban and rural areas by embracing our Heritage in a similar manner to what the western developed countries have done to get to where they are today. kkk, I suggest you talk to people in these Countries or visit a developed Country and go to their rural Areas and see for yourself. See my comment in @19.3.

  15. This could be a fluke?

I think he has age against him. His heart is in the right place. However he clearly has a problem with starting something and finishing it.

We would have expected Miyanda to have voiced an approval and backed Edgar Lungu’s High Court Case.

He is qualified but a bit spitfire and showing old age behaviour of stubbornness.

EDGAR LUNGU still at the top.

    • And dottiness I add.

Dan Pule will have us back to Stone Age.

National Anthem will be changed to Praise Him, Praise Him.

Who is he anyway? If you are God’s messenger you maintain a political presence all year round around all issues raised so far.

      No thanks Dan.

  16. My fellow Zambians, no person of integrity is going to waste their time and money to run for office since it seem we constantly suffer from tribalism, and the sickness of polarity. This is to say we don’t look at competence, education and experience; we look at the persons popularity score and how much cash/food he/she hands out. If this remains the criteria by which we choose our leaders, then we deserve what we get… useless crooks and plunderers.
Of all the names put forth thus far, not one is a person of integrity. They are all useless people that have zero ideas for the country except how to best plunder its resources to benefit themselves and cronies. At this rate we will remain the butt of the joke of the international community for a very long time…

  17. How may time will you allow these crooks to manipulate, bamboozle and plunder our children’s future? Voting for the lesser thief is just a waste of time. Poverty and illiteracy is indeed one of the great sins of the world. umshikashika uqhubeka!

  18. It seems we as a people don’t understand that a person who is willing and able to buy votes is by nature dishonest. And as for the financiers, if that person successes he/she will have to pay the piper. Wake up yea mighty people turn your backs on them and write in the name of LEVY MWANAWASA as a protest. If enough people repeat this protest sign and waste their time and money, they will get the message that only quality candidates should be allow to contest the prudency.
No crooks, bootlickers, vote riggers, thieves, and generally dishonesty allowed! If we don’t demand it then we will forever be taken for a ride.

  19. The EU and other donors usually give candidates some cash for campaign,so e en those who know that they will lose still join the race.

  20. …I think its high time my big man engaged into another tactic other than just adding numbers of candidates on the ballot paper….this ‘game’ is not about how sharp, intelligent, sober minded, corrupt free, one who can articulate issues better, honest, charming whatever good you may think of….and which may be attributed to the General…..its all about NUMBERS….and surprisingly the General is very much aware of his circumstance….it baffles me to see one of the distinguished son of the soil repeatedly tries to fill up a drum which is 40 mtrs away from the tap using a bucket which has a hole on its base….
..I hope there wont be a repeat of that embarrassing moment where he fails to raise a required 200 supported for his nomination…..
