Alliance for Better Zambia President Fr Frank Bwalya has announced that his party will not participate in the forthcoming presidential by election but will support the PF if Edgar Lungu is adopted.
Fr Bwalya said ABZ decided not to field a presidential candidate because it has not yet created enough party structures through out the country to make a meaningful attempt at forming government.
He said the PF stands a good chance of remaining in government if it adopts Mr Lungu as presidential candidate.
“Our party thinks? that it makes more sense for political parties with a good number of Members of Parliament to participate in this particular election. ABZ believes that if it won the January 20 presidential election, it would be forced to work with MPs belonging to other political parties, a situation that may make it difficult for our party to implement our unique policies and programmes,” Fr Bwalya said.
He said ABZ has scrutinized all members interested to stand on the ABZ ticket, including myself as leader of ABZ and has found them not ready regarding a number of factors including financial resources and logistics.
Fr Bwalya stated that after careful analysis, the party made a strategic decision to support the PF only for this presidential election.
“We think the prudent way to go given our desire to engage the PF government constructively on a number of important issues as our country continues the journey 50 years after political independence from our brothers and sisters that colonized our territory.”
Fr Bwalya added, “Fellow Zambians, we need to emphasis our resolve to continue engaging the PF government on the need to deliver a just, durable and democratic Republican Constitution that would cure some of the slippage we have observed in our governance system for many years.
As such, we expect the PF government to look at the death of President Sata not only as a big loss but also a big God given opppourtunity for a new beginning.”
He said ABZ will support the PF not because they have done everything well but because they can do better.
On Edgar Lungu, Fr Bwalya said Mr Lungu will enhance the PF’s chances of winning the presidential by election.
“By appointing Mr Lungu as Secretary General, Justice Minister, Defence Minister and Acting President, late Mr Sata was trying to move leadership of the party to where the wise men came from, we think he did a good thing that should not be destroyed for the good of everybody in the party.”

Very impressive announcement from Fr. Bwalya. One thing I have come to appreciate about this fielding of Edgar is that Bembas (including MPs) have really shown a lot of support for their ‘mbuya’ from the East, this is how it aught to be. Indeed One Zambia One Nation – Bravo.

Bwalya is just causing confusion on political issues in Zambia. His track record with his vicious campaigns for late Sata and his relationship with PF and during the shortest presidency of Sata speaks volumes which renders him not to be taken serious by Zambians. His zeal is misplaced, believes in hope that hurts him without healing, his persuasion is undefinable leaving him a Yoyo.

The path taken by PF is more democratic than what is happening in my party MMD. Father Bwalya never genuinely left PF. He wanted a senior position that could perhaps have given him proximity to presidency. Realizing he had a position of less political significance, he resigned from Zesco, and lied to the nation that he would go on 40 day – 40 nights of prayer-fasting to get direction from God; a thing he defied within a week.
During a Radio prog,was asked to state if he had plans to form own party but he denied any plans. Asked further to clarify if decision was motivated by the Sinking Boat(PF), he said and i quot “I resigned so that i could save the boat from sinking – this boat is carrying a lot of people & if it sinks, people will perish.” He has tried to form alliances with weak parties just to gain political mileage but he has lamentably failed. more…

From the people being covered by Lusaka Times including the comments it is clear that Bembas and Easterners are supporting each other. It is therefore high time Lozis and all the marginalised ethnic groups under PF rule rallied behind HH.
