Former President Rupiah Bwezani Banda will tomorrow Thursday 27th November, 2014 at 09:00hrs hold a a press briefing at the MMD Secretariat.

Mr Banda is expected to comment on the recent development in the former ruling party. There has been a power struggle between Dr Mumba and former Head of State Rupiah Banda over the MMD’s presidential candidature for the January 20 presidential by-election.

Yesterday, Dr Mumba was granted an Injunction from the High Court restraining National Secretary Muhabi Lungu and the NEC from interfering with his duties as MMD President until the matter is disposed off by the court.

Dr Mumba has since urged all party structures across the country to continue mobilizing the party and stand ready to participate in the forthcoming presidential by-election.

The MMD Leader has also warned party members of stiff punishment if they attend a meeting scheduled for Thursday in Lusaka organized by some NEC members as it is illegal.

And some members of the opposition MMD in Mungwi district in the Northern province have threatened to defect to other political parties if embattled party president Nevers Mumba is barred from standing on the party ticket in the forthcoming presidential by-election.

District chairman Wilfred Besa who was franked by his Secretary Bernard Mumbi and Youth Secretary Boniface Numba also condemned the coming back to active politics of former President Rupiah Banda.

In a statement to ZANIS in Kasama today, the three party leaders said as far as they were concerned, Dr Mumba was the sole candidate for the MMD in the January 20 2015 presidential by-election.

They have since warned that if the top leadership does not heed to their concerns the entire district will resign to rally behind an opposition leader.

They charged that the come-back of former President Rupiah Banda was a recipe for anarchy and confusion and have since appealed to him to rescind his decision.

Meanwhile, Mr Banda’s son Andrew Banda has said his father risks losing his terminal benefits if he chooses to go ahead and contest the presidential election on MMD ticket.

Mr Banda said today that he was aware that people like Eastern Province MMD secretary Samuel Lugomo Phiri and a number of MMD officials were only interested in financial benefits of the former head of state.

[pullquote]“It pains me to hear that some people like Samuel Lugomo Phiri, who has never stood by the former head of state but only interested in getting financial supports from my dad, are condeming me” Andrew Banda said.[/pullquote]

He wondered why people from MMD did not backed Mr Banda over his cases in court but only influenced him to stand on opposition political party ticket.

He doubted if the former head of state has popularity to win votes in Western,North-Western and Southern Provinces respectively.

“It pains me to hear that some people like Samuel Lugomo Phiri, who has never stood by the former head of state but only interested in getting financial supports from my dad, are condeming me” Andrew Banda said.

He said that Mr Phiri had no right to condemn him for ditching the former ruling party as he was one of the founding members of MMD in 1991.

He dismissed statements from MMD condemning his decision to ditch his father for UPND.

The MMD has accused the son of the former head of state of being traitor stating that he does not appreciate what MMD did for him when he was sent to work in the foreign service.

  1. My prayer is that RB shall say he is not standing for the sake of harmony in his beloved party. We can’t take away the immense contributions he made towards the development of this country. I’m hoping he is going to renounce the lunacy going on about him standing at that age in exchange for statesmanship!

    • When you get older as a man, something get taken away from you.

You cant even make love I have been told. Please confirm this is true, if that is the case why is His excellency coming back?

He offered nothing as a President and there was more money stolen during his reign than any other time.

Please do not come back RB

      Thanks

      (Universally accepted BB2014)

    • RB’s wife is dying of cancer in a hospital away from home and the old fo.ol can’t even be by her side. This man lacks basic integrity to be a husband let alone be Zambia’s president. In the meantime you are all on Christine at least she nursed her husband to the end.

    • Mushota, for once i have read some sensible contribution from you, keep it up.

The issue with RB is that he is challenging the young folks to revolt and completely dicth MMD.

Are there no capable young men to take over from the pre-independence folks? RB is insulting us, seriously!!!!

    • This is a real dilema and I have every sympathy for Nevers Mumba. I know many folk out there are of the view that RB should not return and aim for plot one. But for those without any personal interests in either a candidate or a party, but the immediate future of the nation, RB is not a bad proposal. If anything, he is the best proposal for the stability of the nation.
Zambians, post independence, economy has been at it’s best under his rule. The FDI pledges and actuals were most favourable under his leadership. He is a President for all Zambians and an internationally recognised “statesman”. He carries a tag of a “crook” but who has the evidence to prove this if the “Chief antagonist” M’membe has failed to put before the courts any credible evidence dispite his flashing…

    • Ever wondered why Mushota is alway off? Well, she is expiring this year, thank heavens 🙂 she was labelled BB (Best Before) 2014

    • Dear fellow pro PF bloggers and those that will be attending the convention in Kabwe…

*****VOTE EDGAR LUNGU FOR PF PRESIDENT******

*****EDGAR LUNGU THE MAN WITH A VISION*****
      FOR ZAMBIA

VIVA PF, VIVA ONE ZAMBIA FREE OF TRIBALISM, VIVA DEVELOPMENT, PABWATO!!! VIVA EDGAR!!!!

    • @Mushota, you deserve answers when one asks. Ok about men getting older..
From my own experience, what gets affected most is the sense of HEARING, feeling is the last. The old man in question might affected with is hearing, he probably heard:
      -ERECTIONS not elections.
With that said, someone need to write down in caps, because his sense vision is still strong.

    • The strip of admiration RB earned himself for announcing retirement on handover of power to PF has completely been lost. To refer to him as a disappoint is an understatement, even ‘a disgress’ falls short in description . The act of selfishness for a man clogged up in so much personal mess is astounding.

First his beloved young wife, Thandiwe is battling a serious illness in a SouthAfrican hospital alone when he should be by her side. His name is heavily soiled in corruption labels in Courts-the very reason his son Henry bolted into self-imposed exile.

We now know that When Nevers Mumba battled to stabilise the party, RB chose to standby waiting for him to fail. Luckily he’s brought sanity to MMD and a reason to believe again.
For RB Stepping aside is the only answer.

    • If RB decides to stand, I will vote for him. All those engaging in badmouthing are showing their family values. I will personally talk to all retirees and old people to rally behind RB and vote for him. All presidential candidates shall go for a medical checkup and the Chief Justice shall accept applications of the candidates who produce health certificate.

    • @Praiseworthy, you are insulting yourself. All presidential candidates shall go for medical examination including heart, HIV, Cancer, Allergies, Skin, dementia etc. Only those cleared by the medical board shall be allowed to file their nomination papers.

  2. WHo acres?

And tell us he is back?

I liked the man but he is diluting and taking most of the public to be fools really isn’t he?

A man of his age, what can he offer?

Stick looking after your beautiful wife Sir

    Thanks

    • Ati Universal Blogger ….you the editors of copy and paste LT…now with the internet and google…every Jim and Jack is a Journalist..including the so called Mushota and his crew..they spent time on Wikipedia and Google and act like they know what time it is..

    • I just forwarded the HH latest “Zambia United” capaign video to Ba Ruphia, he will have sleepless night!! Tomorrow expect RB’s withdraw and defection to UPND.
      Pa kuboko!!

    • Nostradamus,
Young man, I have said it before, I ‘ll say it again you are a lunatic. Your upbring must have been problematic. The language you use, your fascination with death are serious indications that your mental state is totally imbalanced. You are a danger to others. Advising to have treatment is a waste time. For friends of this fellow, care to read his comments and the foul language, only then will you get my point. He is sick in mind. LT must sensor him.

    • @Nostradamus & Tyson Michael
I totally agree with Tyson Michael. I too have read some of Nostradamus comments. They hardly make sense. He is some foolish boy who is full of crap. His fellow bloggers are way ahead. But like they say in every group there is always a tin head. TM is right, he is a danger to society. Some one please lock him up.

    • @2.5 Tyson, how are you and how is your step-dad Ruwe?
So now you learn from your step-d**k to call me “Young man”. Tyson (so many names of you), stay away from me, stop following me, you know am sick in mind, I will molest you.

    • Mushota, you and the morons like you based overseas are not voters. Keep yapping and name calling online. RB is the best.

    • @Nostradamus MDB2014
Young man, you surely are sick. You should not be blogging on this website. You belong to the mental asylum. The most demented blogger of the year (MDB 2014). You are headed for complete madness. LT must seriously look into taming you and chaining you to the tree ‘cos you are up to no good.

    • Nostradamus is not a Zambian. His language speaks volume about his parents separation like that of HH. They do not believe in sanctity of marriage.

  3. If RB stands then it will give PF the advantage knowing very well in place like eastern province , north western & western were HH can gain more votes it will mean polls will favour RB ,leaving HH with Southern province has his only stronghold & at the end PF will walk away first prize.

  4. Like you ba Suntwe, I hope Bwezani is holding that press conference to announce his plans to go tend to his chickens on his farm.

  5. Hopefully, RB is not trying to come back to clear his name or to die in office.

He is not making sense. He can learn from Mulenga Sata.

    • @GUNDIXY

You got it correctly. RB also wants to shamelessly die overseas and come back as cargo like Mwanawasa and Sata, that’s what is motivating him to come back, nothing else. He is a failure and Zambians kicked him out three years later, he removed abuse of office clause, his kids are crooked and one of them is on Interpol, is this the man Zambians would want again?

    • What can he learn from the dog seller?

One day he goes to Court to get an injunction to stand for President, and the very next day he tells us he is pulling out of the race?

Mulenga is styupit and confussed, even more than his father!

This ID!OT has no leadership qualities and should be kicked out of politics.

Just because MCS got elected on lies and has now left Zambia in the SH!T with PF marubbish, he thinks he can be President?

  6. Shameless old man, what more have you got to offer the Nation? You and Sata (Mhsrip) are the same, just greedy old men who enjoy/enjoyed power. Just rest

  7. Why is it that people from the East always want to take over after the death of the president? Banda took over after the death of Levy. Lungu want to talk over after the death of Sata. Can someone tell me please? Is it a cultural thing or what? You people from the East, what’s wrong with you?

    • That’s a tribal comment. At least you should tell us where you are from first. I am from the East, originally, but I d never want to take over from a dead person. I’d rather wait for a genuine election like the 2016 one. If you are from the North its okay because you guys thrive on lies and stealing (pickpocketing) at bus stops.

    • It is not only those from the East. Many others want to take over except that in 2008 RB from East won. We don’t who will win this time among all others.

  8. RB is the man, I notice people claiming that the man stole money. Can anybody tell us which court has ever convicted him of such crime. Can you tell us what he stole either proof. You Zambians never want to learn. Look at the mess politically and economically, we find ourselves in today? Just three years down the line and the devastation is very clear to see. Should we continue burying our heads in the sand? Mealie meal prices, fuel prices, electricity, the general cost of living.the list is endless. When you rewind just three years ago, the RB reign is heven on earth compared to this mess. Wise up people.

    • Brother, you are so right. Kaponyas from UPND whose vote share has been dwindling year after year, funded by arms dealers are busy spewing venom, like their mothball Hungry hyena. Abash HH, Abash Tonga *****ics. Abash all HH supporters, Time for them to cry is fast approaching. It is Edgar Lungu’s time to rule by Law of the land and not by financial engineering of conman Hungry Hyena.

  9. RB for president this next election. Stop saying he was a thief or corrupt. Why has he not been convicted then. The POST newspaper told our country lies about RB. Please please please no tribal people this time!

  10. Vote wisely, vote RB. He has bright young minds with him. Zambia is for all Zambians not just bemba’s or Tonga’s. RB President for all Zambian’s. Nafuti Nafuti!!!!

  11. ALL WELL-MEANING ZAMBIAN CITIZENS KNOW THAT RUPIAH BWEZANI BANDA IS THE RIGHT MAN TO LEAD THIS CURRENTLY DISORGANISED COUNTRY.

ZAMBIA HAS BEEN THE LAUGHING STOCK OF SOUTHERN AFRICA SINCE2011. THIS COUNTRY IS MOVING INTO A DEEP CRISIS.

PF CANNOT LEAD THIS COUNTRY. WE HAVE NOT HAD A PRESIDENT SINCE MAY. AND ZAMBIANS STILL ACCEPT THE RUBBISH PF LEADERSHIP.

WE CANNOT HAVE THESE INCOMPETENT CHAPS AS MINISTERS. MINISTERS HAD SOME DIGNITY BEFORE 2011, BUT NOW WITH PEOPLE LIKE KAMBWILI AND FRIENDS, I DONT KNOW WHERE THIS COUNTRY IS GOING.

LET US VOTE WISELY, I AM URGING CITIZENS WHO WANT TO WITNESS NATIONAL PROSPERITY.

ZAMBIA IS NOW A JOKE, A BIG BIG JOKE!!!

  12. Zambia is in a mess! RB is our bridge to a fresh start in 2016 because he won’t qualify to run again after this poll

    • RB is hoodwinking all of us into believing he will only serve till 2016. My guess is once voted into office he will change the constitution and before you know what’s hit you he will be in office for life. Watch out electorate we are at risk if this man comes back. The sight of his arrogant sons back in government corridors makes me squirm. If the way he has zwipad Mumba is anything to go by. The man is ruthless. You have been warned ni zanu!

  13. RB will be remembered for starting all infrastructural development projects which Sata hijacked, renamed and later claimed. Remember, Sata condemned these projects as an opposition leader and insisted that what was important was ‘more jobs, lower taxes and more money in people’s pockets’. Once these promises failed, he jumped on infrastructural projects which he earlier condemned. We call it playing on people’s minds, especially simple minds

    • franco yes it maybe it be in MMD,s manifesto but no one in MMD thought of constructing the dual carriage way between Kitwe& chingola & the most important roads in Zambia, but when the late Sata came in power immediately he started working on it,as am saying its taking its sharp, people are interested in implementation not cheap political talk & Sata did implement.

  14. RB will unite Zambians from all regions in the midst of heavy tribal divisions He will repair the country’s image
    RB for Presido

  15. m
My Prayer that RB will through the night see through his candidacy and find it whole heartedly to step aside from wanting to contest . We want to see his respect, honor and his usual dignity maintained and not lost and destroyed. Let Nevers run for Presidency. Let all troubled waters be bygone and never an issue any more. Tomorrow it is either RB rebuild up or self destroy depending on how he does things. Good blessings to RB , his Wife MMD members and Country at large. For Edgar Lungu , if he goes through and win Presidency, let him consider HARRY KALABA among those on Vice Presidency for PF. GOOD LUCK ALL.

  16. This man is dull and very selfish. Just shows that he IS the thief that he has portrayed himself to be. How can you come from retirement to replace a duly elected and incumbent party president and purport that the people need you…truly nyama soya

  17. I’ll be disappointed if he drops out of the race & backs under 5! HH is still a novice, needs to learn the trade & can do that under RB for the next 2 years.

  18. Ndani Ati Asunge Tandi? Kwachimbokaila Kuyofya. Mupaseni Ulesi Fire. Rb Go And Campaign At Your I Think U Can Do Well At The Farm.

  19. Pssssssssssssssst! Hey Copperbelt Cadres; that ran out Muhabi Lungu from his office………..BANDA ……..went -that -a -way !!

He ‘s going to be at 09:00hrs holding a press briefing at the MMD SECRETARIAT,

You know what to do! Good luck, his really fat and old he can’t run fast!

  20. dont dwell on momentary pleasures be wise, look at long term goals, look at the potential of A candidate, be wise RB his here to reedem us from this trauma .
RB all the way. nafuti nafuti reloaded

  21. MMD should try to resolve their differences in a civilized fashion. This was once the party of the elite of Zambia. Has it now gone to the dogs?

  22. The big man has read the mood of the country is towards HH. So he wants announce that his intentions of standing on MMD are off, and he`ll pledge to support HH.

  23. Rupiah coming to active politics entail either another funeral in making for the head of state or more expenses using tax payers money to take care of his old age. Over Sata government kept on saying is fine. I wish these PF chaps can be arrested for telling lies to Zambians regarding the health of the late president. In history the only president who managed to sought out the mess of the previous regime was Capt Thomas Sankara. He arrested all the crooks from the previous government. He managed to contain cases of measles. Changed the name of upper volta to Burkina Faso which means the land of incorruptible. In addition, he managed to plan trees to mitigate the effects of Saharan effects. Having said that Rupiah is not eligible to come back please we have other Zambian to rule

  24. HH is not going to manage this country. He will mismanage this country and will in the end privatise our beautiful zambia. Lets vote for people who will not Tongalise our economy and zambia.one Zambia, one Nation.

    • What is wrong with you? Why do u hate tongas so much? what is the meaning of one zambia one nation if u cant embrace other tribes? you would rather go for a rifraf and crook than voting for a tonga person even when they were a good leader and qualified for the job. It really breaks my heart. But one thing u should know is that no situation is permanent, u can label tongas to be tribal but one day your schemes will never work. Go to southern province especially in areas where there is water and large scale fishing and ask other tribes that have settled there if they are being humiliated or discriminated against by tongas. Thy live peacefully with tongas and tongas dont even care that their waters have been hijacked by other tribes, they have just concentrated on their farming. stop it pliz

  25. When ‘probes’ are being landed on a comet, we are debating between re-accepting a dinosaur to usurp power and having a breath of fresh air governance. I can’t believe there is even a consideration for ‘Nyama Soya’ from some quarters.

  26. VOTE WISELY

    Honesty
Whatever ethical plane you hold yourself to, when you are responsible for a team of people, its important to raise the bar even higher

    Ability to Delegate
Finessing your brand vision is essential to creating an organized and efficient business, but if you don’t learn to trust your team with that vision, you might never progress to the next stage

    Communication
Knowing what you want accomplished may seem clear in your head, but if you try to explain it to someone else and are met with a blank expression, you know there is a problem.

    Sense of Humor
If your website crashes, you lose that major client, or your funding dries up, guiding your team through the process without panicking is as challenging as it is important. Morale is linked to…

  27. What has RB done for MMD since he lost power? The man abandoned the party like sweet potato. He may win Eastern Province but that will not take him to State House. He will lose in Northern, Muchinga, Luapula, Western, Southern, Copperbelt, Lusaka, and Central. He may get few votes in North Western Province but that will not be enough. Go home old man.

  28. I hope you will be announcing your withdrawal from being MMD candidate, YOU CREEP. Even if I wouldn’t vote for him, BUT let Nevers Mumba continue with building his party. Where were you when the party was going through problems? And you think you can just jump out of nowhere to take over after Mumba has stabilized the situation. Go and do some farming, you selfish creepy thieving old rag!

  29. You are heart broken because you want to tongalize zambia. There is no rifraf in Zambian politics. HH will only mess up this country.

  30. Somebody alert the monkeys that weeweed on him from up a tree once when he was giving a briefing to come back and do it again. It might make him think twice.

  31. ….thank God at last he has come to his senses now by making it clear that he has no intention of ‘coming back’…those ‘parasites’ who had even drawn a budget out of what they were expecting to milk him are now confused… already looking for the next prey/victim….
…the only sorry thing is that NEVERS image has been dented….he requires a divine and academic strategy to repair it…

  32. I was not aware that the Zambian constitution sets an upper age limit for presidential candidate. If not then it recognizes that even we old people have something to contribute to our society. Or do young Zambians think that we old people are witches, as I have heard in certain ethnic groupings?

  33. Nanga ndine mwana wanyoko!!
RB is really getting old, very soon dementia will kick in lol.
i know you are not my mother’s son.. I’m just saying!!!!

  34. MICHAEL Kaingu says the Bantu Botatwe have regrouped in UPND to share political positions and that the party lacks national character.

Kaingu, who is MMD Mwandi member of parliament, said in an interview that UPND leader Hakainde Hichilema might not rule Zambia because of his inclination to tribalism and regionalism.

He said Hichilema had failed to convince voters that he had support outside the Bantu Botatwe regions.

“What has happened to UPND is the enlargement of the Bantu Botatwe who in essence are one people. It’s about people from his province (Southern), Western, Lambaland and North Western Province. Look at the people who have joined his campaign! They are Bantu Botatwe and their traditional cousins; it’s the Bantu Botatwe regrouping in the regional party,” he said…

  35. Former president Rupiah Banda has been issued with an adoption certificate by the MMD.

The former president accepted the adoption by his party and said he would re-unite the nation.

“A PF ni amambala” for not adopting the constitution,’ said Banda at a press briefing Thursday morning when he accepted the adoption.

Banda said he has been forced out of retirement due to poor management of the economy by the Patriotic Front government.
He said Zambians should not make a mistake of electing people who have never been tested in government.
Banda was unveiled at the MMD party secretariat Thursday morning and was handed the MMD adoption certificate by MMD National Chairperson for Elections Kenneth Chipungu.

Meanwhile, Nevers Mumba who was granted an injunction to stop the MMD from…
