RDA launches road maintenance strategy for the period 2015-2024

Share

The Road Development Agency has launched a maintenance strategy for the period 2015- 2024 in a bid to maintain the road infrastructure in the country.

Speaking when he officially launched the strategy, Works and Supply Minister Yamfwa Mukanga said the strategy was pivotal to development in the road sector as maintenance has consistently remained a challenge despite programmes such as the Road Sector Investment Programmes of 1998 and 2003.

He said the road sector has since independence concentrated on major construction and upgrading of roads so as to improve connectivity but that the roads also need to be maintained if their full life and value is to be realised.

He explained that the strategy is aimed at setting the pace for the provision of the maintenance activities on the core road network by prioritizing maintenance alongside other development programmes.

And RDA Board Chairman Willie Nsanda noted the need for a clear strategy to maintain the roads being constructed which he said was the reason for the development of the maintenance strategy.

The duo where speaking at Lusaka’s Mika Convention Centre.

    • This is news is really shallow and worthiless to me as a tax payer. This is some titbits between two fellas who are really living it up. Is it me? Are these guys actually Zambians going by their looks? If that’s the case then we have detrimentally evolved in Zambia. Nevertheless, we can see through you fellas. A deal is about to be struck and we are gonna see a lot of dodgy deals springing up suddenly. Funny that the duration of the percieved deal agreement is stated but not the cost of it. How much money will this initiative cost? who is financing it? how much money is there? What is the statement of work? how is this different from before? What gives you the confidence to sign long term deal? How are you accounting for it? Therefore, ministers we think you can do bettern than this.

    • Where are the millions going to come from if PF has ;

      – failed to pay for the existing road contracts?
      – failed to pay the farmers?
      – failed to pay students and fund learning institutions?
      – failed to fund hospitals?
      – failed to pay men and women in uniform their operational
      allowances.

PF like road constructions because its top officials get a lot of kick backs from rogue foreign contractors.

  1. Let these plebs continue monkeying about. Their days are numbered. Come 20th January let us do the right thing and evict this bigots. Then we should carry out an extensive audit of the RDA. Nsanda doesnt seem to say anything of substance. His statements leave alot to be desired. Can he give us the the forecasted impacts or aims and time frame of this so called strategy. All he did was give a grade nine opinion on the issue.

  2. Please January 20 call. Tired of these thieves, We are going to cage these people. HH is the only answer, watch the floor, this might be the money to fund Mungu’s campaign. Guy Scott should be on the look out, 30 plus days is a long time to put money into their pockets.

  3. Mere window dressing who is approving all these projects….these thugs are now running road construction in Zambia getting fatter everyday

  4. Fi SAKALA fyeka fyeka they are now bribing judges?? If I were scott I would task the anti corruption to handle these bois, That would put fear into Lungu,

  5. This should read PF launches the election slush fund. through the RDA FUND votes will b e. Purchased Chiefs bribed and Panga fighters financed to either purchase voters cards or disrupt elections . THIS is a sad development for Zambia and nobody really knows that this is like the Mafia launching

  6. Lusaka needs a major ring road touching great east road at Silverest, great north road at Chilanga, Mongu road at Nampundwe and great north road at ten miles. Then you would have sorted out all the congestion in Lusaka at once. This land mark is needed urgently

    • Only when we have technocrats heading these institutions and not greedy selfish kaponyas like this crook…can we bring to fruition this innovative ideas or solutions.

    • Jay Jay

Where are you based? You left the Kaponyas running the country why dont you come back home and help us the Kaponyas and Katondo boys . I wish we could run the affairs of the country with just a remote control from across the ocean,,,but thats not how things are done,,,just come home and we talk.

      2015 vote PF (Edgar)

      i thank you

  7. Jokers in government. People like Saulosi should not be any where close to money. We know what they are capable of doing. Whenever they enter any supermarket, tills just jam automatically.
