Kasama Central lMember of Parliament Geoffrey Mwamba has been acquitted of assaulting his former employee by the Lusaka Magistrate Court after the complainant in the matter withdrew the case against Mwamba.

Geoffrey Mwamba, 55, a businessman popularly known as “GBM”is alleged to have assaulted his operations manager at Arizona Marketing and Distributions Company , Collins Mudai thereby occasioning him actual bodily harm.

When the matter came up for continued trial before Magistrate Prince Mwiinga, the state applied for the matter to be withdrawn saying the complainant in the matter had stated that he was not ready to proceed with the case as he had forgiven and reconciled with the accused
person.

And one of GBM’s lawyers Sakwiba Sikota said the application to have the matter withdrawn is also supported by facts surrounding the case such as the medical report that showed no physical marks on the complainant hence there were no aggravating circumstances that could stop the matter from being withdrawn.

Mr Sikota further said the court should encourage the complainant and accused to live a harmonious life by accepting the application.

He added that the court should also take in account the spirit of Jubilee where both parties in the matter should have a fresh beginning based on mutual forgiveness.

And Magistrate Mwiinga granted the application and acquitted Geoffrey Mwamba of his assault case against his former employee.

Speaking in an interview after he was acquitted, Mwamba said he had expected his acquittal in the matter even if the case went through a full trial because as far as he was concerned he never assaulted the complainant.

And Collins Mudai the complainant in the matter said he was at first aggrieved and hurt but has since forgiven GBM.

  1. Each european citizen is entitled to use its mother language in the european parliament, the european commission, in their public speech and correspondence with their public administration.

Except Ethiopia, and the arabic countries, all african countries are using european colonial languages as the only official languages for public administration.

    • Please research before you comment, you are wrong and accept it, it is not Ethiopia and Arabic countries as you call them, also Somalia which uses Somali as it official language instead of Italian it colonisers language and also Tanzania which uses kiSwahili as official language, a majority of civil servants and MPs cant speek english in Tanzania

    • 73 languages loved by their owners. Which of these would be picked as the “zambian” language or chi-zambian, si-zambian? You could have succeeded if there was no Zambia but “Barotseland”, “Bembaland”, “Tongaland” “chewaland” etc. Even Zimbabwe which has only 2 dominant languages has failed to come up with a single official language. Bemba is only dominant in copperbelt and northern regions while itIis gibberish in south, east and west. Keep your dreams for your children and grand children.

    • Bwana Mululu’s is purely an academic argument. In reality every Zambian knows exactly why our official language is english. Just go to Chipata and try to make kids in schools learn ciBemba. And then go into every office and do likewise. Try to tell a Nsenga woman in Petauke that the only way she can apply for a position is if she learns ciBemba first. And see that woman tell you the place and time she’s going to bury you in the grave. Or go to Kasama and try to make those Bemba kids learn chiNyanja. You are asking for chaos, if not total war.

Let’s just accept it that this is the hand we Zambians were dealt. Let’s live with it.

    • @Mululu you are being simplistic to the extent of being naive. Most of the pride in European language is borne out of a sense of accomplishment and self-sufficiency amongst others. If you are able to originate a BMW, a Bordeaux and an original articulate education system for example, your ethnicity will sell with very little resistance. Trouble with Zambians, like most of Afrika is that we think dancing and running our mouths is enough to forge dominance of language. No, sir/madam, it is not that simple…

  2. On a tiny continent like Europe, every small ethnic group like the French, the Germans or the Dutch keeps their language, and are entitled to use it as a working language, why on earth on a continent like Africa we won ’t use our own language?
If Europeans were lazy and ignorant like Africans, they would simply say “It’s too complicated.
Here is my call to all Africans who want to fight the colonial languages in our education and public administration.
    – Let’s starting forcing our governments to use our languages in public administration.
If for convenience only your government included any native language in your country official languages, start sending letters, and requests to government in that language.
    – If you go to public administration refuse to be served in colonial…

    • Colonialism not only came with a new language but also brought with it countless benefits such as good clothes, technology such as a motor vehicle, the gospel we love so much, reading and writing, medicine etc why are you not advocating for the rejection of these as well? Just say you are just a racist. Fortunately your kind are in the majority.

  3. politicaly motivited cases by the former SG of the PF Kabimba dying a natural death because it was aimed at puling his then potential political obstacles down.
waisting our courts time and money

  4. …….language, and speak in any of the other official languages which are local.
    – If the government or the public administration refuse to serve you in an official language, bring them into court, and have them condemned for refusing to serve citizen in an official language of the country.

    – If you have a company start using your native language in your invoices, orders and receipts, and slowly upgrade to make your local language the conversation language inside your company. Do not hire people who can not speak in their local language properly. Slowly upgrade to writing.

  5. What to Dawson Lumpunga? He would have put alll thse bullies in their place. Lol I bet he could take on KAMBWILI AND NSANDA at the same time and knock them out.lol

  6. This is what money can buy you. And it’s not only in Zambia. Anyway, this fat pig will get his one day. One way or another.

  7. Poor man versus rich man. GBM knew that if the case proceeded he would lose and face a few days behind bars. The poor man compared the benefit of having GBM go to a stinking lice-infested cell and not receivibg his ‘terminal’ benefits from the boss. He chose money and GBM missed being company to general and mufumbwe mp. Mr GBM next tim it may not work out sir.

  8. You can buy anything these days, including an acquittal.

Hope Chap got paid well, a house, servants, monthly pay for life, wife and kids allowances ……I could go on for ever.

I wouldn’t let this turkey off lightly!

  9. And one of GBM’s lawyers Sakwiba Sikota said the application to have the matter withdrawn is also supported by facts surrounding the case such as the medical report that showed no physical marks on the complainant hence there were no aggravating circumstances that could stop the matter from being withdrawn.

SS No wonder you are supporting EL.Where is your party?
