Government says it is firmly committed to support and promote the growth of a vibrant media industry in the country.

Information and Broadcasting Services Permanent Secretary Chanda Kasolo says the State wants to see a competitive, free and responsible vibrant media.

He added that it was government’s desire to see that the media that plays an active role in the democratic and economic dispensation of the country.

ZANIS reports that Mr Kasolo said this when he officiated at the tenth anniversary of 5 fm radio station held at Golden Peacock Hotel last evening in Lusaka.

Mr Kasolo said government will support and assist any media institution in the country that wants to expand its operations.

The Permanent Secretary commended 5fm radio proprietor Mateyo Phiri for entering into a partnership with a Chinese Media publishing and broadcasting company in order to expand and improve services.

He noted that the media under the PF government is operating freely and providing adequate coverage to all stake holders.

Mr Kasolo commended the media for providing adequate and fair coverage to all political parties currently campaigning for the January 20, 2015 presidential by-election.

And speaking earlier, Mr Phiri thanked government for levelling the playing field in the media industry.

He said his Radio Station will endeavour to connect the local consumers to the global market and provide accurate information for people to make informed decisions.

Mr Phiri appealed to government to approve 5 fm radio’s request to expand its operations and broadcast to central and Copperbelt provinces.

  1. Since when? What have you criminals stolen to be so scared. You are so scared that you don’t even realise that you president has a Malawian mother therefore will be disqualified last minute. Mulenga has confirmed even the sister that they are from Malawi.

Just start preparing tissue and Vaseline for your prison sentences. They boys are waiting in there. I have no Sympathy for a thief.

You solution is to rig whatever the cost. but you time will come even if not now.

    Regards.

  2. Mr. Kasolo’

When you say “…the State wants to see a competitive, free and responsible vibrant media…” can you please clarify what do you actually trying to say?
    (a) State owned media should be independent from political influence in editorial matters? If that is the case, why you personally are interfering 24/7?
    (b) How you expect private owned media to be “free and responsible” when its subjected daily to harassment perpetuated by the State organs (yourself included), uneducated MP’s and thuggish ministers?
Your response in plain English language will be appreciated.
    Thanking you in advance.

  3. I thought Kasolo you would edit your speech so that you condemn the harrassment of a MUVI-TV reporter who was threatened to be dumped in the Barotse plain by Bemba speaking PF thugs in Mongu yesterday. Alas you are the chief press muzzler. You and Pf ve over-stayed your welcome.

  4. Proof on Lungu’s parentage was given to Scott by 2 people that were close to Sata. OP and immigration also handed their findings to Scott that’s why he kept on saying some Pf presidential aspirants dont qualify because of the parentage clause. Just that Lungu is ill informed otherwise he would ve allowed Sampa to stand & he becomes his vice. Inonge knows this that’s why she is seen to be fighting Sampa when she is in league with Namakando M’membe and Sampa to finish off Lungu.

    • @Dimakwenda

I think Lungu must be intelligent and at least sober enough to understand he will be disqualified. Question is: why is he even carrying on the campaigns?

  5. If that is the case then your government should not spend so much time mentioning online media and grumbling/complaining about what is written online. It actually eased off a little when y’all discovered FB (heaven help us when you figure Twitter out)… Chuckle.

  6. The entire Kasolo clan that was employed by their cousinMichael Sata risks losing their jobs come January 22 that’s why he is trying by all means to exhibit idiocy.
