Gift Kampamba tells Chipolopolo to win AFCON opener

Share

Ex-Chipolopolo midfielder Gift Kampamba says it is important for Zambia to win their opening match at the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations in Equatorial Guinea.

Zambia faces DR Congo on January 18 before taking on Tunisia four days later and will conclude their Group B matches against Cape Verde.

In an interview in Kitwe, Kampamba said winning the opening match would determine Zambia’s readiness to advance to the quarterfinals.

“It is always important to win your first game at a tournament.

Winning the first game will help us to be sure whether Zambia will qualify to the quarterfinals,” he said.

Kampamba predicted that the match between Zambia and Congo would be tricky.

“I can’t say we are beating them or they are beating us. You know this is a local derby they know us and we know them,” the Nkana assistant coach said.

Kampamba wished Honour Janza’s side well as they go to the Africa Cup.

“I am wishing the team good luck. Let them work hard and make the country happy,” he said.
