Wasteful Zambia face AFCON elimination after Tunisia loss

Share

Wasteful Zambia squandered a 1-0 lead to lose 2-1 to Tunisia in the two sides second Group B match at the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations in Equatorial Guinea on Thursday evening.

This result has weakened Chipolopolo’s chances of advancing to the quarterfinals following a 1-1 draw against DR Congo in their opening match on Sunday.

Honour Janza’s side had wasted several chances before striker Emmanuel Mayuka opened the scoring in the 59th minute with a close range effort after being set up by captain Rainford Kalaba.

Attempting to double Zambia’s lead Mayuka missed a sitter and injured himself in proces forcing Janza to replace him with Jackson Mwanza as the Southampton striker was rushed to the hospital.

This seemed to have been the turning point for Tunisia who equalised three minutes later with unmarked Saber Khalifa tapping in a corner inside the box.

Yassine Chikhaoul sealed the win for the North Africans with an 87th minute powerful header to silence Zambians.

    Cried my beloved country.

Am too saddened to notice that a country that has a motto one zambia one nation could be torn to such an extent on tribal basis.

It is really shocking how southern province has voted in this election. Does this mean they heed what Mr Munkombwe advised them? How can all Tongas vote for HH in this country(99%)? This is not right in a country with 72 tribes.

It’s really heart breaking that they have decided to do this even after taking development to that province. SATA decided to make Choma the provincial capital and now the infrastructure is looking good on that area but alas they can’t appreciate anything.

I pray that when EL assumes office won’t avenge on these brothers of ours but take…

    • Crying on the same fate. How do you expect success in your life with this kind of mentality. What is really wrong with pf to receive such insults from the tonga *****s

    • What do u expect when people claim only your tribe as tribal but omitting the reality.pf is bemba because sata appointed 99% of his administration is from north.its very true zambia is being torn apart by politicians.zambia needs a leader..nevers mumba..nawakwi…Hh

    • WASTEFUL LUNGU WEAKENS HIS CHANCE WITH POWER HUNGRY RB JOINING THEM .
HHHHHHH IS THE WINNER AM TUMBUKA AND LIVE IN MONZE AND I VOTED FOR HHHHHHHHHHHHHHH AS BETWEEN THESE TWO CAN SEE DEVELOPMENT IN ZAMBIA
ZAMBIA /TUNISIA GAME IS A REPLICA OF PF/UPND
LESA NALANDA THROUGH BA ZAMBIA ATI ITS HHHHHHH WINNING .

    • wait hang on , if capeverde loses and Tunisia loses and congo loses then we are still in the game or……………………………………. let me come back to you.

    • This is what happens WHEN you believe YOU NEED TO DEFEND A LONE GOAL!! ATTACK is & will ALWAYS REMAIN the BEST DEFENCE!!

Ba “ROBIN” naimwe, always trying to rely on others misfortune to qualify you?? What a strategy – that’s why Zed is where it finds itself, with PF relying on abayashi!!

    • It means they are just more informed that’s all, they are not easily cheated by these other cheats, what’s wrong with that kansi?

    • @kapoli,What of Ghana?what are they relying on?if it is not misfortune of the other team.Remember Ghana were rated as favourites to lift the trophy. They are no small teams any more as qualifying was on merit.Where are the defending champions(Nigeria) if i may ask?

  2. Zambians are just stupid in the way of doing things. Someone gives you a face uplift like delivering a mungu kalabo road and reward him with spit of saliva on his face. That can only be appreciated if delivered by a fellow tribesman

  3. Very less hope for Zambia now. A number of players were superb but Mayuka and Mtonga were very disappointing. The coach would have done better

    • The coach is as inept as the his strikers, if he had read the game early enough he would not have kept that importent Mayuka that long

  4. In 1994 we came second at the AFCON. Nigeria beat us 2-1. But we celebrated for two days and when the boys came back we held a series of celebrations as a country
This was important for us as a country. It was the second time we were nearly winning the AFCON CUP.
So when I see UPND conducting celebrations, I remember 1994.
So don’t mind the celebrations. Sometimes even number 2 is such an achievement.

    ONE EDGAR

    i thank you

    • @Katondo boys first let me say i don’t support any political party in zambia i don’t a reason one bonse nibakabwalalala but i feel sorry for UPND if the are going to keep HH this is the last time they will celebrate second best it is a time to move on HH never started UPND it is not like Sata who started his own party.

  5. THE PARTY IS ABOUT TO……….fill in the blanks please

This is the end of the show…With one Constituency remaining Luiwa and 75% Chama South almost done…ITS EDGAR LUNGU at 801,080.00 and HH 740,421….What an election congregation to Zambia,,,Love you all,,,

NOT SO FAST…….UPND MAY YOUR SOUL REST IN PEACE

    ONE EDGAR……

    i thank you,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

    • KATONDO

My flight is tomorrow ,lets meet at the stadium for inauguration. Do not forget to bring max cool ,it will be hot ! chikakashika!!!!!

  6. Sad about the latest football result, but it is not over yet! Go for it boys. Proud to be Zambian ; who ever wins the election we are ONE ZAMBIA ONE NATION!

  7. Fortunately for Zambia; Cape Verde & DRC drew. Zambia needs to take their chances against Cape Verde since goal difference will be key.

  8. the game was incredible…………all we needed was to introduce malama for usesless mbola.work on striking force pairs.

    • That is why Jacob Mulenga should have been called. But it looks that Janza who has only coached ZESCO united and has no silverware to show for thinks he can win the Africa Cup with inexperienced players. Much as it is important to build a new team, he should have done away with veteran players gradually by keeping those that are performing at their clubs in the team.

  9. Evans Kangwa was very stingy in that game. The boy wanted personal glory, he couldn’t pass the ball to his friends who had better scoring opportunities and ended up shooting at goal even from tight angles. Jackson Mwanza came in and was worse because he couldn’t be seen throughout the game. Christopher Muntali did well in defence. Kalaba really wanted Zambia to win, he accounted for himself very well.

  10. bushe mwebantu do u read the heading b4 commenting or u jst go straight to the opinions? the heading is talking abt chipolopolo and faz not politics dont u see the heading wch is talkin abt hh,edgar and results?

  11. We played well. We were at least able to move forward and create chances which is very encouraging. All we need is to concentrate at the back and turn our chances into goals. Its just that we lack concentration which we need to work on. In football, you have to concentrate through out the game up to the last whistle. I just feel that the coach should have rested Mayuka much earlier in the game and introduced Sate-Sate. Its actually in our fever that DRC, Cape Verde was scoreless. We need to win the last game by at least 2 unanswered goals to have a chance.

    Go Zambia Go.
