Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi has been elected as chairman of the 53-nation African Union.

Col. Gaddafi was elected by delegates at the AU summit in Ethiopia.

A BBC correspondent at the summit says Col Gaddafi was seen to be the obvious choice, but some delegates are uneasy about his nomination.

AU spokeswoman Habiba Mejri-Sheikh said Col. Gaddafi was elected “by the heads of state in a closed-door session, for a one-year period”.

“He is currently addressing the assembly as president, to outline his programme and his intentions,” she said.

Col. Gaddafi replaces the Tanzanian president, Jakaya Kikwete.

In its earlier sessions, AU delegates called for a lifting of sanctions against Zimbabwe.

The call followed the announcement on Friday that the opposition would be joining a unity government.

On Sunday, the summit debated a Libyan-backed proposal to set up a single government – the United States of Africa.

In a compromise, the summit agreed to transform the African Union Commission, which oversees the body, into an AU Authority that would have a broader mandate, Mr. Kikwete said.

“In principle, we said the ultimate is the United States of Africa. How we proceed to that ultimate – there are building blocks,” Mr. Kikwete said.

How can you do this behind my back???? ok nomba naya!!! I wll comment tomorrow! Got assignments to do!!!!

    Night Jamaco!!!! :*

  2. AFRICAN LEADERS NEVER NEVER CEASE TO AMAZE ME, they can’t stand up to mugabe, they elect a dictator to be the head of AU n what’s this united states of AFrica napapata our own leaders can barely handle and they have no one to answer to and rebel groups r rampant in many african countries ine awe this is definitely a threat to peace in Zed and other peaceful african countries no no no[-([-([-( Even Bwezani what does he MEAN ZAMBIA SUPPORTS THE IDEA IS HE BWEZANI ZAMBIA? did mp’s vote or just rough estimate show that they r in support.

  3. Carrying the same passports with Nigerians and Senegalese – my foot. This will just make innocent citizens in most law abiding countries suffer. I will never want to be part of this circus.

  4. Gaddafi is good for Africa. I think he will do wonders for Africa. We need a radical person like him at this point in the development process of Africa. More tractors for Zambia and more food in the bellies of the people.

  5. Before he arrived at the summit, he circulated a letter saying he was coming as the king of the traditional kings of Africa and he wanted to be seated as the king of kings, our correspondent says.

Col Gaddafi has previously outlined his vision for African unity.

He wants a single African military force, a single currency and a single passport for Africans to move within the continent.

Last August, a meeting of more than 200 African kings and traditional rulers bestowed the title “king of kings” on the Libyan leader
MMMH I DON’T REALLY SUPPORT THIS N ZAMBIA IS BEING FED BITS COZ BWEZANI CLAIMED ZAMBIA SUPPORTED AS IF WE EVEN VOTED OR MOTION PASSED IN PARLIAMENT MA’LABBISHI

  6. awe the ony reason he was voted for is because it was north africa’s time n he is the most intergrative north african leader but otherwise if it were never regional mmhhhh some pipo would never see that chance

  7. Come to think about it, we don’t have “firebrand” leaders in Africa anymore. The Nyereres, Mandelas,Nkrumah,Kaundas are long gone now we have leaders who can’t stand on their own feet and say what they want without looking over their shoulders to what the East or West will say so I guess Gaddafi was the obvious choice.

  8. #22 its because its the turn for the north african region and gadaffi is very clever he is more in touch with the leaders of other regions compared to his counterparts, hence the election

  9. “AU spokeswoman Habiba Mejri-Sheikh said Col. Gaddafi was elected “by the heads of state in a closed-door session, for a one-year period”.”

What is this one-year period closed-door session by Col. Gaddafi to the Head of States from African countries.

Also, have these people who are advancing a US of Africa checked what went wrong with the USSR and/or how the EU is gradually expanding due to considerations that seriously look at the interests of the people who started it with regards to the values of those that are applying to join it.

Let us not just copy the USA but do what is health to apply in our African setup and system.

  10. Zambia is a sovereign state Bwezani should not vote for a motion which has not be subject to referendum or passed in parliament. and this Gadaffi who has been president since ’69 is the one spearheading this? In Zambia, Malawi many other east southern and few west african countries it’s unconstituitional! thats the first blockade right there, for him he decides for his people but for other leaders such us ours. We can cooperate economically but political views couldn’t be further apart!! what political stance shall this US of Africa take then.

  11. Maybe I’m being naive, but I’ll tell you this, the U.S of Africa is not feasible at this time.Africa is too divided and our leaders too power hungry to relinguish it.How can the same leaders who have persistently supported a disastrous dictatorial presidency of a lunatic like Mugabe easily give up power to one African president? It’s such a joke.Only it’s not funny.

  13. ADDIS ABABA, Feb 2 (Reuters) – Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi was elected chairman of the African Union on Monday and made clear he would pursue his vision of a United States of Africa despite reluctance from many members.

Resplendent in golden robes and cap and hailed as “king of kings” by traditional African leaders who accompanied him, Gaddafi accepted a gavel from the outgoing chairman, Tanzanian President Jakaya Kikwete, at a summit in Ethiopia.

He told fellow summit leaders that his project to create a united continental government would be approved at the next meeting in July unless there was a majority against it.

The AU normally relies on consensus in reaching decisions

  14. If we don’t have a quorum for rejection, that means we have accepted it,” Gaddafi said.

“There is a rule in Islam. It is that silence is approval. If you say something to somebody and he is silent then it means that he has accepted.”

  15. Bwezani is a sellout. Not fit to be President. He is the type that sold his kinsmen to arab slave traders for tot of rum or bracelet of beads.

  16. ZAMBIA TWAPYA WE SHALL SELL OUR SOVEREIGNTY FOR A FEW CHEAP TRACTORS I TELL YOU BWEZANI WATCH OUT, THE PEOPLE HAVE THE POWER N WE FOUGHT FOR INDEPENDENCE NOT ONLY TO GIVE IT AWAY TO A TYRANT :o:o[-([-( WHY DO WE NEED ONE PASSPORT once currency( maybe in distant future) but i am not giving up my Zambian passport only to get AFRICAN PASSPORT.

since he failed to convince arabs with WHOM HE HAS MORE IN COMMON WITH TO FORM UNITED STATES HE WANTS TO PREY ON THE AFRICAN STATES WHICH HE HAS NOTED R WEAK n wishy washy but me i will shed for my zabmbian ness its my identity gigo!!

  17. and so this GADAFFI MAN THINKS THAT HE CAN IMPOSE THIS ON US ATI SILENCE IS AS GOOOD AS YES! NWAY THOSE WHO DON’T WANT TO PARTICIPATE WE WON’T!! THAT’S THE PROBLEM WITH DICTATORS THEY DICTATE EVERYWHERE ASSUMING EVERYONE IS UNDER THEIR JURISDICTION OR OBLIGED TO FOLLOW ORDERS ATA IF NIGERIA VOTES YES SO ZAMBIA SHOULD JOIN? eish imagine sharing passports ahhhhhaaaaaa very funny it would be impossible for AFRICANS TO GET VISAs maweehh!

  18. #39 you r right but luckily there are enough smart zambians who have caught onto the tractor deal by now and sooon i predict it will be a hot topic n bwezani is not Zambia n what is this closed door fimo fimo?? anyway Zambia will not partake sillyness even if bwezani is cheating himself

  19. Imwe, Arabs are worse than the westerners. Gadaffi is no different. he just wants to use the AU/US of Africa to “colonise” Sub-Saharan Africa. These Moslems have an agenda to convert non-Muslims and they will every forum to do so. look at Darfur, the Arabs are the ones killing and enslaving, yes enslaving black Darfurians and committing ra.pe in an operation called “planting tomato”. The Berbers, Touregs and Kabylie in North Africa are still suffering at the hands of the Arabs. Trust Gadaffi, but at your own peril.

  20. Zambia Prepares Model Farm As Mining Alternative

Another 56.5 billion kwacha was be used by small scale farmers countrywide to grow export crops, mainly maize, he said.

Zambia is completing a model farm meant to encourage economic diversification from copper and cobalt mining to agriculture, finance minister Situmbeko Musokotwane said on Monday.
The 155,000-hectre Nansanga farm will be ready for foreign and local investors this year as the country pushes to grow more export crops to reduce dependency of copper exports, he said.

  21. Musokotwane said an initial 42.4 billion kwacha ($9.19 million) had been allocated in the budget he unveiled last Friday for infrastructure development at Nansanga.

“In terms of electricity, I can confidently say we are 80 percent done with the works,” he said.

“What we need is electricity for irrigation farming and there is money provided in the budget to do roads and dams, which will be for our small scale farmers while we will let the big (farmers) to sort themselves out.

Another 56.5 billion kwacha was be used by small scale farmers countrywide to grow export crops, mainly maize, he said.

  22. Musokotwane said part of the Nansanga land would be awarded to European investors keen to grow crops for biofuels and that the government would soon engage contractors to do roads and dams to ensure there is irrigation farming all year round.

The global financial crisis has hit copper exports and Zambia has said its economy cannot continue to rely on the copper industry, the country’s economic mainstay.

  23. Where is Shalapungu Banton, I miss him.

Events are going to unravel so rapidly in the next five to ten years that we shall be reeling from trying to adjust. It shall be one thing after the other because the time has come for the beginning of the end. People, prepare for the tribulation soon. But before that, there will be a time of ‘peace and prosperity’, the calm before a storm. Now, we shall see a separation of the holy and the unholy. The vile and and pure. The time is at hand, preach the gospel to all mankind.

  24. HE IS EVEN THREATENING BUT U KNOW IN THESE TIMES WE APPRECIATE DICTATORS LIK MUSEVENI WHO REFUSE TO JOIN BECAUSE THEY REALIZE THEY ARE GIVING UP SOME POWERS. EVEN IF ITS FOR THE WRONG REASONS ITS BETTER THAN BWEZANI GUYS SERIOUSLY HE IS SELLING ZAMBIA THATS WHY HE WAS RIDING IN THOSE TRACTORS ELO THEY WERE KU STATE HOUSE INSTEAD OF AGRICULTURE MINISTRY.

ala mwandi Bible yali lemba kwena

  25. To think that the zambian vote was traded for a few tractors which are now at bwezani’s farm this is reminiscent of the slavery days were africans were traded for mirrors.

  26. This is beyond criminal behavior.Shame on the self righteous Fred Mmembe and minions.

    Zambian Airways deletes vital information

Zambian Airways has deleted its website leaving pre-paid clients with virtually no means of communicating to officials.

The Watchdog failed to get a comment from anyone at Zambian Airways because the known mobile phone numbers were not reachable.

Zambian Airways which is owned by, among others Post Newspaper owner Fred Mmembe, Task Force Prosecutor Mutembo Nchito and Seaboard suspended operations a in January, citing high operational costs triggered by high cost of jet fuel.

  27. 49. your flag Zambian

You make sure that you yourself is sensible enough to understand jamaco!! While you guys hate , the guy is cool!!

Just do your thing and move one!! Stop judging people on the Blog.

Make your point to the Topic at hand and move on quietly!!

In the end it is you uwapena.

Jamaco’s Comments have brilliance in themselves!! You only have a problem with your little mind to understand the Chap.

    I have been watchinh him!!

    He is cool.

He gets all this time to write coz the guy earns his money on the Computer while you clean streets in Germany.

  28. Bloggers, spend time to understand issues. Chairmanship of AU is a rotational one conferred on a country through a vote by Heads of States during the AU meeting just like the chairmanship of SADC was conferred on Zambia by SADC Heads of States and the late RPM became chairman.

The last Chairman was the President of Tanzania. That doesn’t mean he was President of Africa. Col. Gadaffi was voted as chairman of AU and not your president. He will there for one year for administrative purposes and carry out the mandate of AU. Get it right.

  29. I REPEAT!
Africa is not ready for any integration….not in 20 years either.
Dont forget, the idea of European Union started in the 1960s…those that understand History will testify…it is not easy, until economies reach similar levels!

  30. Col Gadaff. At last he got it.
Thats what he wanted. But a keen eye should be kept on him.
A chairman is not just a listener in the meeting. He is the driver of the meeting. All drivers have got one thing in common. They drive in the direction, at their own speed,at their own time and they dont drive to by pass their destination. They have also the tendency of breaking traffic rules. Is Gadaffi a good driver? Lets all get in the car and see.
    The Chinda-Law Firm.
    Upcoming President

  31. Are we also going to see the return of bottled fresh milk and milk biscuit with a punch in the middle?

Abakale na mano ya kale…Katwish mwandi

  32. Congrats Gadaffi. Please do something on Zim,these pipo are suffering here as if they are not educated kwena. :-j:-j:-j

  33. # 48. Zambia Prophet, you are right. There will soon come a time of calm and posperity and when the world shall say “peace peace” then shall the end come. See how Obama is soothing the Arabs. There will soon be peace….we can only not tell but it could be sooner than we expect.

The measage then is “fear God and give Him glory, for the hour of his judgement is come”

  34. Iyee mayooo.i cant believe our leaders cant see this for what it is, a fat recipe for disaster!!!US of Africa?this is taking retrogressive steps into the ages of slavery. I dont trust muslims…the next thing they’ll be going for our asses jihad style..we are too different to ever live with these ppl as one entity.and please dont give me that bullcrap about laying the past to rest!!their extremism gives me the creeps..christianity has extremist but at least they respect ppl right to life.we’ll be the laughing stock of the whole world..as if we dont have enough of that already.ma politicians plis stop kissing gaddafi’s ass.we fought too hard for independence to lose it like this..

  35. Students of prophesy can now open their eyes and lift up their heads because redemption is near. The beginning of the mark of the beast (the enforcing of national sunday law) where people will be forced to have one gov’t, law, and church. A black person will be very popular and everyone will obey what s/he says.

  36. In 1890 Cecil Rhodes stated he would start a movement that would in 100 years bring
in a world government in which there would be no war and only voice. One undred years later in 1990, President Bush(Sr) announced the arrival of the New World Order.

  37. The former secretary of State, Zbigniew Brzezinski said in his book, that the road to One World Government is through “Regionization”(Regionalism). The African Union, the Asian Union, the Mediterean Union, the North American Union and the EU.

  38. In January 1991 the first President Bush told Americans in an Oval Office address that the collapse of Soviet communism presented an opportunity “to forge for ourselves and for future generations a new world order; a world where the rule of law, not the rule of the jungle, governs the conduct of nations”.

  39. Henry Kissinger said the International Herald Tribune on 12/01/2009.

The nadir of the existing international financial system coincides with simultaneous political crises around the globe. Never have so many transformations occurred at the same time in so many different parts of the world and been made globally accessible via instantaneous communication. The alternative to a new international order is chaos

  40. Zambian False prophet

Don’t be silly just because your ignorance of the bible you think the king of the south is Ghaddafi. The bible in the book of kings already indetifies the Kingdom of the south as the Kingomd of Judah. But your dumb self thinks the south is elsewhere other than Israel[-(

The King of the south is not Ghaddafi, read the book of kings to see the separaion of the northern and Southern Kingdoms you liar

  41. #69. Shalapungu Banton

Where are those verses so I can read. I am scared of the events that are taking place. I am scared of Muslims. I don’t trust them at all and I do not want Sharia Law enforced on Zambia. I want women to have rights and I want people to have a fair trial and I also want freedom of religion and democratic elections all of which Islam denies. I am scared of the Muslim world.

Please, if this US of Africa is to take place, first fix the problems in Africa starting with Zimbabwe, DRC, Sudan, etc and then consult your people through a referendum that’s when we can talk of this US of Africa of which democratic elections are to be held. [tbc

  42. cont from #70.]

I am scared because Ghadaffi does not know about democratic elections. He has never held an election in his country ever since he took over power.

    Lord SAVE US!!!! [-o<[-o<

  43. #55 Daniel. The point is the way this Gadaffi is pushing the issue of the US of Africa. He supports undemocratic elements such as Mugabe, Museveni and Biya and has disdain for the properly elected leaders.

  44. Free market Capitalist no need to fear Zambian false prophets geographically challnged unbiblical prophecy. The AU chairmanship is only One year and there is no damn way Libyan can attack israel in that one yera because Israel has got one of the best armies in the world. The end time prophecy are geographically linked to Israel and israel only.

The kingdom of Israel was divided in the first book of Kings chpater 11 through to 12. The kingdom was divided into Israel’ northern Kingdom and Judah’the southern Kingdom’. the northen kingdom was detsroyed by the assyrians and the southern by babylonians. But as of today i know the Southern Kingdom exists in that same location but the northe

  45. First of all people, when did arabs start claiming to Africans. Geographically some are like North Africans but you will never hear them say they are Africans unless they need something or help from Black Africans. Even Black people in their own countries are not treated as human beings, they are third class citizens. Black people in sudan are being killed because they are blacks and are non-muslims. Why can’t our leaders read between the lines, does it mean whoever smiles with you becomes a friend. Mwanawasa had principles he recalled Derrick Chintala over the same issue from Libya as Ambassador. We need leaders who can be objective when it comes to interest of the nation like Mwan

  46. Anyway, I do not this can be acceptable to Ian Khama the president of Botswana who is the most objective in SADC like late Mwanawasa who was not easily bought. As Black Africans we do not need the descrimination anymore, we had it its enough, we need dignity now.

  47. 77. Anonymous,

So Mwanawasa has become your hero in his Grave when you cursed and insulted him 24/7 during his tenure? What a hype by hypocrites.Alo to correct the uninformed lot here Mwanawasa like RB did not oppose the African Unity Government but requested for a gradual integration accelerating regional integration them move at continental level through economies first end with politics. That is the same position Zambia’s consecutive administrations as RB,SA,Angola,Tanzania,Uganda,Nigeria,Mozambique,Namibia,Kenya,Senegal,Malawi,Botswana,Lesotho and Swaziland have taken.

  48. The man is an egocentric dictator but the only”north african” keen on the position. Were the h*** did he find those African kings

  49. “Africa is our own Mother Land, fashioned with and blessed by God’s good hand, let all our people join as one, brothers under the sun, all one, strong and free…….”

    One Africa One Nation

  50. A meeting of more than 200 African kings and traditional rulers has bestowed the title “king of kings” on Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi.

The rulers, wearing gold crowns, sequined capes and colourful robes met in the Libyan town of Benghazi in what was billed as a first of its kind.

This is way too close to 666. Time to reckon!

  51. Gaddafi should also be subjected to democratic elections in Libya.United states of Africa when Mugabe is failing to appoint a cabinent, turmoil in CONGO,SOMALIA,GUINEA KONAKRY,ETHOPIA.

  52. Relax everyone for the good Lord God, our Creator, is in full control. Personally I understand that Col. Gaddafi is far from being the King of the South. His position simply doesn’t fit in with BIBLE PROPHECY.

Also, how can you compared a non-prophetic Holy Bible book of Kings to a Prophetic one of Daniel? Please, the Holy Scriptures are divided up into prophetic books, Gospels, history, etc. So, stop confusing yourself and focus your attention on praying to the good Lord God for help in the coming troubles which good enough, by God’s grace, will not last a long time (see Matthew 24, KJV Holy Bible).

  53. Shalapungu Banton

    Welcome back, I missed you.
The King of the South shall not make war on Israel in a year. You are right. However, the King of the South shall link up all other such gullible nations in Cush (Africa). Can you explain who Cush or Ethipia refers to in Ezekiel? Just do a research on these two names, ‘Ethiopia’ and ‘Cush’. Who do they refer to? You will discover that ‘Ethiopia’ or ‘Cush’ are referencing the same identity. If the two are to be incorporated, will it not be through the AU or USAF? How else?

  54. Shalapungu Banton

Refer to Ezekiel 38:40-42 The king of the South is interested in power, and wealth.

So, watch out for your gold and silver (copper).
