Delayed salaries contribute to corruption, Police official

Share

Katete District Police Commanding Officer, Notosi Chikatula says delayed salaries and absence of extra duty allowances for civil servants are major factors leading to increased cases of corruption in districts. Speaking during an Anti-Corruption Commission, ACC, sensitization meeting with government and non governmental organizations’ heads of departments in Katete yesterday, Mr. Chikatula said public officers in rural districts are tempted to engage in corrupt  practices because public resources are unevenly distributed. He said government resources are concentrated departmental at head offices and that resources allocated for far flung districts reached the provincial and district offices late and sometimes it does not reach the districts. He called on government to intervene n order to ensure transparency in the distribution of funds so that officers receive what is due to them on time. He, however, urged police officers to remain focused and resist corruption despite the financial hardships. And ACC director General, Nixon Banda, advised  the police officers and other civil servants to join the commission in fighting corruption regardless of their situation to promote transparent distribution of resources.

  1. What is this policeman talking about when we are told by Nixon Banda that Katete is corruption free?

  2. It is saddening to hear of one a Director for that matter saying Katete is free of corruption when the man incharge of Police in Katete is saying they are forced to do that, because of late deliverying of the salaries. Can Banda tell the truth or we are being told what he is dreaming as a director. Concluding before you research does not and will not give us intended results. Stop thinking like you know everything Mr. Banda. You are a director who should demonstrate a high calibre of thinking and not assumptions.
Hopefully you will follow the laid down procedures next time you visit a rural place/any place before you talk to the press. Talk to the people on the ground before you come up with something to say. Lies do not pay. YOU LIED.
