TUESDAY ZAMBIAN FOOTBALL BRIEF

Share

Midfielder Andrew Sinkala is keeping the Zambia national team bench
guessing as to whether he will be available for this Saturday’s 2008
Africa Cup Group 11 qualifying tie against Chad at Konkola stadium in
Chililabombwe.

Zambia coach Patrick Phiri today could not definitely say whether the
recalled midfielder from 2.Bundesliga club Paderborn will accept his
recall.

“We are still trying to locate him and Faz is doing its best to get in
touch with him,” Phiri said.

Team manager Solly Pando too could not give a clear answer as to
whether Sinkala would join the team following his recall last Friday.

Sinkala was recalled for the first time since last October when Zambia
lost 1-0 at home against South Africa in another Group 11qualifier
played in Lusaka.

He was brought in to help strengthen Zambia’s midfield that failed to
spark despite the team beating Congo-Brazzaville 3-0 in Chililabombwe
on June 2.

Pando however, disclosed that Portsmouth striker Collins Mbesuma will
join the team on Thursday in Chililabombwe from his England base.

In the midst of the two no-shows, French-based striker Jacob Mulenga
is in camp after he was given a week off to attend to a family
commitment in Kitwe.

The squad shifts camp to Chililabombwe tomorrow on the same day Chad
are due to arrive in the country via Lusaka on board an Ethiopian
Airlines flight before midday.

Chad are later expected to connect to the Copperbelt via road where
they will be camped in Chingola.

  1. Well, players need to be given enough time. You can’t just call someone on Friday and expect him to be available on Monday. What if he has serious engangements. Lets do better ba Patrick. But anyway. I wish the National Team success during the game on Satarday. Viva Chipolopolo. 2 – 0

  2. ‘Na ameka mulekeni fye’ and let him be replaced by Ian Bakala or Misheck Lungu in my opinion these two are better midfielders than Andrew Sinkala. We won’t have Mark Sinyangwe and Elijah Tana we need cable players to fill those positions and I feel our striking force needs to be strengthen up by someone’s of Chaswe Nsofwa’s caliber. Why even panic when we have a lot of players that can be available in time. Its so surprising to see this guy behaving likes this because when he is not called you’ll hear em complain but when they are called ‘awe ala bwafya’. Not so long ago he was one of the players that was saying I’m ready to play for Zambia at any time. Ba Phiri and FAZ before we play South Africa in September, please lineup friendlies with notable teams from the North and West Africa, twapapata!

  3. #2 Exactly mundala walasa! Ian Bakala, Misheck Lungu or Issac Chansa can do a better job than Andrew Sinkala. Its a pity though we’ll be without talented Elijah Tana and Mark Sinyangwe in defence but anyway if coach Phiri can bring in Misheck Lungu in defence and either Issac Chansa or Ian Bakala in the midfield I foresee improvements. And then the striking force its true it needs to be boosted though I know a lot of you would say we have a lot of strikers already in the team. Lately we have seen Collins Mbesuma creating or rather providing goals but what Zambia needs he a goal getter in the likes of Chaswe Nsofwa being supported by Chris Katongo and forcing the defenders to be uneasy will be either Jacob Mulenga or Songwe Chalwe with bags of tricks. Remember South Africa will be very happy with a draw in Congo. So need to wake up from a deep sleep and score a lot of goals on Saturday.

  4. correction Mbesuma is not a portsmouth player anymore.he plays for maritimo in portugal.he couldnt tik in the english premier league.all the best zambia.we are behind you!

  5. Which players are in camp? Has Collins reported yet or is he still ‘collecting’ his family from Portugal

  6. Is Mbesuma back at Pompey? Has Maritimo failed to buy outrightly? Someone with info on the same to help. I thought the Germany Soccer season ended some 3 or so weeks ago and i can only wonder what the former Nchanga Rangers player is doing, Andrew where ever you are thlnk of how important it is for ZED to make it ACN 08 and we need your help.

  7. I agree with Musonda Mofu#1. Andrew should have been informed earlier. You dont treat players like that they also have commitments to attend to, be it family or club. The notice is just too short. Do not demonise the player if he comes 2 or a day before the match.

  8. #2 and #3 you need to reason well. Andrew has always been available to the national tean since he sorted out that issue with FAZ. Mwaamba ukuponta apapene mwebantu. Tamutasha. Ku last Africa cup he was there. Has he told you that he is not coming. How about if there lack of communication with the guy. Me I blame FAZ and the coaching staff. You cant just be using players like chakufwala. After using it you damp it. When evr you want to wear it you just pick it. You are dealing with a human being with feeling. Mbesuma come two days befor the match, ninani ulanda. Mulekenifye umwaiche.

  9. I think there is too much unprofessionalism in our football. How else do you explain this kind of doing things.

Honestly how can you inform a play 5 days before an important match? Faz, you suck.

And all of you on this blog who are already demonising Sinkala, what is your basis of irresponsible and senseless statements. ahave you been in touch with and he confirmed that he wont come.

You stereotyped individuals are good for nothing where our football is concerned and if you do not anything better to do, go fishing.

Faz needs to have a professional person dealing with players. Not this practice of just hiring and firing of players at will without adequate explanations. For example why is Isaac Chansa not in the team when he is the best midfield alive in Zambia at the moment? “Its not important to explain he just a player, he does not need to know” Faz woyl say.

Look there is a difference between soccer and military management. Orders work in military but not in soccer

  11. Zambian soccer professionals are not just patriotic to duties of National importance. How else can Sinkala explain his absence when the German league has been on recess for the last three weeks. I urge our boys to take a leaf from established players like Mahamodou Diarra who has snubbed an opportunity to help Real Madrid win the league by opting to play for Mali. This is the same case with Eto’o at Barca. How many of our so called professionals can do this? Blackburn Rovers could not sign our own Sichone since he has not played a good number of games for our National side!!

  12. Ba Lawre, Upuba bubi. Bushe imwe uko mwaba ku Sweden kuti mwaishiba shani at abafwashi benu ku zambia nabafwa ngatapali abamwebele.

Do rush to the patriotsim issue Diarra was informed in time that he would in the team and had the chance to arrange his things with Real Madrid.

Lets be objective when we are criticising others. It does augur well to just splash ill-meaning condemnation.

For more information read daily mail online. Otherwise ubupuba bubi

  13. Ba Lawrie, Ngataukwete ifya kulemba pa blog kwikalafye. How about if Andrew is not in the country? Maybe he is on holiday overseas. We know Germany league ended. But have they contacted him personally. You cant call somebody through the media. The media can write anything. Point ndelanda yakwebati Ba FAZ na Coaching staff are to blame and not the player. Why didnt they inform him just after the Congo Match since they saw the loop holes in the midfield. Even so they are supposed to speak to the player himself directly and find out not ukumfwafye munyunshi. Nga chali ninebo Andrew naine tetinjishibe ifilechitika. Another thing is Isaac. This boy is hot and I dont understand why Ba Phiri does not utilise this guy. I know ali pa suspension. But in the last three to four game he played for Pirates after lifting his suspension, he is been fantastic.

  15. Ba Lawre

I just dismissed your insinuations with contempt they surely deserved. I did not insult you. I did not say ulichipuba. I said Ubupuba bubi.

If that hurt, then no hard feelings. Fisanga abaume. I am sorry but I NEVER MEANT TO ABUSE YOU AS A PERSON.

  16. Shhh, Gentlemen the chances of Zambia appearing on CAN 2008 are very slim, why the seriuosness now? Lets start building a team for 2010 world cup. These pros u talking about failed us, Andrew and Moze failed us when we lost to South Africa 0 – 1 at Independence Stadium, that was the time to be serious. Now it is spilled milk RSA will not let us beat them at their home soil IMPOSSIBLE! it is lost. Remember we lost 3 – 0 at FNB STADIUM in Johanesburg despite air lifting Elijah Litana from the Middle East, we were only a game away from the World Cup 1998 in France. Remember. FAZ when will you learn when?

Anyway sometimes miracles are possible. But why should we always expect a miracle. it doesn’t make sense.

  17. Anonymous try to be serious the deciding time is when all games are played and see who is on top. Zambia has chances too to qualify bearing in mind that SA is playing Congo on Saturday too who have not give up. Congo beat SA at home 2-0. So they will win this game too. Zambia should beat chad by 6-0 because this what counts. We support the boys despite FAZ not doing much. Look anonymus a game of soccer is always a probability. you either win, lose or draw. The problem have with Zambia who are making the features is that Zambia has never played its last game home. It reminds of the 1986 WC after havin leading the group from the last first we lost to Morroco 0-1 away. Why. Zedians have you sensed this!!!!! Why two home games and the last one away. Sinister isnt?

  18. Mr. Isaac Congo did not beat SA 2-0, the game was a draw 0-0, anyway I do not where you get your results from, never the less those who are saying Moses and Sinkala failde us are wrong. What was wrong was the timing of recalling Sichone to our squad, he should have been recalled for the match in Chad cause we all knew it would be an easy game, reacalling him for the SA game was some sort panic and was an insualt to the that beat Chad. Some players I am sure felt bad. You win a game and the next game reinforcements are brought in, the players who played in Chad felt undermind. 2. Sichone was given the armband as well, thus demonting Katongo (who had been patriotic) bad timing by my beloved coach and his advises, another problem. In my opinion there were a lot of problems and confusion during that period and that is why we lost. That aside I am of the view that since we play friendly games in Europe continued…

  19. Mistake my point is we should start playing friendly games in Europe since most of our top players are that end and still heading that end. Mbesuma, Katongo, Sinkala, Sichone, Mulenga, Fwayo Tembo, Edwin Phiri (Tana is not far) Isaac will soon be in Sweden, Nketani may go to Turkey and who knows maybe Seb. Mwansa GBFC, C. Mulenga (SA) could be on their way. It will be cheaper for FAZ I think to organise a game in Europe when we have more of players here. I really hope ati ba U/20 & 23 abi che ba bi kemo effort pantu ine emo nshitile ama tako yandi kwena bane. Bati these kids need guidance that is what is an island in FAZ. Pantu ba FAZ nabo sometimes you can not understand them. I mean if they the under20 can beat Ivory Coast, it is a sign of talent. With proper strategies we would have won the African Nations Cup before no bambi twala kota no ku kota

  20. Ba Mwape pa Jozi pali laka. Bafana Bafana have been informed that they will play Congo at an artficial turf (synthetic grass) in Pont Noire. So nabasakamana baadi. The game was was supposed to have been played at the giant Dedat Massamba stadium in Brazzaville. They are also worried about the treatment they will receive in Congo. All theses are working to Chipolopolo’s adavantage especially if Bafana loses in Congo. I am not wishing Bafana bad luck. But we are rivals and thats what life’s is. I want Zambia to go to Ghana next year.

  22. I think ba Jack Kafusha (Umu Dane) and Billy-SA
(Shosholoza)are doing a good job on this site. their contributions are world class and lets give credit where it is due.

We shall welcome dissenting views for as long as they make sense and are within the contest. Jack your analysis on Sichone and Sinkala makes sense. I said it and I will repeat it here “Footballers are people with human feelings like all humans and they should be treated as such”.

Otherwise gentlemen keep it up. Billy, I am coming to Pretoria next week on wednesday to watch Barcelona FC against Sundowns.
