Share

The Zambia national team today gathered in Lusaka today ahead of the squads departure for South Africa tomorrow where they will face Mozambique in the semifinals of this years Cosafa Castle cup to be played in Pretoria on Saturday.

All but two players of the local players or foreign based call-ups already in Zambia were in camp by 18:00, Wednesday evening.

Missing was Malaysian based striker Philemon Chipeta and Felix Nsunzu.

“Chipeta is still missing and we haven’t heard anything from him but he should join us later tonight,” Stand-in Zambia coach Fighton Simukonda said after this afternoons training session with the team.

He said there was no word on when Nsunzu would arrive after his passport was withheld by his agent in Tunisia where he was attending trials.

The Konkola Blades striker however, has retrieved his passport and is due to join the team by Friday in Johannesburg.

Meanwhile, Zambia will tonight be guests of Chrismar Hotel who will host the team in a farewell dinner ahead of their departure Thursday morning.

Zambia leave for South Africa at 07:55 where they will be joined by five other foreign based players who play in that country after they complete they club cup commitments before Friday.

  1. Please work and and defend COSAFA CUP. it will be fun to meet South Africa in the final so that we can prove to them the 3-1 ealry this month was not fluke.Fighton no excuse we have a lot of talented players you can make a formidable team. COSAFA IN 1997 produced a star in the name of Nelson Banda. I have a confidence that we can have another star born out of COSAFA. We have laways played in the semis and finals of this cup since its inception.GO ZAMBIA!

  2. #4, Nelson Banda played for the lengendary Mighty Mufulira Wanderers as a Midfielder. He was in the team that beat malawi 4-0 in 1997 COSAFA qualifier match at Independence Stadium. He scored in that match.
He was an average player but caused alot of excitement because of his dreadlocks. He was also fond of fast and short passes in the midfield. He was nicknamed “haile” because of that. If my memory serves me right, he never played what we usually call professional football. I hope that answers your question.

  3. PSL, Bafana deal – but Perreira ‘not happy’

    September 26 2007 at 07:22PM

Bafana Bafana will continue with their participation in the Cosafa Cup semifinal against Botswana at Super Stadium on Saturday after an uneasy compromise deal over fixtures doused the dispute between the PSL and Safa that was threatening to split South African soccer down the middle.

But in making the announcement, Bafana general manager Sipho Nkumane revealed that coach Carlos Albert Parreira, who threatened to pull out of the fixture altogether if the matter was not resolved, was “not at all happy” about having to make do without five of his selected players instead of what was initially 11.

“But in the circumstances,” added Nkumane, “we had to give and take a little in order to avoid a crisis that was mushrooming out-of-hand.”

The compromise, which was negotiated between Safa CEO Raymond Hack and PSL Chief Operations Officer Professor Ronnie Schloss, has resulted in the postponement of Friday’s Telkom Knockout game between Ajax Cape Town and Free State Stars to next Thursday – thereby freeing three of the Cape Town club’s players to join the Bafana squad.

Bloemfontein Celtic have also agreed to release Tumelo Nhlapo and Lebohang Mothibantwa, with the players rejoining their club after Saturday’s Cosafa clash to possibly play a second game in two days for their club on Sunday.

But Safa’s main bone of contention has not been removed – with the Telkom Knockout crowd-puller between Kaizer Chiefs and Moroka Swallows still to be played figuratively a veritable stone’s throw from the Super Stadium at Loftus little more than an hour after Bafana’s Cosafa Cup international.

And, what is more, Chiefs players Itumeleng Khune, Jimmy Tau, Mokete Tsotetsi and Siphiwe Tshabalala and Swallows’ Bevan Fransman that Parreira named in his squad for the Botswana game will still not be released by their clubs for international duty. – Sapa

  4. Welcome to African Football coach Perreira. You just need to adapt to it and change your strategies, otherwise you will be frustrated soon.

  5. The Felix Sunzu case. I mean honestly is he so desperate to play prof. football, just how in the world could he get an ***** from Ivory Coast as his agent. It is being foolish, the young man must wait for he has all the time

  6. Justice K.i agree with you the boys shouldnt just rush for anything that comes their way.I remember the Dennis Lota saga which had to go Fifa. The guy signed a contract with 2 different Clubs one was Grasshoppers or Sion from Switzerland the other team i can’t remember thats how the guy ended at Orlado Pirates cos two teams where fighting for him.He had to stay like 4 months without kicking a ball whiles the case was being sorted out.
I thought the guys at Konkola Blades had learnt a lesson over D.Lota cos the Secretary of the club then signed these contracts with Lota.Talk about bogus Agents and what guys were saying the other day on the blog that some of our boys lack people who can advise them. They don’t know how to adapt in an enviroment thats totally different from home. When i watched I.Chansa /A.Sinkala midfield out play the Steven Pineaar/D.Buckley midfield i said to myself Isaac deserves to play for the same clubs the other guys are playing for.Anyway it’s just a matter of time

  7. Sibs mwana I think prof. football is all about Mafiaso. James Hadely Chase style. Zambian players heading for trials need some office that can feed them with infomation
