Agriculture, hard work key to poverty eradication – Dr. Mwanawasa

Share

Go to fullsize imagePresident Levy Mwanawasa says hunger and poverty can be eradicated through agriculture and hard work.

President Mwanawasa says agricultural production would increase food security in the country and for this reason government will continue to subside farm inputs by at least 50 percent.

The president said this yesterday in a speech read on his behalf by Lusaka Province
Deputy Minister Charles Shawa during the Dantho traditional ceremony of the Chikunda
people of Chief Mpuka in Luangwa district.

He said government has already purchased fertilizer for this coming rain season and
will soon start distributing seed and other farming inputs.

Dr. Mwanawasa has also directed the Zambia Wildlife Authority (ZAWA) to scale up
their services and protect people’s lives and crops in Luangwa district while
conserving wildlife for tourism purposes.

President Mwanawasa also assured the people of Luangwa that government will ensure
that basic needs of children and youths such as shelter, education and health are
provided in Luangwa.

And Chief Mpuka in a speech read on his behalf by Nsenga -Luzi Chikunda Cultural
Association Chairperson Thompson Lungu commended government for help rendered to
flood victims early this year.

Chief Mpuka said government provided help to all the affected people in the district
by giving them tents, food and rehabilitating damaged infrastructure in the area.

However, Chief Mpuka appealed government to tar the D145 road and connect the
district to a sustainable source of electricity power supply to attract investors.

Dantho ceremony is celebrated in remembrance of the ancestors of the Chikunda
Kingdom and is an occasion to offer prayers to God for good rains and harvest.

The Chief received various gifts and in attendant was Chief Chapoto of Zimbabwe,
chiefs Mpasha, Bunda Bunda, Chieftainess Shikabeta and  Senior Chief tainess
Nkomesha Mukamabo 11 of the Soil people.

  1. Make college savings work harder. Reding suggests that the couple open 529 plans and put new savings there. The money will grow tax deferred, and the Seims will get a state income tax deduction. To cover 75 percent of projected tuition costs, the Seims should ramp up their current rate of saving to $235 a month for Gabi and $289 a month for Gracie.

Don’t judge progress by looking at other people’s stuff. Just because a neighbor owns a vacation house or drives a Jaguar doesn’t mean he’s smarter with his money: He may be living scarily above his means. The Seims need to stick to their own plan and stop worrying about what everyone else is doing. Assuming they make the changes that Reding suggests – including increasing their retirement saving by 3 percent a year – he predicts that the couple’s net worth will hit the $1 million mark within a decade.

  5. Ba Joze(6),

Your Bemba or Zambian language like English is pathetic. You sound Katangise.Which Chiwala Secondary school did you attend as you have claimed here many times? Most of the Chiwala boys have made it in life because of their hard tested background out of Chiwala. The Majority are engineers, scientists, lawyers and influential politicians. Chiwala like Munali, Chipata’s Chizongwe, southern province’s Canisius Secondary School in Chisekesi town- Monze, Fatma Girls and Kabwe’s St Pauls have produced successful stories for the home and international market more than any other schools. But you Joze has exposed enough of your sad story. You could be one of those the school use to expel for, vundu, Dagga smocking and thuggerly some weeks before final form 5 exit exams due to your unpreparedness. Most of such lived in Zambezi and Luangwa hostels bordering Dickson Matutu’s Daggar farms.I was in Kafue hostels in the 80s.

  6. Kambwili stands up to Sata
Patriotic Front (PF) Roan Member of Parliament, Chishimba Kambwili, says he will not boycott the National Constitution Conference (NCC) as directed by party leader, Micheal Sata.

Mr. Kambwili said he is bound by the collective responsibility of Parliament to participate and insisted he would not disappoint his representatives.

He accused Mr. Sata of misdirected himself, when he ordered all PF MPs to boycott the NCC because the directive was not made in the interest of the electorates.

Mr. Kambwili said this, when he officially opened Calvary Baptist Church in Mpatamatu township in Luanshya.

He also appealed to the Oasis Forum to reconsider the stance taken to boycott the NCC.

    #7 Iwe Fact:
Who are you to question me on my citizenship? Why wima ibaka always when someone says the truth about Dr chuchu? Bushe iyi Doctorate Chuchu bamugiva nishi naiwe kwiyimya ifipeya and start walking like a crab thinking you are part of it te? Wangoo !!! ulefitapofwe kwati cimina cakoloboyi. Iwe Fact, kashi waledobola Dix, no wonder wayamba ukusata kwati mulwele wamutima nangula chipuz.I was at chiwala in 90s and I used to buys goats,oh wee I mean mpombo every month. You can ask you uncle Sugo who ran away my bucks or Pragmatist whom we chased as our teacher for he was proved to be an egoist. Iwe fact, ngacanjisamo ukulemba icisungu you can’t even match with me, may be Pragmatist can try after breaking ama devotions ku bakashi. Nomba Iwe Fact bushe fyambashi upepa? Limbi dix icili ileinduka te? Asoo iwe ilimbulwa mano atase mukwai!!! shaaa!!! wepumbafu wee kakuni, kalingongo mulala kwacenama.

  8. Ba Joze (11),
Now you have confirmed your fate at Chiwala. You left Chiwala in 90? Late that year I returned to Chiwala in 1990 for the Chiwala Old Boys Association which am a member to help the school in the aftermath of your riotous behavior when much damage was done to the school. The late Chileshe Mpandamabula was the head then before he headed to Munali and his Boarding Master was the current head Mutambo the Great Mathematician from UNZA. According to the tabled report in the AGM, you where under dagga and called yourselves the “A team Sugos 90” who went on a spree of terrorizing captains and teachers in their homes with your pangas in November after realizing potential to fail the finals.

It took us the old boys to bring life to that school following your destructions. We donated 1000 desks, lab science lab and TD classes’ technology with a lot of cash for development following sanctions from the Copperbelt Chief Education Officer then a Mr. Vukani Nyirenda in protest of your thuggerly.

  9. In that AGM where General Nobby Simbeye, General Christon Tembo, Brig. General Miyanda, Dr.LP Mwanawasa SC, George Mpombo, Dickson Matutu, current OOP Director General Phiri, the Colgate Palmolive marketing manager and myself beside many now senior citizens and business people in their capacity as old boys of Chiwala. Xavier Chungu was in attendance as then Ndola District Intelligence Officer considering that the multiparty wind was heavy.

So you see I’m showing you that this is your big brother from that school who knows so much about Chiwala. A lot of friends went to Mpelembe and Jesuit Fatherhood after Grade twelve before ZCCM sponsored them to the UK due to their excellent performance. We have engineers, physicians, Actualists, Financial planners and computer Doctors due to the strong Mathematical, science and technical background received from Chiwala. Mainly of whom are in SA, the EU and the USA. In the USA many are in Seattle Washington, Arizona, Connecticut Massachusetts, Texas and California. But reading your level of mind embarrasses me with much Grief. Chiwalans have been a successful story wherever they shown up but what is wrong with you? Very few have failed atleast from the 60s to mid 90s teams so I know with proof.

  10. Ba Fact, my late father once said “….if you think education is expensive…..do a costing on ignorance”!!
Not everyone who went to Harvard or Cambridge are successes so we should always expect a few exceptions!!

  11. Anyone with information on the composition of the new ERB and ZESCO boards? Can’t seem to find them in any of the dailies!

  12. #12 Fact
Iye pipo, bushe 1990s = 1990? Ala napapa ingulu nshimakumba na shimusonda shayikata Fact nomba nokumulenga ukusabaisala with the mouth full of impofu. Kalanda kasikolo wa Fact mwee.

Iwe Fact, what’s wrong with you? You’re naming cities like you have sent your siblings in those places to boast of. You can name all the careers’ disciplinary in the world and varsities that won’t change the fact that academia and talents have one mutual significant demeanour of having a better life of which many academician like you have found themselves on the other side of the wing and suffering from GREEN FEVER (how to get rich faster before you retire). I have friends who went to UNZA in the school of “chikwakwa”, (kwati niku wali), BENG, blarrrr are still on ZAMFOOT not even a Japanese car. My dear Fact business temutwe but fyaba mumulopa. Ask the Jews or Bill Gates they will tell you.

Fact, now everyone has known that Chiwala was destroyed by the PTA and those pipo you have mentioned who are failures in life. Surely, what could you get from Mpombo, Miyanda, Dr Chuchu, Phiri (anabwela) and the other fools you have mentioned? These chaps were just coming fot AGM for lunch only and they lacked foresight. Shame upon you; shemuna!!! In bemba they say “ukwenda noulwele panda; nobe kulwela panda” (literary translation: walking with someone suffering from diarrhoea can also make you suffer also) in other words folly was part of you.

  13. #13

I saw an article in daily mail yesterday on the new composition of the ERB and Zesco boards. I remember seeing Sikota Wina and Augustine Seyuba amongst others who I can’t remember now.

    I hope that helps.
