Share

Zambia completed their week-long training camp in Spain on Wednesday evening with a 11-1 win over a Jerez select-side.

Phiri said he was satisfied with Zambia’s emphatic win over a Jerez select-team on Wednesday evening.

“They did well against Jerez with no professionals and most of the players are from the Spanish lower league, he said.

“Jerez is a weaker team to Andalusia who have players like Antonio Reyes in the team.

Zambia secured their win over Jerez thanks to three braces from Dube Phiri, Jacob Mulenga and Rainford Kalaba.

James Chamanga, Emmanuel Mayuka, Felix Katongo, Ian Bakala, Adubelo Phiri and Clifford Mulenga all chipped in with a goal each.

And Zambia was expected to depart Spain at 07:30 Friday morning for Tunisia via France.

Phiri said the team will be joined in Paris by Turkish based striker Collins Mbesuma of Bursaspor en route to Tunisia was they will be camped until January 10.

Zambia will play Tunisia this Sunday in an international friendly before playing a local league team there on January 8.

Phiri said Zambia will depart Tunisia on January 10 for Morocco where they will face the Atlas Lions in another friendly match two days later.

The Zambia coach said Zambia will later leave Morocco on January 13 and fly directly to Ghana ahead of their opening Africa Cup finals Group C game against Sudan on January 22 in Kumasi.

Zambia will face four-time winners Cameroon and defending champions and record 5-time victors Egypt in their subsequent Group C matches on the 26th and 30th respectively

  1. do not get big headed it was a make shft select side coming from lower legues but atleast you showed prowess in front of goal.good work so far and plz be displined

  2. that training session just gave our strikers added confidence in front of goal.I’m sure Zambia will do well and at least reach the semi finals.Camping outside the country should bear fruit as we aim to beat Sudan & Egypt and draw with Cameroon!!i look forward to the next generation of Zambian players being showcased at the Africa Cup and the hopefully we could get some of our boys into quality teams abroad.

  3. Good result for confidence. It definately was a makeshift side from lower leagues but the quality of players from the same leagues may be superior to those of sudan players, atleast…

  4. there is no need for us to get big headed as my bro Jeff puts it,though i do believe that at least now…our strike force can see exactly which place to strike come Ghana 2008.

  5. The madalas were not defending thats why we beat them 11-1. It’s not something to talk about, that team is more less like Madalas at Chawama. How do you prepare CAN 2008 by playing with Madalas. You need to get serious I cant congratulate a Graduate who passes grade 4 test! Watch out Sudan is coming.

  6. I really do not see the logic of going to Spain to go and play the equivalent of Kalomo select side. Why not arrange friendly matches with teams one can talk about? Bazafyanta come CAN 2008!

  7. The exposure of our national soccer team to europe will definately have a positive on their perfomance in areas of boosting confidence and belief in themselves to do better.

  8. It is a good result and I only hope the boys are going to same courage of scoring that number of goals in Ghana. It doesn’t matter if the Jerez select-side was a weaker one or not, if they failed to score goals against that team then I was going to be worried. Just work hard Chipoloplo.

  9. #5 & #6 just be grateful our strikers even knew where the goal was !!Zambian strikers are rather goal shy so a bagful of goals is a positive development!!! at least the team has acclimatized as opposed to flying straight from Lusaka to the tourney.

  10. The results were good for the chipolopolo boys and they deserve their good outcome. Regardless of what, everything with the preparations we tell in Ghana during the African cup. This is a start because its gives the players time to get used to each other and also gives the team the chemistry, which is very important anyway going into the ACN. However, it is very hard to predict with these friendies but at least the nation of Zambia have made an effort to sent them boys to Europe to train. Cool

  11. This is a good outcome on the chipolopolo boys, because they needed a win like this and people should remember that these friendlies are hard to predict what you are going to be facing. However, its a good start and expecially that Coach Phiri took advantage of the Spainish Raze Jerez select team and used some of his new players. Zambia is on a good path right now because they are trying their best to live up to their expectations. They we do well as long the players stay humble and work as one

  12. The boys can hummer any team by 11-1. Even Sundan will be bathed in sand even if Zambia will miss services of Chris and Chansa. Abaiche balishiba bola jealous down. Ba Patrick don’t listen too much from amakula, just keep on enjoying talents of those boys and let them have good time..

  13. Some people are so negative, when we lost 4-1 they complained ,we beat a local select(though much weaker) you still complain. What more do want? These were just training matches we can’t read much from both games. This trip to Spain i believe was good for the boys.Angola lost 2-0 to some select team and that doesn’t make them a bad side overnight and it doesn’t mean the won’t do well at Afcon.I am not saying we shouldn’t critise the team, when they don’t do well but let’s be positive & Optimistic.

  14. It is better to play a weaker Spain select side than not to have one. It can make a difference no matter how small it can be. It is better to remain positive as Sibs put it.

  15. after all, guys its all about giving the coach to assess the team and what strengths his players have, and which ones combine better. Sfter all is said and done, its down to how our players perform and not what the opponents do. If we defend well, and prevent the other team from scoring, and our front-players score once, we have still won the game. It will all be about how well our players jell, and their self-believe, so if this ka jerez ganme gives them a morale booster, let them be.

  16. there is nothing more deadly than a person who has genuine belief in his cause. thats what our players ought to do. Look at what the iraqi team did in the asian cup. they were a nobody team. look at greece a few years ago in the euro cup. We just need to win our first game to get the momentum we need to win the second match.lets no overlook the pwer of the human spirit guided by the Almighty.Go Zambia!!!!!!!!!!!

  17. Well, this sounds like a morale booster but i think the best results to show a good reflection of our preps will only show when we play Tunisia and Morrocco.
    Anyhow, good luck guys!

  18. thats a great result you should display on the nations cup. pity our players are not in the big european teams.

  19. 21. Dear optimists, the Spanish Football League system consists of the following divisions:

    1. The Primera division(also known as “La Liga”)
    2. The Segunda division
    3. The Segunda division B
    4. The Tercera division
    5. The Divisiones Regionales
1 & 2 are the professional league. 3 & 4 are not. Jerez Club de Fútbol plays in the Tercera División, i.e., in Division 4. Jerez’s footballling history is as follows:

  23. They have played 7 seasons in the Segunda Division B, and 15 seasons in the Tercera Division. The highest division they have ever ascended to is the Segunda Division B, and the last time they played in that division was in the 2004/2005 season when they were placed 19th They were then relegated to the Tercera Division, and they have stayed there ever since. I stand to be corrected, but from what I know they have never played in the professional league.

  24. So dear optimists, an 11-1 win over a team ranked the same as our Kanakantapa Swallows adds nothing to our prospects at the 2008 ACN. I only hope the optimists will not blow themselves up like that luanshya man when reality dawns(which is pretty soon, by the way).
Good luck 2 y’all optimists, coz u need it, ha!

  25. I must say i am impressed with the commitment from FAZ this time round. At least our boys are camping elsewhere and having the necessary preparatory matches be it lower ranked teams or whatever the case may be. The bottom line is training is training, the more of it the better the coaching staff will be able to see the weaknesses and strengths of the boys. Also it will give the lads the necessary time to gel together as a team which is paramount before going into any tournament.
