Mulongoti clarifies delayed delivery of maize exports to Zimbabwe

Share

The Zambian government has clarified that delays to deliver the maize purchased by Zimbabwe has been caused by logistical challenges.

Chief Government Spokesperson Michael Mulongoti says fumigation of maize and the Banking payments are some of the logistical challenges that are delaying the Zambian government from delivering maize to Zimbabwe.

Mr. Mulongoti was responding to Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe who yesterday at a campaign rally expressed concern about delays by the Zambian government in delivering the commodity to that country.

Mr. Mulongoti, who is also Information and Broadcasting Services Minister, told ZANIS in an interview in Lusaka today that government was actively looking into the matter.

He said the Zambian government would remain committed to meeting its contractual obligations with other countries.

Yesterday at a campaign rally, President Mugabe expressed concern about delays by the Zambian government to export maize to that country.

Mr. Mugabe told about 8,000 party supporters during a campaign rally in Mahusekwa, a rural settlement about 70 kilometres South of the Capital Harare that the country was in dire need of maize as the country was faced with an emergency of food crisis.

The Zimbabwean Leader stated that his government has sought permission from the Zambian government to send people to load the maize into trucks because of the delays by the Zambian government in exporting the commodity to that country.

He said his government has already paid for 150, 000 metric tonnes of maize to the Zambian government.

  1. There is no sense in what Mulongoti is saying. This govt of thieves and crooks are not able to speak in the language people can understand. What does he mean by “banking payments?” Mugabe must be given his maize or else he will continue exposing the incompetency of our govt.

  2. Mr Mulongoti must keep it simple when he speaks. This riddle he has used “banking payment” is not a common one.
Why cant politicians just be plain. Why not say something like,
We are waiting for the cheque to clear, or the roads are poor, hence our trucks are moving at a snails pace.
But the man decides to fumigate our eyes with his smoke infested gas…..

  3. Even the fumigation of maize is another lame excuse. If you are selling stuff you make it ready for delivery. Its time to learn and use the rules of commerce fairly. Indeed if Mugabe has paid for the maize give it to him. Otherwise you are using his money illegally while he hasn’t got his goods. Zimbabweans are starving at present and we should not compound their suffering. Come on Zambian government you wouldn’t want the same thing done to you by your neighbours?

  4. How did the government sudenly think they have the capacity to collect and deliver 150, 000 metric tonnes to Zimbabwe when they have in immediate past to collect grains in the rural areas.

No wonder Zimbabwe has sent trucks to collect whats due to it. I hope the Government will now be able to go to rural area and collect grains. Is the Government going to refund the ZIM Government money for the transportation of grain?

  5. Why did they give Mulongoti to deliver the statement? Some things are better explained by the people who are implementing them. Food Reserve Agency is being managed by very highly educated Zambians who could have explained clearly and logically what is happening, as long as the government clears the statement. After all, we didn’t have to respond to Mugabe immediately. Mulongoti’s poor incoherent mumbo-jumbo has just supported Mugabe’s claims about how ineptitude within the Zambian govt system has showed itself in the delayed delivery of the Zim order. We can’t even articulate an excuse!!! What a shambles!! Maybe Mulongoti should have explained in a local language!!

  6. These MFs are quick to address issues related to foreigners but they cannot address why the FRA has still has not paid farmers for the last crop season..Ladies and Gentlemen, I have come to the conclusion that we are led by a highly incompetent government that has made mediocrity a part of their doing business. How did dull people like this take over the running of the country is what I would like to know..

  7. An apology and assurance would have been appropriate if that is what is going on. Zim might have even paid for overnight shipping but are left to wonder what the Heck Zed is doing

I think the public opinion for this govt. is near 0%

  8. If a 15 year old kid can deliver what I buy on ebay in time, then you old men should be ashamed of making deals you cannot fulfill.

IT IS AS SIMPLE AS 1 2 3!

  9. What a shame Zambia, what a shame!!!! And these are the calibre of leaders that are representing us on the international scene???? Come on now, something needs to be done urgently.

  10. Guys…good news. The South African gov’t has put its land reform program in full throttle. They [;an by 2012 to have 30% of the land transfered to African monkeys who cant farm (much like Zimbabwe) except this will be done in a more civil manner. This will mean more foreign investment in the field of agriculture in the countries Zambia, Malawi and Mozambique. So guys, lets grow up and welcome this investment. Dont listen to stupid uneducated politicians like Michael Sata. You all remember when KK got back the land, people starved, we have been given a second chance. Dont screw it up.

  11. Zambian ministers have become adept at sugar coating their failures in incomprehensible jargon to give the impression that they know what they are doing. They use this tactic to string along Zambians for years without paying them what is owed to them. I suppose they will try to use the same tactics to stall the government of Zimbabwe! The only problem here is that unlike the Zambian public, The Zimbabwean government will not just roll over.

  12. You don’t need to be educated to give an excuse for anything. Delays of that nature are a common practice anywhere except we are dealing with a dare situation in Zim not caused by Zambian Gov.
Lets avoid playing double standards- when a politician waffles you remember education, when minimum education is mentioned to stand for a political position, you say politics is not for the educated only. That stinks!!!!

  13. Where are those who were attacking Mugabe for ‘blaming the Zambian government for his own failures’? Your silence is deafening. I tnink you were too quick to dismiss Mugabe’s argument, and you should admit it. Don’t get me wrong I do not support Mugabe’s regeme, but on this one he said something right.

  14. Number 11 need to go back to real African Politics before making that idle and useless, meaningless, childly statements in public. I think he does not have proper information on Newly Agricultural way forward. This is the time Africans should stand on their on legs. Why should we look look for investors on things we can manage on our own????? We can manage farms own our own but WE NEED TO EDUCATE OUR PEOPLE;

  15. #11 watch what you say about leaders, especially about south africa and calling them “monkeys”.
You can be traced….no one is anonymous. Remember that.

  16. #11
I would like to write a whole lot about your ignorance, but seeing that you have an anus for a mouth, I will not waste too much time on a ***** like you thats using up good oxygen that more decent people should be using than you.

  17. I don’t know where our ministers learnt how not to say things straight.Magande calls inefficiency “capacity constraints”, Mike explains the power failure during SADC meeting something to do with cockroaches in the substation and now the delay in giving Mugabe what he has paid for due to “logistical challenges” and “banking payments”. He thinks he is talking to kids?

  18. Imwe this is corruption. The thieves in the Zed govt want to award themselves tuma tenders to transport maize to Zim but they are still waiting for the 2nd hand trucks they have order (using Bob Mugabe’s money)from Japan to arrive via Durban or is it Dar. Why cant they just let go and engage professionals who can fumigate the maize and let transporters do what they do best otherwise Mugabe alebasebanya balenya. Finshi ifyo fine fi “banking payments”?

Mugabe has made a very good observation about our govt “they have no sense of urgency’ and its true. Its stuttering all the way, kuti ifintu fyalondoloka.

  19. I am appalled at the brazen insults that are posted on almost a daily basis by so called Northern Rhodesian and Abdullaziz directed specifically against Zambians and more generally against the black race without reproach. These thankless, homeless nicompoops with peanut brain cannot be allowed to keep biting the hand that feeds them. For them to continually refer to ‘black monkeys’, whatever the context,is reason enough for relevant authorities to take these *****s to task.Clearly these are disgruntled descendants of apartheid, colonialism and fascism in the ugliest forms and agitators of racial violence.Do not let these fools take our modesty for granted. They are purveyors of hate!

  20. #26 and others. The best way to deal with the likes of #11 is to ignore them. You cannot stop them. LT seems powerless at stopping them. I say just ignore them! They feed on your response. Without it, they would look stupid. Their IP address can be traced but they are not breaking any law as far as I know.

  21. I cant believe the Zambian gov’t is trying to take their corruption to Zimbabwe. Its quite simple, get some trucks, load them up with maize and deliver it. Lets not show the world how corrupt our gov’t is.

  22. Wow, it seems everyone has attacked me before giving me a chance to explain myself. If you go to Zimbabwe today, you’ll notice that the land is not farmed and is used by politicians as “holiday resorts”, and probably the same might happen in South Africa. If you go some of the land already repossessed in South Africa, nothing has been going on there, no crops, nothing. The people i refer to as “monkeys” are the corrupt politicians who let this happen just to win votes in the next election and also those who want to cling on land when they cant put it to good use. If someone is trained and has the experience to farm, i have no problem with them but if you want the land but cant do anything…

  23. [cont]
with it, then i have no respect for you (and i will refer to you as a monkey). Zambia has had the land for over 30 yrs and yet there is nothing happenin on it. It’s like those houses in lsk that start but never finish. As the LCC, wouldn’t you rather give it to someone who can actually finish the house than let it lie idle. When the leopard stops chasing the impala, doesn’t it still run when the cheetah chases it. My point is, the oppression is still the same, just the oppressor has changed. I dont think a teacher who went through more than 14 yrs of school likes a K250,000-K350,000 salary.

  24. #31
I did not call anyone a monkey. I think you are referring to this neo-nazi, marxist, white imperialist, colonial day reject here called the “Northern Rhodesian”. I am very offended. I cant believe you would think i would refer anyone in such a degrading manner. Watch your mouth and get you facts straight #31. I need an apology for that.

  25. It seems #32 and others do not get my points. I will no longer blog here anymore then. Lets see where your pride will take you. Have a nice day.

  26. #33
Good ridens to bad rubbish. We as a country will develop and you want be part of it. Take your racist comments elsewhere. Bye and never come back.

    #31
Im still waiting for my apology. Im very angry right now.

  27. Give Mugabe what he has paid for. It sounds like you are contributing to his ‘failure’. or He is puting the blame on you for the his people’s hunger.

  28. #33 N.R. You are missing the point you nincompoop.Maybe that explains why you have the brains of a fried peanut! Blognation is tired and furious with your racist diatribe of hate and degradation of the black race, the anchor of the human race in case you forgot or you just dont know you homeless nomad!Be gracious and say thank you for giving me and my family somewhere to live and call home.If that is too much for you, quitely pack your bags and go and live with Mugabe or whereever your Grandfather ran away from. You will not be missed at all. Hope you dont lie to yourself and stay gone from the sight even though i doubt it.

  29. I am actually not offended one bit by Northern Rhodesian who to me seems to be a realist. Other than using the word ‘monkey’ which is degrading, read his blogs in context. The use of one nasty word ticks you off so much that you cant see what he is writing about. Most of you just read about Zimbabwe but have not seen first hand what is going on, so you would not really understand.Part of what he is putting across is, let’s take advantage of the situation in Zim and the one unfolding in SA. We are even failing to deliver a simple maize order. Actually we need to be selling mealie meal, not maize grains! When are we ever going to stop to be a supplier of raw materials?

  30. Muugabes can easily spend US$1,000.000.00 [ MILLION US $’s] to celebrate his birthday but can’t back up orders for maize for his people with real cash ,then we get some silly Zambians who buy into his ‘stay in power at any cost’ propaganda and rush to blame our own pipo and government. Often times we Zeds are our own worst enemies.

  31. #38 Analyst, you have always come across as a well grounded, rational and informed individual in your contributions, and i should have no reason to think otherwise. Yet i have great difficulty understanding how you can easily dismiss routinely being called a ‘Black Monkey’as something that needs to be viewed in context! I’m sorry but this is not so much about contextual relevance as it is downright degradation and disrespect of the black race especially with such frequent usage.Convince me that this bigot cannot make his case without resorting to vulgar connotations! Give’em an inch, the’ll want a mile, Give’em a mile……

  32. If maize is paid for under contract, it must be delivered on time, in the right quality and quantity. Unless Mulongoti’s “banking payment” argument means that the Zim payment has not been credited to Zambian bank accounts, we are in breach of contract.

  33. No one can trust Zim cheques anymore. We wait until the real money comes in then we act. They owe everyone for elect power and now the maize is urgent coz of elections.Bob is just frustrated by the election propaganda is NOT going for him this time.

And I condemn that imperialist who calls my brother a “black monkey”.Good riddance, I hope he’s gone for good.

  34. the parrot will never cease to amaze me,why not just say you were having problems in converting the zim dollar to zam kwacha.

iwe ci parrot u are the same chap who told the zambian priests and pastors to watch afcon 2008 from the bars and tarverns,,,

  35. I am a white South african Farmer. It seems like this coming years, maybe months the government will speed up the land reform programme and the possibility of losing my farmland is more sure than ever. The process acording to a Sunday newspaper will however be more civilised than the zim landgrabs. On my farm is more than 300 years of experience given to me by the hardships my family went through to build a farm that is a workable economic unit. I am no racist. I give work to 50 farmworkers who have food every month, ‘n brick house to live in, running water etc. What should I do?

  36. JJ move to Zambia, its the only country where you can exploit people, pay little taxes and repatriate all your money to where ever you want to send it.

  37. Abit direcpectful from #47.

JJ go rent land in Zambia for 99yrs, on the cheap as long as you develop the land, at least u will be sure where ur lease ends and can plan for that.

In Zed we need such experience and infrastructure, labor is available and the laws a good for investment.Do not mess with my pipo.

  38. (I piss on your mother Northern Rhodesian)
    JJ
I encourage you to move to Zambia. To avoid any future possible land grabs from greedy politicians (SATA) i encourage you to lease the land. In Zambia, the land is plenty, the labor is there. The Zimbabwean white farmers each have 180-200 employees on there farms, putting 20,000 Zambians in employment. A white farmer, “After i had given my workers there salaries, i heard a drum playing and people dancing, the last time i heard drumming and people dancing was in Zimbabwe when they where repossessing my land, but in Zambia it was drumming of joy as people had gotten

  39. there salaries which they haven’t gotten in a long time. I plan to build all my employees new houses and give them a small piece of land where they can do their gardening”. In Zambia you will also enjoy low taxes and low crime levels. You will not be subject to possible “Farm Murders” and you wont be also subject to “ESKOM LOAD SHEDDING”. In Zambia, RACISM is almost non-existent. Zambian people are not in anyway RACIST and do not take it likely. If you do relocate to Zambia, i encourage you to get to know your workers and socialize with them, this way they’ll get to know you better. I also encourage you to teach some of your workers everything you know about farming as this will enable them

  40. to run their own farms and improve the Zambian economy. It’s a pity what is happening in South Africa and i hope the gov’t gives the farms to good farmers like what i saw with the Vegetable farmers in South Africa. It’s also a shame that people choose to be happy with someones downfall (N.R) and put racist remarks on the blog where people are trying to better themselves through corporation by putting there ideas together. JJ, your expertise will be greatly appreciated in Zambia and if you treat the locals for what they are and that is PEOPLE/HUMAN BEINGS, then no one will ever want you to leave.

  41. Good ADVICE Crazy-Zambian,now i know atleast you are not CRAZY lol!

JJ Zambians are good pipo, come to to zed, invest in our abundant fertile land give your workers reasonable conditions and you will survive but anything below that,we have sata, and he is going to speak for the oppressed and you will end like a chinese.

  42. mulongot deliver ze maize to mugabe….tell us if mugabe’s cheque bounced.. bakabwalala deliver….ngatamwiba show us development…. aka buzi 50pin sure, beans 50pin ka menda…..do yo know zat meat is cheaper than beans….shame
