Katele Using Levy’s Illness to Further his Agenda-Teta

Share

Movement for Multi-Party Democracy (MMD) National Secretary Katele Kalumba is being accused of using President Mwanwasa’s illness to further his presidential ambitions.

The accusation is from MMD Chairperson for Information and Publicity Ben Tetamashimba.

Mr. Tetamashimba said Dr. Kalumba is twisting issues to gain political mileage using Dr. Mwanawasa’s illness.

He challenged Dr. Kalumba to state his position over his ambitions for the presidency.

Efforts to get Dr. Kalumba failed.

Mr. Tetamashimba also accused at a press conference he held, sections of the ruling party of trying to overwork Dr. Mwanawasa.

Mr. Tetamashimba said his succession remarks have been twisted by some people within the MMD to suit their political ambitions.

He maintained that he stands by his pronouncement aimed at preventing a situation where President Mwanawasa is overworked.

Mr. Tetamashimba said he would not allow people with a hidden agenda to twist his succession remarks and criticize him.

Mr. Tetamashimba advised the First Family to be weary of some sympathizers as their sympathy is not genuine.

The MMD spokesperson evoked mixed feelings and reactions after he was quoted to have said that the MMD should discuss the issue of succession when President Mwanawasa returns home from France where he is receiving medical attention.

Meanwhile, cabinet has been asked to show leadership in responding to questions being raised on what would happen if the President is unable to resume work.

Former Vice President, Nervous Mumba however urged cabinet to follow the constitution should such a thing happen.

He said the current illness of President MWANAWASA should not divide the nation and called on all sectors of the nation to unite.

Dr. Mumba also said the current ailment of the President should not be used as a tool for some people to advance their political ambitions.

He told a media briefing in Lusaka, that the current differences that have arisen in the MMD because of the illness of the President should not be entertained any further.

And the Bank of Zambia (BOZ) says President Mwanwasa’s illness will not affect the economy.

Bank Governor, Caleb Fundanga said the country has over $1 billion in reserves.

He said this is enough to cover any foreign exchange withdrawals by investors, who may be uncertain with President Mwanawasa’s illness.

Dr. Fundanga said this at the Banks quarterly media briefing.

He admitted that the Kwacha suffered some depreciation when the President was taken ill but was quick to note that it also appreciated last week.

Dr. Fundanga said there is no need to panic and urged citizens to work harder to sustain the current economic growth.

President Mwanawasa suffered a stroke late last month and is currently admitted to Percy Military Hospital in France.

  1. KATELE YOU CANT BE A PRESIDENT TILL YOU CLEAR UR A$$’S NAME
YOU SHOULD BE IN JAIL, YOU A REPLICA OF CHILUBA
GO AWAY WE DONT NEED YOUR KIND

YOUR COMMENTS HAVE CLEARLY SHOWN YOU ARE ON AN AGENDA BUT YOU ARE A DIRT MAN IN MORE THAN ONE WAYS , JUST GO AWAY

  2. #4 Even if he is cleared we don’t need this guy holding any public office. he has already shown us what he is capable-Chief Plunder and robber of the National Treasury

  3. Dear Cat,
I have some issues with you right now that I would like to hash out. And now is as good a time as any with you laying over my arms while I am trying to type on the computer. You don’t even look comfortable and you can’t breathe lying like that with your butt higher up than your head but your brain is the size of a walnut so I will forgive you.
First of all, the litterbox. Is it your goal to poop on the rim of the box? Because if it is, bravo! Mission accomplished, you can stop now. You have proved your point. It is not funny anymore, and I have run out of sticks in the yard to clean it off with. The box is big enough, and you are still small, so don’t even go there.
    Now… ma

  4. I heard with dismay at how this fellow Katele was trying to mis represent facts, but why was I even dismayed I expected anything from this crook. What LT has not said is the fact that Teta actually wrote a letter to the National Secretary about his thoughts after Katele C Kalumba, declibed to call for a NEC meeting citing financial reasons, later after Teta had issued the statement this Katele C Kalumba comes back and wants to turn back and bite Teta who is well meaning in this instance. This reminds me of aristotle who said “Do not always follow the majority, because the majority could be a majority of fools”. And in addition Katele C Kalumba goes on to call 7 women leaders and youth reps..

  5. contd 8… to come to Lusaka to denounce Teta, so where did the money for this activity come from? This is the Katele C Kalumba we are dealing with. At the same time Micheel mabenga’s silence on this matter is deafening, but one would understand that Katele C Kalumba and Mabenga feel indebted because LPM seems to have developed amnesia about their cases and he might just remember when he returns if they make a wrong move.

  6. This is why we need to know the true state of LPM. These squables that most of you are dismissing with such easiness can and will get bigger and bigger until no one will be able to hundle them. We need apresident…right now.

  7. #7 you’re clearly in the wrong forum…this is Lusaka Times not Lesbian Times.
Back to the story…I really have nothing to say but hang my head in gloom over the escalating uncertainty over Zambia’s future leaders.

  8. ADVISE FROM ME
    1. Don’t pick on the weak. It’s immoral. Don’t antagonize the strong without cause, its stupid.
    2. Don’t hate women. It’s a waste of time
    3. Invest in yourself. Material things come to those that have self actualized.
    4. Get in a fistfight, even if you are going to lose.
    5. As a former Zambian Soldier, take it from me. Don’t join the military, unless you want to risk getting your balls blown off to secure other people’s economic or political interests.

  9. Mwiinga, Lusaka Zambia:
Just to say you are doing a good job in providing us with unreported information. Not only have you done this today but you provided some logical infor yesterday regarding,M’membe & Mutinta. Cheers mate!!!!!!

  10. It is open warfare in MMD now. This is what I like to see – an open and frank discourse. Teta is only saying what the rest of MMD are thinking!

  11. 11. As a young man, you’re on your own. Society divides and conquers. Unlike women who have advocates looking out for them (NOW, Women’s Study Departments, government, non-profit organizations, political advocacy groups) almost no one is looking out for you.
    12. Young men provide the genius and muscle by which our society thrives. Look at the Silicone Valley. By in large, it was not old men or women that created the revolution we live. Realize that society steals your contributions, secures it with our intellectual property laws, and then takes credit and the rewards where none is due.
    13. Know that few people have your best interests at heart. Your mother does. Your father probably does

  12. Maybe with this from Teta we shall get the CJ and cabinet on their feet! Its like Zambia is a classroom without a teacher (LPM), remember how we would shout senselessly and be unruly when teachers left the class, even for a minute and the class monitor (VP-RB) would just fail to take charge of the situation and utter useless things. Even Jelita a naturally quiet girl would have something to say!(Mpombo, Katele and his cohort of uneducated women etc)

  13. Hey fatbottom, don’t think I don’t see you coveting the kitten’s rich tasty kitten food. So knock it off, cause you ain’t getting any.

You can hatch evil plans to acquire the tasty food all you want, but let me remind you, you’re a cat, and your strategies have been at best dismal failures. Let’s refresh, shall we?

You headbutted the kitten away from her food. This was your best strategy to date, and you actually got to snarf down some of good stuff until I caught you, and you were greeted by your arch nemesis, Captain Squirtgun and his sidekick Lieutenant My-Foot-To-Yo-Fat-Ass. Me 1, Tubbins 0

  14. Brute Force no longer an option, you decided to go stealth ops. Lurk, waiting for the kitten to wander, then you swoop in on a high speed raid. That didn’t work out so well for you either did it? Why not? Cause at 20 something lbs, you don’t ‘swoop’ very stealthy. There’s a reason Possums hunt at night- because they’d starve otherwise… just like you’re doing now. Me 2, Sumo-cat 0

  15. Taking no chances and sick of having to guard the kitten bowl until she was done, I decided kitten gets to eat up on the counter. You hate that more than anything don’t you? I can just see the resentment in your pudgy face. Why does she get to eat steak up there, when I’m eating compressed dust down here? Because I know you can’t get up to the counter without a loud distinctive grunt and making a calamity trying to wiggle your raccoon-ass between the wall and the toaster. Me 3, Fatty 0.

Clearly I own you. In all senses of the word. You really ought to just get used to the Vet’s prescribed food. You’re gonna be eating it for at least a decade, which is forever as far as you’re concerned.

  16. # 15 please Kindly comments that are helpful to the blog. For your own information, we have serious business to discuss. This is a polite request.

  17. 10 reasons why I hate being a woman:

    1) I am so sick of my period! One-third of every month is negatively affected by my period. I am either sick from cramps, bloated beyond belief, on it, finishing it, too emotional, not emotional at all, or just simply not myself. The right months are worse than the left ones. Ortho, Depo and the others do nothing to help.

  18. 2) I hate make-up. I went to work today without make-up (I feel like crap already) and the first thing I hear when I sit down is a co-worker saying “I see you woke up late this morning, you should put your face on before anyone else sees you like that”… WTF, this is my face… it is a cute face… I like it just the way it is. Why do I have to put on a show for everyone around me, hell some of the guys here don’t even shave before coming to work… they wear the same tired clothes every week… so why do I need to bother?

  19. 3) I have to be a slave to fashion. Same as the make-up situation, god forbid if I wear my most comfortable pants to work, or an out of style outfit that I personally like. Why do I have to spend a couple thousand dollars a year on clothes and accessories, why do all of my friends want to shop all of the time. This is a sickness, and I am sick of it. I wish I could dress like a guy, in the same suit I bought in 1999 and the same tie that I have worn every week for the past three years. That would be nice!

  20. GiVe Me wHaT i WaNt So I gO aWaY says # 17: Are you on drugs? You have made me angry mate. You are sickening us with your fun incomprehensable comments.

  21. 4) My bra has never fit me right! Why can’t I find a bra that fits me perfectly? One that is slightly adjustable to compensate for my ever changing body? With the right cup just slightly larger than the left cup, one that provides just the right amount of support. Is this too much to ask, retailers have put significant effort into the feminine hygiene realm, perhaps they could divert some of their R&D monies away from moisture lock technologies and into making the perfect bra. If only I was a little smaller, then I could go without.

  22. 5) I hate the following terms: Pu..y, Slit, Cooche, C.unt, Snatch, Cooter, Beaver, Hole, Muff, Twat, and Clam… I also hate Titties, Boobies, Funbags, Melons and any other *****ic name people come up with for my body parts. I have a vagina and breasts or tits. Easy as that. Can you say Vagina? I hope so.

  23. 6) Double standards: Men get away with murder in the business world. Women are held to a much higher degree of scrutiny and to a much higher standard than men. When men talk they are networking, when women talk we are gossiping… when men make mistakes they are risk takers, when women make mistakes we are incompetent, when men argue they are debating, when women argue we are being catty. You get the idea. I am just as smart, if not smarter than most of my coworkers, but I will always get stuck behind a guy with ‘ambition and drive’, especially when I spend a good portion of my month focusing on my insides (see #1).

  24. Its show time in MMD and the games have just began. Better get my self some shandy and relax while watching the unfolding events. I love this circus its simply marvelous. Nakeve ka victory ministries kanveka lelo. Is he strategically positioning his ass to stand again. Oh hell no.

  25. Could we start from 16 at least there is some legible statement not the rest that I see from this sick/high blogger

  26. Its a pity katele wants 2 use his sympath 2 gain mileage. teta neva said anythin bad his concerns r real n the story has been twistd he was nearly condem’d 2 death sayin he wud hav waitd 4 lpm 2 come bak. wat is he doesnt? katele wud hav kept zz like mabenga n aka. kulibonesha ta. soon it wil b a mnth wthout pres who is recoverin slowly acordin 2 veep. wat next? do we nid 2 folo constitution or mmd tradition? zwa akatele ka nkoko

  27. Yah, the centre cannot hold,things are falling apart;

are we witnessing the crumble of MMD,from the inside and not the outside as,is this some self anhilitation …wat a classic end this wud be,go Katele go,give us a rebuttle to Teta’s statement…..

we will surely cheer you chaps on while your house burns as we sip our wine,

the stage is set and this theatre is surely there to enjoy

  28. S..x is different for women. Men take great pride in bedding women, as many and as often as possible. If a women expresses her sexuality she is a whore, tramp or slut. Rightly so sometimes… there is no female equivalent to the blow job, a blow job is a power trip for the guy… I am on my knees in front of him or with my head around his waist in some fashion, pleasuring him until he finishes, then it is up to me to clean up while he basks in the satisfaction. If he goes down on me, it is a different experience, there is no power exchange, he is still in a powerful position (legs apart is always vulnerable) and he is still happy to see my v..gina. The picture alone is worth ten minutes of l

  29. 8) My yearly gyno appointment. enough said, I wish I could just turn my head and cough, just once!

    9) The bathroom! Ok, I am not going to talk about the cleanliness of bathrooms and the hygiene habits of women, that has been covered ad nauseum on this board. I am going to say that I wish I could be a little neater when I pee, I can’t stand that first dribble that tends to go somewhere other than in the bowl if I am not sitting. The squat pee (which I have to do given the state of the restrooms in some places) is never neat for me. No need for graphic details here.

  30. But in what capacity was Victory ministries addressing a press conference, I agree with fellow lady 29

  31. 10) My mother and all other women who feel that I am breaking the social contract by not having children. I have enough issues with my girly parts already, I can’t imagine what having a child would do to me. I also don’t feel like bringing new babies into the current world, so don’t tell me that I should. Don’t say that I should ‘start looking for a husband’ because I am getting older… why don’t you tell the guys, ‘better get serious about a family, your time is ticking’…

I hate the double standards, the 1950s restrictions that still apply today, the fact that every body that sees me thinks that I am a walking baby factory, that I need to put on a show for them to attract a suitable

  32. GiVe Me wHaT i WaNt So I gO aWaY
That infested swamp in your pants must be making you delusional; If you are a male you must be an infested homo.
    Go to hospital.
Youv been told kindley to let us have serious bloggs. Now you want us to insult you.

  33. attract a suitable man to take care of me so that I can bear his children. I want comfortable clothes, a man to truly understand vulnerability, especially sexual vulnerability without getting freaky about it. I want the same priveleges that men have. Is that too much to ask?

  34. We have a nut professor here. Somebody with tranquilisers please help. The gentleman now thinks he has become a lady and soon he will turn into god. Urgently assist please…..

  35. I agree this isnt a woman, well lets ignore him, am really anxious to know what resonse we shall get to Teta tomorrow, hope not silly rhetoric from the MMD Chair and others, we are really tired. We shall divert energies to HH and other emerging leaders mweee. We need to look beyond Levy’s legacy, kwasila ayenda, sitizakaonana futi, mulungu ndiye aziba pali ba Levy…

  36. @ 29 Laty G-string,

Yeah,it’s surely time to get the champagne glasses and toast to the MMD,

Come wat may we a surely headed for a Bitc’h of a fight

  37. Who is this foolish blogger postin crap? this site is not 4 children on anti biotics kalale iwe chi gve me wat i want sha amano ubunono. ma cut n paste ifya senseless. myopic.

  38. #29 mind the language you use when it comes to men of God.In the Bible Saul fell from grace but David never insulted him in anyway even when he was scheming to kill him. Why?DO NOT TOUCH GOD’S ANOINTED!And at the end of the day they are not your servants but servants of God.Not that I condone priests or pastors with loose morals.

  39. nkeche #43 ignore this drug addict, however, #13 thanks, sometimes it is just in order to put things in order. LT stories sometimes are abbreviated and it is good to put things into perspective, I heard this on Phoenix news the whole sound byte was played.

  40. Now coming to politics.I wonder how Katele ended up being the MMD chairperson.Shaka Zulu was right when he said ,’never leave an enemy behind for he will rise up’.
As for fake sympathy we Zambians are notorious for that.Haven’t you noticed how loud people cry at funerals even if they don’t know the person. So Mr Teta fake sympathisers will always be there.

  41. #46 Hola hai and ha ha ha ha, surely and I remember the clip in the drama when Henry Cele (aka Shaka), was saying this wearing something dark (nenze tamba black and white bane) ha ha ha all the same “Never leave an enemy standing” indeed

  42. I don’t agree with Tetamashimba, administratively he was wrong unless he spoke in his personal capacity. He should know that his remarks are the ones that are now dividing his party. Secondly much as i know that Katele has a suspicious standing in society due to past events, i cannot blame him right now all he is calling for is unity in the Party. Right now he and Mabenga arethe only chief executives of the Party. Lets face the facts, Tetamashimba although right to talk about leadershi succession his timing was wrong because it can even bring anarchy in the country

  43. The more Tetamashimba continues even with press briefs, the more dovisions he is creating. I hope and pray that Katele will not respond. Tetamashimba is just worried that in the event that Levy doesent make it the Buchi boys will take over and he and the family tree will be no where thats all not mre than this…

  44. why don’t we have a “spam” button in LT blogs. This ***** is really getting at my nerves. Just when I thought I was coming back to some interesting stuff after yestaday’s nyele article, which was definitelly refreshing, i come to meet this “GiVe Me wHaT i WaNt So I gO aWaY”……La que le parrió

  45. #48 but do you agree that this thing about succession needs to be sorted out? What Teta said was that before going to the Press he wrote a letter to the CEO of MMD, Michael in this case after the National Secretary said he had no money to call for a NEC meeting, but as somebody said Teta was thinking aloud, killing him, condemning him will not solve the problem.

  46. #47 there have been some private champaign toasting over Levy’s illness. Some a sigh of relief that their cases will be quashed.
But please whatever happens the Kateles and others should just be in the background.

  47. #54 now I am scared, the toasting I cannot rule it out. Interestingly letters to the editor in the post are all full of praises for Teta, this shows how the MMD would crumble should they take one wrong move,

  48. #51 Mwiinga, i agree with you that it should be discussed, but you know MMD as an institution should discuss it internally and quitely. Why talk about it in the press. Teta said he wrote to the CEO of MMD but was there an approvalfor him to give press statements. If there have been campaigns undergroud, let the party code of conduct deall with that and Teta as an educated person should know administration. How come all high ranking officials condemn him even though he means well

  49. Teta is the only realistic politician so far.Others are just being remote controllled.
So if we followed the requirements as of those stated by the Zambian Costitution concernig succession who si the most likely person to take over for now? Experts please explain.

  50. #56 I understand your point but this quietness about Levy’s illness is what is driving the nation mad.Yes they can discuss in private but I am sure people like Teta are being frustrated by the likes of Rupiah or Katele who just want the nation to pray until Christmas.
What if Rupiah fell ill or something happened now?

  51. #56, nature abhores a vacuum, it is like the same thing with Malone Zaza, when the Government abrogated its responisbility of informing the stakeholders in Levys life, someone took advantage to fill the void, MMD should not be conducting Mass at Kwacha house, they should deal with issues, I can assure you if katele and his CEO, (both with questionable credentials) should have addressed Teta’s concerns immediately not let it go to the press, atleast that has got them listening and as usual have reacted in a way that exposes them as two people who are not in charge.

  52. Iam suprised how zambians easily become cheated. All of a sudden Teta has become a hero just because of what he said. I wouldnt be suprised if some of you start suggesting him to be the next president. He is justn scared of his position and that was just a way of making most of you to start thinking different of him. The comment he made concerning looking for levys succesor has been made by many people so far, may be just because he is from the family tree that has made most of you excited. If it was another person and not from the family tree, the MMD would have started disciplinary action leading to possible expulsion from the party.

  53. “How come all high ranking officials condemn him even though he means well” and do you really think these guys are not siding with Teta in private? This is Zambian politics this is just a group of misguided comformists, who are not using their heads to think. If MMD has a leadership that inspires confidence how come Mwanawasa had to draw ministers from the opposition, Magande (UPND), Rupiah (UNIP), George Kunda (Unknown but most likely UPND) and others I do not know, this should tell you something.

  54. Teta is Kaonde, how does he come into the family tree, this is something I donot know, maybe others have more information.

  55. Ba mwiinga you are very dull Gom to the dictionry and find out the meaning of family tree. If you dont know even a european can be found in you family tree. Its not being from the same tribe which makes you be a member of a family tree. Go back to your books.

  56. The fact that Katele chose to react, and in the most crooked way, using brainless women and youths, tells alot about the credibility of Teta’s suggestions, and Katele’s resolution to be the next presdo. Zambian’s let’s get organised and prevent this njeru from ever taking up office at plot 1. We all seem to be in agreement about this. No one else will do it for us but our selves. I passionately say NO to Katele’s dribling…his tactics are cheap but will be effective in getting him the presidency since us, the knowing let the brainless decide the people to lead us. Let’s not be afraid or aparthetic in seeing that a credible leader comes to be!

  57. The family tree has more Lenjes, Lambas, Kondes and of course people from western like the former Lusaka province Minister who is married to the Kings daughter

  58. Levy’s sickness has at last shown us the true colors of the team he has …the people we’ve actually trusted with our economy; No unity! Nakni ya vuta manje … bwafya!

  59. “Teta is Kaonde, how does he come into the family tree, this is something I donot know, maybe others have more information.” #65 please read this again! before you call me ‘DULL’ especially the last part maybe you read it in haste. In other words instead of calling me derogatory names, please just provide information how Teta belongs to the family tree, ordinarily I would have taken strong exception to your choice of words, but what is the use?

  60. #66 Just to correct you, it was no Katele who of all reacted to Tetas remarks. The first person to react to the statements was MMDs chairman for minerals Kaunda Lembalemba after that Mabenga and then Katele so dont demonise katele.

  61. #68, I have no idea! Quite honestly after the 2005 convention when I heard that Mabenga was elected national chaiperson after being convicted for misuse of public resources, I wrote off MMD, from what I hear Mabenga, Pande, Kalumba etc

  62. #72 but which of these people is credible, Lembalemba is barely making it and he is now preaching from the last time a saw him and he was at DUNAMIS the time i saw him preaching

  63. Ba #65 Kumwendo Munjila, would it have hurt you so much if you’d only explained that it’s possible for people of different tribes to be on the same family tree and not call Mwiinga dull? I mean your point is valid, but the fact that you choose to use derogatory language against a blogger who even indicated that he could be wrong is just very strange of you.

Mwinga, your blogging is well very far from that of a dull individual. You blog like a true man of honour!

  64. 76, ha, I like that, nkhani ya ku… well it looks like MMD is sinking….I dont knw of any clean person in there, thats the crisis they had in 2001 when Kafupi brought in ba Levy, now yadensa sana mwee. Apart from MMD who are the other reliable chaps, a big NO, NO to ba shikulu ba Sata(na)no offence meant

  65. #72 My brother, the question of credibility is a big issue to discuss. Wikipedia defines credibility as composed of two primary dimensions: trustworthiness and expertise, You cannot know how truthfull someone unless you define indicators for truthfulness because it is subjective. But when we look at expertise since we are talking about leadership we are talking about organisation etc, You can only know the expertise of someone if you have observed someone performa particular task. So it is diffucult. For administrative purposes i would go for Magande atleaset he has shown administrative capacity

  66. Do people honestly believe LPM shall rule forever? Why shouldn’t we be talking about a new leader? Who does those women and youth represent? Isn’t it just Katele spining his majik? I’m woman and youth, and certainly do not share those women and youth’s vision for Zambia. Let’s pray for new leadership also as we pray for LPM’s recovery. GOD be with us!

  67. Well if we are to choose leaders based on credibility then it is difficult to choose Chirwa and HH, because most of us don’t knowif they are truthfull or have the expertise to “govern”. I certainly would not choose Chirwa. A local breed is better, why hasit been difficult for him tolive in Zambia ?? does he know the shangombo road, Mporokoso road and doese he know how government workers in Kafwambila in Sinazngwe live ? he needs to answer these questions other wiise he will be like others who think Lusaka is Zambia andonly concentrate on Lusaka for development

  68. #82 I agree with you my sister, but honestly speaking and also from proffessional practice, the prognosis of LPM can’t be better. Even if he comes back from sleep. I don’t see him getting back to the office. A new leader is a must!! But how should it be done since we are in a Multi-party democracy??

  69. #84 well well I’ll go by the answer given by Obama when asked how he was going to govern considering that he had no experience at all.He said,’google and microsoft came from no where’.These same old politicians have given us nothing but the same old problems.
He hasn’t been living in Zambia much because he is on high demand to the west.

  70. Let’s set up a creteria for coming up with a leader along the questions:

    1) What qualities do we want to have in our leaders?
    2) Which of our politicians have these qualities?

  71. Who are the Judiciary in Zambia ?They are supposed to come in to settle this.
Chief Justice and the rest have been dead quiet. Are they also part of the family tree?

  72. VJ has all the qualities to lead. Hailing from the UN as youngest african ambasodor, he has the experience.
    Mwanga has all the qualities.

  73. But one thing I can comment on the Zambian people is that they are peaceful, thanks be to God.Despite what has been going on it’s business as usual.Imagine if Kabila or Mugabe had to be taken ill?Chaos

  74. KC,I am sorry VJ has outlived his usefullness,He is not as health as you might know.Remember we are in a global economy.

  75. #92 Must also prove that he is not tribalistic and pledge to be equal to all people. Very hard one but there should be a law forbidding people to employ their relatives and so on.The court should always be on the look out for that.

  76. #97, nice one. This reminds me of the issue to do with competitions – where a company will warn people who have relatives in that company not to participate in the competion.

  77. Honesty – Display sincerity, integrity, and candor in all your actions. Deceptive behavior will not inspire trust.
Competent – Your actions should be based on reason and moral principles. Do not make decisions based on childlike emotional desires or feelings.
Forward-looking Set goals and have a vision of the future. The vision must be owned throughout the country. Effective leaders envision what they want and how to get it. They habitually pick priorities stemming from their basic values.
Inspiring – Display confidence in all that you do. By showing endurance in mental, physical, and spiritual stamina, you will inspire others to reach for new heights. Take charge when necessary.

  78. Ladies & Gentleme;

I am pursuing a line of enquiry regarding some ambassodors or high commissioners who have not been seen since the bad news broke out. Does any know anything about this? Secondly who is guarding against the striping and looting of our national assets in key areas given the fact that MMD is engrossed in internal wrangles? Thirdly; for those in Europe, is it possible to secure data via the Freedom of Information protocal in partnership with the media & lobby groups (clues for you guys)!!

  79. Anyhow, let us wait and see. I am enjoying the unfolding events in the MMD and country at large. My take is let us see how the government will handle all this.

When elections are called we will then be able to discuss names of people who can be better Republican President. For now, I think it is premature to talk about these issues.

But I will make mention that only HH has started his 2011 campaign – which means that he is the only ready candidate – and this was launched some 2months or so ago in Ndola.

  80. Intelligent – Read, study, and seek challenging assignments.
Fair-minded – Show fair treatment to all people. Prejudice is the enemy of justice. Display empathy by being sensitive to the feelings, values, interests, and well-being of others.
    Broad-minded – Seek out diversity.
Courageous – Have the perseverance to accomplish a goal, regardless of the seemingly insurmountable obstacles. Display a confident calmness when under stress.
Straightforward – Use sound judgment to make a good decisions at the right time.
Imaginative – Make timely and appropriate changes in your thinking, plans, and methods. Show creativity by thinking of new and better goals, ideas, and solutions to problems

  81. Standard Bearers –
establishes the ethical framework within the country. This demands a commitment to live and defend the climate and culture that you want to permeate your country. What the leader sets as an example soon becomes the rule as unlike knowledge, ethical behavior is learned more by observing than by listening. And in fast moving situations, examples become certainty. Being a standard bearer creates trust and openness in coleagues and citizens, who in turn, fulfill your visions.

  82. KATELE will never RULE…that fool is headed to JAIL!!!!! VIVA TETA bring em ot mudala who else release the BLOODHOUNDS..oh yea stupid mulongoti is another!!!!yes i said it STUPID MULONGOTI ..lol come get me nigga!!!!!!!u will find me in ATLANTA ok….GENETICALLY MODIFIED *****

  83. okay, now that some people here have set up some qualities needed in a leader, which of our politicians meet them?

#89, Forget about the legal community in Zambia. They are asleep. They wait to be approached, never proactive and always without courage and selflessness.

  84. Thanks guys for coming to my rescue, i really thought I was beginning to lose it, anyhow good nite/goodmorning for those in auckland

  85. #100 Just Name and Shame these cowards.
I personally blame the Judiciary for being so inactive. Are they waiting for aother Mwamba Luchembe or Captain Solo?
We demand to know the truth as well as to be assured that the govt is moving forward .

  86. #92 education only puts your food on the table but doesn’t make you to be the best leader. On the other hand this will be discrimination persons based on not having having been to higher education. Again the can mean pipo who are not educated can’t vote.I do believe their pipo out there who are capable of running the country without being to the university. Many fox out there with degrees have failed even to run akatemba. In other words every Zambian should be given the right to stand for any position regardless if they can have pipo to help them and it is a universal human right that we cant breach.

  87. MMD will is late come 2011? it does not matter who takes the leadership role..kuya bebele? PF is already a disgraunted party..king cobra’s is also unfit…as his chain smoking habit has already done harm to old heart? too late to stop now? Dr Katele and Teta are simply wasting their time. UNIP is full of dreamers who seem not to realize that we are now in 2008 and not the 1960’s. Let the wrangles continue in the MMD has they have no heart for the ordinary people? Zambia no longer has time for fortune seekers and bootlickers? it is like everyone wants to do good in the eyes of LPM and the voters?

  88. Mwinga mate continue to update us with what is happening out there in Zed. Personally i have liked your contribution it is accurate and fair.Never listen to those who want to assasinate you verbally.

  89. Thanks and bye this place is becoming addictive, i learn something every other day, but yalikosa my GPRS is milking me so inga mwamona nshilipo ninshi talktime yashupa guys nipa zed.

  90. PF is popular Tonga Bull dont even cheat yourself Man. I work in the Hosp and I know if you stop smoking you have the chance to increase your health and year of not having heaert attack.
But I wouldnt say much about by pass done on someone .

  91. 96. anonymous, 109. Pafwenamwine ,
Even most small companies need only degree applicants apply. Now which is more important to run , a small company or the country ?
In these days of globalisim, i belive education to at least degree is essential for the top job. You can not realy only on advisors, the Presido needshis own vision.

  92. #116 I almost forgot about ba Miyanda…good choice really.
#117 Totally agree but degree has politicians like ba Vera Chiluba? Domestic Science degree or what?

  93. Or like some people hear in the UK are tree surgeons or plumbing consultants and co.Maybe if they state what sort of degree relate to the office of the president.

  94. #74 mwiinga, are you serious about lembalemba preaching? And presumably in the forefront of the prayers for the president. Which god can hear those prayers organised by disgruntled elements of society? Bane lets be serious. Back to teta, I have seen nothing wrong with what he has done and I am sure he is just as worried as nay well meaning Zambian because putting any of those chalattans in power would open the flood gates to hell.

  95. I also think Miyanda would be a good choice. You can not accuse him of any Crime like all the othere? Sata is compromised and he is very quite for an oppositon leader thru this ordeal.
Sata will sell the country to the Taiwans as his ass was chased out in Malalwi when he went for a meeting.

  96. I agree bachelor’s degree is a basic qualification. Its only that in Zambia the education policies are extremely poor and we have very few degree awarding institutions. Education is a previledge and not a right but it is aright in other countries. However, we need someone with this basic qualification. Ama degree yamubukalamba nayo I dont know how well they change a person look at ba FTJ with his proclaimed MSc form Warwick University in UK.

  97. 122. mbuzi
Miyanda is a chancer. During FJT’s 3rd term bid he is on film saying he will castrate any decenters to the 3rd term bid.
Like Sata, he was in deep support for it and only jumped ship after he saw others aboundoning ship.

  98. #116 I think Lets forget about Miyanda,he has been on the political scene for so long with no new ideas and no impact. His only idea was the ‘Village system’ which he even failed to explain. HH and Sata have provided far better opposition politics than Miyanda. Lets try new blood with new ideas. We have a lot of capable leaders.. Magande, Proff Chirwa, Mutati, Chituwo, Chifumu Banda, HH etc

  99. Slow down and be assured that Katele is just exercising his democratic right. Before the party power machinery and the international platform he has no future or mileage to worry the nation. There just too many odds against him on many fronts. Some things are worth cementing them in the background. We would rather stage a junta of our choice take over to cleanse the base than surrendering the future of the nation and party to a legion of plunders.Give time to finish the power consolidation and logistical movements then the show will be on.All power bases must be synchronised and readied for a prime Game.

  100. Slow down and be assured that Katele is just exercising his democratic right. Before the party power machinery and the international platform the man has no future or mileage to worry the nation. There are just too many odds against him on all fronts. Some things are worth cementing them in the background.

  101. In best National and international community interest we would rather stage by design a junta take over of choice to cleanse the base than surrendering the future of the nation and party to a legion of Ps.Give others time to finish the power consolidation and logistical movements then the show will be on.All power bases must be synchronised and readied for a prime Game.

  102. Its true Kaunda Lembalemba runs a church now called 11th Hour Ministries and occassionally preaches on TBN Zambia. Commenting on the qualifications of a presido, I strongly feel he/she must have a minimum of a degree. Look at what Chiluba did to the nation.

  103. Without a degree someone may end up signing for things they dont even understand. We are tired of being lead by illiterates.

  104. Proff Chirwa sounds good on paper as he is an academic. We still have highly educated pipo in leadership ie. Dr Fundaga, Mangnde , Mutati, LPM etc yet porverty is still ripe.
Chirwa needs to go thru the ranks and earn his stripes and sell his manifesto to the masses before he is considered president.
Having him on the ticket now will be a great risk as he has no expeirence and most importanly it will set a bad precedent of electing future leaders.

  105. If companies only look for degree holders to lead them, how can we, in this day and age even think you need less qualifications to run the country ?. Come on chaps. Some of those MPs have bein voted in by an illitrate voter, bribed with $1.00 wirst watches and shake shake. Now you want to bring this problem all the way to the top. God help us.

  106. #134 I think a degree does not necessarily make someone eligible to be president. Other talents and qualifications should also be considered. Remember Chiluba had a Masters from Wawick University. These days anyone can get a degree even through the internet. Leadership should be sound, based on ones character, abilities, judgment, willingness to learn and work with others. That’s how Jacob Zuma with imperfect morals and inadequate education is showing better leadership than the learned Thabo Mbeki.

  107. #137 I mean a genuine degree. If you follow me, I included Chiluba among the illiterates. You may wish to check on # 132 where I said the degree should be a MINIMUM requirement, meaning, there are other things to look at. For example, Katele has a degree but his morals strip him of that degree.

  108. PF has some good young leaders that can lead the nation but of course so does the other parties. We need to see amongst the nation a leader to emerge that will unite the country and will be accepted by all to work for the good of the nation and her people.

Change is part of growth and movement and we must learn to manage change effectively ensuring that Zambia remains peaceful and everything is fair and equal in the country.

  109. Let us not descriminate pipo on the basis of education. If that will the case then those who have no degrees shouldn’t be voting. What a country! Try to analysis and avoid the impact of coming up with any policy or piece of legistration that will descriminate pipo any form whether age, race, social class just to mention afew.in essence of this degree issue pipo will challege this in court law based on human rights and I have a strong feeling that anyone can win the case. Zambia is not for the learnt but for everyone. What matters is the ability to provide services that will meet the needs and aspirations of the pipo.

  110. #138 So you mean a teacher from Nkrumah, a Agriculturalist from NRDC, a clinical officer from Chinama, an accountant from Evelyn hone or NIPA should not qualify to be president even if they have good leadership qualities? And how do you define a genuine or effective degree in this context? After all someone with a degree in rocket science may not understand economics and a medical doctor may not understand mining. A degree should not be the minimum qualification to be president.

  111. Chirwa I personally doubt him to be the best president. How long has he been away from Zambia? We have seen pipo coming up with names suitable to be a president. Wait and see. It is just the beginning of of things fall apart in MMD.

  112. #117 Shushushu, Yes we need pipo with minimum qualifications to stand but shouldnt be used descriminate any person from standing if he/she is capable of running our country. We have alot of degree holders who can not even implement a plan and evaluate it. We have seen pipo without degrees able to plan, implement and evaluate the success of the business.

  113. Crisis is with MMD only. The opposition in Zambia should unite, PF, UPND, RP, UNIP, ULP etc to form a government of national unity in the coming elections.

  114. Education (degree and beyond) is definitely important as a basic qualification but other qualifications should also be considered on top of the education achievements such as past performances, character, leadership skills , ethics etc.

  115. are u kidding me!!!!vj for president huh i prefer sata then

prof chirwa well he is educated but 20yrs out of your country and then u wanna come lead i aint buying that stay in london mudala we have credible pple who can lead us..well not in MMD tho lol

  116. PIPS… IS OUR PRESIDENT IN A COMA ???????
has there been any word or statements from him to asure the Zambian people that he is indeed on a road to recovery.. all we hear is this and that from him or her . with limited information . i am begining to wonder .because in some cases a stroke can lead to a coma and this is his second stroke .any one out the has any serious info about LPM.

  117. Dr Manda is questioning Levy ‘s stability in the post.Dr Manda is a neurologist he knows much better.Anyway lets wait and see.

  118. #153, point of correction, Dr F. Manda is a urologist not neurologist. He specializes in the urinary tract and related infections but i believe him being a senior medical practioner, he knows something about neurology.
I too share the same sentiments. LPM may not come in one piece and i dont know what certain decision makers are waiting for. This also goes to the mwanawasa family that they shud understand that the presidency is not a personal to holder issue and they shud realize that actually the zambians are the bosses who just entrusted their powers in one person as not all the 10 million can be presidents at the same time

  119. If LPM is concious, then we shud know if he is breathing alone without the ventilator. if he is unconcious, we shud again know the extent of the brain injury caused by the haemorraghe

  120. For once I have taken Teta seriously but he will remain a joke just like his colleague Katele. Talking about presidents and qualifications: A degree is necessary but not essential for such an office. Even in the corporate world we have people who’ve established big compnanies without any degree and have ended up employing degree holders. The most these guys have received are honourily degrees. Having said that I still feel a tertially qulification should be number but this must be combined with ones achievements in both public and private life. A good element should be right in all areas of life such social, economic, business life etc. Miyanda and Magande would be my top 2.

  121. THIS IS THE FIRST TIME TETA HAS SHOWED TRUE LEADERSHIP,AND MADE SENSE.IF THERE IS ONE WHO WOULD LOVE LPM TO BE DEAD.ITS KATELE.

  122. We must aspire for a leadership that is self-actualized and competent in the professional area that they are involved in. We must not take in any of the current politicians except HH who has been with a sound self-suppporting machine for his survival. Chirwa is okay. The rest are leaches, who have been sucking from the GRZ. We must not let people that have been milking us get into Plot 1. We must start from with clean guy with brains to leapfrog all these years of incompitent leaders since 1991.

  123. # 144. Pafwenamwine
How come pipo without degrees don’t sue companies who advertise jobs based on degree holders only ?

  124. #79 misplacing your dictionary just shows how disorganised you are. You are likely to misplace anything placed in your care. So in short you are not to be trusted with antything.

  125. Katele is a thief, his name is on the zamtrop list that president Mwanawasa read out some years back. Does he still use his famous “laptop” Come guys wake up ! Katele is just an everyday criminal ass politician. Oh i forgot what about the bmw issue ? Is his ass off the hook ?

  126. Zambians at one point have to wear green ribbons to have this constitutional crisis sorted out,or you end up with a Katele in State House or a Tetamashimba.Lets not take things for granted mwebantu, everything is not well in MMD and the Nation, there is every indication. What we are hearing could just be a tip of the iceberg,RB looks as if he is being remote controlled with his statements whilst,Teta is not economical with truth. No one should doubt Kateles inteligence and shrewdness, knees down before somebody when it suits him and hides and eats with jackals/villagers when need arises.Only man who can use modern IT with African bwanga. He passed through ba FTJs school of ama politics mind you?

  127. We live in interesting times. In Zed Katele is positioning himself to be the next Presido with pending court cases on corruption… across the Limpopo, Zuma is preparing to be the next RSA presido also with pending corruption cases. On both sides of the fence, intellectuals and ‘middle’ class are violently opposing. Do you know what is interesting in all these, you and I the supposedly ‘educated’ can not do anything to stop these guys.. instead the power brokers are un-educated kaponyas whose only worry is amount of chibuku katele can give them.

  128. For as long as we keep on receiving updates from these thieves (Mulongoti, Mpombo and veep) who are not even medical doctors, the nation will keep on speculating the illness of our presido. Why cant the nation come up with a team of doctors who should be updating us on the presido’s illness?

  129. we don’t need plunderers to lead our nation.Abash witch doctor Katele…abash selfish chaps…LPM need some rest.

  130. Levy miscalculated, leaving vacuum in the party, not knowing katele was scheming behind the scenes. Same way FJT dribbled late Arthur Wina

  131. Watch this space, those shady boys from luapula are regrouping, mmembe & nhito boys better run for their lives! If we let them take power back, trust me, they will never let go of it after the experience they’ve been thru with Levy. Nxt few months will be critical for the future of our beloved Zed. God help us!!!

  132. Mwiinga thanks for showing us your maturity. Squablling with a full makes you sink to their level. Kamwendo was reading you posting in reverse. instead he/she is showing us how dull he is.
so chalila mu MMD? Pipo it true the clay has cracked

  133. Twakana abaloshi mucalo.Katele is a proven ‘magician’…….for lack of a better term. He should have no business trying to be come our presdo! and if MMD make a mistake of putting him up for presdo ta twaka mu votele!

  134. for all those doubting katele’s abilities, i repeat, pls lets all UNITE to prevent that snake 4rm taking over the reigns…trust me pls napapata, it’s not only mmembe & nchito brothers who’ll be $hitting in their pants – we’ll ALL need diapers if we allow that satanist to wield his power over us all

  135. Presidential re-run should be held within 30 days
THE National Constitutional Conference (NCC) democratic governance committee yesterday agreed that a presidential election re-run should be held within 30 days in case the candidates fail to win 50 per cent plus one of the total votes cast.

    what do fellow Zambians say?

  136. guys God forbid, katele shud never ever be aloud to rule sweet country of zed.let him concentrate on his court cases and not disturb us,honestly a man retrieved from a whole with some kind of a “laptop”,i will not be part of such sickness!!!!!!!!!!!

  137. Teta has put down some sensible points to consider but after careful analysis, this is my conclusion.
After realising that the CEO of the party Katele would not act,Teta wrote to the Chairman who promised to call a meeting so Teta should have waited 4 Mabenga’s action b4 rushing to the press so his well meant ideas have been pre-emptied to make it seem he has no heart,he should blame himself.MMD scrapped the position of Veep but i believe there is no vacuum in MMD now as the Chairman is there as overall head & the CEO who runs the party day to day is there(Katele) so Teta’s fears over a vacuum were misplaced and untimely as the Pres’s illness has not been confirmed permanent yet.

  138. In a democracy which we believe we are in. No one even Katele should be barred from contesting positions of their choice unless its made absolutely clear in the rules that a person(s) with a background such as e.g criminal record cannot stand. Let the people decide. Those against him should simply de-campaign him in the process like is the case always. Otherwise ambitions are valid according to his own views. It should not cause others sleepless nights.

  139. The day i heard Katele wanted to take over Zambia was one of the saddest days of my life. Please my people let us not allow this to happen,we can not let another plunderer to take over,Zambia can not survive another situation like we went thru under FTJ and his cronies.
The best and only replacement for LPM in my opinion would be N’gandu Magande, having worked under him for sometime, this is a man I have come to know and has a high financial and professional morals which many of our zambian politicians lack including Katele.
Mr Magande also holds the right qualifications to be president,Bsc Economics and mathematics,Msc Agric economics,Project analysis form the USA.
    His work expirience has

  140. contnd from #180
It is very clear that Katele has ambitions of being party & national President but i cannot rule out Teta from having such ambitions too so to me they are all a bunch of opportunity seekers now they are trying to outshine each other in public which is not healthy for the party, however,Teta is showing total insubordination to the party CEO & can be disciplined however right he in his ideas, hierarchy is important in any setting just like the HR Manager in a company cannot hold a press briefing denouncing the MD.

  141. Katele does not stand any chance in Zambian politics he is not clean chill guys he has a lot of issues to sort out. ka court kalemulolela as we speak.
The likes of Felix Mutati has been so zzzz aliko olo anamwalila.

  142. Katele forget who would ever vote for you the Satanist, then we would allow satanists to wipe us out. Maybe the Ng’nga’s will vote for him coz they want witchcraft to be legalised. Those dancing MMD women are deceiving him to think he has support when he doesnt.

Mulongoti is also very quiet wonder why? Because he’s busy supporting his six homes. The man is fully loaded with responsibilities.

  143. cont from 182:
been MD for the former Lima bank,ZANACO ,secretary general of ACP and former director in the ministry of finance. This man is second to none.In all his 30 years of service there has not even been one scandal which he has been involved in which i cant say for the likes of Katele.

  144. Zeddy (180), there may not be a vacuum in MMD but jus look @ the calibre of Chairman Mabenga & Secretary Kalumba and you’ll understand why genuine supporters of Levy’s policies will find themselves in a predicament! Kalumba is plottin for presidency, believe me, and he will get it!!! guys, have u seen the Post editorial today? mmembe is sweating in the middle of winter!

  145. Be gender sensitive in your search for the next president. there are capable women in zed who are capable of taking our country in the right direction, prof nkandu, edith, sikazwe and others. we may just come across zambia’s angela merkel. The menfolk have disappointed us for the past 44yrs.

  146. Lady L#185
Unlike in old times where we had the party spokesperson also being government spokesperson,it’s not the case for Mulongoti. He is quiet because he is only government spokesperson but since the President is away, any information regarding the Presidency should come from the Veep & anyting to do with the party comes from the party Spokesperson under authorisation by the party Sec Gen(Katele) which is not the case now so Mulongoti is probably laughing but concentrating on his Ministerial job whilst those without Ministerial jobs like Katele & Teta battle it out in the press.

  147. All of you who are saying that Katele does not stand a chance of being President, remember that in MMD they still hold himwith high esteem. Now if Katele ould be chosen as Party President with in MMD what would you do ? would you vote for Tilyenji Kaunda ? Kenny Ngodo ? HH ? Michael Sata ?.Andremember MMD has now brought the country on track. What would you do ?

  148. Cynic@#187
You’re right about the credibility of Katele & Mabenga(corruption cases) but it’s up to the party in all provinces to choose a successor of the Presidency in the party and it’s those party members that decided to abolish the post of party Veep so again they will decide who will take over from Levy in MMD but this should be separated from government, people have been linking the crisis in MMD with government, the National Veep may not hold a senior post in the party but he is ultimately the next man in line after the state President so he will take over irrespective of his standing in the party(MMD)but i cannot see MMD in govt beyond 2011 without Levy.

  149. The other thing is all of you interligent bloggers don’t want to express interest in running for Presidence of the land. So if interlectulas like you don’t want and just continue saying that Katele cant become president. To be honest, if none of you want to be President Katele will become one because there is no Challenger. So instead of being anonimous bloggers come out in the open and start selling your names so that we choose you. This is tough staff but truthful

  150. Twafweni@#191
If we were given a choice between Ngondo,HH,Sata and Katele,i would definately vote for HH or if HH pulls out Kenny Ngondo not recycled leaders like Sata, who has shown dictatorial tendencies in his time in the MMD party & previous govts led by Kaunda & Chiluba,i wouldn’t also vote for Katele a proven plunderer of state resources but if the only candidates were Sata & Katele,i would have no choice but to vote for Katele,Sata,an illiterate has no place in modern politics at least i know Katele can run a country but we all know there would be too much underhand deals.

  151. LPM’s stroke seems to have caught the MMD without pants. We all need to find out where the break in the thread has occured, from where everything is un-winding.

  152. MMD is died. and LPM made a mistake not to choose a vice president of the party. who will rule my beloved zambia. but lets not choose a thief again.

  153. Chief Kalindawalo #138, be reminded that Zambia has been let down by the so called educated. Come in the industry and see how the so called graduates fail.It is really sad. Education is not wisdom.I know some graduates who are the most useless persons and i know some persons e.g Bill Gates is a college drop out who are evry good and are performers. Nowadays, also most Zambian graduates complete their programs thru umwembeshi i.e. buying assignments, bribing lecturers etc. Data is there for everyone to see.And please do not talk about life, because most people that are dying now are the young ones. People like you think because you’re educated then you’re wise. That is not the case!!

  154. My brethrens, education is not wisdom. That is the more reason God in the olden days used to rise sherperds to Kings. Typical example King David a sherperd boy. Even now, God will anoint someone with humble background and we don’t even know him to be our next president.People who think by being professors then that is passport enough to lead people. You are telling lies. From what i have experienced most people who are very highly educated fail lamentably in providing leadership. Another typical good example is our Ministry of education. It is being lead by a most highly educated person, Prof.Lungwangwa. Look at the UNZA crisis and others institutions. It is a disaster!

  155. Let Miyanda join MMD, I believe together with Clive Chirwa the can continue where LPM will have left off, otherwise we are doomed. Of course there will be a lot of pressure from the likes of Katele, Shikapwasha, Sata, Teta, but here we have to safeguard the interests of the country, so plz no emotional choices should be entertained. Let us choose someone who will move the country forward.

  156. Katele will be end of MMD. Zambia has turned the page on those thieves and thugs from FTJ era. Whats this ***** doing on this side of Chimbokaila gates?

  157. Can someone please write on here who was the Minister of Education when UNZA was closed concurrently for 8 months and 7 months leading to about 2 academic year losses between 1998 and 2000. This mentioned closure affected me terribly for i fell I lost 2 good years of progress.
A person like me who is in a hurry to see Zambia develop economically, scientifically, socially, technologically, etc surely will not think of any of the people who failed us in the past.
“Unless we forget the past, we have no present and can not even hope for a future” – Unknown.

  158. A nother good example, Ministry of health under Michael Sata and under Dr. Brian Chituwo. Compare and contrast. It is who Sata who introduced transport system for nurses and doctors in case you were not there and you don’t know. He further introduced nurses putting on leggings and trousers so as to lessen some of the problems they experienced. There was plenty of medicines and other resources in our Zambian hospitals then. This old man brought alot of good reforms in this ministry.Let us learn to give credit where it is due, brethrens.
Look at our public health centres today. It is really sad.Even essential things such as slinges, cutton, razors to mention but a few cannot be found. It’s sad!

  159. Fellow blogger, help me undestand Fundanga’s comments on the over $1Billion in the reserves. Why keeping that money when we dont have medicines, equipments in Hospitals. If our hospital where well equipped this time around LPM could have been home and be visited by us the pipo of Zd.Part of this monday can be used to finish Mutanda-Chavuma or Mongu-Kalabo roads

  160. Ladies and gentlemen much as i agree to the point tht no one shud be hindered frm standing as a president,i believe education qualifications shud b also consindered as well as other factors.Education broadens the reasoning of a person.imagine having a person with leadership qualities but no good education qualifications, how wud such a person run the affairs of our nation?

  161. # 201 We should look for wise people only among the educated. That is what the rest of the world is doing. We should not lower our standards just because some graduates somewhere have failed. We need to sort out our constitution first and then a wise graduate will perform. Gone are the times when men and women of few letters after their names can lead a country!…….30 years ago yes…the world older is in favour of Education whether you like it or not

  162. The last good example is Ministry of Local Govt. Sata’s performance was exemplarly. People that were there can tell it because most young people were not there and so they don’t know all these things. Tell it to the children, Men!! Now todays local Govt is run by well educated Masebo. Nothing is happening. Both long term and short term plans don’t exist in our local govt. Go to Botswana and see how progressive there are. They building public houses, building, roads etc. The Batswana are not as educated as Zambians.Whilst Zambia is full of talk shops. The only change Masebo has brought is her dress code. She puts on expensive dresses. That’s so.And she never done any good works at all!!Wake up!

  163. 208, 212, I am in support. That is why Chiluba was a mistake. How can the whole of the president open a foot bridge at Manda Hill and call that national development? We need an educated man with intergrity. Sata is lot. I am not in Zambia to be honest, I really don’t know candidates but Magande is what we need. At 44, Zambia needs a man who will develop it. KK gave us independece, Chiluba instead of driving us forward took us back 20 years, Mwanawasa has in the short time restored Zambia a bit.

  164. for real magande should be put on the list, just like felix mutati and chirwa.about education, certainly we need fully literate ladies and gentlemen in higher political positions esp at presdo level.21st century politics, you cannot afford to sell a semi literate presdo, yes there illiterates who are wise but its almost impossible fo them to fit into modern politics, this is not 1960….to be continued.

  165. #213 i guess you are in Russia pursuing an education.I than wonder why you are putting up with those harsh temperatures, learning to speak Russian b4 you start to study you chosen field of interest. It is also dangerous out there for black students as there are those skin heads. But you have put up with it to archieve your goals and to understand the world beta.So why would you want our beloved Zambian to be ruled by uneducated person. We live in complex times and we need a leader who can not only need but be able to understand the world and represent and guide us.No desrespect but what do you expect people like Sata to talk to eg the President of the world bank???We need someone of high calbre

  166. While agreeing that education alone does not make one a good leader, I think we ought to be very careful not to be promoting mediocrity. Countries in the so called first world have advanced economically, socially and politically, not by accident, but because throughout the ages, they have placed a high premium on education. Education is the conduit for economic, social and I daresay even political mobility. Watching Barrack Obama talking about his foreign policy yesterday, I asked myself when we will get to the level of such near flawless and intelligent debate. That does not come by accident. Education plays a major role

  167. katele kalumba should even be ashamed of himself.i now believe what they say that indoshi shalipama.he should not even be showing off his face on our media we dont need him,he is same as scrap.mwe bantu pipo like katele should be punished for life, and the kind of punishment i can suggest is public service, were by he is taken to kamwala market to unblock the sewer system and daily cleaning of inter city bus terminus.
Batubelesha sana mwe bantu aba ba kapala

  168. Brethren, what is to be educated?? It is to just to acquire chains of degrees, diploma etc that describe someone as being educated?? Yes, i agree with you all that education is good but it should not be a basis to judge someone’s capabilities of being an intelligent leader. i have alot of so called ph holders who are *****s. Example, Prof.Lungwangwa. This man can handly solve any of the numerous problems facing our education systems in Zambian. The guy has no tangable plans, at all. There are many more so called very higly educated who have failed us. A Zambian engineer who cannot even handle a screwdriver. What sort of engineer his he?? Is this what you call being educated?

  169. ..eg,illiterates sold council housing units for as little as k10,000 purely for their polical gain, leaving councils with little sources of revenue.ask kafupi with questionable education why he did such a thing-selling houses like loaves of bread, mines like housing units, parastatals like farms etc.we need educated individuals who think thru national issues………to be continued.

  170. If you asked our leaders what they stood for, the replies will be vague references to their party manifestos, yet these same people can not articulate the contents of their manifestos so that these ideas resonate with people. Our politicians have located their political debate in that space which keeps many people, such as you esteemed bloggers out of any meaningful contribution. They think it is fine to keep people uneducated so that they can continue to act as ‘saviors’ to a very beholden and largely semi-literate populace. The Big man mentality!

  171. every 1 wants to suceed levy..guys remember third term yakwa chiluba sum were kaming out as if they were nt intrested n they are on chiluba’s side but the time he mentioned levy elo bayamba ukupanga utuma party,,all top MMD members are intrested

  172. And this habit some of us have of accepting mediocrity will not take us anywhere. Things need to change and I don’t see that change coming from the current crop of politicians whose stock in trade is their loud mouths. These political parties require a significant cohort of technocrats in various fields who will be able to advise politicians on the strides we need to take in order to meet the challenges of the 21st Century and this includes an overhaul of our education system so that our children are aware of their civic rights and responsibilities at an early age. It will help them demand more from their leaders right from primary school to adulthood

  173. imwe guys, Sata will be the nxt president of Zed by default! MMD will soon get into a vicious power struggle which will result into 2 factions; true blue luapula supporters and the new dealer’s. Katele will emerge the true blue choice while new dealer’s will go for someone related to the Mwanawasa’s like Shikapwasha. The split will hurt MMD beyond repair and guess what? 2006 runner-up Sata (his weak mutima permitting) will rule Zed with an iron fist & will invite Mugabe to his inauguration @ independence stadium!

  174. kwena katele ni ndosi sana sana, imagine integrating western technology with luapula mediocrity yet this guys has a PhD. sometimes i wonder what goes in his mind. the face looks prudent but mukati yama, buloshi bwekabweka, just thinking eo ala lowa nangu ukupela akafifi so that pipo only see his good side
abena zed techakwesha nangu paliba sweet talk to put this fella in power, we will slump back to the wood age if its there coz i just know of the stone age

  175. This is the price you pay for having political parties built around chaps & not principles. In the US, democrats and republicans have fundamental policy differences and their structures are bigger than any one individual. Now tell me, what is PF without Sata? UPND without Mazoka, UNIP without super Ken? answer is plain & clear, our political set-up is cheap and built around opprtunists & not solid principles!!! new deal MMD was built around Levy & his ‘anti-corruption’ rhetoric, now look where we are, screwed…!

  176. #206,213,220; who was the master behind the third term bid for Chiluba in 2000/2001? Why did Former President Chiluba pick someone else instead of Hon. Sata in 2001 to succeed him?
Do we as Zambians want to go back 20-30-40 yrs behind after we learnt a good lesson from 1991-2001?
Nobacizi abkwesu, please, let us move forward. We do not need any more experiments on who must lead Zambia. The few resources we have mus be channelled to meet our serious needs instead of by-elections of all sorts and bringing back third term bids in future. Politics of the colonial days are over. Lets continue charting our way forward only instead of backwards.

  177. We as Zambians have shafted ourselves in the a$$, this time around…bembas would say, fyakuyi fwayila. We deserve to be in this mess, thanks to our docility!

  178. ba katele you cannot rule Zambia just continue representing people of chiengi with tortoise mouse and lap tops. don’t think that Zambia is only Northern province and luapula, there is Southern, eastern, western, and north western among others.
even they say bembas are the only ones who are supposed to rule Katele cannot do it naimwe lets be serious. lets not take our good country Zambia to the dogs. we need straight leaders.

  179. #227, sorry I just need further information of Dr K. Kalumba. In which field does he (Dr K. Kalumba) have a PhD (Doctor of Philosophy)?

  180. Sata is 71, he had a heart attack months ago, does it make sense for Levy to step down on health grounds and Sata who is sick to take over? Then let Levy continue because we don’t want two early elections in a few years when Sata also has to be replaced. Sata just says popular things people want to hear but once on office it is not easy to do what you said. Remember when MMD came in 91, we believed all the said at least me and people who voted for them. When we talk about education, what I mean is that at least the president must be able to grasp economic and other international trends. If we are not careful we will end up with a cluess president again like FTJ.

  181. my cousin knows, Katele, Chitala and Machungwa from UNZA days, he says there are the sort of people who can do anything to get things their way-bribing, boot licking, betraying other people (look what Chitlaa did to Dean.)
But I also blame Levy and MMD for Katele, how did the man end up with the second most powerful position in MMD? Given his DRC laptop movie script?

  182. Kayombo @#206
Sata was Min of Health & Local Govt & Housing quite ok but it was not him that made the national budget but the Finance Minister who allocated more to his Ministry.Quite ok,Sata is well known for being pushy,he wants to see results but the methods he uses to get those results don’t belong to this day, they are archaic only visible in dictators, dragging people from homes to work & as Minister often standing behind and supervising nurses, cleaners etc only amounted to intimidation.Sata has been in prison for forgery,do u alo remember the MERZAF case and how Sata used mobs to bar certain MMD members from attending party conventions etc,he is ruthless like his idol Mugabe.

  183. #213. Who was the master mind behind Chawama thugs armed with machets and Pangas in 2000/1 who were beating up anyone who was not in favour of the third term bid and other MMD issues then?
Who sponsored call-boys at kulima tower to beat up UNZA students for their (monks and momas) different views on the third term bid in 2000/1?
Isn’t such behaviour what we see on CNN/BBC regarding the alleged Zimbabwe run-off election violence? Do you want someone who called Mugabe to officiate at his failed 2006 election win inauguration celemony? Or someone on record of saying the re-run election in Zim was conducted properly because this is Africa? I will be waiting for objective responses to this post

  184. #232: These are the accademic qualifications of Katele Kalumba

    1. BSc, (University of Zambia, 1978)

    2. MSW (Clinical, Sexual/Alcohol, Washington U, St. Louis, 80)

    3. PhD (Public Health, Behavioral Science, Toront, 1988),

  185. Education should be made relevant to what we need as a country to develop. For example, we should not have a strait jacket approach that prepares our children only for white collar jobs, because lets face it, we all do not have the same mental faculties for the same things. Our friends in the west realised this a long time ago which is why in many of those countries, children are able to assess what kind of contribution they would like to make and hence their classes are tailored around that as early as 10th grade. We need to promote various skills which are required for development

  186. Gentlemen and ladies, as we prepare for 2011 elections or any other, let us make sure we do door-to-door campaigns against people who reduced our speed in the forward direction.
Please, if you have not been in contact with your relatives in the villages, this is time to visit them or contact them and then induct them to vote wisely no-matter what tribe they are.
My former lecture at UNZA once said that our families in villages and neighbours always look upto us when we are educated for advice. Let us reach out to those people and help them vote properly this time around. Let us not wait for the political parties alone to campaign. “This is our moment, this is our time.” – Barrack Obama.

  187. #238. hhehhehhehhe

Well said, that man,a thug cannot be trusted to hold high office, even a fool like Chiluba knows that that is why he used him for him to perform certain dirty duties and when finally they both failed in the 3rd term bid Sata was abandoned,Chiluba knew MMD would be gone with Sata as President so he picked someone else,Levy and Sata freaked off because he knew Levy had not forgotten about his corruption and bully behaviiour which led to Levy quitting as Veep.

  188. Great stuff #243.
This time ni door-to-door. We can not let Zambia go backwards. Some of us want to see the development we have noted in other powerful countries come to every Zambian.
There is no need for experiements brothers and sisters. We tested Hon. Sata in various capacities from Minister without Portfolio, Minister of local government to Minister of Health. What did he fail to do then that he thinks he can do now or in the future.
Let us start contacting our relatives and former classmates, please LT bloggers over this serious National issue.

  189. Presiedntial material, difficult to say. What Zambia has is an economic problem. We need someone with economical prudence.Surprisingly Zambia is never short of such people.Reading through profiles in the Post and other papers for the past 10 years these individuals are plenty.A uneducated nicompoop will definitely not do,time for sloganeering Politics seem to be over.Magande is alright though seem more of a Professional person than a politician he has to shade off that first, out side the box they are many others,Civil service,Private Companies,Retirees,Opposition parties, business men?what do Zambians think?enjoying this definitely.Still wish Levy well.

  190. teta was poached from upnd because his got a big mouth can we still trust his big mouth!!!!!!!!! lets think twice he maybe among the fools he is blaming

  191. can we please identify the qualities for a presidential candidate instead of comparing wrong pipo so that we can base our arguments on those same qualities we identify………

  192. Teta cant make it, he has already shown his management inadequacies. Although he is right to talk about leadership needs, his timing nad continued press statements caould breed anarchy so administratively he is weak

  193. JACOB ZUMA HAS STACKS AND STACKS OF COURT CASES BUT HE WILL BE PRESIDENT NEXT YEAR SO KATELE KALUMBA HAS TAKEN A CUE FROM THE BIG MAN . THIS IS AFRICA ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE

  194. #249: I totally agree with you. After all the criteria is “”You are innocent untill proven guity”

  195. #249. You are a thinker with both feet on the ground. 360 degrees view. Some guys and dolls just think forward and backwards. They either fail or overlook to think sideways, diagonally vertically etc. Some undersestimate what is at stake and lack force field analysis

  196. Possession of a degree does not guarantee one’s capacity to deliver neither should it be made a minimum requirement. A good education on the other hand is a necessity for anyone aspiring to the highest office in the land. It is also important to establish that one can only succeed as part of a group of quality leaders. A highly qualified president with a team lacking in quality will not achieve anything. Further, examples abound of leaders that have degrees with a good grasp of economic affairs but cannot strike a note with the people they lead e.g. Mbeki. There must be a balance.

  197. Bank Governor, Caleb Fundanga said the country has over $1 billion in reserves.

He said this is enough to cover any foreign exchange withdrawals by investors, who may be uncertain with President Mwanawasa’s illness.

$1 billion….!!!!! with this kind of money we have no basic roads no thing!!!!! more especially in Chingola whre the copper is comming from!!!! you sit and wonder where we are going.!!!!!!

  198. MMD Top 5;

    1. President – Levy Mwanawasa
    2. Vice President – post “frozen” to a later date at last convention, not abolished as some purport. This was due to corrupt acts by the candidates (i.e. Lupndo Mwape, Bwalya Chiti, GBM, Elias Mpondela etc)
    3. National Chairman – Michael Mabenga
    4. Vice National Chairman – Kabinga Pande
    5. National Secretary – Katele Kalumba

  199. #97 I can assure that a law forbidding the appointment of relatives to positions in govt can never see the light of day! It is at most just a dream. More seriously that would be an infringement on a person’s rights and liberties that we ought to promote and protect. There is nothing wrong with appointing a relative so long as they are best qualified for that particular job. It becomes wrong if there are people better placed. As an example,in 1961, US President John F. Kennedy appointed his brother Robert as Attorney General and he performed his job with honour.

  200. 249, 250. South Africa is on the way to become just another African country especially if Zuma takes over. What more evidence do you need to show that Zuma has no principles and not fit to govern. But I don’t blame the South Africans, thet are newly independent as majority rule, they will regret later. But us Zambians we know the consequences of having people like Zuma, Katele and Chiluba as leaders. Once beaten, twice shy.

  201. Chief, could you outline Mbeki’s failures? As far as I am concerned he has done well. The Zimbabwe issue is no basis to judge him. No one had the guts to condemn Mugabe until recently. South Africans are headed for a serious problem with Zuma.

  202. Tetamashimba and Mwanawasa Family Tree

Zambians watch out for Tetamashimba. This Tetamashimba is up to no good he doesn’t give a damn about the starving Zambian masses or developing Zambia. He is interested in taking care of his stomach and his families’ stomachs. He is no hero as some of you are trying to paint this fool. This Tetamashimba dude is a danger to our country. Tetamashimba wants the Mwanawasa family tree to take over from Levy. He is Mwanawasa’s puppet and boot-licker don’t forget that.

He will do and say anything to manipulate the dull and stupid Zambian masses in to believing that he cares for Zambia and it’s people blah blah blah.

  203. It’s easy to manipulate Zambians. Wake up Zambians if we are not careful we will end with Maureen or a family tree at State House. We don’t want Maureen, Mwanawasa family tree or Katele Kalumba at State House period. Mwanawasa or his family tree don’t own Zambia.

  204. MMD is cracking. they will fight each other till the bitter end. by the time the realise thta they have to get down to work, they wolud have left Office.LPM deserves a better than replacement than Katele and his bunch of thieves.

  205. Siti funa bakawalala, we don’t want thiefs? Basakala panse! lets try other provinces coz in future Zed will be like Ruanda. Remember the Mushala issue, with oil come wealth n oppression, then …………….. God forbid

  206. #262, the the way to go is HH. If you want anothe by election in state house soon, vote for SATA and be rest assured of by elections again for the President. HH has what it takes and is already on the groung, mind you, elections are in four months time!!

  207. TK1, you are really a fun of HH heh, anyway, i agree with you this time around, HH is the only available option and has seems to have his house in order.Zambians lets open our eyes or we shall forever be having a sower deal of leadership. this is the time to corecct the mess we have found ourselves in.

  208. I will blame the chief justice if anything goes wrong in the country and if he doesn’t act in time.it is alright that Katele and Teta have presidential ambitions, they can fight if they want but the constitution should be respected first and like their predecessors, they can take their fights to the mmd convention and do what they think they need to do to take over the Mmd.
but for you and i, we need the chief justice to step in as the law allows him to do so.
we need a petition to write the chief justice to avoid a constitutional crisis and do what the law says.look out for an online petition soon.

  209. #269 viva, indeed we need to move on this, LPM will not come back as president. we need a decision now, and will sign the petition. when is it coming….!!!!!!!!!!!!

  210. #239 and 255 have presented different data on the (Dr) in Dr Katele Kalumba. Can someone give me more details on which PhD (Doctor of Philosophy) or DPhil does Katele Kalumba have? Please, I need this data?

  211. Academic Qualifications: PhD (Public Health, Behavioral Science, Toront, 1988), MSW (Clinical, Sexual/Alcohol, Washington U, St. Louis, 80) BS, (Un. of Zambia, 1978).

  212. 249 You are a stupid dumb ass individual, if zuma takes over in RSA does it justify another thief like katele to be a president in zambia as well ? Think or i will come and kick your silly ass ! Ha ha !!
