Katanga Province Governor, Moses Katumbi says he supports calls for the Chembe bridge to be named after President Levy Mwanawasa.
Mr. Katumbi has commended the Zambian leader for his initiative to put up a bridge at Chembe between Zambia and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
He also said he has sanctioned the Zambian government to tar the pedicle road.
Mr. Katumbi says his tour of the road and Chembe Bridge is a demonstration of his country’s commitment to working with the Zambian government on various aspects of development.
He was speaking in an interview with Journalists shortly after a delegation meeting between the Zambian and Congolese authorities.
And Works and Supply Deputy Minister, Mundia Ndalamei commended the DRC governor for allowing the Zambian government to tar the pedicle road.
Mr. Ndalamei disclosed that issues that have been discussed with Congolese authorities will be tabled before the Zambian government before entering a Memorandum of Understanding.

Congo DR is a modeled after the American system. A governor is similar to head of state in both Congo DR and USA. The only deference is that a USA Governor seems more powerful because of abundant financial and human resources. Both Governors are however not entailed to get involved in Military and Foreign Policies.In the case of Katumbi and Provincial minister they comments on foreign policy as a members of the Congo-Zambia Joint Commission.

Sweet Mother is actually right. DRC functions on more of a Federation just like the USA does. A governor of a province cannot be replaced by the central government. Katumbi therefore is the Executive head of Katanga, and his cabinet looks into Katangese affairs. The only issues the governor can’t work on are military and foreign affairs in as much they have to do with DRC as a nation, but if the issues have to do only with Katanga the Governor does have authority. A model we can adopt in Zambia as well.

As much as I subscribe to free speech and democracy, I strongly feel that people should be able to discuss issues with reason. Zambia has many issues that need discussing including tribalism. Such should however be discussed rationally so that we can project progressiveness. We should not use this forum and others like it to expose our buffoonery and foolishness at the expense of people who desire meanful dialogue and discourse.
Katangese should not be demonised. DRC is probably the only country Zambia has a surplus trade position/balance with in its favour. Needless to say the trade balance with the rest of the SADC region is negative to our disadvantage. Economics and trade is where our future lies and that means expoliting viable markets. Forget about exporting to Bots, RSA and very soon Zim. Tanzania has deeply eaten away Zambia market share due to the decline in manufacturing on the Copperbelt. Instead of working to reclaim the market share insults and isms are the order of the day. Use your brains creatively;for better things.

We share the longest border line with DRC. I think logic dictates that we do more trade with DRC. Due to the length of the borderline Congelese and Zambians have more routes to access each others markets. Economies of provinces like Luapula, Northwestern and indeed the Copperbelt are highly related to the Congolese market. If Congo is an evil, then its an evil we canot do without.

People with an inferiority complex always find a way of bringing other people down.If it is not the skin colour then it’s where you come from or whether one is a woman or man.I personally don’t believe in bring other people down for me to feel important.I am important without any mention of any tribe.
There is no such thing as a more superior tribe.
