Church and Govt should partner-Mrs. Mwanawasa

Share

First Lady Maureen Mwanawasa says the church should combine efforts with government and other stakeholders to respond to some of the challenges and needs of people in communities.

Mrs. Mwanawasa said the church has a challenge to respond to issues of HIV and the associated stigma through the provision of support and encouragement to the infected people.

The first lady who expressed sadness at the stigmatization of the infected people said the vice has lead to such people to painfully die in denial.
Mrs. Mwanawasa made the remarks in a speech read on her behalf by Wife of the Vice President Thandiwe Banda during the Fundraising Luncheon organised by the Chelston Reformed Church in Zambia (RCZ).

She commended the church for its continued effort support to the development process of the country.

The church has been supplementing government’s efforts through its support in the education and health sectors.

At the same function, Reverend Moses Mwale said the church was engaged in programmes that directly benefit the needy in the community.

He revealed the RCZ has partnered with many organisations that are assisting the church to provide home based care services to the HIV patients.

  1. Bravo Mrs Mwanawasa for encouraging those churches that do nothing about the Hiv pandemic and any other related diseases,Catholic,SDA continue the good job,JAH BLESS

  2. I SUPPORT THAT BUT PLZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ DONT EVEN THINK OF ALLOWING “DUNAMIS CHRISTIAN CENTERE” IN POLITICAL ISSUES COZ THERE LEADER CHI WELEWELE

  3. Ala Mrs Banda has also started the fake speenches like bamadala ba RB. It is true when they say these things do run in the family hey??

  4. How dumb can some of you be? Do you always have to find a fault in people? It doesen’t take a genius to know that the president/president’s wife’s diaries are planned way before an event. That’s how Mrs.Mwanawasa was able to plan for the event and draw up a speech. She does not have a life like yours where everything comes an happens sponataneuosly. Her diary is probably filled up to 2009

  5. let me kachepa, i heard from a close relative of mine, Chituwo was saying that LPM is heavily sedated and even Maureen herself can only see him thru a glass window, this was being discussed among some close government officials at Parliament. and i hear they are waiting for the 3 months to be up, so that we can have elections, meantime RB get’s to run the country and earn a salary, but ba LPM is very sick, he i snot coming back the same.

  6. You guy are behaving like we still in the 50’s. The First ladies have secretaries and advices who can write the speeches on their behalf. Or are telling me Mauren has no access to internent? That is why there is delegation of duties. What is important is what was read out: was it useful or not? Why kick about the bush as if we have nothing else to do?

  7. There’s nothing wrong for RB’s wife to read this speech on Maureen’s behalf. The content of the speech is also very sensible because these same churches have contributed to the stigma & ignorance regarding HIV/AIDS. My only criticism is that Maureen is trying to use tired PR tactics to try and get our minds off Levy’s situation & buy as much time as possible. As I mentioned before, 3 months max. & patience will run out in Zed, we can’t afford to be in limbo for up to 6 months while ‘praying’ that Levy wakes up? Let’s face this critical situation NOW so that we prevent futher chaos in the future. I doubt if RB & his team have the ball$ to ask the Chief Justice to declare Levy unfit?

  8. Guyz these people are going to keep levy in that glass bottle or bed whatever we may call it so that they can secure their nchitoz, but facts are facts Zambia will not be led by Levy,no wonder they are able to increase their salaries as much as they can, kudyelapo thats what is in their heads, shame

  9. Truly our first lady keeps a diary, and she is also reminded by her secretary or advice who informs her of upcoming events. The question that #2 and #8 are raising does not merit a further discussion our leaders can manage themselves when it comes to meetings and speaking engagements. Consult some newspapers and you will see how well people plan there speeches.

  10. While some speeches may indeed be written months in advance, the prevailing circumstances should also curtail some of those speeches ! In the current circumstances, with her husband so sick, Mrs RB could have written a speech herself and made mention of the fact that she was just filling in for Mrs LPM. I mean how hard can it be to put together a speech on how the Govt and Church should work together !?!?!!

I would also like to commend the churches that are out there working and helping the poor, hospital and prison visitations and so on. Keep up the good work !!!

  11. OKAY, FELLOW BLOGGERS, THIS IS OFF THE TOPIC AT HAND BUT MY QUESTION IS; IS TRACHEOTOMY A REVERSIBLE OPERATION OR NOT? COZ I HEAR THEY PUT A SMALL TUBE ON THE MKOLOMINO OF LPM TO AID HIM BREATHE. NOMBA CAN THIS THING BE REMOVED WITHOUT CAUSING LOSS OF THE VOICE? NGA FWENIKO BA SHING’ANGA BA BANTU.

  12. Another imposterr just like her husband…what’s wrong with you chaps?can’t you tailor the speech according to your language and no one would ask why you are representing Maureen coz we all know she’s mourning in Paris!

  13. Mrs Chuchu must just enjoy staying at five star flat while it last and I am would she would like to it go on for ever, but remember God’s time is not yours madam.

  14. #13 and 15. Mrs Banda was just representing the First Lady as Guest of Honour. She was not the actual Guest. In such cases therefore, protocol demands that she speaks on behalf of the person initially invited. It is no mystery at all.

  15. Let us not talk about history, what on behalf is this, the church is there to unite people not to control deseases.eeeyee!

  16. Ba politician baku zambia twanaka nenwe!!!!!!!!!!!!…All u care about are yourselves forgetting the people that put u in power. Hefty pay, big fat belly and grey hair full of nothing but amenshi… Muchinje!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  17. from thez bolgs one can tell just how deverse our views r. I only pray no oportunist comes into the mix of things. Its very easy for things 2 go o wrong just like that. We have a lot of examples in the region and the world at large…God bless mother zambia…

  18. THANKS FOR THE CRITISIM, BUT WORK AS TO TO CONTINUE WITH OR WITHOUT THE PERSON IN PICTURE. LIKE OTHERS HAVE SAID THE FIRST LADY HAS A DAIRLY AND ALL WHAT IS DONE NOW IS DELEGATION OF DUTIES.
MIND YOU SICKNESS DOES NOT CHOSE IT CAN EVEN AFFECT YOU. SO LET US NOT DISCUSS SOMEONE’S SICKNESS GOD WORKS AT HIS OWN TIME TOMORROW IT MIGHT BE YOU. PLEASE THE PRESIDENT NEEDS PRIVACY LIKE YOU TOO NEED PRIVACY.

  19. Lets stop the issue of braging against the PRESIDENT H.E LEVY P MWANAWASA, SC, sickness but let us come up with a strategy on how we are going to combat the raising of fuel, food, transport and other comodities in our country. Together we can even stop the herty salaries by collegues in government, than discussing the sickness of an individual noone would wish him/her self sickness mind you GOD IS SEEING YOU.
Lets not be good for nothing zambians.

  20. I think its in our best interest to first bury our late great president. Only then can we decide who takes power. Lets not conclude on maureen or mrs.banda. I think it doesnt matter the next president so much because parliament is secure. On tribalism plz
