Do not use domestic power on heavy appliances

Share

Mandevu Member of Parliament (MP) Jean Kapata has urged residents in her constituency to desist from using domestic power supply for industrial activities.

Mrs. Kapata noted that the usage by resident of domestic power for industrial purposes was also contributing to power failures being experienced in the area.

The area Mp advised residents in her constituency to report people engaged in such activities.

She told ZANIS in an interview that people that need more power should need to apply to Zesco.

Yesterday, Ms Kapata had engaged some ZESCO management officials in discussion with the residents on the power out rages .

Zesco Public relations manager Monica Chisela assured the residents that the power outages would reduce once rehabilitation works are completed.

On going rehabilitation works at the Kafue gorge power station are expected to be completed by December this year while those at Kariba power station would be completed march next year.

Ms. Chisela however revealed that Zesco through its partner Egyptian company Ecolec has received 10,000 pre pared meters that expected to be installed before the end of this year .

  6. Bane Zesco should not justify their power cuts on hair saloon dryers in Mandevu,we all know thats not the reason,Mandevu is not an industrious compound in the country.

  10. #15 ok relax…actually #6 (nabalengu) is a lady. So be Zambian and show restraint mudala naiwe. Statistics ka?

  11. Yes ba kapata very right, please tell ZESCO to also speed up application for power in time that is why we sometimes connect our welding machines to out sockets because power is not connected on time.

  12. Is this “10,000 pre pared meters” supposed to “PRE-PAID” LT.

Zesco should managers should start thinkin out-of-the-box. Why should an ordinary Zambian care what appliances to use because zesco said so.They can introduce rewards in form of rebates when someone installs good power concerving products.Like I put in solar geyser, which by the way saves over 40% power use, they give me a rebate from my bill, This will encourage pipo to start saving power.Another would be to open zesco shops, sell power saving products like bulbs, heaters, etc at lower price. What do think guys? Am I dreaming …?

  13. #21 There’s been talk of ZESCO importing energy saving bulbs and selling them at cheap prices to the consumers but this hasn’t materialised yet. Those are very valid points you hve put across.

  14. I think the problem is that for a long time we have operated our small scale industries from our homes without regard for any legislation. Otherwise, every home where an industry is located would be billed at commercial rates. If we can register all of these businesses in the communities, it would help to among other things widen the tax base and open up new sources of revenue for the Govt.

  15. #18 My apologies kuli nabalengu. I wasn’t aware ati niba Lady. We were taught to respect abanakashi. Epo mpelele!!Without those small scale industries, alot of people have no source of income. People that were dumped onto the streets by the cruel hand of privatization are running these small scale industries, eg hammermills, salad manufacturing, brick-making plants in the heart of Madevu and other outlying compounds. Now, without providing any alternatives, you want to go back and kick them in the butt? The businesses are just breaking even. There’s no significant tax base out there#23

  16. Hey guys, can u pliz update me on the loadshedding. When is it likely to finish? Coz it’s like kuno mwesu mutatakuya, there has been no change.

  17. # 21, you are right.ZESCO must introduce incentives for people who save power. The first step is the installation of pre-paid metres. In my area and a good number of other areas, people a paying a fixed charge which is exhorbitantly high e.g. K200,000 per month! There is no way one will think of using less power – there’s simply no motivation to save power.

  18. kanti kini mina manyukunyuku, lukalile kale kumibulelela kuli mutuhele kuitusisa sishobo samina fa,muutwela kai, cwale mwanyela,na kala kuitusisa mishobo yemusautwi,ya nyema anyeme

  19. # 27 We don’t understand a sh.. of what you’re saying, except for that derogatory term of Manyukunyuku. I don’t believe that you are a true Lozi because you would know better than to go that route on this forum. Don’t get us started!! We want to discuss issues stimulate the mind.
