Nigeria pledges support to Zambia’s development

Share

The Nigerian government has pledged continued support to the Zambian government through various areas of national development.

Nigerian High Commissioner to Zambia, Folake Bello, says her government remains committed to supporting the Zambian government in advancing the country’s social and political development agenda.

Ms Bello was speaking in Lusaka today at celebrations to mark that country’s National Day.

Ms Bello said her government will continue putting in place extra remedial measures aimed at improving the social and economic sectors of other countries in Africa such as Zambia.

She cited the opening –up of the Access Development Bank as some of the measures that her government will continue implementing in an effort to help other countries improve the living standards of people in their respective countries.

Speaking earlier, Commerce, Trade and Industry Minister, Felix Mutati, commended the Nigerian government for its continued support to Zambia.

Mr Mutati said the Nigerian government’s support to Zambia has helped propel Zambia’s investment portfolios to greater heights.

Mr Mutati, further, disclosed that the Nigerian business community was in the process of investing over US$2 billion into Zambia’s national economy in the next two years.

The Commerce Minister has since challenged other countries in the region to take advantage of conducive business environment in Zambia to invest in various sectors of the country’s economy.

  1. What support can Nigeria offer to Zambia. They should first off all support themselves before coming to Zambia.

Ohhhh, I see, They mean supporting us in the Film Making Industry, what do you think guys?

Coz these chaps are croocks, and there is nothing they can offer.

  2. Let’s wait and see. But that would be the day when Nigeria came to Zambia’s aid….I mean they have such a big log in their eyes…one even wonders how it is even possible for them to see.

  3. These manais have nothing to do.How are they going to support Zambia when half of the population is scattered all over the world?
Mutati will get the shock of his life when he wakes up one day only to find that all the govt funds have been syphoned to Abuja?

  4. if you think Bembas steal then you are mistaken if you compare them to these yorubas and hausa/fulani people. You will wake up with zambia being a colony of Nigeria and his royal highness chief olo-obasanjo-babangida-yaradua as the almighty over-lord

In Bemba, they say “baaya sana.” Indeed these Bemba-Tribalists baaya sana (have gone too much – in literal translation).
    To the Zambian people:
Ngoyu genteremani, HH (Here is the gentleman, HH)

Ngooyu genteremani wacinicini, HH. (Here is the gentleman who is real, HH)

Vote for the UPND’s HH for a real ray of change and hope that all Zambians can believe and trust in.

Let us give the Nigerians a chance to prove themselves. in fact, instead of critising them, let us take a leaf from their well-meaning initiative in the sense of emulating their (Nigerians’) strategy of investing both at home and elsewhere.

  7. I feel so sad to read such kind of negative remarks from bloggers.
I don’t know whether some poeple choose to be ignorant even when they can use computers. It is very easy to research & from the quick research i have done,i have checked that Nigeria is about 50 steps ahead of Zambia on the list of the world Gross domestic product which means they do so much better than than Zambia, even Ethiopia is ahead of Zambia.GDP is used to measure the health of a country’s economy,it’s not the surroundings or where the country’s people are that measures an economy,Nigeria is ahead of us period so we have a lot to learn from Nigeria & other african nations with better economies than ours.

#10 I will agree with you, let us give them a chance, but they must not just run this way because they think we have oil, if they wanna help us, let them see and explore our oil potency

#11 have you read the book “things fall apart”. Nigeria has billions of dollars in oil controlled only by 4 sets of hands. Abacha, babangida and Obasanjo X2. Meet any Nigerian and they will tell you that the SAP doesnt work in there country.

  10. FORGET ABOUT THESE NIGERIANS ,THEY ‘LL BRING MORE HARM THAN GOOD TO MOTHER ZED.THEY CAN’T EVEN BE UNITED IN THIER OWN BACKYARDS.TRY THEM AND SEE HOW THE MONEY WILL VANISH IN ZED’S BANKS.I GUESS,I SHOULD SAFE GUARD MINE ELSEWHERE.

  11. Please no!!!!!!!! I am married to a Nigerian – everything is ‘fishy”. They are so crooked. I don’t even know his real name, and I aint kidding.

  12. First it was the Senegal nationals with their 1 Tonner motor vehicles on the copperbelt in the 80/90s (hope we zambians have not forgotten how what women/sisters/mothers were subjected to),and now the Nigerian investment (NIGERIA!!). Has the Zambian Government run into a rut? How could we sink so low as Zambians in the name of attracting foreign investment?? Is the Nigerian investment going to improve any zambian livelihood?? Why is the Zambian government inviting traders instead of manufacturers?? This is stupid (silly), sheepish and lacking foresight on the part of the Zambian government.

  13. I feel so sorry for us africans. we can never support each other in anything. when we read about the chinese and the indians investing in zambia, people were commending the government and saying all sorts of wonderful things. now a fellow african country wants to work with us and all have is negativity. as bad as the nigerians may be, we need to be looking at working together as a continent, and helping ourselves as africans rather than always allowing outsiders controlling our economy. if you ever believed in kwame nkruma’s dream of a united states of africa, then instead of focusing on the negative side, then we need to look at ways to work with them whilst

  14. safeguarding ourselves. africa is the only continent that does not need to import from outside due to its vast and rich resources. time and time again, we keep failing ourselves because we only trust the west or anyone of lighter shade of skin. ITS SAD

  15. No wonder they say ‘Not to teach old dogs new tricks’. The west (Developed Countries) are telling you, the Zambian government to sell your country in the name of privatisation whilst them are doing the opposite by nationalising most of the their companies which are not performing. You have sold the mines, yet they have kept theirs; you were advised to sell council housing units, they have not; you are encouraged to welcome any foreign investment but they cannot without one meeting set criterias; they are always prompting you to sell Zamtel but they have kept their telecommunication; you have privatised the railways, road and air transport but they have not but invited stakeholders.

  16. NIGERIANS ARE CROOKS, YES! BUT, THEY ARE HARD-WORKING, FOCUSED, AND MOST OF ALL, BUSINESS-ORIENTED. BUSINESS ORIENTATION (OR BUSINESS MINDED) IS A SERIOUS DEFICIENCY IN ALL ZAMBIANS. MOST OF THE BUSINESSES BY BLACKS OVERSEAS ARE NIGERIAN OWNED.

  17. Fellow Zambian Nai..Nai…all my God! big time scammers…! invest in zambia…my foot? all they want is to learn the way our system works in zambia and hit us at the appropriate time. Nigerian ministers steal budget allocations and disapper? they know that zambia has weak laws? katutu was able to swindle us millions for soldeirs uniform, carington maize scandal, name it! they have placed their bet on the right nation as we zambians are so stupid and docile? here we have peter the nigerian severant praising them? wake up people…nai nai can sell their mothers kidneys for a quick buck? who ever brought them shall be held responsible….ba minister….fortune seekers?

  18. Am sure Princes,London if you live in the UK as I do, you must have seen, read and understant what investment is all about.

  19. There must be investment priorities in sectors like mining, agricuture, water and sanitation, health, education, hydro, telecom to name but a few. The government being a ‘very’ understanding one should put the Zambian first before any investment.

  20. For you guys who are successful what it means: the achievement of something planned or attempted
    – attainment of fame, wealth, or power: impressive achievement, especially the attainment of fame, wealth, or power
    – something that turns out well: something that turns out as planned or intended

  21. #24 i responded to your comment but LT have witheld it and it wasn’t even rude. naya muku lala kanshi, good nite

  22. Not even their nighbours like ghanaians trust them. 3/4rs of their more then 100 unis are dedicated to courses involving money matters. Very few engineering courses.

As # 25 says there must be priorites in investment. Not inviting traders. This MMD GRZ is corrupt. What can a Nigerian do apart from fraud and hoodwinking the DEA.
Some one above mentioned nigerias GDP, those pipo are the 4th largest producer of oil, but look at their country, no industries to mention.

  23. WATCH OUT…EVER HEARD OF 419…….WHATS WRONG WITH OUR LEADERS
ARE YOU SURE NIGERIA WANTS TO COME TO OUR AID…..THOSE ARE BIG TIME SCAMMERS BY THE TIME FINANCE MINISTER KNOWS WHATS HAPPENING THEY WILL BE LAUGHING ALL THE WAY TO THE BANK WITH ALL OUR DOLLARS COME ON COME TO YOUR SENCES….COBRA FOR PRSIDENT

  24. Some of the comments on this site, make me wonder if majority of you guys are educated as in College degree level!

  25. A typical display of ignorance, Xenophobia and colonial mentality by Africans. Zambia is dirt poor and has a corruption score of 2.8 while Nigeria is 2.7 (pretty much the same level of corruption) on the international corruption index. Nigeria is Africa’s largest market. Zambia is one of Africa’s Smallest economies. nigeria’s daily oil earnings exceed Zambia’s yearly earnings from all sectors including tourism and copper

  26. #11, it is good that you researched the GDP of Nigeria and purely natural economics, Nigeria is way above Zambia, but people are questioning what has the GDP done for the people of Nigeria? I am sure you are aware of the problem of the Niger Delta, simply put the GDP is not seen in the delta, and of course the Urban poverty of Nigeria’s biggest cities i.e. Lagos and Abuja are well researched facts. Numbers on paper do not necessarily translate into real and meaningful human existence. What people are saying is Nigeria put your house in order, or at least reasonably in order. (I won’t mention all those guys who ant to partner with me in a hundred schemes to take billions of naira out Nige

  27. This forum is full of pessimists. You guys have to understand that Negeria’s econamy is far much stronger than ours. You all know that water runs downstream and not the other way round. The guys did not promise to run the economy for us.Thats our job.So if we can check them like anyother investors they won’t pause any threats whatsover.Wait and see zambia become the heart of africa.Viva Mutati,Magande and Fundanga.

  28. MM, we are taking of street smart and not book smart? Nigerians posses both! Zambia should brace for the largest 419 scam! Nigerians shall run our BOZ dry and we shall take mutati to task. Can Nkole with his political task please intervene!

  29. JUST WHEN I WAS SUPPOSED TO BE GETTING THE PRIDE OF MY MY COUNTRY BACK, I COULDN’T. YOU KNOW WHY, ALLOWING THE NIGERIANS TO BE PART OF THE ZED ECONOMY IS A VERY VERY VERY GRAVE MISTAKE. I STAY AWAY FROM THESES HUMANS HERE IN THE STATES. THEY DON’T THINK OF FRIENDSHIP, HOW THEY GONNE RIP YOU OF IN ANY WAY. THEY SCARED OF ME COZ AM FROM CB.

  30. #33. Okonkwo
If nigeria is so rich how come we have millions of Nigerian economic refugees ? Even in dirt poor Zambia we ahve too many of them. India and china, if you divide thier daily export earnings by the populations , are indeed Very poor compared to nigeria. What goods are manufactured in Nigeria ?
Its all about track record, proven ability.
We might as well invite somali warlords to invest in our police.

  31. How does a blind man lead a blind man. Let us go back to Russia or stick to china. Negria has its own issuea how can they solve ours? South Africa Yes!
    This is abomination!

  32. Guys, one of the biggest investors in Zambia right now is Nigerian. Trust me, only thing I worry about is the security of our country.

  33. nigerians are croocks. everyone fears them down.. bringing nigerians to zed then you’re asking for more drugs, more money laundering, more guns on our streets………pliz keep nigerians away

  34. The problem with the Zambian government is that, they do not listen to what the Zambians are saying regarding such investments until it is too late.

  35. #46 No!The problem is some Zambian citizens whose reasoning is below par.Nigerians investing in the banking sector in Zambia doesn’t mean they will steal all the money there is in Zambia & go home.In Every country there is a Central bank, they have controls & systems put in place to monitor banking operations so the Nigerian Bank that has come to Zambia will have to follow those rules.Nigeria has Banks around the world, even ZANACO had a Branch in the UK except it was closed by the Zed govt shortly before UK Central Bank was gonna close it due to the Chiluba money laundering issues,ZANACO depositors & govt would have lost out.Pipo,Nigerians have not come to run our country for heaven’s sake!

  36. Finance Bank of Zambia is opening a branch in Lubumbashi so are you saying Mahtani will take over Moses Katumbi’s powers & run his State,no,the Congolese Central bank will monitor Finance Bank & won’t let Mahtani run his bank his way but the Congolese way otherwise his Bank will be closed & who is gonna lose apart from the depositors.
Someone above was talking about the Nigeria’s GDP issue i raised, well,it’s not only on paper,it’s a true measurement of an economy across the globe. It is up to the Nigerian govt to make good use of the money they get from exports, they have the money but it is bad governance & corruption that causes them not to share resources equally to all states of Nigeria.

  37. #38(shushushu): “If nigeria is so rich how come we have millions of Nigerian economic refugees ?” I guess your comments expose your myopic perceptions of reality. Nigerian economic refugees in Zambia??? you make me laugh. Because Zambians have no Business IQ and can not take advantage of global business opportunities without hoping that their Colonial masters will come and provide them some nshima, doesnt make a Legitimate Nigerian business man in Zambia (not a 419) an economic refugee. The Economy and population of Lagos alone matches exceeds that of the whole of Zambia. Nigerians may be poor due to bad Governance but they are not starving. Zambia is starving.

  38. Iwe ka Asamoa #49 shut up. The last people one would ever want to invite are Nigerians. Shut your gob. Nigeria is a very good example of Africa. Very rich in almost everything yet you find very poor people around. They would do anything to get rich.

  39. IWE!!! Ka Tona #50 Please show me a country in the world which is rich in everything but has no poverty. Is it the UK??, America,India or China???. You said the Nigerians will do anything to get Rich. So what is Zambia doing to get rich????. You need to wake up and smell the roses. This inferiority complex, timidness, myopia, xenophobia and extremely jaundiced perception of Nigeria or other African countries is like a Cancer in Africa. “The last people we want to invite is the Nigerians” (laugh). Please invite more Muzungu, Indians and chinese (who you worship) to save you. I dont know why africans are so dumb. You have nothing to offer anyway. He who is down needs fear no fall:)

  40. The only thing Zambians can learn from Nigerians is real African pride, i.e. how to adopt our own dinstinctive Zambian fashion, music, lifestyle etc. and successfully market it abroad.

  41. #50 you say Nigerians will do anything to make money and I laugh at you for saying that. Capitalism is ABOUT making money! That Nigerians are far more competitive than we Zambians are is a compliment to them- it is competition that creates vibrant markets. You can’t generalize and say all Nigerians are drug dealers or such-and-such because there are many successful legitimate Nigerian enterpreneurs. Nigeria’s economy is in much better shape than ours- if they were to sort out corruption and inter-state conflict they would be one of the fast growing economies.

  42. stay away from the nigerian bank. Nigerians will tell our ladies that they are not married and yet they have wives in nigeria. they do this all over the world in order to find a way to get residence in these countries. then they leave their so called new wives and bring in their nigerian wives or move to another country.

  43. #51 Ka Asamoa I like your determination to use big words. You mug look, there is poverty in the UK alright but can it be compaired to the levels you find in Nigeria? I hate wums like you because at the end of the day you are the ones who think because I am rich everything is OK.

You complain about load shedding in Zed, go to Nigeria you muppet that is where you will find load shedding. In the mean time there are compounds which do not experience any. Like I said, do not just open your gob. Corruption? Kidnappings are normal now. What are you going to learn from them?

As for you Skeptic #54 read your post again and you will get answers.

  44. #48 Zeddy if you live in London you would know why people are expressing such fears.Ask the Nigerians themselves they will tell you. They know how to infiltrate a nation and they can do anything for money. You wont even know the real name of the investor you are inviting in our country.
Saudis don’t even want to see any Nigerian on their soil because they can’t trust them.
Okwonko how many Zambian economic refugees have you seen in Nigeria? But you have a look at the number of Nigerians flocking to Zambia.

  45. #57 Good points.
How these Nigerians risk their lives crossing the Meteranean sea in a small boat bundled up like sardines to get to the UK is unbelievable.

  46. #55
419 is a section in the Nigerian law concerning fraud. Most of these so called Nigerian businessmen are into it.It can be invading your computer using some device to get your details to having connections in the bank who give them details of other people.

  47. #57 Ka Tona: Ka Tona your fits of verbal diarrhoea absolutely amaze me (haha). You can call me a “mug”, a “wum”, a “Gob” and any combination of 3 letter words you like. Obviously what you lack in intellectual capacity, is replaced with the funniest combination of 3 letter insults I have ever heard (chuckle). Perhaps you could export some of your exclusively flowery language/culture across Africa (some tips: good morning mug, I love you too Gob, oh could I have a quick Wum with my nshima?) :0)

  48. #58 Spot on mate. This is the reason they have started using Zambian passports to live in South Africa. They would do anything to get rich. Open the door for them and my God! We know some of them are evn sponsored by very rich businessmen. Please God we may be desperate but the last people we want to come into our country are Nigerians.

People have complained about utu choncholi, I wonder what they would say if we opened the door for Nigerians.

Ka Asamoa it`s not as if we do not have them in the country illegaly any way. And, knowing how fragile we are! 50 pin in Zed will be more than enough to get them passports. Blimey!

  49. 47 what do you know..what happened to prodence bank how much money disppeared in the inferno? hallloooo..wake travel to nigeria and you will know what we are talking about…you cant trust a nigerian they are crooks period!hope the post can give us more info surrounding these nigerian bank.

  50. #67 Got you were I wanted! Aha! I know the kind of person I am dealing with now. An “intellectual”. Look at your post (#49). Full of nothing but insults to Zamabians.

Did you get your qualifications from Nigeria? Anything is possible in Nigeria. I know it happens in my country but Nigeria? My “Arsenal”!

  51. Zambians have too much Aids. Nigerians should not bother Investing there. Wait for them to all die off first and get eaten by Hyenas. Ghana is not rich but is 20 times better than Zambia.

  52. #66 Got you where I wanted. Easy to see the kind of person you are dealing with. Easily running away from facts. Easy option lol! What a wum? Oh sorry!

Look at post #49 where you have nsulted Zambians. Call yourself an intellectuall? Blimey!

  53. Can anyone, name anything Zambians are Famous for apart from HIV and starvation? At least Nigerians are Corrupt, industrious, Adventurous intelligent, Fast, strong, handsome, Sporty and Versatile :0)

  54. #69 Okay sorry Asamoa I realize I am a bit dumb but I really love Zambia. I am going to stop shooting off foul language

  55. Dennis they may be handsome but are too rough for some of us’ liking. I even hear they have ‘mother of alls’ – is it true? You might know. After all you called a fellow man handsome. I suppose you are ugly yourself, right?

  56. Can anyone name any Zambian who is recognized internationally for achieving anything??????? (Good or Bad) in Science?, Business?, International politics?, Academia? or Sports?.

Zambia is a freaking Banana republic. A country of low achievers and nonentities who don’t have the balls to dream or aim higher than their balls. A basket case, dependent on Aid and ravished by Aids. A parasitic failed state which relies on others for its very existence and whose people are filled with grandiose delusions. Always looking upon other African nations with contempt and disdain. A Corrupt blimp slowly gravitating towards its own self destruction and abyss.

  57. LT this is why we have been advocating for registration to use this site. I never posted #76. This is Asamoa.

    Please introduce registration

  58. LT this is why we have been advocating for registration to use this site. I posted #76 but not the rest I am feeling a bit confused maybe it is Asamoa or someone else

  59. Dennis, either your surname is Ikechukwu and you are upset because of the comments Zambians have made about Nigerians or you hope to get a job at Access and use your nasty comment as CV! Don’t spend too much time at Katondo Street. It is bad for your mindset. Zambians are achievers, dear Dennis and you inadvertently forgot to indicate that Zambians are anti-aids activists. Nigeria has its share of aids sufferers which is quite colossal mind you – and population aside! Get your facts right, base your insinuations on researched statistics and not hate. I just came from Abuja and they were impressed with the Zambian statistics which actually show a decline in the scourge.

  60. “October 2, 2008 The Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC) in Kitwe has arrested a Nigerian national and a 19 year-old Zambian for trafficking in cocaine powder and crack cocaine.”

Is this the kind of development that you need from nigerians? Zambians wake up before you find your country in great mess. nigerians are very corrupt.

  61. some of you guy are so unintelligent and ignorant how could you compared Nigeria development with over 140m population together with over 400 distinc different languages and culture, and their ability to cooperate despite their difference to form a government and strong economy.
Nigeria is the most populous and richest country in Africa. Also get the fact it has never been an easy task to control every individual act or produce a perfect society with equal representation.
I should therefore advice to explored more about nigeria. Zambians should be supportive and thankful of nigeria stepping to rescue them. Believed or not you are all the same people & be united for better.

  62. there is no deniying that the nigerians are rich and we are not…..that still does not mean we must say yes to them just because they offered. its not healthy…..if we must accept, it must be after lengthly consideration and research as to what exactly we would be getting into….even then, stereo type or no stereo type, dealing with nigerians is skating on thin ice…….thanks but no thanks…..

  63. CAN SOME ONE PLEASE ASK THAT DENNIS INDIVIDUAL IF HE HAS EVER BEEN TO ZAMBIA?????????????………..STOP EXPOSING URE IGNORANCE!!!!!!!!!!

  64. DARING NIGERIANS

Just quoting some newspaper – 500 tons of toxic waste on a Panama registered cargo ship, the Probo Koala, was dumped @ 15 public locations across Abidjan. Nigerian national Solomon Ugborugbo sentenced to 20 years in jail and his accomplise 5 years. Dutch company settled out of court to avoid prosecution by paying US$200million. Still that is nothing, considering the damages to victims is irreparable. Not even money can reverse things.
