ECZ dismisses Livingstone truck claims

Share

The Electoral Commission of Zambia-ECZ says trucks impounded by opposition party members in Livingstone are not carrying ballot papers for the presidential election.

ECZ Public Relations Manager, Chris Akufuna, said the trucks are carrying lamps and batteries that will be used during Thursday’s presidential election.

Mr. Akufuna said political stakeholders should conduct themselves properly and feel free to contact the ECZ on any issue during preparations for the election.

He said in a statement in Lusaka on Tuesday that it is sad that some political parties had opted to take the law into their own hands.

Mr Akufuna said ECZ is committed to conducting a free and fair election.

UPND and PF caders on Tuesday impounded two trucks carrying items to be used in the October 30 presidential election on suspicion that they were carrying ballot papers to be used to rig the poll.

  1. it’s tight this time round…. but i bet the extra ballot papers were imported into the country ages ago… those special branch chaps are pretty sophisticated (makes one wonder whose interests they are actually protecting)

  2. These cadres were at least alert because the boxes were for ECZ and there was need to inspect them. As observers, they have the right to search these things.

  3. but why are these people behaving in such unruly manner?? even if the poll was to be rigged the signs are seen on the day of voting, you cannot just look at a truck and start screaming it has ballot papers…and who is even bringing these ballot papers, HH also has the capacity to do so

  4. if you are sure the truck is carring lamps, then open it to avoid comfusions. you will lose nothing by opening it. we can not trust ECZ at this moment…. Everything we are not sure will dmand certification….

  5. awe kabaseche fye ayo ama trucks no chances MMD this time.amake bafuma progress pa zed pabwaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaatooooooooooo

  6. Zambians have 100% wrights to know what those trucks are carying. ECZ is to blame for the tension. Why not just open the trucks to comfirm their unpopular and childish claims. Its morally wrong. ECZ, you are not different from your colleagues in Zimbabwe. Shame on you.

  7. kayula wuhan, you don’t know these things. the game has just gotten tough for the mmd. they have been rigging elections from the time they used the NIKUV (mossad) system of voter registration in 1996. the late dean should have won that election but they made it look like chama chakomboka had beaten him. nkhani yalula baba.

  8. How true is it tht the clearance paperz on the track indicated that VJ was to sign 4 them wth hs phone number indicatd there acording to znbc…its tricky ths tym.vigilance is high…

  9. What a load of rubbish! PF and UPND are becoming paranoid. We cannot allow for illegal roadblocks and searches in a civilised democratic state. We shall decend into a state of anarchy if UPND and PF do not grow up.

  10. I am still urging Veep RBB and the whole MMD to endorse president HH before it is too late. Zambia can not afford to have Sata as Zambia President at this time. Let us convince Sata to sit for Grade 7, 9 and 12 exams before he can come back and contend the Zambian Presidency.
Countdown: 1 day 45 minutes remaining and we are counting.
I envision a Zambia whose people shall stand tall as PROUD persons instead of being timid due to lack of confidence and motivation. President HH has committed himself to serve Zambia to the best of his ability and so, let us endorse HH on Thursday so that HH can bring a better future to our children. Together, yes we can and we still have 1 full day to decide

  11. #16, Moderate stop hallucinating your MMD are busy trying to rig the elections with the help of ECZ especially Dany Kalale. Any elections materials coming into Zambia have to be declared and opposition parties have to be aware of the materials. VJ was in SA doing what? Consolidating the rigging. If the people of Zambia are robbed their votes by MMD then they will raise against MMD and there is no doubt about it that why MMD is panicking and in fear.

  12. Zambia has approximately one day to chnage its destiny in future terms on to a course that will bring all things to be running well for all Zambians.
I am a carrier of a Zambia National Registeration Card (NRC) which shows that I am a Zambian Citizen. On it (NRC), there is nowhere written Tonga except the village of Chief Mapanza – which is i n s i g n i f i c a n t anyway for I have never been there sadly. I also have a Zambian P a s s p o r t which also has no reference to my tribe Tonga while it only indicates my NRC (Zambian Citizenship) number. So, fellow Zambian Citizens, it is us all as Zambians and not HH as a Tonga person although this is only true (HH being Tonga).

  13. Stop your primitivity maestro.you are so rhetoric and begining to irritate me now.
just campaign for yo hechi hechi,we dont want to know all that crap okay.
    ifwe ni pabwatooooooooooooooooooooooo.

  14. No. 16 I hope you will big enough to say sorry when it becomes apparent that the only hallucinations are those by people who see ballot papers in every truck. I can however bet that you are not that big.

Fellow Zambian Citizens, let us all brace ourselves for the worst or the best. May the good Lord God protect out families.

Listern to the 3 main candidates for Zambian President and also see their profiles wirtten by MUSONDA CHIBANDA – I hope Zambia will continue to have peace for some TRIBALISTS are really bringing us as a Nation down.

  17. No # 23 Maestro Hhehhehhehhe
Please send that link in its correct format. There shall be no sleep until my take on it. Even tried deleting the spaces between. May God bless Zambia; we are a president away from sharing the $1 200 per capita income equally. May God bless you all.

  18. Let those trucks be searched. Why are they fearing the truck to be searched aba babwa babantu? Vj uyowafwa lufu lubi wait and see.

  19. Lamps for polling stations??? …. at this hour???? …. when will they reach the polling stations????? can someone please explain to me Lamps from South Africa why at this hour? … to [remote] polling stations at this hour!?

  20. Enough of this ish… the opposition are so desperate to catch MMD rigging so that they cause unrest, if they intend to rig for f’s sake do they honestly think they would be so careless? Morons!

  21. Number 24, copy and paste address as it is but delete the . stm and add a full stop immediately after the number and type stm. it works or just open bbc and go to africa, then focus on africa
all in all, how is the situation on the ground? we want peace to reign in Zambia and we are tired of recyled ideas, MMD have preached development for the past 16 years and nothing has come forth. I f they steal this chance, Zambians forget about voting for the next 20 years to come as this MMD will re organise itself in 2011 and scoope the election if this time they wont lose

  22. But this truck issue happened yestaday, how are they going to distribute to the remotest parts of zed which need lamps? These were supposed to be distributed together with the ballot papers and boxes. why do such sensitive work in bits and pieces? MMD, ECZ and govt at large, dont ever deny the people thier choice, God will fight for them and you will regret having had stood in the way of Gods people. You cannot oppress people forever, they will have a redeemer and once that time comes, you will do anything to stop it but you will fail.

  23. Why import lamps for polling stations anyway? You mean Zambians can’t provide those lamps locally. For sure these kicks of dying horses are becoming too extreme. If they have nothing to hide, let them open thos trucks we see the ‘lamps’. God help this nation.

  24. For me really, I think those trucks should be opened and let Florence Mumba give us a statement. Also, VJ should be picked up by police for questioning…how come it was his phone number…MMD are out, come tomorrow. If it was PF or UPND they would have arrested them. RB you dont deserve to be president of this country…Ve seen your campaigns on TV, using pipo to praise you, we want your manifesto not your sons talking. Every child sees a father as their hero,..that was nonsense.

  25. # 28 Njooka, pay me no mind, its what Iam feeling right now. if you are non partisan good for you. Iam actively involved in politics because it has an impact on my livelihood.

  26. A kaponya will remain a kaponya, PF or no PF. In fact, he will be in a worse off position bcoz he will get beaten anytime by anybody on flimsy suspicion of being MMD or otherwise.

You guys blogging here will only blog about it, and laugh.

Vote MMD for good economic policies, peace of mind, democracy, order and respect of the rule of law.

  27. Look, while Zambians had the right to know the contents of the trucks, but riotious behaviour should not be condoned. I think there could have been other means of advocating for the inspection of the trucks. Zambians, lets remain peaceful – One Zambia, One Nation and God bless mother Zambia!!

  28. Maestro Hhehhehhehhe, are you very normal?,why are you so desperate as if HECHI HECHI is your little dad?.VOTE FOR YOUR HH AND LEAVE US TO VOTE FOR OUR SATA.

    PABWATOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

  29. Where are the trucks at this moment? Let them not be opened until after the counting of votes all over the country.

  30. #16 unless you dont listen to the news. Yesterday they showed the trucks in Livingstone and the PF district secretary of Livingstone produced a paper with VJ name and he phone No. If these are really batteries and torches, why cant they open them and show them to us and these are ECZ materials, why address them to VJ? open up your eyes and see. God have mercy on mother Zambia.

  31. This is confirms that the elections will be rigged,
am in L/stone here and they say these are batteries and yet they fail to show to the pipo and put the trucks under police escorte at 2000hrs.
At a time VJ anounces the MMD predictions to win.

This is not democracy MMD you ar a shame and what ever happens next you have to blame your selves as selfih leaders with diety hands God will punish you for taking us for granted.

Police IG you are worthless after Levy’s death u now start showing your true colours, dame you.

  32. Maestro please dont underate the wisdom of God. God is able to use anyone of us to lead his people irrespective of his education background. This time around He is using Sata wether you like it or not but I also respect you views and choice after all you are Zambian and entitled to your own opinion. You will definately benefit from Michael’s rule. HH just endorse Sata at your rally in Kanyanma but we will give chance in 2011. Viva PF Viva Sata Kimwamukolo fela.

The batteries and torches were supposed to have come earlier than now. We are watching you ECZ dont say you were not warned.

  33. its easy to know if this phone number-0955-774191 belongs to VJ. Those at cell Z can you find out and tell us. you can print a list of incoming and outgoing calls to this number and you will find the truth.

  34. Anyone with credible information on Rigging will be rewarded a sum of ZMK 5million. Terms and conditions apply. Watch out for this space. PF and UPND take note

  35. people of zambia instead of exchanging bad words ,lets spend these few hours in prayer as leadership comes from God.if God gives us sata,rb,or hh it means thats what he has seen best for us lets do our part in voting and tumushile umwine,he is faithfull and will give us the right leader.stay blessed!!!

  36. No wonder the MMD are so sure of wining these elections it is because they no what they are doing in the back ground its not fair. Can’t they just let the will of the pipo? shame on you VJ

  37. Do people honestly think that marked ballot papers will be in a truck destined for ECZ?
Its paranoia at its best. This is going to be a close one with everyone convinced they will be winning. Lets be vigilant but peaceful. There are channels that can be followed to address griviences.

  38. Its sad that lamps must came in late. What Has Vj Got to do with ECZ? I don t remember him being a civil servant but retired and a just a cadre for MMD.

  39. #42 Can you comfirm that the trucks were escorted to Lusaka at night (2000hrs) ? Who else was there apart from the police ? Oh no, if its true then it is so unfortunate.

  40. if for real the trucks are carrying torches and batteries, why not just open them and shame those claiming they are carrying ballot papers? lets get vigilant and allow those trucks to be opened in the full view of everyone.not just 4 people! livingstone and lusaka people keep watching the trucks.
    Viva free & fair elections.

  41. zambians for once let us use the ballot to lay a foundation for democracy…… Hand picking pipo is not democratic, niether are tricks. Let the pipo judge by casting thier votes with out any manipulations.

  42. Im told only a PF woman who was sandwiched between police officers escorted the trucks!!.We cant really know what was in the trucks originally as it is easy to compromise one person and a woman for that matter and in the night. If they are lamps then ECZ should prove that they have transport already in place waiting at the offloading bay by now to distribute them country wide.Pre-arranged transport as it was with ballot papers. If they proove that then my heart will be at peace.PEACE TO ZAMBIA WHATEVER THE OUTCOME PLEASE.

  43. Dear all,

For God’s sake!! can’t you pi[po see that this Npuno yaikulu guy has taken advantage of the citizens inteligenge by 1.reducing the price fuel(a propaganda) 2.reducing the price of fertlizer ( i wonder if this guy has run his business of his own b4) 3. offering 30 billion for the chipata – …. road, when the L/stone – Zimba was underfunded and Mugande promised to look for funds to complete the road. 4. promising reduction in unga prices before election. 5. promosing the retirees in kafue. how in a country, so beautifll with a inteligent pipo fall for his crap. come on! open yo eyes.
Everything is possible with VJ around. Note that Change is really nedded and is unavoidable.

  44. lack of coordination withstakholders.ecz what is your problem?cant tell you friends that you are bringing in some stuff.and why election stuff coming in piece meals.you are responsible for de confusion.

  45. I bid farewell to you all. Its been nice and I will miss most of u. I will be back on 1 November after the swearing in ceremony of Zambias next President, President Michael Chilufya Sata. Allow me to be thr first one to congratulat Mr. Sata for being elected President of this great nation. Deliver on the promise. I salute you all and I sincerely pray that we all shall vote wisely and be peaceful no matter the outcome, after all the win will be Zambian. I leave you peace as i head to the mother of all rallies – Woodlands Stadium.
Uncle Phil aka VN, the man from Luangwa District says Peace and Chao.

  46. WHEN IS PF GOING TO STOP FAKE STORIES. TODAY IT WAS A BUS IN KASAMA AGAIN FAKE STORY. WHY? WHY? MAY THE POLICE DO THEIR JOB AS PF IS TAKING THE LAW IN TO THEIR HAND. CONFUSION WITH PF IS A SIGN THAT THEY HAVE NO LEADERSHIP. LETS GO ON WITH MMD. VIVA RB

  47. The RBs premarked balot papers impounded in Kasama and Nakonde. They are said to be for Distribution to the would be voter to sway them to vote on ichikoloko icha fwa. The riger are at it.These are being transported by bus.

  48. ecz are the one to blame for any confusion becouse they ve onived with the mmd look at the high number of threats being issued in the media i won’t say much but to remind all of you that when pipo lose confidence and stop using their brains but emotions the repercusions are what is in Kenya Zimbabwe and many other countries. please we can avoid this

  49. MMD walalaaaaaaaaaaaa ,ECZ are fake at first they promised us that the had bought generators to be used in all rural polling stations where there is no power but how come today they are sayin LAMPS FROM RSA,SHAME ON YOU ECZ

  50. Cycle Mata is the most paranoid bloke I’ve ever encountered! Just wait for tomorrow old man, you’ll suffer a fatal ‘heart attack’…!

  51. #50 the two trucks where escorted under heavy police guard and escort, those police who where there during riot where removed and the number of policement from lusaka and three buses for opposition no one from Livingstone was part of the escort team and police number was between 28 and 35

  52. If the supposed lamps are meant for polls I wonder when they will reach Kaputa, Chama etc. A bit too late isntit?

  53. I that all these are tactics of the chief rigger. He resigned from active politics.Mind you the chief rigger just returned form south africa .ECZ are part of the game.

  54. Zambia is not short of lamps. As a matter of fact these could have along with Ballot papers. All the same there surfaced extra ballot papers. No confidence in ECZ.

  55. May the Lord of mercy show those people who are doing wrong things that He is faithful and just. All that is done in darkness shall be brought to light. May even those who are not served be born-again if they fail to achieve their goal. We cast that burden to our faithful father who does not fail.
