Some parents in Kafue have appealed to school authorities in the area not to turn away pupils unable to pay school fees when they report next week on Monday to learn as their parents scout for money, arguing that finding money is not easy nowadays.

One of the parents, Bella Banda said that school authorities in the district have a tendency of chasing away pupils in the first week when schools open and that it is not fair, as the pupils want to learn.

Mrs. Banda said Kafue is a town currently experiencing a lot of economic problems and that the school authorities should know that the delay in paying school fees is not deliberate. She said the school authorities should realise that they are also parents and that unemployment was very high and understand that sending children away from schools is not a solution.

Another parent Mrs. Dorothy Mwanza said the majority of parents work for Nitrogen Chemicals of Zambia (NCZ) and African Textiles of Zambia (ATZ) both of which have not performed well for so many years.

Mrs. Mwanza further said there are many other issues to consider, especially that this is the beginning of the year and some children have to travel to schools that are very far away, and also considering that parents need to buy uniforms and  books for their children, apart from paying school fees.

  2. Our hearts goes out to those parents with kids in school in Zambia. My kids go to the best schools I do not pay school fees all I buy are school books,I pay taxes and my taxes funds the education of the children,One day that should become a reality in Zambia too.

  3. PA ZED, NO ORDER.IS IT PRIMARY SCHOOL OR SECONDARY,? PLEASE LT MAKE IT CLEAR..AS WE KNOW PRIMARY SCHOOK PUPILS DONT PAY.

  4. My BRO Martworld, there are small boards that run some schooll affairs that charges small fees especially for uniforms jerseys and paying of cleaners as the GVT has failed to manage these small affairs.Nevertheless still many can not afford to pay.you now we are poor its a pity.I feel for them.

  5. #6 i too thought primary education was free, perharps things have changed already. RB admitted having a memory problem and so needs to be reminded that primary education was free before. 🙁

  6. Suppergal

How are you? That is why I asked, coz as far as i can remember the Late his excellence LPM said free education from 1-7.Now that picture has comfussed me.Anyway limbi yalipwa mayo njisale akanwa. :-s:-s:-s

  7. I wonder were these guys take tax payers money, what a shame, they drive expensive cars while the villagers walk hours bare footed to get to school, they have their meals a dozen times every day while the poor tax payer takes one meal every two days, they would rather the night goes on & on to enjoy the comfort of their expensive beddings while the poor man has to keep the fire burning all night to survive the cold, but remember GOD is watching in silence. 8-|

  8. Martworl i cant understand what is happening to our leadership.isha ma benzin mu helicopter shilasangwa for them to travel comfortably while they can serve us better..its shameful : oh im fine sweet cakes

  9. Suppergal, You always make my day. I go to bed laughing everynite. You rock gal with whatever you write in your comments. ;):))

  10. Awe Suppergal, you crack me up so much but you do it deliberate to take the meek out of everyone. Well keep it up. A comma before a question mark. lol.

  11. For me education in Zambia should be free and obligatory (primary & secondary). You cannot expect people who live on less than a dollar per day to pay school fees =))=))=))=))
The govt should pay for education using money from taxes and the so-called foreign investors!!! Even here in Poland (an advanced country) education is free.

  12. Ooops!
Almost forgot its that time again to go to Western Union to post some money to help our beloved relations in this time of need…..
Its just natural, thats why God gave us all the blessings.. in order to help others.. [-o<^:)^^:)^**==

  13. LT be specific, does this affect primary schools or is it secondary schools only. You have not specified and the picture seem to be misleading because it shows primary school children. What I know and I believe even others will agree is that primary education in Zambia is free. Will you please tell us what is going on and whether what you are saying is true… LAME DUCKS.
And you RB wake up and do something about the Zambian education system. You are so quiet and content with everything… What vision do you have for this country kanshi?. Look at how much impact Obama is making even before he can move into white house. Wake up from that slumber of sleepness man! [-(

  14. This is one result of too much festivity during December. Lots of families spend so much during the festive season that they forget that January is just around the corner. Schools need money to function. We’re longer in Kaunda’s socialist state. Welcome to capitalism!

  15. but i think this situation is affecting the secondary schools because i recall when back home the primary school students were not paying but anyway that was Mwanawasa’s time am not quite sure of RB regime.

  16. Senseless, thats Senseless, what festivity when people cant afford a meal.As you may be aware there are job losses country wide(C/belt) & kafue Estates and NCZ have not been paid for months on end.How do expect people to pay School fees. Why do we pay TAXES?

  17. I thought RB was advised to champion the cause of education in this country. The problem with our leaders is that they do not want get free but progressive advice from other people. If RB wants to make a name for himself let him champion this noble crusade of free education, and he will win the support of all the Zambian.Meanwhile,no child should be chased from school for failling to pay school fees.My herat goes to all the pupils at the backside of this country whose parents are struggling to find money. What about shimaini?

  18. #24
we fear Yahweh even though we do slip off track quiet often .But to talk like that is treason of the hihgest order .WITHDRAW YOUR STATEMENT!!!

  19. #28 INDEED YOUR NAME SAYS IT ALL.HOW/WHAT IS/WAS THERE TO BE SPENT WHEN WE ALL KNOW THE PROBLEMS THAT ARE BEING FACED IN KAFUE .NCZ AND THE TEXTILE COMPANY ARE SOMETHING ELSE WHEN IT COMES TO RUNNING OF THE COMPANIES THERE`S NO MONEY COZ THESE COMPANIES ARE ON AND OFF

  20. Hmmm!! Hi every one on this blog!!
LT please can you be specific which level is affected. Is it Primary or Secondary??
gentlemen,is their a possibility that we should make it mandatory for our Leaders in Government to take their Children to Governmet Schools,so we can be singing the same song with them in times like these??
At least we knew what LPM stood for, nowadays its seems each one for himself and the Governmnet coffers for them to enjoy.Like Easy man has said God is Watching, bakamikanda you heartless leaders!!!

  21. #24,what gives you that courage, lets joke with other issues and not tease God in that manner!!! please becareful with what you say,its dangerous for you.Read the word to understand the sins that grieve God.Please reverse your statement.

  22. oooh come on where have you seen sch fees for 20pin.Anyway my point was/is there were no festivities per se in most households.Secondly where does the tax we pay go to? Do we get the benefits of paying TAX?The least GRZ can do at is offer free education!!!!!!!!

  23. Zed has no capacity to offer free this and that. The tax we pay should be utilised to improve national infrastructure to encourage investment, both local and foreign. People should have plan Bs and small families in order to survive in an economic down turn.

  24. It’s goog to see that the majority of us are posting these comments from the comforts of a foreign country having received free education in Zambia to get us to this place. Has it ever occured to any of us to realise that we are as much a cause of the problem problem as the politicians we so much like to blame ?

  25. #45 – very true. But in most cases I suspect the two are one and the same. What country is your flag by the way ?

  26. #47 – I guess we get “some” benefit, but like every country the tax revenue has to be spread over a wide range of so called benefits. In Zed there are not enough people in employment to cover all the perceived benefits.

  27. I would like to see better roads to start with. As someone has alluded to, there aren’t enough tax payers in zed to provide too many free things.
