    • I get the feeling that this story will drag on, for a long time. why dont they just privatise the luanshya mines all together

    • Are you under a rock? Luanshya mine was privatised but the investors made theor money and bailed. Twice. Let ZCCM-IH take over and resume operations so that we can move on. Clearly privatisation of this mine did not work in our favour.

    • 1.2 You must realise that the mine has be in foreign private hands for the second time. I donot think privatising it yet again will do any good. One thing about the so called feriegn investers is that they are mor interested in profit more than any thing else. If the mine goes to ZCCM investment holding at least the governmet will put its citizens first.

    • Mushota , I hope and trust that you are aware of the happenings at this mine .The mine was privatised and later abandoned by the foreighn investors. I respect your opiion but cautiously consider your solution (privatisation) to be a bit offline.

  1. Ba Kabwala imwe ba politician how many times will you sale Luanshya Mine.
Chiluba – Binani, Mwanawasa- LCM and what is next for Banda and SATA. Every politician can enrich himself from Luanshya. that is the way it looks like.

  2. Me am on break from commenting on these people who dont even listen.I will comment later am watching Inter millan vs ka useless team putting on a red gersey dont even know the name of that ka team.It pains me to see the people of Luanshya suffer like this.

    Negotiations-New owners-staff reshuffle-Hope for Luanshya and all of Zed-De water-Production for a number of months-Shut down-Negotiations

I seriously doubt if this will be long term or viable. My poor Luanshya…

  6. ma labishi ati how? is this the answer to zambia’s issues? “find an investor”? please man have some backbone

  7. Rusty Brat is full of empty talk. Very sleepy in his approach towards the well being of the miners. Where’s he taking this country? back in time to 1964.

  8. I wonder what other economic activity can be viable in Luanshya besides mining.

The current development from the current article is a good one but I think we should find some safety net for the residents of Luanshya because it seems the town is always in an economic cycle and their livelihood depends on the prices of copper.

Maybe we should look at agro-processing, computer assembling and textiles as a viable industry in Luanshya. It is also close to the DRC and this would make a great export market since the transport infrastructure is already put in place in Luanshya.

    • Are you still anticipating the national output to increase more than 2008 record as predicted by World Bank? Carefully do your analysis well

    • I am not anticipating anything. All I am saying is there needs to be another industry in the town that can provide a livelihood in Luanshya besides mining.

  9. Now the words of SATA are real. He told Levy you are selling these mines to crooks and not proper investors. The govt gave these infestors and not investors 100% incentives but what is Zambia is riping is the broken rewards. My thoughts and prayers to Zambians going through these hard times. These miners they dont know where the pay cheque will be coming from neither two meals to feed their families will be coming from. Whether their children will be going to school, the sick will receive medcare or there is a posibility that they will be sheltered. The first priority of any govt is to provide, shelter, food, water, education and health to its people but I wonder this unpopular govt will.

  10. These people need just help from the govt to help live a stable life during this period testing.
RB has been trotting through AFRICA whilst his backyard need attention. No wonder his son is involved in importing GMO maize to make money out of doubious means. If levy can look back where ever he is and see what RB is doing surely is crying with anger. The people to blame are villagers who voted for RB + Vernon Mwanga for rigging the elections. Villagers are the people who even need more help from their relatives in mines in employment. Zambians are patient people and their unbroken spirits will help them through this difficult times. RB & MMD kuya bebele 2011 for better zambia .

  14. Tell us when you finalize. For now it counts for nothing if the people don’t get anything signed on the dotted line.

  15. Good morning ladys and gentlemen? I have not been on the site for four days. Pandubanya! Napachinja-completely. Talking about the handing over of the Luanshya Copper Mines to ZCCM-IH, the government is merely building castle in the air. Why am I saying this, is simply because ZCCM Investment Holdings is incapable of running this mine. The President should just scamper around and find a candid and viable mine investor to take over as soon as possible.

  17. Mr president, give us the time frame, that is what people of luanshya whant to know than keeping them in the darkness. and tell us how much is GRZ going to pump into luanshya mine since you didn’t consider that in your budget. i dont think GRZ as the capacity to run the mine looking at rampant greedy and corruption from our leaders. suppliers to this mine will be only ministers and GRZ officials, managers will be relatives to ministers so that its easy loot the money. wait and see. we will give them benefit of doubt.
