Zambia and Tunisia clash on Wednesday in match day one in Group d at the Africa Cup in Lubango.

Zambia arrived on Sunday in Angola and transited by air to Lubango in the south where they will play two games before shifting to the port city of Benguela on January 21.

Herve Renard has boldly stated that this is the Africa Cup that will end Zambia’s 14-year quarterfinal draught.

How the draught will be ended against a foes whom Zambia have failed to beat since 1995 and memories are still fresh of their first round 4-1 bashing in Egypt four years ago.

This tournament will be crucial for captain Chris Katongo whose form has been poor of late.

Focus will also fall on another veteran of sorts in James Chamanga who has been a consistent scorer over the last three months for Zambia with 7 goals since November to date for Zambia.

Focus will also fall on winger Clifford Mulenga who returns to the fold after a year away on self-imposed exile.

Mulenga has been a consistent scorer for his struggling side Mpumalanga Black Aces on 5 goals and should he replicate that form with Zambia he could be one of the team’s key players this time around.

In Zambia’s upcoming Group D fixtures, Renard’s side will face Cameroon on the 17th at the same venue before moving to Benguela to take on Gabon in their final game four days later.

  1. Th Malawi game over? That iz just the start of good thingz to happen at this tournament. Now go Zambia goal boiz!

  2. this africa cup is actually very open. World cup teams wont apply too much of themselves for fear of injuries. if you see the way Algeria was playing you will agree with me. That way second tier teams stand a chance of winning this cup

  3. Malawi’s convincing 3-0 win over Algeria is an inspiration for Zambia as they prepare for their opening match on Wednesday. They must aim to get the 3 points. Good luck!

  4. Ibange libi u have a very shallow analysis. What makes u think teams that qualified to the world cup wont apply themselvs very much as if this is the first time that the Africa cup has been played in the same year with the world cup? Where were u in 1994 when Nigeria applied themselves fully to beat Zambia and lift the Agrica cup that year when they had qualified to the world cup? Algeria have lost because Malawi were better than them on the day and not that they did not apply themselvs fully because of theworld cup…No execuses pliz. When a team is beaten they are beaten!!!

  5. The stakes at the world cup are high, i saw Algeria playing today, its not the Algeria that played Zambia and Egypt. If Malawi were an attacking team they would have scored even 6 goals or more. Algeria went to camp in Europe (which is winter) because they are focused on the world cup which will be played in winter in South Africa.watch the other world cup teams play . I want you to admit it on the final day of the tournament that i was right

  6. Have you seen the stadia in Angola? One can feel jealousy as Zambia has non such modern stadiums. Am surprised Senegal and Morocco failed to make it to this Africa Cup 2010.

  7. No: 8 ibange libi, if you watched the game between Ivory Coast and Bukina Faso then you saw how physical it was. The Ivorians played their lungs out but failed to penetrate the Bukinabe defence. Does your theory still hold?

  8. Number 7 sorry to say do not use insulting words ( shallow) but make corrections were you feel you know more thank you. i’m a medical doctor and do not look down on people it is called respect you not lose anything but gain more!

  9. Hope our boys have seen that names don´t do a thing anymore in football. If only they can believe in themselves just like Malawi did……no one can stop us. not even Dilaba or whatever that dude´s name was.

  10. pa Zambia needs to go back home before playing, they should just lie that we were attacked by MMD cadres !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!coz they will loose stop daydreaming.

  11. Ba Zambia needs to go back home before playing, they should just lie that we were attacked by MMD cadres in Kafue !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!coz they will loose stop daydreaming.Share wast of tax payers money.

  12. #9 Ife Ndife Ba Zambia, According to Eurosport fixtures Zambia plays Tunisia this Wednesday at 18.30 hrs.

  13. This is always a blessed period for football lovers the way to avoid heart attacks is not to get your hopes up Lets hope they do well

  14. #21 and others remember there has been war after war in Angola cetain infrustructure comes with hosting sports events. If Zambia was to host a sports event that requires that type of infrustructure it would have to be built if you havent noticed the problem with such events in Africa is that you never fill the Stadiums up which is a waste of the structures. EG the Malawi game honestly if i designed that stadium i would angree.
So my friends do not think that Angola has always had those stadiums there is a lot of money going round when an event of that nature is put together. In Zambia i am sure the infrustructure building would all go to China as a coorperating partner lol

  15. The fact that Zambia never performs well is welcome to the saving of Souls and lives from death. They players should play for european team scouts thoug. A better future for them and their wives.

  16. I was personally impressed about Malawi how they played against Algeria, From the first whistle of the game to the last whistle of the game malawi was sharp and on target, their scoring spirit surpassed Zambian scoring spirit, amazingly Algeria was bushed 3-0.

  17. Mali showed what is indeed the fighting heart. Even at four goals down they kept Calm and came back firing against a hostile ethusiastic host crowd.

  18. Hey pipo is Lusaka times going to stream the zambia game? U dont get much of soccer in Australia,if anyone knows any site that is showing our cgame pliz hook me up with the link thanks.Go zambia Go

  19. # 28,29
go to p2p4u.com, they will have several streams for the games, use google chrome.
I am impressed with the infrastructure in Angola. Congratulations to the people of Angola.
Angola has now become an African Superpower.
I wish Zambia could wake up.

  20. what makes you think that Malawi’s performance is a reflection of Zambia ‘s fortunes? Cheap analogy. Come on! Malawi played well because they did their home work. They were transparent in their team selection. Their adminisration is organised and not arrogant. They have a prooven coach in Mr. Phiri. His record as a player and coach speaks for itself. They organised proper preparatory matches including the recent ones with Ghana and Mozambique if you really bother to follow issues. Above all their president is not Kalusha. FAZ administration are not interested in going anywhere in this tournament. Its the immediate gain of travel and allowances they are interested in. Others want to expose only the players they will be able to sell abroad and make a buck for themselves. they’re jealousy…

  21. EXCELLENT PERFORMANCE FROM sOUTHERNERS ANGOLA AND MALAWI! IT WAS A GOOD MOTIVATION FOR ZAMBIA. I AM SURE THEY WERE SAYING CAN’T WE PLAY NEXT. NOW IS THE TIME. GO ZAMBIA GO!!!!!

  22. yes ! good performance from southerners so far though angola disappointed in the last 15mins .i guess cosafa is finally paying off . i also want to disagree with the notion that algeria did not take the match seriously bcoz if anything ,they would love to go to world cup as african champions .Its every teams’ dream but we cannot rule them out at the moment .So the chipoz boyz are a few hours b4 kick off .It will be tough in that group and i think they will do wonders once they make it through the group stage .It seems cote d ivorie might crush out going by the turn of fortunes for the burkina faso . The elephants look as though they will struggle against Ghana .Lets hope to win two games.am sure u all want that but have chosen to stay tight lipped.ha ha ha ! it will happen . good luck

  23. Well so far the Africa cup looks interesting with interesting results. Lets see how Zambia performs against Tunisia then we will judge from that point.

  24. Algeria is not a strong team i wonder how the even beat us twice. If they can’t beat Malawi i wonder how tthe plan to beat teams like England during the World Cup. I see them coming out of Afcon with 1 point.

  25. We hope for the best I cannot say much. BBC has written on their website that its a matter of lucky for Zambia to make it to the next stage. It seems everyone looks down on us but I still have hope and God willing we will surprise everyone that is looking down on us. I hope our team is well prepared otherwise we will be embrassed once again.

  26. Go get them boys we are with you all the way…Remember you are our flag carriers and the whole country is looking up tu you do us the honours. You are capable of going all the way if only you believe in your selves.I for one await your success and make this country proud this year.Politically we still cry so please help whip those tears by doing well at AFCON.

  27. Go Zambia Go! you can do it guys dont listen to PHDs,dont let them tell you its impossible thats what they told heroes before.

  28. Our team is in Angola as Tourists. They lose the match before they play. I want to watch World cup so nshilesakamana bu chipante pante wenu ba Zed coz kuti nafwa na BP. Am rejoicing with the Malawians as at now.

  29. #39 & 40, You have made me laugh and smile and for a moment I didn’t mind the cold and heavy snow covering London.
