Nawakwi calls on all Zambian women to applaud Simbao’s decision

Share

Forum for Democracy and Development (FDD) President Edith Nawakwi has spoken highly of Health Minister Kapembwa Simbao for banning hospitals and clinics from requesting pregnant women to carry buckets when going to deliver.

Ms Nawakwi said the fact that Mr. Simbao announced the ban shows that he has taken into consideration the important issues surrounding women.

And Ms Nawakwi has called on all Zambian women to applaud Mr. Simbao’s decision because he has heard their cry. She also called on the donor community to support government Health institutions in order to supplement government’s efforts.

On Thursday April Mr. Simbao announced that his ministry would not condone the tendency by health institutions to encourage expectant mothers to bring cleaning materials after child delivery.

He added that carrying of buckets when going for delivery is not a general trend in the country.

A few weeks ago FDD president Edith Nawakwi said she had received reports that women were given their placentas after giving birth and she challenged the health minister to address the matter.

  1. “Banning hospitals and clinics from requesting pregnant women to carry buckets when going to deliver.”
So, Simbao is accepting that there was a problem after all. Why did his boss refuse? Banda and his band of losers are pathetic!

  2. Bravo Edith!! When you told them that there was a problem in health institutions around Lusaka these MMD guys were fast to call you names that you were politicking. What has Simbao seen now for him to ban pregnant women from carrying buckets to when going for deliveries? It’s sad that while these people are fast to rush to South Africa for treatment even for a headache they are able to tell us that there is enough medicine in our hospitals. Shame on you all political bootlicker. Bravo Edith you told them and they have heard let’s hope they will implement this.

  3. Simbao banned it so that women will not claim they are taking placentas home,in their buckets. anyway thank you for the vote of confidence from nawakwi.

  4. At last they have indirectly admitted the existence of the problem.
This is the best way to respond to issues when they are raised rather than calling people who raise them ‘mad’!

  5. Hey fellow Zambians,

Those of you who are seriously interested in investing in real estate at home, I have seen on Mwape’s radio site that they are hosting Mr. Elias Mpondelathe CEO/Managing Director at National Housing Authority in Zambia. He talks about acquiring property in Zambia. He will answer questions about the Zambian real estate market. If you are considering acquiring a residential property, you don’t want to miss this show. Join those guys hosting the shows today Saturday April 24th, 2010 at 8:00am New York Time (14:00 hrs Zambian Time) online, Skype or phone by calling: +1-718-766-4857.
They are also hosting former PF Kasama MP Dr. Saviour Chishimba, PhD

  6. At least acknowledge that you lied about mothers being give placentas to take home. That was a lie and you did not have any evidence , just heard compound and beer hall stories and tried to get political millage

  7. MMD Chief Bootlicker
Then what was the purpose of the buckets if it was not meant for carrying the same placenta, dont tell me the buckets were for women to put in their soiled clothes! one because when giving birth, women do not wear their own clothes, the hospital provides some clean gowns, which are left behind after delivery, they are sterilized and re-used,ladies carry their own spare clothes to change because normally they would stay in the hospital for a few days, hence they need to change clothes,,,unless you have an explanation as to what the buckets where used for we will take it Madam Nawakwi has had the last laugh,RB is embarrased period

  8. There is no sin to admit that you are wrong but it becomes sad when people are telling you that you are wrong and then you think that those who are trying to collect you are the ones who are wrong, that is typical thinking of the MMD leaders. When people say that things aare wrong in the country they dont say that just for the sake of it. I hope this will be the new way they would react to most of these problems we are having even corruption.

  9. The story of placentas being taken to be “taken care of ” by the owners came about when some people in the compounds started rum ours that nurses were not actually burning placentas but were selling them for “umuti”in witchcraft. The issue became too hot for hospital workers.they did”t want to be aligned with witchcraft. then, some clever worker suggested to allow these people to take care of the placentas traditionally at their homes. So it was more of rumourmongering against health workers.

  10. Banning them from taking the buckets does not address the problem. It may just mean they will have to find other ‘innovative’ means of taking the placentas. Before banning the buckets Simbao must move to address the problem of why the hospitals/clinics ask the expectant mothers to come with the buckets in the first place. If it it because the incinerators were not working have they been fixed now? If not, then by banning the buckets then you are just complicating even more an already bad situation

  11. All is well that ends well. I do not know whether there is any truth in the stories about placentas as # 12 has enlightened us, but thank you both Nawakwi and Honourable Simbao for your honourable statements. Party cadres, please note well that Honourable Simbao is a minister of Rupiah Banda’s government and he is addressing issues well. More importantly, note the appeal by Nawakwi for donors and Zambian women to support the government.

  12. Nawakwi now knows that she does not have to insult Rupiah Banda for problems to be resolved. She is a former minister and knows the ropes. In fact these ministers are surprisingly accessible. I could not not believe it recently when I sought to see one of the ministers when I had a problem; no appointment since he was there, the Secretary just told me to wait for him to finish his meeting.

  13. Job well done Nawakwi this is how things should be done. MMD is living in denial as they are the ones eating donar countries funds without speading it on health. Since mmd come to power What have they done for health in the country? All the structures and facilities were put there by KK. and the standard were very high. We need a change of government in the country.

  14. #15 katie good
whats honourable about Simbao’s statement, please elaborate!!!! and if you dont mind, can you please shame us and show us the insults Nawakwi showered on RB…i stand to be corrected, while you are at it,please show us any lies the POST have written about your beloved MMD and its leaders,if any

  15. Now we’ll see if RB will fire Simbao for being congratulated by one of his perceived enemies. We haven’t forgotten thats what he said when he fired Shakafuswa and Chibombamilimo. Infact the only sin chibombamilimo committed was fancing and supporting the former first lady for President before 2008 elections

  16. Katie Good, elaborate on your statement that Nawakwi insulted the President. You do not have to repeat the insult, just provide the link to the site or news story. If I remember correctly, Nawakwi observed that women were carrying buckets to clinics for their placentas. The health minister has agreed that buckets were being carried, but for the women’s soiled cloths, which is pretty much a lie, because no woman is allowed to give birth in her own cloths. So what were the buckets for? If you do not give an honest answer, I will be within my rights to call you a blind bootlicker. Kindly respond to this challenge!

  17. #9 Red Card, you did not know that Mpondela is the CEO for NHA? How much knowledge of current affairs a blogger has determines the quality of contributions.

  18. #17 & 20, that is water under the bridge and would bore other bloggers. Why should I repeat what everybody knows? Didn’t you follow the Nawakwi saga right on this blog? As for the Post we all know that they are not the same paper of high integrity that we knew in 1990’s, unless you tell me that you do not know the history of the Post?

  19. #18, you can look at this matter from many different angles. A more sensible and plausible angle is that Nawakwi has come to her senses. Why then would a reasonable and sober president like Rupiah Bwezani Banda fire one of his most loyal, competent and hard working ministers?

  20. # 23 & 22 Katie Good. Please answer the question, why were women told to go with backets? What were backets meant for ? answer please !!!:-?:-?

  21. Miss Good, you did not answer the questions raised. Why were the women going with buckets? And on Nawakwi, did you mean that story where she termed Govt’s actions as madness? How is that an insult?

  22. Tepapa ba RB!
When Nawakwi revealed about the buckets in clinics, RB lash out at Nawakwi.
Doesn`t this show how smart Nawakwi is. How opposite RB is.

  23. The big question is, WHY HAS MMD FAILED TO IMPLEMENT THE DECENTRALISATION POLICY??
Those close to MMD know that their fear is that Councils will perfome better, especially the City and Municipal Councils which are under the opposition, and that would be a threat to the survival of MMD. This is the perception of those in MMD, its sad to have such shallow minded leaders that can hold back the development of the nation for their own benefit at the expense of the masses.

Finally, are the MMD controlled Councils doing better than those under the opposition?

Can MMD tell us why Councils they control e.g. Kaoma in Western Province, Milenge in Luapula and Isoka have had misappropriation cases (not misapplication)??

  24. #27 Decentralise or Red card
Ok we’ve got your point now please stop posting that for goodness sake. As for MISS GOODY my advice is if you’ve got nothing to debate for your master please stay away from the computer for a couple of days or three because if you are not careful you may end up like SENIOR CITIZEN or his same sex civil partner Mr Capitalist. Remember to be forewarned is to be forearmed.

  25. 27 Decentralise or Red Card, ” The big question is, WHY HAS MMD FAILED TO IMPLEMENT THE DECENTRALISATION POLICY?? ”

Excellent point. We need decentralisation of budgets and powers.

28 Kanjimaano, ” Time for change. we need female president
    Vote for Nawakwi 2011 ”

I understand and support the sentiment. But for what party?

  26. Seems Katie good has no answers to all the questions put to her,she has coiled back into her shell in shame:d

  27. Nawakwi wavwangi chisinka. Simbao nawe wimvwa sana. Twasalifya mayo pantu nu mweba baba Simbao. Nawakwi wikhale cheti. Banda wamvela nkani iyi. Osachita ngati sunamvele. Ba Banda bene ni one wire.
