I’ll contest 2011 polls, vows Sata

Share

PF Leader Michael Sata left
OPPOSITION Patriotic Front (PF) president Michael Sata has vowed he will contest the 2011 election and continue to vie for the presidency even if he loses next year’s polls.

Mr Sata said he did not mind how many times he lost and cited some presidents whom he claimed had lost up to nine times before being elected.

Speaking during a live programme, ‘Facce the Media’ on Radio Phoenix yesterday, Mr Sata said there were no limits on how many times someone could contest elections.

Mr Sata said there were several other presidents in other countries such as Senegal and the United States of America who made more than several attempts but still managed to become president.

Mr Sata dared Government to even call for an impromptu general election today because the PF was ready.

He said Zambians were not interested about who would be the 2011 presidential candidates between the PF and the United Party for National Development (UPND) Pact but the concern was from the ruling MMD.

He said the PF and the UPND were different parties working together based on a common understanding and should not be mistaken to be one political party.

Mr Sata said the UPND and the PF had different constitutions and manifestos that did not have many contradictions in them.

“The PF and the UPND have different doctrines but we have agreed to work together. We are working well with Mr Hakainde Hichilema,” he said.

He said Zambians were not interested about who would be the 2011 presidential candidates between the PF and the United Party for National Development (UPND) Pact but the concern was from the ruling MMD.

However, Mr Sata came under attack from some callers who accused him of having attempted to promote his wife to higher position at the University Teaching Hospital (UTH) when he was health minister.

A caller Mr Kaunda said Mr Sata tried to promote his wife but the attempts failed because of some interventions.

Mr Sata, however, denied the allegations and claimed that his wife was too qualified and that there were other doctors at UTH such as Dr Tackson Lambart who were equally adequate.

Another caller Chishimba Kabwe said although Mr Sata was hard working, some people were skeptical of him that he would not relinquish power looking at how he had dominated the PF presidency.

And UPND spokesperson Charles Kakoma said there was nothing wrong with Mr Sata stating that he would run for the 2011 elections.
He said all pact members were free to declare intentions to contest elections and at any level.
“For now there is no presidential pact. The candidate is unknown,” he said.

Mr Kakoma, however, said the pact was working at modalities on how the selection process for the candidates at presidential, parliamentary and local Government would be done.

  1. The ghosts HH must wrestle with

‘Assumption is the mother of all failures’ so it is said. HH is making a terrible assumption if he thinks Sata will allow him to lead the ‘pact’. Sata has not even as much as once allowed anyone in his Party (PF) to challenge his leadership. So why on earth does HH think that the ‘Cobra’ will give him such a favour, on a silver platter? Surely HH cannot be so naïve!

It would seem on the bare face of it that if anyone in PF showed even a slight intention to challenge Sata’s leadership, that person would literally be bitten by his bare teeth. So how on earth has HH come to the conclusion that he has become so good buddies with he, who by the way, not long ago called HH a ‘calculator boy’, that he will now hand him the candidacy?

  2. In life to attain greatness, whatever greatness we measure up against, we are certain to meet battles, which we cannot, indeed, must not, run away from. The darkest and most eerie demons and nightmares must be met head-on. This we must do, otherwise, we are certain to be miserable failures in life. The option of failure is a cruel one.

HH is a leader of a Political Party who aspires to the great office of commander in chief of the Armed forces, the Chief Executive officer of the Republic of Zambia. Has he counted the costs to meet such a high goal?

  3. There is a daunting task ahead of him, no doubt. On the way to greatness one is bound to stumble, not once but many times. His recent behavior could be taken as mere slip-ups from which he could recover?

But on the other hand, these slip-ups could mean something deeper, an outward admission of failure. As an aspiring President to be, it is expedient of him not to portray a flaw in character. His reaction in Mufumbwe, at the Police station, is certainly disappointing, to say the least. The rigors and pressures of the highest office require impeccable resilience, an inner strength. So far, he has proved to lack that.

  4. The Presidential elections are just about 12 months away and all is clear that things are gearing up. The political temperature is bound to rise even higher as we draw near to the day. And the nation is watching, every step the Politician takes. This is not a time for the aspirant to whimper and throw tantrums. There will certainly be more poking to be done.

What are the battles before HH, what hurdles lie ahead before he submits his candidature at the Chief Justice office?

  5. His Party (UPND) in pact with Sata’s (PF) must choose between the two of them to lead. Therefore if ever HH intends to lead the nation, he must in the first place face his partner (Sata) in battle. This will be the preliminary round. This is one of his demons and nightmares. Fate demands that he cannot shy away from this battle.

HH cannot afford to be viewed as negotiating for a position from Mr. Sata. That will be the end of him.

The basic aim to form a party is to lead the nation. Any message by the Party leader that supposes that the highest office is secondary will not hold. It is inconceivable that one could form a party only to aspire for an office less that the goal. Any person who aspires to lead the nation cannot do so with a secondary objective. He would be a laughing…

  6. Any person who aspires to lead the nation cannot do so with a secondary objective. He would be a laughing stock.

That is why even those who have hardly been able to have enough supporters at the final declaration of interests will still go ahead to stand as Presidential aspirants. In Politics there are no assured positions of appointment. For HH to assume he will be appointed by Sata as his Vice, in a PF government is just utter recklessness and the worst Political naivety ever.

  7. The demons that confront HH will not sit with him and negotiate a settlement of interests, no! He must make up his mind to face his adversary. What complicates the matter is that he is not dealing with a preliminary within his own party but with another independent party.

Mufumbwe if it goes HH’s way will only make it worse because whilst it might prove that he is gaining popularity, it will however threaten to tip the balance away from Mr. Sata. He must face the man who called him a ‘calculator boy’ before He ever dreams to make appointment with the Chief Justice to file his nomination papers.

  8. Mr. Michael Sata, it seems has so far taken it for granted that he is the most popular between the two and as such the default candidate, portrayed by the ‘Post’ as the mature and natural option.

When HH was given to lead the UPND, the instruction handed him was to rule the nation. This is the expectation from the grass root and the Party hierarchy. On joining the ‘pact’ the promise was with the view to win Sata’s support, who is expected to ‘return a favour’ with history in view. There is no other expectation from HH’s supporters outside this.

  9. This is precisely why the Party stalwart, Major Chizyuka, has been under attack from within the ranks, refusing to buy into Mr. Sata’s promise. This is the thin line by which the Party holds – HH’s promise that he will lead the ‘pact’. Failure to deliver the promise will mean doom to HH and his Political life.

This explains so much why the Mufumbwe seat means so much to him, it will give him that extra confidence besides giving hope to his supporters that he means business

  10. Will the staunch grass root supporters take kindly when they hear that in fact HH has accepted to fall for a deputized position under Sata? For that matter even within Sata’s PF, the Party figures such- Guy Scott, Given Lubinda who considered themselves eligible will not take kindly to such a proposition.

  11. Hey Imwe from PACT don’t disappoint me with your choices. This fatty kapompa Saladi should not bounce back to the presidential platform. Please be wise and stay together. As they say “alone we fall togather we win”. And you tribalist from either tonga or bemba please do not try to act on tribal lines during elections we need to kick this fatty man right in the A S S. So please vote wisely.

  12. Mwata,

IT’S CHAWAMA Vs. MAPATIZYA OPTION WHICH WAY TO GO PACT?

LETS WAIT AND SEE HOW HH’S MAPATIZYA OPTION WILL DEALWITH SATA WHO HAS HIS CHAWMAWA OPTION IN THE PACT AGAINST.

Haaah haaaah haaaah! Chawama Vs. Mapatizya. I hope they don’t abduct and kill each other God forbid.

  13. Yet again he has championed our cause very much keeping government working bla bla bla…i however seem to be at a loss when i think about democracy in PF…or if it is a party which is to last once Sata is gone, lets face it-the old man will not be here for long (as in politics)…he has dominated PF and i for one is very much interested to know who is going to stand in 2011…probably the same opposition leaders as last time. Personally, i wouldnt vote MMD and i think Sata has issues coming from UNIP, to MMD to PF…serious personal interests at play…Hachilima…cant help thinking about the way he came on the scene backed traditional bla bla bla…we have a problem mudala…ni LESA chaba…GOD BLESS THE LAND…at times who is it shall led us to our rest as Zambians…

  14. MWATA-We read all that staff-Give chance to serious people to air their views–sorry but only true!!!

The opposition should have a better strategy to kick out RB and his fellow failures. It is not only about UPND and PF–it is all opposition and Citizens getting together and move forward with one leader that will stand on behalf and for others to see our motherland through.

There is nothing good about the MMD/Kabonde pact..I LOVE ZAMBIA MY MOTHERLAND

  15. MAWATA/SEN.CITIZEN.
Plse let s share space, moreover we are aware now that you are ONE and same person!!!!!!

  16. Its sad to read these disturbing uterances by the opposition leaders. I wish to congratulate HH for grabbing Solwezi and Mufumbwe it adds to the number of MPs on his ticket, bravo.
While PF retained their seat in Kasama UPND grabbed seats from the rulling party. It is a step in the right direction for UPND and they seem to be gaining momentum very fast.
I cant imagine SATA as republican president, we will be a luaghing stock in the face of the world. SATA is a joker and should not be taken seriously and can not provide a reasonable solution for Zambia. All Zambians who mean well know that HH is a better altternative though Magande or Gen Miyanda would have been better.

  17. the interest of coming up with up with this PACT is to remove MMD. So whoever will be the president in the PACT, we will vote for him. Whether HH or SATA we will still go for the pact. Mwata greatness is in what you give and not what you get. Attaining greatness can be explained in many ways and your way is fruitless. We dont know what aggreement the two parties made to PACT but MMD will be woken in rude shock and it will be to let to reliase what the PACT was all about. What of somebody else apart from SATA and HH was choosen as a presidential candidate when MMD’s focus is on the two leaders? believe me MMD would drown as they wont have anything to boot about

  18. UPND grabbed meat from the lion’s mouth by getting Mufumbwe which MMD vowed to retain whether with violence or not. The formular UPND used was not violent, but they blocked all stealing avenues of the MMD. For example, there are areas in Mufumbwe where the opposition have never visited because of accessibility. Miluji and Musonweji are two of these areas. Usually, MMD gets there by chopper. This time, UPND made an undertaking to camp their capable and enlightened members of parliament like Ackson Sejani, Jack Mwiimbu, Luxon Kazabu, Request Muntanga in these areas to watch the MMD activities. Hence it because extremely difficult for MMD to steal the votes. MMD should not cry fowl, they have been beaten cleanly

  19. Iwe Chimwata you dont get tired of writing you boaring comments. People know your objectives. We can clearly see your intent and purposes through this rubbish you are writing. But rest assured you wont manage to divide us. you are waisting your time.

  20. Down fall of PACT, no sooner than now. HH must bend his tail to SATA and wait for his instrunctions. I partially agree with Mwata # 1, surely the anticipated break away of PACT will give RB a greater success, Mwanya bane.

  21. MWATA/SEN.CIZEN has run mad. he is now talking to himself. hahahah iliko bad ka?

Coming to this issue. There is no problem with who becomes president for the pact. People have to be ready to vote for who ever is made pact president period. I will vote for who ever is president. Whether Sata or HH. What I cant is parties working together for the common good- development of Zambia. I know that once the two parties come into power there will tight countability from the two camps. No corruption by one camp for it will be exposed by the other camp. Thats my relief. Go go Sata, o go HH, go go PACT period!!!:)>-:)>-:)>-

  22. By saying SATA and HH will both contest the 2010 prezidential electionz, somebody, somewhere think they are destroying the PACT. On the contrary, they are just creating an environment for the PACT to grow even stronger.

  23. All those pro-Pact supporters who listened to the program on phoenix should indeed worry cos Sata made it clear that he is contesting the 2011 and beyond. This means if HH is adopted,no Pact cos Sata will still contest.Kakoma also comfirmed that there is no presidential Pact. This song of the Pact is a fallacy and a dream far-fetched cos the players are not sincere with themselves and dont want to face facts until when it will be too late(hot) to handle thereby giving RB outright advantage.Where is my Chipimo.I need his manifesto.I have enough patience to wait than embrace visionless opposition!!

  24. Mwata/ Senior Shitizen, what is good for both of Sata and HH? The two to have one president and all their members in Parliament and cabinent, and not forming gonvt and yet both of them keeping wasting their money through campains for ever? Your thinking Mwata senior shitizen can be bought by a dull person. HH or Sata even if one of them wont be president, both of them will run the gonvt coz they have a memorandum of understanding. They will both have access to gonvt resources and hence develop Zambia together. Its lets go Sata, Lets go HH , LETS GO PACT .=;=;

  25. So Mwata, after all your ranting can you offer a suggestion of what should be done in terms of the pact presidency. You know as well as I do that neither HH nor Sata can win on their own and hence this pact arrangement. As you well know’ HH will win Southern Province, pick some votes in Western and NW thats all. Given this do you in your right mind think or imagin he can amount to anything. Be real you tribal fanatic and be practical. The pact is the best option and then turns in leadershi. Those hard core tribalists in the province need to be convenced by pipo like you that it is the best option and they have no choice

  26. On ““For now there is no presidential pact. The candidate is unknown,”… Mr Kakoma, however, said the pact was working at modalities on how the selection process for the candidates at presidential, parliamentary and local Government would be done” in tha above followed by ““Although there is a limit to which one can stretch himself, there is nothing wrong with contesting more than once. It is a blessing. Besides, we have not chosen a candidate for the pact yet,” he [Mr PF/Michael Chilufya Sata] said” according to the Zambia Daily Mail of today under the title/Headline ‘No early polls’, it is clear that Mr PF/MC Sata is just a decoy to threaten the MMD while the real presidential candidate of the UPND-PF PACT is likely to be president HH by…

  27. Continuing on ““Although there is a limit to which one can stretch himself, there is nothing wrong with contesting more than once. It is a blessing. Besides, we have not chosen a candidate for the pact yet,” he [Mr PF/Michael Chilufya Sata] said” according to the Zambia Daily Mail of today under the title/Headline ‘No early polls’, it is clear that Mr PF/MC Sata is just a decoy to threaten the MMD while the real presidential candidate of the UPND-PF PACT is likely to be president HH by God’s grace; I would like to ask the mighty UPND Team to qucikly ditch the UPND-PF PACT so that I can join the campaign team to make sure the UPND begins to sell 2011 presidential candidate HH seriously in Eastern, Northern and Luapula Provinces.

The rest of the Zambian provinces…

  28. Continuing on “I would like to ask the mighty UPND Team to qucikly ditch the UPND-PF PACT so that I can join the campaign team to make sure the UPND begins to sell 2011 presidential candidate HH seriously in Eastern, Northern and Luapula Provinces… The rest of the Zambian provinces are ok” and under control.

There is need to reach every Youth Zambian across the named 3 provinces where the mighty UPND Group is not very popular so that they can induct their elders to vote wisely for the UPND in 2011 general elections. Time to mobilise human resource and finances from all wellmeaning Zambians is now. UPND does not need to look to president HH for everything.

    B blest.
    _
Matt 6:33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God and His righteousness and all these things shall be added…

  29. Zambia does not need to have a President who is not literate as evidenced in ““What does Dora Siliya got to do with the Economic Forum…but anyway he should transfer her to either commerce or finance. He should make finance minister Dr Situmbeko Musokotwane, commerce minister Felix Mutati minister of education and then give one of those portfolios to her,”” Mr PF/MC Sata said according to today’s POST Newspaper under the title “Be truthful on Kunda’s condition, Sata asks govt“.

Therefore, the only serious opposition party in Pariliament currently with its best manifesto and constitution for Zambia is the mighty UPND. I hope all see the sense.

    B blest.
    _
Matt 6:33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God and His righteousness and all these things shall be…

  30. On ““Anyway, we understand she is very close to Zamtel… and she comes from Petauke, so Dr Rupiah Banda would like her to be nearby. Those are wrong things.”” Mr PF/Sata MC said by the POST again in the article referred to above in posting 33, when did Mr President RB Banda become a Doctor (Dr), Doctor of or in what? On ““There is a very big crack in MMD. I give you 90 days and you will see,” he [Mr MC Sata] said… “He says he has a file on me, but who says I don’t have a file on him?”” This is very interesting stuff and I hope to read more of such statements to startle the MMD.

    Have a blessed day all;
    _
Matt 6:33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God and His righteousness and all these things shall be given unto you.

  31. DO not waste time with mwata he is a beneficiary of the brown evenlope, these are guys who have sold Zambia for a coin to the chinese

  32. UPND, listen and listen good. This semi-literate man, this snake, is not in with the so-called Pact. He’s in this for HIMSELF, not even for the people. Ditch the pact. gert rid of the snake; it’ll bite you. In my language, we say, “Saba noha y’e ku ndwendukezi.” I ka ku luma.

  33. Ba Sata I thought you agreed with HH that you will only reveal who will stand in 2011 when the “right time comes”….if am not mistaken thats the reason why HH even went to the extent of saying “RB has a small brain”.
HH : ” we have already said this time and again ,again again,we will name the pact presidential candidate AFTER we have had consultations and mutual agreements.Anyone who has not understood this explanation has a small brain”.
Lelo fyachinja shani ifintu naimwe ba NGOSHE?

  34. What a joke, ‘there is no presidential pact’. So will the ‘parliamentary and local government’ pact continue or should we forgot about the pact at all levels now?
RB must be smilling at this clear fragmentation.

  35. If you are UPND, you must be quite stu.pid to have trusted a snake in the first place, he is DEFINETLY standing in 2011

  36. #38
Sata vindicated RB and the big-brained HH is left wondering. Its simply shows that HH doesnt know everything about the Pact and his views does not represent that of the Pact(but UPND)

  37. HH quoted in the Post :“Anybody who tells you that somebody is a candidate; if he tells you Hakainde is a candidate, he is lying. If he tells you Sata is a candidate, that person has a small brain because we have said this over and over again, again and again. Only a dull person, only a person with a small brain may not understand that this is the position we have given. The only reason that Rupiah talks about it Pact is because he is scared. I am in Kasempa where they are saying it is their stronghold, people want change.”

  38. As quoted above : “Mr Sata said the UPND and the PF had different constitutions and manifestos that did not have many contradictions in them”.
my question is :so these pipo have even CONTRADICTIONS.?
Can any one of you PACT followers tell me honestly if this pact will hold till 2011?please convince me,coz I want to join you.

  39. It is now time for HH to apologise to that UPND hero, Chizhyuka. And Chizhyuka should now be the UPND presidential candidate as his foresight has now been proven, HH is too NAIVE and is now soiled by the insult training he obtained from association with Mr Sata.

  40. #20 kays, why are you pushing an open door. This report tells you in no uncertain terms that there will be no PACT presidential candidate. That has come out clearly from Mr Sata and confirmed by Mr Kakoma. So where are you trying to lead the rest of us? You guys always remind me of the tale of the ostrich and the sand!

  41. Pact leaders are not honest with us the followers. This one says time will come to announce the leader the other one says I will stand at all cost. Advise to HH and team please let us go for plan “B” enough is enough we are dealing with Kaponyas who have no diplomacy. We may start pointing figures and MMD will just laugh at us as fools. We still have time to put our house in order.

  42. The Pact can only work if they had agreed Earlier on who should Lead the Pact and by now the canditate this time would have gained ground, now PF will be going to the Convention in November as for UPND we don’t Know .After the convention expect divisions in the two Parties and eventually the Presidents may also differ on who should lead , but Sata will never agree to be Lead by HH going by past perfomance where Sata has always performed better than HH.
So someone somewere should swallow his pride.

  43. For now each president of the party, PF or UPND is very free to sell himself. What happened to obama and clinton?. Ba Mastro you have your name to Mufumwe Dyonko.

  44. UPND is better off with PF. and shud HH campaign on his own he would fare better than sata. If i was in UPND i would be advocating for the firing of top UPND advisers.
