UPND declares Mufumbwe by-election free, fair

Share

United Party for National Development (UPND) has declared the Mufumbwe election as free and fair.
But MMD has said its decision to petition the Mufumbwe elections had sent shivers to opposition parties as that would expose their wrong doings.

Speaking during a Press briefing in Lusaka yesterday, UPND vice-president Richard Kapita said the petition by the ruling party would undermine the office of the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ).

He said ECZ conducted the polls in a free and fair manner and argued that the violence should be separated from the election outcome.

MMD Spokesperson Dora Siliya has said the MMD did not believe in violence because it was a democratic party but believes that the best way of airing complaints was through petitioning in the courts of law.

“As a party we have made up our mind to petition the Mufumbwe elections so that we establish the truth.
We know that our decision has sent shivers because our opponents are worried of the outcome,” he said.

  1. The ghosts HH must wrestle with

‘Assumption is the mother of all failures’ so it is said. HH is making a terrible assumption if he thinks Sata will allow him to lead the ‘pact’. Sata has not even as much as once allowed anyone in his Party (PF) to challenge his leadership. So why on earth does HH think that the ‘Cobra’ will give him such a favour, on a silver platter? Surely HH cannot be so naïve!

It would seem on the bare face of it that if anyone in PF showed even a slight intention to challenge Sata’s leadership, that person would literally be bitten by his bare teeth. So how on earth has HH come to the conclusion that he has become so good buddies with he, who by the way, not long ago called HH a ‘calculator boy’, that he will now hand him the candidacy?

  2. I’ll contest 2011 polls, vows Sata

OPPOSITION Patriotic Front (PF) president Michael Sata has vowed he will contest the 2011 election and continue to vie for the presidency even if he loses next year’s polls.

Mr Sata said he did not mind how many times he lost and cited some presidents whom he claimed had lost up to nine times before being elected.

Speaking during a live programme, ‘Facce the Media’ on Radio Phoenix yesterday, Mr Sata said there were no limits on how many times someone could contest elections.

Mr Sata said there were several other presidents in other countries such as Senegal and the United States of America who made more than several attempts but still managed to become president.

Mr Sata dared Government to even call for an impromptu…

  3. He said the PF and the UPND were different parties working together based on a common understanding and should not be mistaken to be one political party.

Mr Sata said the UPND and the PF had different constitutions and manifestos that did not have many contradictions in them.

“The PF and the UPND have different doctrines but we have agreed to work together. We are working well with Mr Hakainde Hichilema,” he said.

However, Mr Sata came under attack from some callers who accused him of having attempted to promote his wife to higher position at the University Teaching Hospital (UTH) when he was health minister.

A caller Mr Kaunda said Mr Sata tried to promote his wife but the attempts failed because of some interventions

  4. CIRCUS AT ITS BEST

And UPND spokesperson Charles Kakoma said there was nothing wrong with Mr Sata stating that he would run for the 2011 elections.

He said all pact members were free to declare intentions to contest elections and at any level.

“For now there is no presidential pact. The candidate is unknown,” he said.

Mr Kakoma, however, said the pact was working at modalities on how the selection process for the candidates at presidential, parliamentary and local Government would be done.

  5. UPND won so what is the problem with this fatty RB. I wonder if he is even able to climb the ka wife with that big tammy of his. I am sure so
ebidy else is doing that for him maybe William Banda.I D I O T president we have I my nice country. Now he is gone to TZ with Dora. What is she doing there? The issue there is about economics and not mediocre education she ministers in Zed. Bane kuchula uku.

  6. “…Speaking during a Press briefing in Lusaka yesterday, UPND vice-president Richard Kapita said the petition by the ruling party would undermine the office of the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ)….”????
“…..He said ECZ conducted the polls in a free and fair manner and argued that the violence should be separated from the election outcome……” ??????? come again?? Are you among the intelligent people that will form part of the cabinet of “President Hichilema” next year?
Mr Kapita, of course the elections are free and fair when your party wins, the ruling party sings the same song when it wins! So who is right? Let the election petition and the law tell us.

  7. So they fail RBee and want a scapegoat in petition. They are embarrassed that despite RBee spending so many nights in Mufumbwe they lost!! wake up Dora, its time to move to the PACT!! Please also tell the boss to get onto the PACT!

  8. 20 years Zambia will never recover! Looking at the blogs on this site, am left to think that fresh minds are no longer trust worthy when it comes to thinking progressively. surely looking at the way zambia has been razed, raped, abused, exploited by these chaps called the MMD, one has the audacity to stand up and say tosh. No wonder development has eluded this country for so long a period. we have allowed ourselves to be ruled by mediocre leaders. for once zedians stop hero worshipping people. have in mind that politics is not a life time career and must not be business venture for the few minions. All people are capable as long as limits are set by which powers can be accessed and used. why fear your own shadows baice imwe? Zambia can be a better place to be like the zed i lived in.

  11. Let the MMD petition the results.

On the otherhand, where are the directly quoted words of the UPND official. To the best of my knowledge president HH has maintained that the MMD must petition the Mufumbwe results so that the mighty UPND Group can show us Zambians what exactly MMD did to intimidate voters and then try to vote buy votes from the electorate.

Let MMD prove to us Zambians that they have always been compromising the ECZ as written above by the UPND official.

    Have a blessed day all;

Matt 6:33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God and His righteousness and all these things shall be given unto you.

  12. #9,10,11 Love your blog – most cut-and-paste nit-wits are spammers who need to be censored **==

  13. Where is Zambia heading??? I am of the view that the republican president should not be attached to any political party. Full time president who can welcome any newly elected MP regardless of which political party s/he is from.

Lack of knowlledge of multipart system is destroying and hindering nation development as fighting amongst those political parties is ongoing. A republican president is reffered `*having small brain* .. these insults and many others could be avoided if the president has no support to any political part during his tenure.

Vice president = day to day running of the gvt (can belong of be the chairman of any political part)
President = state affairs (Should not be Chairman/pres of any political part. or should resign upon being elected to a void bias)

  14. But Mr. Kapita, isn’t this the essence of true democracy where the ruling Party loses and intends to petition the result in a court of law in conformity with the rule of law?
