Mabenga has no right to stop Magande and I -Mpombo

George Mpombo (kneeling)

Former Defence Minister George Mpombo says MMD Chairman Michael Mabenga has no right to stop either him or former Finance Minister Ng’andu Magande from contesting the MMD presidency.

In a telephone interview with QFM, Mr. Mpombo said it is not possible for Mr. Mabenga to be a hindrance to interested people who want to challenge President Rupiah Banda at the MMD convention.

Mr. Mpombo said Mr. Mabenga’s statement that both him and Mr. Magande are not eligible to stand for the MMD presidency because they are not in good standing with the party is not valid.

He accused Mr. Mabenga of taking the matter personal, doubting his utterances as to whether they have the endorsement of other party officials.

Meanwhile, Mr. Mpombo has vowed to fight his way in the party. He reiterated that he will go ahead and challenge President Banda at the convention because the party manifesto allows him to do so.

MMD National Chairman Michael Mabenga was recently quoted as saying that Mr. Mpombo and his Chilanga counterpart Ng’andu Magande are ineligible to contest the presidency at the national convention because of their poor relations with the party leadership.

Mr. Mabenga said the constitution only allowed members in good standing with the ruling party to contest any position.

He said Mr. Mpombo and Mr. Magande, who have also gone public about their intentions to run for the party presidency, were not enjoying any constitutional powers that could guarantee their candidature after de-campaigning their own party on many instances.

  1. Who then will Contest the MMD Presidenecy?? I thought Magande was the best Candidate in MMD if they are to compete favourably with the Pact? RB is not a match to the support the pact has currently!!

  2. Mpombo and Magande are becoming irrelevant. These are the same chaps who are telling us the MMD will definitely lose next year’s elections and yet at the same time want to lead the party as President. Instead of just waffling they are better off leaving the MMD seeing that they don’t agree with its leadership. What chance has Mpombo of winning the MMD Presidency knowing how grassroot cadres behave? Even if say Mpombo or Magande became President of the MMD will that all of a sudden translate the MMD into a winning party? Can anyone see either of them beating the candidate of the Pact, assuming they field one candidate? This is just a circus with clowns and muppets exiciting themselves and getting their fellow clowns and muppets in the audience excited.

  3. Is it because he knelt before the late President (MHSRIP) that the duicker thinks he is presidential material?lol. Mpombo literally licked the boots of LPM to get into cabinet again after he was kicked out of Cabinet for his dismal performance as Energy Minister. If we as Zambians think the likes of Mpombo should lead us as President we are the most to be pitied!!!

Instead of wasting his money on irrelevant phone conversations, Mpombo should work hard on his farm and contribute to national development. This man is lazy, very lazy. These are the chaps who look to be elected not to serve but to be served. His only reason for all he says is not to enhance democracy in our country but to get taxpayers money for doing nothing. Politicians in Zambia are a disgrace and not worth listening to!

  4. Every phool who has issues with Lupiya Banda suddenly becomes a hero to some of his or her fellow dimwits. This is so laughable, saddenning and nuaseating. To imagine that their wishful thinkers at some sections of the media jump up and lap up the crap to try and feed it to the Zambian masses, phew. What crass stupidity.

  5. Love the photo! I think it says it all. Late Mwanawasa seems to be rather disinterested. Mpombo forgets that it was his hero who made RB vice president. Also, wasn’t Magande soundly beaten by RB in 2008 and now he wants to get back into the ring for round 2?

  6. This is interesting to read. I propose that the MMD should include a clause in their constitution that you cannot contest any elections if you have “poor relations with the party leadership”. They should also remove the “democray” from their MMD thing! I don’t see any democracy here. Let the old man stand and prove himself. MMD – Matuvi Mwamwa Dealers = mmd, chabe!

Kwena you are emotional and in love with ba MMD….i would imagine if you would say the same things had it been Machungwa and rebel group saying that about Sata and/or PF Pact, learn to balance and see sense…there is nothing wrong in Mpombo and Magande challenging your master…be real.

  9. CHILUWE-KAVINDELE VERSION 2

No doubt Mpombo and his Chilanga counterpart Magande are inconsequential political trolls without a future, base or indeed predisposition not even in imagined identity political dispensation. If the poor politicians hopelessly struggle at constituency not even at district or provincial level, say you what of the complicated diverse national constituency where political forces and challenges are insurmountable?

Just wondering what and whom the two comedians think would rally behind them under any dispensation? Their held myth is that the editorial of the tabloid is MMD vote.Alas, MMD is a people’s vote driven party where predisposition matter. This circus is nothing but a version 2 Chiluwe or Kavindele 1991 and 2002 episode.

  10. We wish them a dawn of peace and reality in power politics. No doubt Mpombo is a daft uneducated man, but Magande though politically useless as an economist he should have shown rational and value judgment. Politics is a serious social science that comes with dividends if you apply sound data from serious research works savvy strategists recommend.

  11. How does Magande expect MMD at the convention to vote him in when he has been delusively trumpeting that Zambians have settled for change with any political monster in the arena regardless of party formation other than MMD? If Magande believes MMD is not an option, then why is he in this goose chase of dreaming to rule it in oblivion?

Do these parodies think the partisan establishment has muted its tools and apparatus against such authentic cheap and reckless street kind of unsophisticated vulnerable subversive actors?????

  12. Let every phool enjoy his freedom of imagination and dreaming. It is ok for comedians like Mpombo and the Post puppet Magande to dream of dislodging Banda from the presidency. However, we the rational should help them and their handlers into understanding how futile their efforts are. We look forward to more laughter in tomorrows Post. Sadly it will just end like that. laughter and only laughter.

  13. this country of our untill all of us learn to be honest to our ourselves and get enough infromation on the ground on how the people of zambia are living particularly those in rural area then will know but where should we go in next year. And any government who thinks can rule the country for ever then we will continue to produces government leadership which will be selfish and no vision for country. When person says am challenging the rb in party and those support blindly argue without checking in the party constitution if is allowed. i think some pipo like senior citizen are hired to do dirty work to direct debate in a different way because seriously what they say, they must be sadist and they will die painfully because their ideas are not real in normal setup. we need to support for both…

  14. Mabenge must never take anybody for a ride. This bandi must concentrate on paying back the constituency development funds he syphoned that were meant for Mulobezi.

  15. Maganba and Mpondo must form their own party. These chaps have no sound educational background who have survived politically by clinging to our brains in the MMD. Everytime they open their mouths they utter jibberish! Personally I would allow them to attend the convetion so they embarass themselves when they flop and get whooped by our strong candidate Mr. Rupiah Bwezani Banda. RB will rule way beyond 2011 and Zambia will flourish with milk and honey from East to West, Bemba to Tongas! VIVA MMD!!!!!!!!!!!

  16. On “… He [Hon MP Geroge Mpombo] reiterated that he will go ahead and challenge President Banda at the convention because the party manifesto allows him to do so… Mr. Mabenga said the constitution only allowed members in good standing with the ruling party to contest any position” who is saying the correct thing? Is it the MMD party constitution or manifesto that allows party members of whatever standing to stand for certain positions at an MMD convention?

I hope MMD through its national chairman is not making a fool out of themselves.

Anyhow, I hope MMD MPs Magande and Mpombo will be able to contest the MMD presidency before they can lose honourably if that happens. Competition needs to be allowed as opposed to using dictatorship in the MMD.

    B blest…
