Now Government demands apology from Post Newspaper, Sata

Information Minister Ronnie Shikapwasha

Government has demanded for an apology from The Post Newspaper and Patriotic Front leader Michael Sata for the lies they have been perpetuating against President Rupiah Banda and his government.

Chief Government Spokesperson Ronnie Shikapwasha said the Post Newspaper, in its desperate and fruitless campaign against President Rupiah Banda’s government has continued to peddle lies through its spokesperson PF leader Michael Sata and others.

Lieutenant General Shikapwasha who is also Information and Broadcasting Minister said the conduct of the Post Newspaper leaves much to be desired.

He said the Newspaper has conducted its self so unethically and unprofessionally that requests for an apology or retraction of falsehoods it has published, have gone unheeded.

He stated in a statement made available to ZANIS in Lusaka Wednesday that it has not been too long ago that the Post Newspaper, quoting their usual non-existing sources, lied that South African President Jacob Zuma was not aware of President Banda’s visit to that country when in fact, the two heads of state were meeting at the time in South Africa.

The Minister said government proved this fact, but that as usual, the Post never retracted their false story.

He further said at the height of the National Constitutional Conference (NCC) debates, the Post lied that Zambia has had a 50 plus one electoral provision in the constitution.

Lt Gen Shikapwasha said the paper never retracted the lie even when it was clearly proved that this had never been the case in the country’s constitutional history.

“And few days ago, State House Chief of Staff Dr Austin Sichinga, in a statement, dismissed more lies by the Post Newspaper where it was shamelessly alleged that Chadian President Idris Derbie Itno, had sneaked into the country and held a meeting with President Banda in Mfuwe”, He stated.

He said Dr Sichinga also went to great lengths to clarify and confirm the fact that President Banda never flew to Cape Town for review of his knee on his way for a state visit in Namibia recently.

“I shudder to imagine this is the newspaper in the forefront of calling for voluntary media regulation: to volunteer more lies unrestrained?” Lt Gen Shikapwasha asked.

He said Government wishes to assure the people of Zambia that it has a duty to protect them from falsehoods and disinformation because such have potential to breed disharmony and disunity in the nation.

“To this effect, Government demands that the Post Newspaper and Mr Sata apologies, unreservedly for the lies they have been perpetuating against his Excellency President Rupiah Bwezani Banda and his government. This is the correct and honorable thing to do”, the Minister stated.

  1. there was a nice documentary on the post newspapers over the weekend am told on muvi tv. anybody seen it?

  2. Ba shikapwasha, please, grow up. Just because your President was caught pants down and had to apologize does not mean that Sata and the Post must apologize for the truth they have given to the nation. Are you going to ask Sata to apologize for that pay slip for Thandiwe as ghost worker too? Please.

Sata will only apologize when you guys tell the nation and verified the people Banda at Mfuwe. So, if you want an apology, go pound sand.

  3. you cant force some to appologies, it should come from someones heart…not even GOD can force a person to appologies.

  4. Thinking through his bigger than life nose. The only man in the world with his brain in the nose.Bwezani caught pants down.Am sure the indians are thinking twice funding Mwenye Bwezani Banda come 2011.

  5. Give uninihibited space to the Chadian Government to pursue and initiate litigations against them. Let them get sued by the Chadian Government and prove when, how and where the Chadian head of state visited zambia this year. Recall how they costed Zambian tax payers in 1992 to pay US $ 10 million on the Scotland yard who were brought in the country to investigate their lie that KK had starched US $4 billion off-shore.The Chadian Government must ruthlessly move against them to show and prove this lie. Never defend them or treat them with kids gloves.

  6. No.7 the $10m you talking about was paid by chiluba becoz of the hate he had for kaunda. the post has never been in government infact ypur boss says the are not even a fact in zambian politics. why is everyone jumping around in the post is not a factor.

  7. Some “people”it will be difficult to apologize, because they will start to tender the apology to:
    -the chiefs
    -the tribal cousins(icimbuya)
    -the voters in certain provinces
    -the list is endless……………………

  8. An apology based on what? Politiking. Shame. Dont waist our time. Conduct yourselves well and you will be spared from political innuendo which attract for big NEWS in tabloid. Thats how they make money and at the end of the day no matter how you mismanage the TAX they remit to you.

  9. If you are a regular blogger then you may recall that I posted on how the MMD will never steal and put the loot in foreign accounts because its risky learning from How Kafupi lost the loot! They have come up with a way of keeping their loot right here in Zambia in Mfuwe underground! Soon this information will be in the papers for everybody to see just like the tunnels FTJ exposed from the state house.

  10. No one is to apologise to anybody. RB apologisied because he called HH wife a mwenye. RB is a racist and trabalist. what a shame

  11. Thank you LT
Ladies and gentlemen, I would like to thank LT for its expedience reaction to my complaints of the FAKE MMD Bum LIcker in South Africa who was impersonating my blogs! LT has blocked him from blogging on my name that I have worked so hard to grow.\
Coming to the topic on hand, It will be necessary for the Post and Sata to either apologize or disclose the source of their story! I for one believes in human relations although I have information of the tunnels in Mfuwe! This is what made the MMD recall me from my duties at the embassy but Im always a step further and I will complete my journalism course here in the USA before I heard home after elections!

  12. When a child lies, you just laugh. When an adult lies, it is a shame and he or she has to apologise. One expects adults to tell the truth always, but not children. The child is The Post, and the adult is the government. That is how it works.

  13. # 16 Well Said
Just your a father’s lies are bigger than his children’s! Very wise words # 16.

  14. Ba Ronnie Shikapwasha, tell the people how you are going to develop Zambia if you think The Post and Mr.Sata talk too much.

  15. We have very serious problems in country measles outbreak, delayed salaries, unemployment, squarters at independence stadium etc but we have a Government focussing on non-issues.Please for once let address real issues even if it is was Abama who had sneaked in , I would not be bothered.

  16. Sata is quiet on this matter coz he must have something up his sleeves. Chiimbwi pakulila…..

  17. This is so petty,Shrek apologized,no need to force people to apologize for the nonsense that is happening in Zambia.Zambia is really paying for havivg foreigners as Presidents, what a laughing stock of a country

  18. U cant force a person to apologize.if sata told lies n he refuses to apologise then fyn.he wont be @ peace.

  19. What nonsense is this? RB apologised simple as that. Why should other people be forced to do like wise.

  20. Why do our politicians spend so much time talking instead of delivering tangible development to the people of Zambia.Look, talking or arguing will not take our country forward,All other countries are busy delivering development to their people,we are even being surpassed by countries like Tanzania and now Congo DRC.Please for God’s sake concentrate on your jobs politicians cos that is what you are paid and pampered for.

  21. #29 yazanda says:
“Why do our politicians spend so much time talking instead of delivering tangible development to the people of Zambia.Look, talking or arguing will not take our country…….” BECAUSE THEY ARE SHORT ON IDEAS SO SURVIVE IN POWER THEY HAVE TO OUT DO THE OPPOSITION WITH THE MOUTH

  22. mk the vernacular name for Indians/Asians is nsami (corrupt version for Sammy) as the Bemba’s couldn’t/t pronounce Sammy? Mwenye is infact Nsenga/ Nyanja or from Eastern province. While there is no malice in calling someone ‘mwenye’ it’s the way you say ‘nigger’ or Negro to a black man but it is acceptable to say it from one black man to another. I believe in todays modern times people should go beyond calling someone by their tribe. In the past ba Kachoke or Kaluvale were well known for cleaning toilets and people from Eastern Province made good ‘house servants.’ Today we have seen people from North Western excelling even more than people from any other Province in Zambia.

  23. OK, so RB’s apology was simply a strategy to try and the spiral of apologies going?

  24. Unless there was something sinister about the Bwezani Deby in Mfuwe, I for one do not think there is something in Sata’s allegation to warrant such a vernomous government responce. This really makes one think the old adage of not being smoke without fire is the classic one that has caught Bwezani and his big nose goon whence the panic. Though fro Zondwe Sata, I will be very careful, this government could “penza” him long before the polls. Also, if he suffers another heart attack, Bwezani will find it hard to airlift the serpent to morningside.

  25. Once all the people apologise. I will also follow suit to apologise for all the misleading statements to the Zambian people.

  26. ZAMBIAN POLITICS….awe shuwa….kuwaya-waya fye……………..Lesa fye eka ewaishiba uulanda icishinka noubepa…

  27. president banda is corrupt nd a thug 1 of pf lables frm northen province said to me president banda iz giving him 18milion and 150 bycycles. I can pruve this allegations.

  28. MMEMBE IS AN ALARMIST. HE IS PLAYING ON THE MIND OF THE ZAMBIANS SO THAT HIS PAPER KEEPS SELLING. MMEMBE IS A DANGEROUS CHARACTER. HE NEEDS TO BE DEPORTED BECAUSE HE IS NOT A ZAMBIAN AFTER ALL. THIS GUY IS THE CAUSE FOR NO DEVELOPMENT BY GOVERNMENT OF THE DAY BECAUSE HE RE-DIRECTS THEIR ATTENTION FROM DEVELOPMENTAL ISSUES TO CHASING IMAGINARY ENEMIES. THIS GUY IS ANSWERABLE FOR THE STATIC ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENTS IN OUR COUNTRY EVER-SINCE HE STARTED RUNNING POST NEWSPAPER. HE SHOULD BE STOPPED FROM MAKING FALSE PUBLICATIONS. SATA JUST FOLLOWS HIM BLINDLY. WORK ON MMEMBE, AN ALARMIST AND A CROOK.
