Namugala urges dialogue in Chiawa land wrangle

Share

Tourism Minister, Catherine Namugala has advised the people of Chiawa to resolve their land wrangles in collaboration with their traditional leaders.

Ms. Namugala says it is important that traditional leaders and their subjects dialogue whenever there is a problem between them.

Chiawa villagers have written a public letter in which they’re expressing concern over a community, they allege, has been sold by the traditional leadership.

In the letter, the villagers are further claiming that the respective camp was sold to a named foreign investor without their knowledge.

  1. It is very sad to see that our traditional leaders have joined the politicians in selling and giving away our land to foreigners. At a time when South Africa and Zimbabwe are trying to put back their land in the hands of indigenous people, Zambia seems to be doing the opposite, we are giving land to foreigners.

I wish black people could get land in Europe, China, Australia or india just like nationalities from these countries are getting land in Zambia. There is no single black person with land in these countries.
I live in Europe and it is even hard for a black person to rent a house, yet we are giving them hundreds of hectors of land. The minds of our leaders need to be decolonized so that they can value black people and their potentials instead of putting a white man first.

  2. This chief has to be stopped before she sells all her subjects land in lower Zambezi. She has now gone beyond the sound barrier of greed. In some places her subjects don’t even have access to the river front because there are lodges all over. This issue will haunt her descendants!

  3. Please fellow Zambians!!! Do you realise that land is very important for the citizenry? Please govnt $ chiefs stop this nonsense of giving away land to foreigners. One day we are going to see what happened in Zim. Peoples lives depend on land and as such you cannot deprieve them what belongs to Them Zambians.Foreign investment must have its limits.
