Chongwe Member of Parliament Sylvia Masebo and dozens of MMD members have officially defected to the opposition patriotic front.
Ms. Masebo who was flanked by indunas of chieftainess Nkomeshya Mukamambo announcing her defection to the PF at a mammoth rally held in Chongwe yesterday.
The parliamentarian says he she is relieved by joining the opposition political party adding that the leadership of president Rupiah Banda has lost direction.
She has also charged that president Banda is cheating the Zambian people by claiming to have delivered development since assuming office in 2008.
And Ms. Masebo has castigated the MMD for allegedly carrying political propaganda against PF leader Michael Sata.
Among the people who attended the rally was Chief Chimnuka of Chinsali, former health minister Nkandu Luo, former Lusaka province permanent secretary Susan Sikaneta and various PF members of parliament.
And receiving the defectors, PF leader Michael Sata said Ms. Masebo has made the right decision to join the PF.

With regards to Masebo’s comments that RB was just taken from the farm, let me remind all! Without RB, Levy would have lost the elections. While RB was at the farm with Thandiwe, Levy sent his machinery to go and beg RB to help him turn Eastern Province which was pro UNIP & UNDP. So when – Masebo was busy wearing 3 layers of foundation, makeup & hair extensions, RB was working hard silently for a year. In the end, he turned the fortunes in favor of MMD in the whole eastern province, which gave Levy a victory. Maureen cannot insult RB because she knows what he did for the husband even before he became Vice President.

My advice to the PF and SATA is that,they must campain to all the corners of zambia if they are to win these elections.Sata and the pf must tell the nation what they will do that mmd has not done or in short an issue based campain not just talking,talking senceless things.Sata is so much concentrating in urban areas and less in the rural areas.Sata and pf must in the mmd stronghold and sale the pf and himself if he wish to win the elections.

Lusaka — The MMD yesterday denied there was an exodus of members following the resignation of former vice-national treasurer Sylvia Masebo last week. MMD national secretary Michael Sata and provincial chairman Sonny Mulenga challenged Mrs Masebo to produce evidence of exodus she claimed on Sunday when she announced her resignation.
Sylvia Tembo Masebo is a let down and I hope the people of Choongwe will not allow her to behave as if he owns them. In fact, I hope all normal Zambian voters will not allow PF to think that PF owns their individual votes. As for Masebo’s MP bid under PF and Sata’s President of Zambia bid under PF, these two will not have it easy in Choongwe because the Real Change UPND Team is set to win the Choongwe votes by a land slide.
However, I wish Hon MP Masebo all the best in the new dictatorship she has joined called PF. I hope Hon Masebo is in PF only to weaken it and leave PF as a shell in good time to work with the winning UPND Team just before the 2011 elections.

Local Government and Housing Minister Benny Tetamashimba has reported his predecessor Sylvia Masebo to the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) and the auditor general concerning the purchase of hearses from China.
Temashimba said in an interview yesterday that he had directed his permanent secretary, Coillard Chibbonta, to report the matter to the ACC and the auditor general’s office for investigations.

It is not debatable that Masebo will be difficult to beat in Chongwe but as Independent Observer has mentioned she can be dislodged. I still think that RB will still beat Sata and HH in Chongwe. Unless of course voters do not see beyond their tribesman and therefore will vote with him/her whatever, the cost.

The problem in Chongwe is with the Chieftainess – she thinks and wants to behave like a Paramount Chief (sorry there is no Paramount Chief in Zambia who talks recklessly against Govt. like this overzealous woman). She seems to be very greedy. There are a lot of places that have received only a small fraction of what Chongwe has received in terms of development and yet they can attest to the fact that something is happening. Zambia is a big country. Everybody is crying for development from the (Govt.) and nobody is doing anything to supplement Govt. efforts (what is called laziness). Seriously she needs to be put in her right place. This is the same woman who “threated” to “evict” Mikango Barracks from her area a few months ago. She needs a visit from the Generals.

Developments in PF are pathetic. PF is bragging over Masebo will never be a factor in Chongwe. Masebo’s link to PF has annoyed many Chongwe residents. Many intellectuals know that Masebo & Kabimba joined the PF a long time ago. She has had very close intimate relationship with Kabimba as colleagues in Lusaka City Council, and has of late used Malipenga as an accessory tool. Demographic data of Chongwe reveals that the majority of inhabitants originate from Eastern Province. Other residents were immigrants of Zimbabwean-origin who were forced to settle in Chongwe by Welensky’s Federation of Rhodesia & Nyasaland to RB’s advantage. Chongwe is just one of the -contested area. Yet Sata has sleepless nights over his loss of Luapula votes.
The resentful attitude of the people of Luapula arising from Sata’s threats on Chiluba and his eventual open hatred exhibited by his failure to attend FTJ’s burial is a big agonising experience. Sata is so desperate that he has resorted to fishing from drying ponds. Interesting that The Post flashed Masebo joining of PF and ignored news of Kalusa’s joing MMD. Theoretically, Masebo just commanded support from 1x Constituency in Chongwe, yet Kalusa was a UPND’s National Youth Leader. This clearly explains the Post’s defective and biased style of journalism – a factor that has led to massive loss of readers of this tabloid.

Poverty levels are very high in Zambia. I visit Zambia every six months and I know what I am talking about. The MMD is bragging about “development” in Lusaka and perhaps eastern province. Go to the rural areas of the other provinces and you will see real poverty. It is like Zambia is part of Southern Sudan. Change of government is necessary in order to have leaders who have the welfare of the citizenry at heart.
