Sata goes through unopposed as PF leader, predicts polls date

Share

PF leader Michael Sata

Patriotic Front (PF) leader Michael Sata has been re-elected unopposed as president at the party’s first convention since its formation in 2001 and has predicted that this year’s general elections will be held on 27th August.

This comes as the country still awaits the announcement of the elections date by President Rupiah Banda.

MUVI TV’s reports that Mr Sata says he has been reliably informed that the polls were initially set for 11th August before being shifted to 27th August.

The outspoken opposition leader was speaking today when officially opening the PF national convention at Mulungushi University, in Kabwe.

At least 3,500 delegates are attending the convention, during which the party will also elect its national leadership.

Meanwhile, journalists from the public media have been barred from covering the convention.

And Mr Sata has accused government of misusing the public media.

He has told the PF convention that public media has lost its vision of informing, educating and entertaining.

Meanwhile, first republican president, Kenneth Kaunda was among several dignitaries, who attended the official opening of the PF convention.

Others were the ambassadors from Britain and the United States of America.

  1. Zambians and their national ruling party MMD respects any outcome of the PF opposed or unopposed. They are not expecting anything credible from the PF circus but candidly sympathize with Sata over his failed health. The battle lined up for Decision 2011 is not for the faint hearted or medically challenged too risk extremely a tenous race.MMD has succeffully finished its national wide nominations and logistics are in place country wide for some rambo in the jangle. MMD wins and wins period!

  2. ba editor dont cheat pipo.the whole party top positions have been desolved including the presidency and they are up for grabs any one who wants to contest is free.am here at the convention stop cheating if u want i can give u up to date information for free which balanced not yo lies

  3. Dr. Kaunda as founding father attend every party convention where invited just like foreign envoy. There is nothing peculiar with this. They attended UPND convention, recent MMD convention and will do so even for other remaining ones. The only difference is that MMD does not insult KK when he responds to PF invitation while PF insults him with every rehearsed and mastered insult in the PF manual. The country recalls how he was insulted when he attended MMD convention in Kabwe recently. The difference is civility and maturity.

  4. LT, state owned media, you see you continue with your delutional reporting. How did you get the information that Sata has been re-elected, when party executive will be elected tomorrow at 3pm?

  5. Congratulations Mr. Sata. Disappointing though that  journalists from the public media have been barred from covering the convention.

Democracy is easier when written down on paper. Most western countries who preach and claim to practice it actually “sensor” a number of speeches, comments before they publicise them and these are supposed to be pioneers of democracy, which of course brings me to us who have democracy “imposed” on us. We’ve seen how democratically elected leaders in Africa struggle to give away power after tasting it. Good luck to the media all over the world in their struggles in our so called democratic world.

    • aaaH the lesson is dont beleive third party info. wait for the official announcment!! thats how messengers get shot!!!hahaha

  6. I predict MMD is set to land a renewed 5 year mandate from Zambians on the back of realized national food security and unprecedented economic development seen by every hardworking citizen. This is as Zambia moves towards attaining herself a dignified economic status by 2014. Michael Sata will lose and cry foul as usual then make attempt to promulgate pockets of violence. The thugs will be systematically nabbed and summarily purged then a possibility of Sata suffering a stroke due to Hypertension from electoral humiliation may not come as a surprise.

  7. Should mmd win this year!!!! surely we are going all out war…. too many xcuses, Zambia is a christ nation this and that… not this time… copperbelt to be the rebel strong hold…

  8. ah, iwe @10 you r mad. just line up to vote. Ninshi umwenso. atase tawakwata na voters card. ukokwine bakuchonga. Tamwakateke nangu mulande shani. speech ya ba leader kwati nigradi 0 ulelanda. no issues from the manifesto nangu policy guidelines.

  9. When the MCCs are elected the big man will nominate a shadow cabinet, he can still consider outside the MCC lot. Now thats ‘democracy’

  10. Of course PF members cant oppose Sata from being party president, who else can be party president in PF? The party lacks capable and credible leaders, all prominent people in PF are dull and arrogant, including Sata himself.
Sata is not winning this years election, maybe in 2016, just maybe. If he will still be alive.

  11. Senior Citizen, when you started writing the first comment No 3, I said to myself what spewing vomit can come out of your mount about an event belonging to PF convention, when you are not there? Then I see your mouth is excreting both viral and bacterial diarrhoea in comment No 5! Finally the overflowing sewer completely erupts from your mouth in No. comment No. 9. You simply don’t know when to keep your trap shut! You are not there in Kabwe and you know nothing about the change that is coming near you!

  12. BaMashimba, can I remind you, MMD is UNIP. Who is a credible leader in MMD of late? None at all. They are acting with inmpunity to carry out atrocities against those they perceive as their political enemies. Applying the rule of law selectively. The police, OP, DEC, ACC, ZNBC, Times of MMD and Daily of MMD. The parliament has been abused by used previledges of the House by MMD MPs and those who perceive others as their enemies to assassinate individuals and Churches and no one has ever condemn their acts. Where is the leadership that many brainwashed cadres see in MMD. MMD in its current form is a complete shell. The same applied to UPND. I rest my case.

  13. Sata for president so that within 90 days, we will have 1. money in their pockets 2. jobs 3. a new constitution 4. a university at chalimbana 5. new roads 6. a ceremony to honour the balozi agreement. Way to go pf!

  14. Sata for president so that within 90 days, we will have 1. money in their(our
) pockets 2. jobs 3. a new constitution 4. a university at chalimbana 5. new roads 6. a ceremony to honour the balozi agreement. Way to go pf!

  15. IT’s true that Sata is now well cooked ready to strike, i can feel it in my veins and my hair strands  that indeed this is Sata’s year. I can foresee that because i have never have had such conviction before, the last time i felt like this was way back in 1991. I know Sata is winning this year because my instincts never lie, I’m usually none partisan but this time it;s just different, i strongly feel that mother Zambia needs re-oiling, thus the oil needs to be new oil. Go Sata, go Zambia and God bless Zambia and it’s lovely people.

  16. #21 & 22 Badaala wanisensha sana. This is fun indeed. If PF members are real, no one should oppose bamudala. We will take over from the old man soon.

  17. Ba Senior Citizen lishilu. Ala amano yena tabakwata. Senior Citizen, do you read through what you write before you hit submit? I don’t think ulishilu, nibucipumputu. Why are you arguing with yourself regarding the attendance of KK and foreign envoys? What is your problem? Do you hear voices in your head?

  18. Patriotic Front (PF) leader Michael Sata has been “re-elected” unopposed as president at the party’s first convention. LT language please!!!! PF has never had elections before so the word “re-elected” is inappropriate. Sata has never won presidential elections in his life whether at state or party level.

  19. #9 are you just confirming that you have been using “food bribes” to lead your election campaign?? NI DONCHI KUBEBA Food bribe or Food security, tu le lyamo, fi leteni!!!

  20. PF leader Michael Sata welcomes Dr Kaunda at the opening of the PF general conference at Mulungushi University yesterday.
    Ni zeee!

  21. How did Sata know about the so called election dates? I am sure that he got the info from Masebo. good that Masebo is gone. Where then is democracy and freedom of the press under Sata and PF?

  22. I wish elections were held just before indepence day in October because this will be a historic election. Hearts will break as blood pressures rise: the hiden costs of democracy

  23. Sata has oral/verbal diarrhoea. Someone tipped him about the election date and he goes public about it. Suppose it does not come out to be true? Elections can be held within 90 days of dissolving parliament and this can be up to the end of September. The man just talks anyhow. I am wondering why there were no representatives from Southern African countries at the PF conference. Only ambassadors from war loving countries attended.

  24. It is supposed within 90 days after dissolving parliament and not after 90 days. Please Sata is using intelligence to force Rupiah to announce election date

  25. PF, when in government, will embrace them in national development.

“To enable this cause, PF has programmes such as creation of micro credit financing facilities to lead entrepreneurs, expansion of trade centres to impact survival skills such as power electrical, mechanics, bricklaying and plastering to integrate the youths in decision-making positions,” stated Khondowe.

  26. as a firm believer in democracy, rb has pledged to respect the constitution of zambia and to hold free and fair elections. therefore the elections will be held this year without fail, knowing the actual date is immaterial unless you want to impress your supporters that you are a clever fellow and that you have inside information. although there are mixed reports from pf cadres here whether bwana sata has been elected, re-elected or whatever, the fact remains that he is the presidential candidate for pf in 2011. the good thing is that pf has finally succumbed and held a convention. so congratulations bwana sata for your selection as the preferred candidate for pf, we look forward to meet you at the polls on your 27th august or whatever date rb may prefer, that’s his prerogative.

  27. Bane sure, Sata is not a serious leader. I am suprised that some of you have been hoodwinked. He does not believe in what he says himself how can anyone take him seriously? As for me, its clear that his place is the dust bin. I was waiting to hear concreate stuff from other media from PF convention, only to hear the circus about silly election date predictions. everyone knows that elections are on this year before Mid October. What is the value of these predictions? He did them repeatedly in Mwanawasa’s time and he has continued. The bwato has not been properly mended, it will sink nafuti.

  28. Mwe Lesa twafwa unopposed we remember ba Sata when you barred general Miyanda in the run up to the 2001 elections when you were championing Chulubas third term…. do you actually know the meaning of democracy?? Am fast losing confidence in you I guess a cobra never changes

  29. Bayama ba Sata, please please, let us hear you make commitments to accepting election results. Publicly denounce violence and pledge civility. Uko muli kuconvention, publicly cage your vigilantes like Kambwili, GBM, Nsanda, Kabimba etc. Denounce the use of pangas as you did once in chawama. Those dignitaries you are so excited about just wanna hear your commitment to democracy. They wont vote in the zambian election. State publicly what your foriegn policy is. Say something about your health. Say something about your stand on homosexual, otherwise no catholic will vote for u. Draw your vision clearly so that we all can see. Dont just aim at impressing bakabwalala with your silly jokes. Okay say something about Libya, the arab world, greece etc. wake up man

  30. Some great emotions on this topic but like it or not by November 2011 there will be a President in Zambia then we can go back tails between our legs and wait for 2016….then we shall start again..’kuya bebele’, ‘you are full of fimo fimo’..’chipimo for statehouse’ ‘HH 2016′..’Siulapwa has matured’ ‘Cosmos has recovered’….UNIP is back..’Post is biased’…’Membe has an agenda’..’Masebo for VPee’…and so and so forth…..then we shall be zee in our poverty until 2021…and start again before we know it we shall be 60…and rooting from the fences….’Chakuti chobe..’

  31. The date of elections pronounced by Sata is the last leakage conveyed by Masebo. The important feature about PF structures is that the Convention was attended by a mass of meek sheep hypnotised never to raise credible questions. The true scenario is that the PF Co. Ltd is entirely owned by Sata & Guy Scott as major Shareholders. It is a Company with strucures of an NGOs to funnel to channel aid money from external multinational firms.Sata must think on behalf of its members. Hahing seen the glimpse of PF intra-party operations, Masebo is fighting her own conscience on how PF translates the tennets of democracy. If she ingones this, then we know that she is trully a political prostitute. PF is a clusters of deceptive oportunists !

  32. The last kicks of a dying horse…….after the elections which will be won by MMD, PF will be nolonger in existence.

  33. Ba LT,how come you get your stories mostly from state run and govt controlled media?? There are so many honest stories from the Post. Why subject us to Times of Zambia and Daily Mail??? and its bn so long when I bought a TT or DM newspaper. I always avoid to buy them and only to find them on LT…. eishhh!!!

  34. No democracy, the PF Democracy( who else can challenge the Cobra) i think the display of the snake should be removed from his office…………….. in the bible and society beliefs a snake usually indicates evil, though on one occassion it was used for the healing of the nation. We need people to be challenging the encabant to show some for of democracy even when the sole candidate finally wins. This will show and prove to us that people are free. Not when you stand you then perceived to be aganist the party …lets move on eeeh PF, MMD, UPND ETC

  35. “Pa-Zed” You do NOT elect when someone has NOT been opposed thats wrong english.
He has not been opposed thats not elected.

  36. Congrats HE MC Sata! That is just one step forward. A gigantic battle lies ahead. At least you are assured of my vote. Ni DON’ T KUBEBA 2011

  37. Congratulations to the King Snake. At least this time after losing he will concede defeat and be magnanimous enough to call Mr Banda and congratulate him. Winning the PF presidency unopposed was expected just as we expect that he will lose the national elections.

  38. Yea, I have seen some boats being paddled by one man. I saw this was when I was in china for instance. The problem is, such people are often admired for their strength but as one friend of mine told me, during my stay there (China), in the long run most of them drop dead from exhaustion. And, as my friend told me – they die of heart failure. Don’t they have people to help them? you my ask. They do, but because they want to show everyone around how strong they are, they only use their helpers in menial tasks such as mending the boat when it has a hole or things like – nothing major. when they die, the locals often throw away the boat or leave it to rot as a way of erasing the memories of their task master who they may have totally disliked but stayed with for financial reasons….

  39. AND ON 28TH AUGUST, SATA WILL ANNOUNCE THE ELECTIONS RESULTS, ON 29TH AUGUST SATA WILL DECLARE HIMSELF AS THE SECOND DEMOCRATICALLY ELECTED PRESIDENT OF ZAMBIA. HE WILL BE SWORN AT MORNINGSIDE ON 30TH AUGUST.

    GOD BLESS ZAMBIA.

    • “KASEBA” TRULLY UNZAMBIAN COMMENT!!. how can u wish ill health to anyone?? are u zambian??? I DOUBT!!

  40. congratulation baka teka am happy for you . just a word of advise as they have put you as there party president kindly sitty your men down let them put there ass down .you as the leader come up with an idea to choose amoung your young men and women to contest with this finish buya bwezani kwa banda and am very sure you il make the zambians very happy and your name will go in the history of zed forever and ever just consider this .

  41. PLIZ BA PRESIDENT FOR 2011 ,MAKE SURE U EXTEND BURSARIES TO PRIVATE UNIVERSITIES ESPECIALLY TO LUSAKA APEX MEDICAL UNIVERSITY TO ENABLE THE COUNTRY MEET MDG (HUMAN RESOURCE IN HEALTH SECTOR). WE WANT EVERY ONE TO BENEFIT SINCE ZAMBIA NOW IS A MIDDLE INCOME COUNTRY.
