Patriotic Front (PF) Kabwata Member of Parliament, Given Lubinda has filed a police complaint over an email published in the media alleging that he sourced money from Taiwan.
In the respective email, purportedly sent to PF Secretary General, Wynter Kabimba, Mr Lubinda is said to have commented over a 45 million dollars donated to the party from Afghanstian and Taiwan.
Mr Lubinda has reported his complaint to Lusaka Central Police station.
Earlier in the day, Police Director of Operations, Solomon Jere could not receive Mr Lubinda’s complaint at Zambia Police Headquarters.
Dr Jere advised Mr Lubinda to report the complaint to Lusaka central police.
And a senior police officer today harassed 4 Lusaka journalists among them a MUVI TV reporter, Paul Shalala. Others who were harassed were Evans Sinjela of 5-FM and Allan Mulenga as well as Bright Mukwasa, all from the Post Newspapers.
The journalists were harassed by Lusaka Division Police Deputy Commanding Officer, Jackson Simfukwe, as they pursued a story at Lusaka Central Police Station.

The journalists were at central police covering Patriotic Front (PF) Kabwata Member of Parliament, Given Lubinda.
But Police spokesperson, Ndandula Siamana has described the incident as very unfortunate.
Earlier this week, 2 MUVI TV Journalists were verbally harassed by a Patriotic Front (PF) cadre verbally harassed in Kabwe, however the party has since apologised.

Look at the timing of that email, just when Mr Lubinda was reported to be planning to challenge Mr Sata for the PF presidency. I think that it was an ambitious but misfired act of PF leadership to sort out Lubinda if he did not play ball.

The watchdog would not have the audacity to re-publish this email unless they know they are on solid grown. There is nothing the cops can do short of proving that ZWD hacked into GL’s email accounts. If the email was forwarded to them, then there is no breach of privacy since it gets into public domain the moment ZWG received it and all they did was publish it – that’s why the US State department can only deal with the ‘leaker’ GI and not Julian Asange. Did you know that Zambia was shamefully struck of the AGOA list of countries to supply cloths made in zambia to the USA market duty free after MMD crooks in GRZ at the highest level convived with chinese after buying KTZ and mulugushi textiles, to send instead cloths made in china but with a made in Zambia lable. That is the work of people of MMD. They have been talking about Taiwan for a long time. If you have read the so-called email, it is poorly written with uncoordinated points, spelling mistakes and grammatical errors. Someone concocted that email in a haste. This is really cheap, dirty and criminal way of campaigning.
I beg to differ with witness # 22 who is obviously a supporter of PF, a party without a coherent plan for Zambia. 90% of the exports from Africa under the AGOA scheme are Crude oil and therefore I don’t understand why # 22 is manufacturing blatant lies vis –a- vis KTZ and the Chinese. Can Kafue textiles have an export market worth Billion dollars in the USA? When did they build that capacity? This is the problem with PF supporters – instead of articulating party policy at the convention; they were busy dancing and singing.

Any computer expert will tell that once someone hacks your e-mail he or she can write e-mails to those who appear in your address book asking them for money. Last year my (hotmail) was hacked by hacker from China. My girlfriend and friends started phoning at 03am whether I was in America stranded needing $300, $400 and any money they can afford as my warret was stolen. My brother and sisters from Zambia even phoned me to find out if I was ok or I needed money. I have never travelled to USA .My new employer even almost terminated my job offer but then good news was BBC World was hacked at that time and Hotmail was sending messages to its customers about hacking and the same e-mail asking for $300 was sent to my new boss. Hackers are cyber criminals. difficult to catch.
Given Lubinda claims that his e-mail account was hacked, meaning that someone other than himself authored this mail. That, at least, is the starting point.
It is also clear that Kabimba has acknowledged, at least implicitly, receiving the e-mail from Given Lubinda’s mail account.

The question is, what is given lubinda complaining about? Is it true that he sent that e-mail and his computer was hacked or is he complaining that the whole issue about the e-mail is total fabrication? Sometimes we should not assume that GL is smart, he may have miscalculated his timing and made a fatal mistake to send that E-mail and now he has to deal with the aftermath of his actions. To me if he didn’t not send that e-mail why even bother to go to the police so fast. We know that he is scared of being expelled from the PF.Shame.
The onus lies on Lubinda to prove that he is not the author of the e-mail though coming from his own account!!!!! But what are the chances that his account was actually hacked? Why of all people should his account be hacked, out +2.5 million users (Zambia)? How many people in Zambia have had their e-mails hacked? So Lubinda’s account is that 1 out 2.5million users that must alone be hacked? Lubinda’s account must be the only unfortunate account that it must be hacked? When was there ever a case of a hacked account in Zambia? Isn’t this not the first case?
Why was he targeted? He is a politician – someone wants to discredit him personally or his party. The chances of the account being hacked are actually quite high. Yesterday, the largest circulation newspaper in the UK was closed down because of a phone voicemail hacking scandal. The cases go back to several years because most victims were not aware that their phones were being hacked. In this case, Gavin might not have known about the email until it became publicised. It is not easy to know that someone has sent an email from your account because they can just delete the item from the ‘sent’ folder. Investigations would start with people publishing the email – where did they get it from?

As far as today’s lead story on ZWD, Lubinda claims that someone hacked into his account and authored the said mail. However, the Post’s account only states that Lubinda has refused to be the author of the mail without clarifying this denial in context, whether hacking was involved or not.

What is crucial now is whether the e-mail purported to have come from Given Lubinda’s e-mail box is an authentic one or not. The examination of the content of the e-mail will be dealt with later.
Going by today’s ZWD lead story, the e-mail is most likely an authentic one. What remains is for Lubinda to prove that he is not the one who authored and sent it using his own email box.
