PF clarifies ban on Public Media

The Patriotic Front says it does not have a policy of banning the public media from covering its activities.
PF Secretary General, Wynter Kabimba, has told the Media Institute of Southern Africa (MISA) Zambia that the PF Central Committee has never sat to pass a resolution banning the public media from covering it.

Mr. Kabimba told MISA Zambia Chairperson Daniel Sikazwe and National Director Sipo Kapumba, who requested for a meeting with the PF Secretary General to clarify the recent banning of the public media from covering the PF General Congress in Kabwe.

He says his party was frustrated that the public media tended to cover his party in a negative manner which tended to harm its public image.

Mr. kabimba has complained that despite repeated efforts to reach out to the public media to create dialogue and mutual understanding, his efforts had yielded nothing.

He says his party expects the public media to exhibit the highest professional standards and adhere to professional ethics because they are owned by the Zambian public.

Mr. kabimba adds that the public media should show fairness in their coverage of different stakeholders, including opposition political parties.

He has assured MISA Zambia that the PF does not hate the public media, referring to the PF manifesto, which elaborates the PF stance on the media and its support for a free press.

The PF secretary general further says his party is ready to open dialogue with the heads of the public media, if government permits them, so that both parties can appreciate each other and their role in strengthening Zambia’s democracy.

  1. True the govt ran media is really biased towards the PF, but then again the are govt employees so they serve their masters

    • why do you have to use our church name for this rubbish? can’t you find any other title and leave the church out of this nonsense. whether you are my church member or not, this is stupidity of highest order.

  2. Dead Be Cee .a.k.a ZNBC plus daily Mail and Times of Zambia are rotten Institutions with rotten journalist working there!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I know you i.diots from these institutions are reading!!! That what we think of you ba.fi.kala!

  3. It’s a waste of time enganging them. All they should realise is that one day, we will need back our K3000= we are made to pay every month wether you watch their rubbish or not. They shouldn’t be surprised when the K3000= translate into billions.

  4. The intergrity of the press is very important,
True the govt ran media is really biased towards the PF, but then again they are govt employees so they serve their masters
The post is also biased towards the MMD and other parties.Being affiliated to a party does not mean writing lies about the opposition once this line is crossed respect for such press is lost and remember any party governing a country can lose an election, what happens to the officers of the press, when or if the party they insult comes in power

    • The Post is an independent paper and can support and critisize whomever they want. The others are public owned and financed and should be impartial. The tax payers are their employers not the party in govt The time when there is separation of powers will people understand the principles of democracy. The Excutive, Legislature and Judiciary.

  5. To me the reporting in Zambia is a balanced act with the Post reporting negaviley on the government and the so called public media reporting negavily against PF. The owners of Public media are the government and it is just wise that serve them right. Just like Sata has shares in the Post, he should also get the same favour from Fred Mmembe. I know other share holders in the Post who get good coverage from the paper, people like Kavindele, the Winas, Mugombas and offcourse the Penzas though the main man passed. All news is good from either the Post or Public Media because the public should be able to know both the good and the bad of political parties. For me, that is why I read all papers so that Iam properly enlighted.

    • Don’t compare the Post with the public media. The public media is public funded while the post is privately funded

    • @wapya ….whats your point with respect to this individuals argument? It is not about funding but loyalty. why would you now want the nation to know the bad things about your party?

  6. Ba Wynter Kabimba….when have you ever known what to dialogue means? We are approaching elections and you have been reminded of how selfish you are and you want to come out like a good hearted person? And all those people you have stepped on? The house/s you sold to yourself cheaply….awe kwena in the quest for power people go mad and can even attempt to lie to God……

  7. #5 PACHUSHI the Post is a private media that is why we do not complain about their bias. The Public Media is NOT owned by government or the MMD, it is owned by the Public, the Zambian people that pay the k3000 TV licence and the very huge taxes these ZNBC and sh.it run on. We as the public that fund the public media want to hear what is happening in all the sectors of Zambia but we hear about RB commissioning a Toilet in Mandevu, RB commissioning Lusaka Central hospital that is smaller than Bin Laden’s compound. RB commissioning incomplete project, dust roads . Dora Siliya telling broad day lies about Sata. It is a waste of our hard earned money. Who ever brought TV licences srewe,d the shi.t up and may he rot in helll

  8. Me like ZNBC. 10hrs station opens, they air a ka cartoon titled clyde, then followed by a documentary, then discussion programme, then lunch hour news which is all about our dear beloved RB,then again a documentary starring RB and his developmental projects through-out Zambia, then news in local languages, then lima time which has been airing since 1992, then the main which is all about RB, T.B and the MMD’s wonderful works, then isidingo, then a documentary featuring RB’s rallies, then news in brief, and finally a 1972 late movie and station is closed.ZNBC I SALUTE YOU. OUR 3000PINS ARE SURELY BEEN PUT TO GOOS USE.

    • Typical of ZNBC. With regarding to programing you will still be watching the same catoons, soapies and movies which you watched in 1997. That’s why there Dead NBC.

  9. i think we shouldnt rush to critise the goverment media the post is equally biased wen it comes to there nreporting if ur not intrested in knowing about what good the goverment is doing for the country dont buy the dailymail stick to reading what u feel appealls to you.

    • Ba Jane; the Post does not get any money from you and I in a mandatory way. The post personnel pays tax as well. The post doesn’t force you and I to buy its publications. The Post earn their money through its business. You and I have no control over what they cover. MMD had better come up with their own private Newspaper and if they want; counter the post. Leave what you and I pay for as unbiased as guarantees the happiness of the people who suffer for the money.

  10. Sata should apologise to GK for for calling hiohim red lips. Look at Kabimba in the above picture, what colour is his lips?

  11. On top of paying K3000 my PAYE is more than my Net. I leave in an area where there are poor roads and besides this I lost my mather in te village, on the road side awaiting some transport to take her to hospital. Despite all the loses I encounter, mmd ZNBC, Daily mail and times of Zambia can continue to just to want to serve a person who really has done a lot of harm to this country than good. even if this man just disapeared ,Zambia can even be a much safer and good place to leave in. Obviiously one will pay for the miss use our money.

  12. imwe bachikala ba ba winter you have become so pompous as though you are alresdy in goverment.ba post te bakuchetekela.tommorrow as long as RB enters in to a deal with them they`ll turn against you and write up some crap that will send your already exhausted clown of a president to the grave.ukapapa sana

  13. ah mwaliba tamfya ba ZNBC..mwabashani kanshi ba PF..the media is doing what they can to cover u …but ur too violent such that they find it difficult to even say anything good about the PF…

  14. IN THE HISTORY OF ZAMBIA’S INDEPENDENCE, THE SO CALLED PUBLIC MEDIA HAVE NEVER BEEN AS UNPROFESSIONAL, & IRRELEVANT TO DEMOCRACY AS THEY ARE TODAY…………I JUST WONDER IF THE SO CALLED DIRECTOR GENERAL IS A PROFESSIONAL JOURNALIST……..HE HAS PROVED TO BE THE MOST USELESS DIRECTOR IN THE WORLD OF BROADCASTING……… HE IS NOTHING BUT A STREET CADRE……….MUPESO, YOUR DAYS ARE NUMBERED,……YOU’LL SOON BE ON THE STREETS……..NABANA BOBE PAMO NABAKASHI BALAKUSEKA!!!!!

  15. I CAN NOT BLAME PF OR UPND IF THEY BAN PUBLIC MEDIA IN THEIR RALLIES BECAUSE THE TIMES OF ZAMBIA ,DAILY MAIL AND THE ZNBC ARE ALL BIAS WHEN COVERING OPPOSITION RALLIES, THEY ARE PUPPETS THEY DANCE TO THEIR MASTERS TUNES. WHEN THE OPPOSITION FORMS THE NEW GOVT THIS PUBLIC MEDIA SHOULD BE SHUT DOWN JUST AS THE BRITISH HACE CLOSED THE NEWS OF THE WORLD AFTER 128 YEARS IN BUSINESS FOR PHONE HACKING.THIS 3 MEDIA SHOULD BE PRIVATISED IMMIDIATLY AND THEIR BOSSES SHOULD BE FIRED. .

  16. Ba PF and your Hypocricy! So what do you have to say about the private media’s negative reporting of anything Governement? Dont you know that objectivity entails looking at issues from all possible angles? You should be advocating for a media that does not favour any party but puts up both sides of the story. I doubt that you party will make any meaningful changes to the status quo. Stop justifying your childishness and campaign in the environment you have justified all the while.

    • Imwe ba chuchu, private media is private. Public media is public, paid for by the tax payer, therefore you can not judge them by the same token. Of course it is not fair for any press to be biased, but public media is accountable to the people, not the ruling party.

  17. Trully znbc tv is boring. Honestly, why are we being subjected to biased coverage? When it comes to entertainment its the OLD odd dozing movies while more times is given to boring documentaries. Znbc, atleast dig into your archives and give us even drama by Sausande and Maximo. Remember, we are paying for good stuff not zigolo.

  18. Seriously ZNBC has gone to the dogs, even in 1990 when Kaunda was @ the helm, we could atleast watch Chiluba, Sata, Mwanawasa making statements against Kaunda but 2day its only RB and developmental projects and any other scoundrel who can find anything bad to say about Sata. I feel pity for newscaster when they are forced to read the rubbish called ZNBC news.

  19. DEPENDING ON WHAT YOU WANT I ENJOY THE PUBLIC MEDIA. WHEN AM FADE UP I TUNE TO OTHER MEDIA ON MY DSTV. WHAT IS K3,000 COMPARED TO OVER K400,000 PAID MONTHLY. FOR THE FIRST TIME AM ABLE TO SEE DEVELOPMENT TAKING PLACE IN ZAMBIA. NOTE THAT EVEN BBC, REPEAT SIMILAR NEWS THE WHOLE DAY WITH LITTLE VARIATION. I HAVE JUST BEEN IN TOUCH WITH MY UNCLE ELECTION DATE WILL BE ANNOUNCED SOON. RB WILL DEFINITELY CARRY THE DAY.

  20. UK – BBC 1 & BBC2 TV are as boring as ZNBC. Public Broadcaster are boring in every country. Its as simple as that, cause they are funded by tax payers. At least ZNBC you can even watch an advert. With BBC, all you get is cooking programs and stup1d old silly programs

    • You don’t really know what you are talking about..BBC has a much balance News schedule and is light years better than ZNBC, only someone with a very low concentration span  can say that. Additionally BBC promotes local talent through film, sport etc and the reason some of us stick to it is there is uninterrupted viewing as there are no commercials

  21. #16 Private media is PRIVATE. This means that they set their on agenda. Public media is PUBLIC. They are owned by MMD, PF, UPND, you, me and others. #16. Please define for me the word PUBLIC. Surely, no one can complain much about Zedleaks( pro PF), ZWD( pro UPND) Lusaka times( pro MMD). These are private sites. All zambians pay 3Pin for ZNBC. We pay taxes that finance Times of Zambia and Daily Mail. We do not finance The Post Newspapres with our Taxes unless we voluntarily buy it.

  22. In the eyes of REV Shikapisha who reads the bible its fine in his eyes and heart. What a christianity? Putting Gods name to shame becuase of pieces of silver. Whats the difference between JUDAS Escariot and these men of God. Resign on moral grounds.

  23. Is this not the same Kabimba who said it was PF policy not to allow public media at their functions. What has changed now

  24. PF, we warned you not too long ago that you and the Post were setting a trend in “journalism” that you would live to regret. As for public vs private media debate, let me refer you to the objectives of LAZ, which is to facilitate the development of law in order to ensure social justice for ALL citizens of Zambia. When applied to the media this objective of social justice applies to all media houses regardless of funding or ownership. Therefore if Musa Mwenye knows his job, he should guide both the public media and the so called “sections of the media”, in particular the Post. By targetting the public media Mwenye simply exposed his bias and membership of the PF.

  25. Why do you debate in such a narrow minded approach. Ethics of journalism demands truth, fairness and justice whether from private or public. MISA, LAZ & PAZA should be advocating to ensure that Zambia are told the truth not narrow minded biases of editors as they see it fit. Why complain about the public media when the Post has become a vuvuzela for PF. It is unethical to complain about the public and don’t kubeba the injustice the Post is doing to the Zambian people.

  26. It’s sad & shameful that some bloggers cant differentiate between public & private media. The POST is privately owned & is not answerable to the public, unlike the public media which is owned by the public and is thus answerable to the owners (public).

    • Not true.Private organisations can be answerable to the public depending on nature of business.Media’s business is to inform public. So if they only report negatives(sometimes even speculation),that is as good as misinformation the public, consequenses of which we all know.

  27. Even Post and other private media need to re-examin their reporting approach.Private as they may be,yes they have right to choose what to report on BUT they also have responsibility to find some balance because not reporting on government’s success is denying the public information.Actualy just reporting negatives add no single value to our country but robs it of its dignity in a way.

  28. @seventh day adventist, how do u say de govtment media is biased 2wards pf n de post 2wards mmd wen de opposite is true.govt media is biased against pf n the post biased against mmd.u need 2 learn ur english properly or is it a curse being bestowed upon 4 using de name of a church in ur foolish endeavourz.change ur username or ur going mad pretty soon.as 4 de topic nothing wil work towards harmonising de rapport between pf n govt media as long as mupeso n milmo who s cadres r at de helm of znbc n times of zambia

  29. #27 You are the one who needs to learn english. Its biased towards and not biased against so SDA is right. Anyway english is not our mother tongue so lets not concentrate on peoples english he. Learning english is not the aim of this blog.

  30. Kabimba should blame his muzungu boss (Guy Scott) who declared that it was PF policy to ban “unfriendly” journalists to the PF Convention in Kabwe. The PF took this measure of excluding a diversity of journalists in order to offset objective reporting on the unrully drank fleet of their kaponyas- and possible rehearsals of homosexual stints. We learn that there was confusion at Mulungushi, which was indeed swept under the carpet by the Post which prides itself to dig much deeper. Kabimba should just shut up.

  31. ZNBC is not the only tool to use, mind you we all foot soldiers in the ouest to oust BLACKSHEEP(MMD) We the down graded citizens of this country cannot allow it even with ZNBC, TV2 , RADIO 1 -9 on yo side we deliver a knockout punch.

  32. Us monkeys just watch and laugh. Humanity is such a shallow creature despite being endowed with brains and a body that can do wonders. The few exceptions are in opposition.

  33. you have no news you gay chaps..forget..the public media will only cover you when you cry foul after elections..

  34. # 30 SpongsBobSquarePants. Its not about teaching people how to write proper english, its just that SDA’s comment was confusing. #29 Joseph Hillz is right. If one says biased towards it means being pro-something. He should have said that the public media is biased towards MMD and the post biased towards PF and so on. Thats what happens when one begins to make fan of spiritual matters like using the name of the church obviously for devilsh motives like insulting fellow bloggers. I can foresee somebody going insane soon.

  35. GRZmedia institutions are doing fine,ba PF tamutasha, kabili tamwakatashepo, kabilitamwakawinepo, viva MMD NAFUTI NAFUTI.

  36. Northern Rhodesia @35 you are the one that needs to learn English, but then again you are Tonga and think you know it all…
But coming back to Zambia Tonga tribalist party,s under5 will never  rule Zambia not in this life time

  37. #22 ethics are ethics whether private media or public media.are u telling me that the post is only read by pipo in space?they had better swallow their stpid pride and start covering all political parties equally.we the zambians deserve to choose who we want.so dont shove one candidate down our throats……..freedom of information………we demand to be informed about all political parties.as for daily there just learning from the post.

  38. I wish to disagree with you guys saying that the post is biased. The Post covers all parties and gives checks and balances to the govt. Except their editorial is entirrely up to the Editors themselves bt for the PUBLIC media MMD, PF, UPND, all private radio and TV stations and Newspapers including the Post pay money for them to run so they have no option but to cover all of us fairly.

  39. ZNBC ,Times and Daily Mail are are like sewer pipes carrying MMD waste from people like Dora Castle Siliya

  40. Winter good work clarifying; Dora said it in kitwe that the Public media will only cover the Govt-MMD and that PF will have to wait for coverage when they make Govt. I trully feel for my brothers and sisters who work for these institutions, they work under very difficult circumstances. But then its Dontchi Kubeba

  41. Game ili cheee! Instead of grumbling let the political parties work so that we see their fruits. The voter will decide after all is said and done. Ku balansa ni kwamene koma….
