PATRIOTIC Front (PF) cadres in Ndola and Mwense yesterday exchanged blows over the adoption of parliamentary candidates allegedly imposed on them by party president Michael Sata.

In Ndola, PF cadres rejected the adoption of former Zambia Congress of Trade Unions (ZCTU) president Fackson Shamenda for Ndola Central, Susan Kawandami for Chifubu and former Ndola town clerk Emmanuel Chenda for Bwana Mkubwa constituencies.

According to eyewitnesses, the adoptions have left a bitter taste in the mouths of cadres who feel short-changed by the action of MrSata.

Supporters of MrShamenda and those against his candidature clashed outside the district offices on Broadway.

The cadres have rejected the three candidates and called on the party leadership to replace them. They protested in Chifubu constituency and proceeded to the PF district offices on Broadway before they were addressed by Ndola district chairman George Chisulo.

“We are not going to campaign for the three adopted candidates because they have no support at the grassroots. If they are not dropped, we risk losing the seats to the MMD.” said one cadre.

The cadres vowed not to accept candidates imposed on them by the party’s central committee when members have preferred candidates.

They said that some of the adopted candidates are difficult to sell and that voters deserve candidates who can deliver to the expectations of the electorate.

“We have not seen anything that Susan Kawandami did for the people of Chifubu since she became member of Parliament and our leaders want her to stand again instead of fielding Joseph Kabamba, who is more popular,” another cadre said.

And MrChisulo, who addressed the protesting cadres, said he would inform the national leadership about the grievances raised against the adopted parliamentary candidates.

“You will be informed once we have the response from the national leadership. I am appealing to you to disperse and remain calm,” Mr Chisulo said.

PF cadres in Bwana Mkubwa constituency also protested against the candidature of former Ndola town clerk Mr Chenda.

The cadres said the three candidates must be replaced by Joseph Kabamba (Chifubu), Macpherson Chanda (Ndola Central) and a person they did not name for Bwana Mkubwa.

Meanwhile, MMD Ndola Central aspiring parliamentary candidate Emmanuel Mulenga said he will emerge victorious in the elections.

MrMulenga said MrShamenda is not a factor in politics because he had retired from public life.

In Mwense, cadres also ran riot over candidates imposed on them by Mr Sata.

They protested against dictatorial tendencies by MrSata, who has allegedly adopted unpopular candidates, ANGELA CHISHIMBA reports.

The PF members have vowed to campaign against Mwale Chipolo, who has been picked to contest the seat. They have vowed to vote for President Banda and MMD-adopted parliamentary candidate Jacob Chongo.

Mwense PF Constituency chairman Reuben Chokolo told the Daily Mail that if the party and its leader MrSata insist on imposing Mr Chipolo as its candidate, the opposition party would lose this year’s elections.

He said PF members in Mwense are backing Joseph Chisakula, who has worked for the party for many years.

“Things are not good in Mwense because we have received very disturbing news from Lusaka. The person they have adopted is not popular and we are not ready to work with him,” MrChokolo said.

And Mwense Constituency youth chairman Blackstone Mukelwa said Mr Chipolo was rejected in the 2006 tripartite elections.

“This man (Chipolo) is not popular here. This adoption will just cause confusion,” he said.

He urged Mr Sata and other members of the central committee to reverse the decision, failure to which the PF would lose the Mwense vote.

“If the party ignores our demands, it will be a miracle for it to even get 500 votes. We will go back to MMD because it is not right to impose candidates on the electorate,” he said.

Mr Mukelwa said Mr Chipolo lives in Mansa while MrChisakula lives in Mwense and the latter is in touch with the grassroots.

“This clearly exposes MrSata’s dictatorial tendencies. If they do not rescind this decision, the entire constituency committee will abandon the PF,” he said.

And a PF youth in Mwense, David Chisanga, said the MMD is going to win the elections in Mwense and Luapula.

“A lot of people have gathered and are protesting against this decision. There are over 30 youths here,” he said.

He demanded that MrSata should travel to Luapula to resolve the problem which has arisen.

“Mr Sata is not being sincere because he promised the people of Mwense that he would adopt Mr Chisakula,” Mr Chisanga said.

  1. Wapya munz.i not everyone will accept the nominated members doesnt matter which party. This is the way democracy works. However, hand picking candidates by the party Prez as alleged by some members raises eyebrows. Anyway thats PF business. Im not a member

  2. Its interesting that the daily mail is privy to the PF adoption process and have been given the names well in advance before they are made public.
What did the daily mail say about the imposition of candidates by rupiah?….NOTHING!!

What a shame from our public media

  3. The story is coming from Daily Mail and it is not credible. PF can win even if they put a person whose name cannot be pronounced by the people. PF will scoop all those positions

  4. Is this the same daily mail that reported
    1) Sata had imposed his son to stand in Lusaka Central
    2) Sata would replace Inonge with Masebo after the convention
    3) GBM was in RSA for heart attack treatment after quarelling with Sata
    4) Sata was bed ridden after the same quarrel with GBM

I truly hope that PF forms governemtn and do not sink so low as to start abusing the public medai in this way

  5. Ichi Nyamu Nyamu

Just jump on the band wagon and vote for people with principles. VOTE REAL CHANGE, VOTE HH. PF will come to power and abuse the same public media that MMD is abusing. They won’t be any change if look at the way PF is behaving. VOTE WISELY

  6. Whichever source published stories of intra-party PF squables among cadres, there is no smoke without fire. Such in-fightings were predicted a long time ago. It is possible PF banned several media to cover their Convention so as to hide the same kind of violent-prone drama by its members. When PF announces Sata’s preferred candidates, there shall be more fights that will be difficult to hide.

    • I would like to sharply differ with you on your comment about the PF “banning several media” from covering their convention. Its either you are very ignorant and illiterate or you are simply a pathological liar. THE ONLY MEDIA banned by the PF from covering their convention was PUBLIC but GOVERNMENT CONTROLLED ZNBC, times of zambia, Daily mail, Zanis and any other government controlled public media house. The reason for that action against the aforementioned is known even to my 4 year old son. I will not be astonished if you say you have no idea what i am talking about coz honestly  i dont expect you to. MUVI TV, QFM, PHOENIX, MOBI TV, THE POST, HOT FM were all there and if if anything sinister happened they would have informed the general public. Be objective for the sake of  zambia.

  7. “Rupiah Daily Mail” at it again. I have even stopped reading this tissue of a paper which can only report negatives of others. Watch its reporting come 21st September

  8. As for Shamenda, this is a case of “MOYENDA MUCHAWA ANADYA NKUMBA”.. The man was rejected by UPND, hence his job-seeking at PF’s offices. If he has not invested well for his future welfare, he will regret to live a rough life during the next five years.

  9. aleni bafffikala, just trush this story because it`s coming from the daily .first mukalye amafi elyo mukashinikisha

  10. @3, As you well know, the Zambia Daily Mail is reporting what PF cadres have said or done. There was nothing of the sort when MMD announced its candidates. Please leave the Daily Mail alone, you cannot compare it with that pretence of “independent paper” the Post written by that shameless scoundrel Mmembe, the self appointed new ally of plunderers.

  11. THAT IS POLITICS IN ZAMBIA.ANY DOG THAT STANDS ON PF TICKET IN LSK AND CB WILL WIN BECOZ PIPO GO FOR THE PARTY NOT THE BRAINS.
THAT KAWANDAMI DOES NOT EVEN KNOW ENGLISH.
WHY IS IT THAT PF ONLY HAS BEMBA CANDIDATES,WE ARE NOT SAFE.

    • Emmanuel please be reasonable for the sake of the nation. Being able to speak English does not make you or any other person any better than others. Being able to speak English is NOT a characteristic or quality of a good leader. It is just revealing the level of inferiority complex you posses- it must be extremely high. Are Wyber Simusa, Guy scott, Kawandami, Shamenda, sylvia masebo, Lubinda, Inonge wina -just to mention but a few – BEMBA. Build the nation even as you contribute on these fora please. FOR THE SAKE of ZAMBIA not Mr Rhupia, Mr SATA, Mr Hakainde or any other person preach unit.

  12. Good for the info daily-mail, since the paper has every thing at it’s disposal, am sure the editor for this toilet paper is in the central committee to know what is happenning in PF. we shall wait for the full list and compare with daily-mail list. cause we have heard a lot of shit b4 from this sebana wikute paper.

  13. I am now vindicated. Yesterday I was insulted for attributing the high number of abortion cases in Nakonde to the confusion being caused by the PF’s dictatorial adoption process. Some small minded imbeciles in retaliation claimed the process was complete and transparent. Pf has gifted the ruling party with the easiest of election victories through their vivid disorganisation. Only problem now is that the innocent nakonde girls will suffer as PF frustrations heighten.

  14. It is further myopic and extremely senseless and infact silly, for the Daily Mail to be accused of fabricating this story. Let 9 and the other misguided pf sympathisers know that this was actually the second news item on muvi tv news last night. Allow me to suggest and perhaps encourage you to read and listen to the news before you comment. As the saying goes, its better to remain quiet and be assumed as an *****, than to open your mouth and remove all doubt.

  15. Shamenda being a parliamentary candidate in an election with MMD a party structure that knows him to his loins is very laughable move.Records stand strong on how Shamenda strangulated the labor Union in Zambia to its Graveyard. Let the campaign heat up and see Shamenda struggling for integrity and labour rights he sold-out.

  16. Zambia Daily lies only an MMD member will believe their stories. These people complaining are not true members of PF.

  17. Why do these political eaders like imposing candidates on the local voters. If the PF Central Committe feels they can impose those who are oiling the campaign machinery let it be so but it will backfire. Voting for Fackson Simenda what subsistance is left out of him . This is the man who weaken ZCTU when he was its President. We never learn from our past mistakes. Pf is just disadvantaging itself even before ball kick off.

  18. PF is good for employing trickstars. Shamenda as been recruited so that the Party can use his divisive talents to PF’s advantage. Shamenda will go down in history to have split ZCTU into spinter groups and thus weakened the bargaining powers of the workers. Madam Joyce Nonde knows Shamenda well. He may succeed in creating a bigger chasm to split PF’s nerve centre – and burry Sata for good..

  19. RB, Banda and his Bandans (followers) are making mileage.
On the other hand, SATA and the Satans (followers) are looking for Banda’s parantage, on one end and fighting on the other end.
Both camps are making alot of progress in their endeavours.

  20. Ati, You need to eat lunch to pronounce the UPND adopted names: Hamalambo, Haakola, Hibajene, Handundu, Hamoonga, Hamanyanze, Hakweza, Hamududu, Hapunda, Hamundenda, Hakaantu, Hamachila, etc

  21. PF listen to the people don’t be foolish ba Sata people want to give you the vote but you don’t want what a shame do the right thing now before it’s too late the MMD has made adoption mistakes and you do the same learn and see and hear what the people are saying at the grass root level do not impose rubbish at the end don’t blame anyone but yourself ba Sata

    • I agree that PF must quickly adopt popular candidates that people want. It is true, ” so far so good” for PF. Do not spoit the chances of landslide victory. At this point, pick what people want and after your first term, you will have reasons not to pick some condidates.

  22. Tamo (blog 26) you are a disgarace to your parents and the entire humanity.why do you look down upon like.that?.the world has moved on and gone beyond ethnicity, racism and any other disciminations but here you are still making such inhuman comments. you are so backward and i wonder which background you come from coz you seemed to be not exposed.

  23. Why they don’t let the people vote in the primary within the party before imposing some useless person on them? I know it could be expensive to do so but they need to change the system so now issues comes up before a major election like this one.

  24. # 29 DONT KUBEBA (RSA)
If you want MMD to go you must care who says and does what.
Otherwise, PF has never cared who says what and they have continued losing.
Now they have become professionals at the art of losing.
They are even used and can even say Donchi Kubeba.

  25. I am a member and an official in PF. Wynter Kabimba gave us false hope by telling us that we will choose our own candidates.MC Sata also said at provincial conferences that the constituency will adopt MPs and the district, province and central committee will only endorse. Here in Lusaka and Copperbelt we were told the same thing…check the PF S.G’s circulars of last year. Now the opposite has happened…so you guys at Post 3 and 5….think twice.Ine nenzeko! We will form government this year but our internal democracy is very poor.I hope we rule the nation better.Viva PF!!!

  26. PF is heading for a disaster with the happenings on the Copperbelt ,Lusaka and elsewhere. In Southern Province, people have vowed to teach UPND a lesson, by voting for all the independents and MMD candidates for imposing candidates who are not prefered by the voters.

  27. The titanic has just hit the iceberg!!The captain ”King Cobra” is in denial of the fact he will never anchor it on plot one.Fellow bloggers, this marks the inevitable beginning of the demise of PF to total oblivion.PF supporters, the HOUR has come to trully count the cost for your false hopes and denial.

  28. Meanwhile, MMD Ndola Central aspiring parliamentary candidate Emmanuel Mulenga said he will emerge victorious in the elections.

In Ndola, PF cadres rejected the adoption of former Zambia Congress of Trade Unions (ZCTU) president Fackson Shamenda for Ndola Central,

    Ba Lt which is which?

  29. THE BEGINNING OF THE END SIR.CLEAR SIGN THAT SATA WAS SELLING THESE SEATS TO THE RICH.BUT THE BALLOON OF FRASTRUTION WILL SOON BURST AND PF WILL BE HISTORY WITHIN 90 DAYS.

  30. Shamenda’s reign as ZCTU President saw the end of proper unionism in zambia. What can he do now for the people of ndola?Let him just go and shave,he looks like SHIIIIIIIIT.

  31. Zambians don’t need newspaper editors to tell them which way they should vote. Am sure they know what to do. The post, Daily Mail, Times of Zambia, LT and all the rest can just give over. The people are now clever enough to make assessments based on their economic situation.

  32. To PF- Mr. Sata/MCC. We understand how difficult it is to accurately adopt candidates people want. You have tried your best, but listen and find out by sendinding some MCCs to get the problems on the ground in those areas people are protesting. We cannot afford to sacrifice any constituency in preference to one person not preferred by the people.
Kindly sir do act now so that people can prove their point and quickly get into campaigns. People will work commitedly to what they want and mind you they are on the ground.
    All the best
