Share

Senior Chief Ishindi of the Lunda people of Zambezi District in the North-Western Province has thanked government for tarring the Mutanda-Chavuma road.

The traditional leader says the Mutanda- Chavuma road project which is near completion will greatly improve economic activity in the province.

Senior Chief Ishindi says the road will also boost business between Zambia and Angola.

He was speaking through his representative Smart Mushinzhi during this year’s Lunda Lubanza traditional ceremony at Mukanda Nkunda palace over the weekend.

Senior Chief Ishindi also pledged continued cooperation with government.

And speaking at the same function, Local Government and Housing Permanent Secretary Christah Kalulu said government will continue safeguarding the country’s cultural heritage.

  1. The road which is not even complate..it has taken mmd ages to complate the road. sign of not being serious.. we have to kick them out this time around.

  2. Upgrading and improving the national road network is any government’s responsibility for socio-economic development, the chief need not feel compelled to show gratitude it is made possible through taxation of his subjects

  3. @1, how can you kick them out? Use the pronoun “I” to mean you will vote against them. Others like me think differently especially regarding this road which has been outstanding for ages and RB has ensured its completion through the use of 3 contractors while KK only tarred a small portion of the road. Eng’a RB.

  4. How else is development delivered to people? Does the president need to sholve into his pocket to take development or is it through the prudent use of funds raised through taxes? Moreover, the road was started by UNIP and its completion is indeed a welcome move and the president needs to be commended for the effort, even if it was going to be PF to complete it, I am sure any well meaning Zambian could have commended PF as well. How is Sata going to deliver development if not through the use of money which is raised through taxes?

  5. Quick question whats the difference between development and constitutional rights? Is what we are seeing development or constitutional rights? Right to education, clean water, communication etc..

  6. #5 Yes, these developments are suppose to be constitutional rights, but we have seen former governments esp. the 10 years of the true blue mmd there was no such rights anywhere near the term itself. So to me where its due we should recommend coz even whoever will come we will bring them in the pretext that they will still fulfil trhe same rights which we call development.

  7. In the last five years, Zambia has seen the biggest artificial ‘bumper harvest’, record high copper prices and high FDI. But has all this translated into anything for me a poor Zambian? No. Am still being highly taxed, most contracts are given to the president’s allies and the Chinese and most of my fellow Zambians (75% plus) are living below K5000 per day. The conctruction of ths M8 road started a long time ago. Atleast Levy speeded up the process so much that when RB took over, he tried to slow it down but it could not work. And so when people say RB needs to go, they know what they are talking about. They want to be empowered to have food, to be able to build their own roads, to have a say in the governance of their country and not to pay TV levy for biased coverage.

  8. The bumper harvest is artificial because most of the figures are coming from already established commercial farmers who basically subotage the FRA monies while the poor people cannot even sell the little they harvest. How do you explain record high bumper harvest when 75% of people are going hungry (surviving on less than 5 pin per day)?

  9. Hahahaha  No 7 and 8

You need to come back to Zambia… you are making the people of Uganda look like i.d.i.o.ts with your thinking which lacks sense. In short you have gone to dilute Ugandian intelligence come back to the Bus Stop in Kamwala

  10. Do we need to thank government for providing  services we need? They ARE NOT DOING US SOME FAVOUR. Its their responsibility to look after us. We need to change our mindsets and make our leaders realize that they are in their positions because of us.

  11. This is the problem with ignorance and having an ignorant populace who think that govt projects are a favour. It  is your money chief, you need not be grovelling and thanking anybody for doing their job they are paid for, there is nothing extraordinary for any govt to construct ,roads, schools or hospitals etc, that is their job, thats why we pay tax.wHEN ARE WE GOING TO GROW UP  and stop this patronising and tuchawa behaviour?

  12. #1 At least the road is almost complete wheather you like it or not MMD has delivered on this one.FTJ not KK promised the people of N/West that once voted into power he’ll the Mutanda-Chavuma road.FTJ went to the donors to ask for funding they refused instead advised GRZ to upgrade it to an all weather gravel road which FTJ refused and decided to fund the road from government coffers.MMD must be very proud of this development they defied the donors who thought the road was uneconomical.Pankoloko Forever(PF) Ha,ha,ha,ha this year will be a year of pain watch this space……

  13. By the time the tar reaches Chavuma, repairs will have commenced on the road from Solwezi! Only wish the chief could say something about the total deterioration of Zambezi Boma and all the infrastructure. Funny planning that a new hospital was built at Chavuma while the existing one at Zambezi is literally in ruins. Imagine people now using ox drawn wagons as roads have become unusable even for bicycles. The last colonial District Commissioner for Zambezi would collapse if he visited the place today.

  14. Well done MMD & RB. However Zambian companies should be given contracts and not Chinese and RSA companies. In that way the economy will be boosted by government spending as opposed to foreign companies receiving contracts.

  15. What is the chief thanking the government for? Is it not the duty of any government to provide services? This is misplaced gratitude. Zambian chiefs have lost it.
