Fifty two Luanshya residents who were fired from Mwamona Engineering and Technical Services Company have urged government to intervene and help them get their outstanding terminal benefits.
The firm is co-owned by former Roan PF Member of Parliament Chishimba Kambwili.
The workers have told ZNBC News in Luanshya that they were dismissed by Mr. Kambwili from Mwamona Engineering and Technical Services in May this year.
But Mr Kambwili has allegedly refused to pay them their terminal benefits despite several reminders.
Group spokesperson for the former workers Michael Sifuke says the workers were dismissed after they questioned Mr. Kambwili on his decision to wave their salaries by over 35 percent.
And Martha Kayombo whose husband worked for Mwamona Engineering and Technical Services Company says she has no money to feed her children.
When reached for a comment, Mr. Kambwili advised the former workers to take the firm to court if they were aggrieved.
Mr. Kambwili denies owing the workers any money and says their claims are baseless.

My heart is filled with confidence and pride when I see the photos of the fit and trim future finance Minister Kambwili. Kambwili is of the calibre needed in the cabinet to turn Zambia into an upper middle-income country. I really admire Kambwili’s level headedness and the facts that he embraces and appreciates the contributions made by all of Zambia’s ethnic groups. Mr Kambwili, the future of Zambia would be safe in your hands and of course the allegations by those people that were fortunate enough to be employed by you are just government propaganda as there is no way you would treat Zambian workers in the way that they describe as you are a man of the people, certainly a much better employer than the choncholis who have taken over our land.

Actually Kambwili sounds logical than the so called former employees. He has rightly directed them to the right place if they feel aggrieved. That is were we take cases, not ZNBC. Why doesn’t ZNBC report on employees being tossed around by the mining foreign investors? Some of these employees want even issues that they know are closed and should move on to take political. This is the problem with a cadre nation. Can some one please inform these fools that the omly government entity that has jurisdiction for such is the one Kambwili told them to go to? Not ZNBC. @ Tom, auditors are getting 1.5mil as basic pay at Grant Thornton is this well paying in yo standards. And that with full ACCA qualification.
And what is the problem with a basic salary of 1.5? For your information, most companies have a low basic salary but high allowances. So shut up and if anything, the aggreved always move to greener pastures.
Tell benefits include leave pay and other allowances the employees were owed before they were fired. Labour office should come to the aid of the employees before tey can decide to go to court. Sounds like a case of unfair dismisal, did their contracts allow for salary and wage reductions? There is nothing political about this! They should get what is due to them, period! It appears local employers are worse than the foreigners.

Why should workers rush to news house than to arbitrators if they want their terminal benefits? Athough I dont support Kambwili and PF, this is a case for arbitrators……
If i am a politician doing business in Zambia,suddenly my workers should be paid K5million to be seen to care for the workers.A business is separate from politics.If you think you are poorly paid and yet overqualified,quit! simple.

…..right – labour issues go to court and not ZNBC. So how does the Govt help them anyway??Get a lawyer, pay him and stop wasting time at ZNBC – go to Court! also these were company workers and not Kambwili’s workers legally speaking.
A few weeks ago a similar case appeared in the press about former Rupiah Banda’s workers who are appealing for help to make the president pay them their terminal benefits that are now long overdue. So really it is not only Kambwili treating workers like dirt.

Then like what others have already said ZNBC is not the right place to go for your terminal benefits, go to court like advised by Kambwili who is just a share holder.

In addition to the above qualifications if you watched him during the interview on MUVI TV he said he just obtained an Masters in legislative not what you are telling us.

Kambwili at least can make it as a deputy minister but the rest am not sure maybe as DC’s. Just look at the debates of the likes of shamenda, Kazabu and the other PF cadres, it is just a joke to have them as ministers. I thought these two guys were great but i saw them to be useless, Kambwili, Simusa are a few who did well though Kambwili should not be so rude. He has to cool down because his points were diluted because of his rudeness

Kambwili is one of the senior most thugs in the Party for Fascists. The choice for PF ministers is limited – Kambwili (tribal hater), GBM (wife batterer), the Scotsman, and Winter (“Kill Them” ChiKamba. So Kambwili will be the PF Finance Minister, he has excellent credentials for prudence by not paying his workers at no notice.
Complaints raised by Kambwili’s workers are labour matters that can be resolvedd by the Labour Officer in Luanshya or Ndola. Such issues should not be linked to the electioneering mode because the same workers knew the political philosophy of Kambwili, but they vehemently supported and boosted the economy of a brutal politician who had no regard for the welfare of Zambians as demonstrated by his role as MP for Luanshya.
