Chienge Hospital project enters phase three

Share

Construction of the ultra-modern Hospital in Chienge District in Luapula Province has reached an advanced stage and is expected to be opened early next year.

District Commissioner, Freeman Kaputo and District Director of Health, Dr James Zulu confirmed the development to ZANIS in Chienge.

Dr. Zulu said two phases of the project which include construction of Wards, Operating Theatre and an Administration Block have already been completed.

ZANIS reports that he said the third phase of the construction which will involve putting up 10 staff houses, a female ward and landscaping of the surrounding is expected to commence in two weeks time.

The Director of Health has since commended Government for its move to construct a Hospital in Chienge, which has been without a health facility since it was given district status.

He said the move will greatly improve health service delivery in the area, adding that taking patients requiring level one treatment to St Pauls Mission Hospital in Nchelenge, which is about 120 Kilometres away from Chienge, will soon come to an end.

Dr. Zulu added that the opening of the facility will also help his office to channel resources to treating patients within Chienge instead of making referrals to Nchelenge.

And Chienge District Commissioner (DC), Freeman Kaputo said Government is determined to provide high quality health services to all the citizens of the Country regardless of whether they stay in urban area or rural areas.

He said this has been demonstrated by the construction of various hospitals, clinics and health posts throughout the country.

The DC said the development has been complemented with recruitment of various medical staff for the sector.

He revealed that apart from Chienge District Hospital, a clinic has been constructed in Lunchinda area near the border with the Democratic Republic of Congo while plans are under way to construct another clinic in Lambwe Chikwama area.

  1. You are miss using the word “ULTRA MODERN” Its just an average hospital in an average third world country. Nothing more nothing less

  2. When did phase one start? 11th hour projects !! Anyway Zambian voters are easily duped, cheated, and manipulated like one year old kids. Even when someone is insulting and stealing from them while they are looking, they will still vote for the same person who is stealing from them. I have never seen this kind of docility among Zambian voters. It’s sad. Anyway, go ahead and vote them back into power, mwalibelela ukuchula. The Chienge hospital project will finish all your problems.

  3. At #1 stinger, I totally agree with you. The word ultra modern has been misused. I am sure the hospital is not even a modern one. its just a standard hospital. An ultra modern hospital uses alot information technology regarding general day to day running of the hospital, high tech intelligent equipment, sophisticated ventilation systems and building materials. Ultra modern hosptals uses systems where patients can book into the hospital online or by phone. Zambia has not yet reached that stage. Not even UTH qualifies to be called an ultra modern hospital. Its not about the name but its about the level and quality of service and infrastructure. Lets not abuse the terms.

  4. @1 & 2
While I agree the term ‘ultra-modern’ is an exaggeration, we should give credit where it is due. The greatest killers of Zambians are malaria, TB and HIV complications and diarrhoea diseases in children. To cut the mortality rate by even 75%, we do not need those ultramodern facilities you are talking about, Zambians just need trained medics and paramedics with basic medical facilities. The rich people in Zambia succumb to western diseases like heart attacks, strokes, diabetes and cancers, they will have to go elsewhere.

  5. Please if you gonna use such words as “Ultra Modern” back it up with pictures, if you use words like that and I’m seeing solar panels, glass fascades, innovative building designs with zero carbon footprint!!
