President Michael Sata

President Michael Sata has arrived in Livingstone where he is expected to hold a public rally. President Sata is in the area to drum up support for Patriotic Front candidate Joseph Akafumba in the Livingstone central constituency bye-election.

The President arrived at Harry Mwaanga Nkumbula international airport aboard the presidential challenger at 11:10hrs today. He is accompanied by tourism and foreign affairs minister Given Lubinda and special assistant to the president for press and public relations George Chellah.

Mr Sata was received by Southern province minister Obvious Mwaliteta, provincial permanent secretary Edwin Zumbunu, heads of government and parastal departments.

President Sata visited road traffic accident victims in ward one and two at Livingstone General hospital. Thirty three people were involved in the accident and one person died on the spot on Friday. The accident occurred when the van they were travelling in overturned on the Nakitindi road opposite Livingstone old cemetery.

And all electoral materials for Thursdays parliamentary by-elections in three constituencies have been delivered.

The materials were delivered to Chama North, Muchinga and Livingstone constituencies over the weekend.

Electoral Commission of Zambia Spokesperson Cris Akufuna confirmed the development to ZNBC News in Lusaka on Monday.

Mr. Akufuna says the commission is satisfied that all is set for poll day on July 5.

And Mr. Akufuna has called on participating political parties in the three parliamentary by-election to observe the 48-hours provision on which to STOP political campaigns.

He said voters should be given enough time to reflect on different campaign messages that politicians have been delivering.

  1. In Zambia its a never ending electioneering like Sata is doing thats why zambia never develops. Can we confine campaigns to the election year and commit the other time to serious development?

    • Sata’s specialty is campaigning. He hsould be assigned President of campaigns. That’s why he was an effective opposition leader.

  2. We need to put an end to these bye elections. They are just a drain on our resources. Instead of developing Zambia, UKWA is busy flying around the country.

  3. Mr President heed to chipimo on Tribal conference…. But, We don’t need such, but what we do need is a serious National conference to brain storm on:1) Total overhaul of the Legal& JUDICIAL SYSTEM
    2) OVERHAULING THE EDUCATION SYSTEM &STRUCTURE to be responsive to Zambia becoming a PRODUCER as opposed to CONSUMER state .
    3) Brain storm, A MARSHAL PLAN for TECHNOLOGY TRANSFER in view of Zambia becoming truly economically independent &developed by 2030 onwards
    4) Come up with a workable STRATEGY for JOB CREATION and POVERTY REDUCTION.
by FORMULATING A 3 by 3 by 3 PRACTICAL PLAN of developing 3industries in each province thru PPP &FDI for job creation on the principle of GEOECONOMIC -GEOPOLITICAL distribution with tax free zones as incentives
    5) Agric, mines etc

  4. No.1 How do political parties sale themselves without campaigns?. MCS don’t personalise the campaigns just present your manifesto. Else they will use your message to decampaign your party

    • They can sell themselves thru good policies,a work ethic of putting in serious hours working for zambians and zero corruption. What we have now is not campaigns but empty rhetoric full of hot air and no actions. Its not how loud you shout that matters, its your actions.

  5. # 6 dont be shallow man. sata is the president and he cant be compared to every jim and jack. he will use the presidential jet, the govt machinery etc. he is at a vantage position. and thats the way the cookie cramble

    • 6 is right ,he should not be using govt machinery like you call it to campaign for PF .i think Kopala u need to google these things before you sart talking .blind supporting fools are what have got like you .

  6. The president is allowed to use govt transport during campaigns. That is how funny our rules are.

    • THIS IS THE REASON WHY WE NEED A NEW CONSTITUTION, Parties whether in power or not, NEED TO USE THEIR OWN RESOURCES!! Which would mean PF PAYING or MEETING SOME EXPENSES FOR THE PRESIDENTIAL JET & SECURITY for travel that is purely PARTY FOCUSSED!

  7. UPND will be tested for its popularity in livingstone hahahaha…Now Ba sata is called SATAN by zimbabweans in the diaspora, i was suprised this zim guy said are u from SATAN country, please keep ur maize we dont want it in zim, so i was confused, anyone to highlight me on what is happening at home on this maize issue with zim????
    Thanks

  8. Comrades, what about the ivory SAGA at Chilanga? Is the case still on? Who stole the Ivory? Please this issue should not be undercarpet.

  9. He is wasting his time, there is no sane person in Livingstone who will vote for his candidate. This is the extent to which this country is polarized by this most divistive of figures, Sata. He has virtually excluded Tongas and Lozis from his cabinet and yet he wants to steal a parliamentary seat at the confluence of the Tonga-Lozi culture, Livingstone! He will be shocked by the ridiculous percentage his lieutenant Akafumba will curve out. If I was HH, I will go campaign against CNP on tribal lines like he did against Mumba in Chinsali last week. It’s about time the snake is given a taste of it’s own vernom.

  10. @10, Tony Blair – that’s not entirely correct. Hardly “period” as you say.

When Air Force One is used for campaign travel, the campaign has to reimburse taxpayers for AF1?s operating costs (…try Google next time before you yap). How much is Mr. Sata reimbursing the Zambian taxpayer for his campaign jet?

Ok, this is probably not illegal as No. 8 points out (yes, funny rules!), but after all of PF’s jumping up and down about MMD’s use of GRZ assets, I only hope the pilot keeps a big bottle of antihistamine on board for allergies.

    • But should it be like that? And where do you draw the line – GRZ vehicles, GRZ planes…. if you’re so sharp, please tell us.

  11. Are Zambians in favour of the incumbent president and the political party in power to use state resources for political campaigns? We know it has always be like that and opposition parties dont like it, even though they continue with the practice once in power.

  12. I have to acquire around our passion on your goodness promoting folks who actually need assist with the bradenton area of curiosity. The genuine persistence for moving past the solution around was good and also have often urged staff as i am to arrive at their dreams.
