OIL Marketing Companies (OMCs) should play their role professionally in supplying fuel to all parts of the country, to avoid fuel shortages in some areas when the country has enough fuel, Minister of Lands, Energy and Water Development Christopher Yaluma has said.

He said companies supplying fuel to filling stations in different parts of the country must ensure they do their work efficiently so that all their stations have enough fuel. Mr Yaluma said this in an interview in Lusaka yesterday.

He said TAZAMA has enough fuel to meet the country’s demand. “For this reason, Government is disappointed with fuel suppliers in Choma who have caused the fuel shortage the area has been experiencing in the past two days,” Mr Yaluma said.

He attributed the fuel shortage in Choma to unprofessional conduct on the part of OMCs. He said the failure by suppliers to deliver fuel in different parts of the country is due to debts which they are avoiding to clear.

“For them to avoid increasing the debt, they decide to stop supplying fuel until they are able to pay the outstanding debt,” he said. Mr Yaluma said all suppliers are given seven days to pay their arrears but some companies do not want to do so.

“I will soon meet with the OMCs to find out what is hindering them from being effective in their work of servicing their stations. Fuel is a very important commodity which plays a major role in driving the businesses of the day to contribute to the country’s economy,” he said.

  1. Why don’t Zambian leaders include RESIGNATION in their press releases??? Passing the buck is so lame and so disgusting…

  2. But seriously!!! Do these suntwes honestly think they are presiding over a country of grade threes like their head suntwe Ukwa? What kind of ‘tell them something’ excuse of an explanation is this? You PF oportunists obviously have no idea why there is a shortage, so can you just keep quiet! Don’t you get tired of your foot falling out of your mouth everytime you open it?

  3. This is just an indirect blame on government for failing to regulate OMCs. They operate under laws and regulations and government has failed to regulate leading them to cut corners. So who is to blame ultimatley, govt…….everybody say, Gov!!!!

  4. Passing the blame on OMC’s in accepting failure on the part of the minister to effectively manage his ministry and he should resign forthwith. These people thought running a Country was child play but now faced with reality, the seem to be a disorganised lot with no proper direction as they have lamentably failed to outline their economic policy for the nation.Instead they have resorted to knee jerk reactions which has left them look not only foolish but de oriented and their political and economical ineptitude exposed for all to see. Imagine just after nine months in power and everything is in shambles. There is no short cut to success but feasting on lies will not take these Political Fools (PF) no where.

  5. It is sad that every time there is a problem with feul supply in the coutry or part of the country this ministry puts the blame on another party or on logistics. It seems this minister thinks all there is to his job is to finger point. Mr Minister it is your job to find solutions and translate your govt policies into regulations and rules to govern the energy sector. Chances are that you do not even know what your role is in that ministry. You are not a public relations person, but a minister.

  6. A bad carpenter always blames his tools… I think someone should resign for dropping the ball on the people of Zambia…

  7. Useless Chief blamer minister of what ever. If the people riots, it will be done well ,that is the Kaponya spirit we have adopted to rule this nation-pure failures{pf}
