MMD and PF will never match infrastructure development under UNIP reign

UNIP leader Tilyenji Kaunda

United National Independence Party (UNIP) President Tilyenji Kaunda says the Movement for Multiparty Democracy (MMD) did not exhibit Christian values during its twenty year rule because abuse of authority and misapplication of funds was the order of the day.

Mr Kaunda observed that a number of irregularities in the use of public resources were reported in the Auditor General‘s report each year adding that some went scot free.

He commended the Patriotic Front (PF) government for exposing the MMD corrupt ways of governing the country.

Mr Kaunda was speaking when he officially opened the UNIP audit and mobilization meeting at Fern Guest House in Chipata yesterday.

“A lot of money went missing from government coffers, yet very little was done to curb the situation,’ he said.

Meanwhile, UNIP Vice President Njekwa Anamela said the MMD has nothing to show for its twenty year rule of the nation.

Mr Anamela said the MMD failed to deliver to the people of Zambia during its tenure and noted that last minute efforts to construct and rehabilitate roads failed because the party was already out of favour hence its losing the election.

He boasted that the MMD and the ruling PF have never and will never match what UNIP did in infrastructure development.

“Our party has a track record that will never be matched by even the PF which has already exhibited an incoherent manner of governing,” he said.

And Mr Anamela said there was need to have good agriculture policies that will motivate farmers in the country.

He stated that the capitalist way of thinking that the forces of demand and supply determine prices of products will lead to an economic downfall.

“Government should not allow farmers to be subjected to poor market prices of cotton on pretext that prices are determined by demand and supply,” he said.

The UNIP Vice President stated that it is sad that farmers who account for more that 50 percent of the Zambian population have been denied and government should have considered addressing the cotton issue.

  1. Tilenji, dont talk about MMD. UNIP lost to MMD terribly. Talk about how u shall resurrect the sunken UNIP. U have been a causer for all the mishaps UNIP is going through. U have failed to inspire UNIP, failed to add on to it;s rank and sold all its assets. atase iwe.

  2. I want to join UNIP because it has a track record in service delivery as compared to all these other pretenders. People insult UNIP from the same roof sheds that its government constructed without shame.

  3. In terms of infrastructure development during MMD misrule, I agree with UNIP, but its premature to extend the same observation to PF.
PF’s creation of more districts on its ambitious devolution of power program will set the stage for bringing development closer to the people, hence more infrastructure will be developed.

  4. BA TILYENJI 50 YEARS OF RULERSHIP AND ZAMBIA STILL LOOKS KWATI NI PA CIBOLYA ISN’T AN IMPRESSIVE RECORD AT ALL.WITH RESPECT FOR KK TOGETHER WITH ALL ZAMBIANS FOR LIBERATING ZAMBIA AND THE SOUTHERN REGION OF AFRICA, BUT KK ALWAYS STANDING AGAINST A FROG DURING ELECTIONS AND CALLING ZAMBIANS STUPID *****S ISN’T DEMOCRATIC AND CHRISTIAN AT ALL. ZAMBIA COMPLETELY CAME TO IT’S KNEES DURING UNIP. WHOLE THIS WAS BECAUSE STATE MONEY WAS USED BY UNIP- MAINTENANCE OF ALL UNIP PROPERTIES WAS ON THE EXPENSE OF TAX-PAYERS’ SWEAT.

  5. “He boasted that the MMD and the ruling PF have never and will never match what UNIP did in infrastructure development.”
ELO NAIMWE BA Anamela, MULEKE UKULOTA. YOUR STATEMENT IS WISHFUL THINKING. YOU WISH PF FAILING TO DELIVER. YOU CAN’T COMPARE A GOVT WHICH HAS BEEN THERE FOR FEW MONTHS TO A GOVT WHICH RULED FOR HALF A CENTURY. ARE YOU MAD? SO, YOU DON’T WANT ZAMBIA TO DEVELOP JUST FOR YOU TO PROVE A STU.PID POINT? YOUR COMMENT IS INVALID BECAUSE BOTH MMD AND PF HAVEN’T RULED AS LONG AS UNIP RULED. OF COURSE WE KNOW THAT MMD WAS LEADING ZAMBIA INTO A DITCH. BUT WAIT FOR PF TO FINISH THEIR TERM(S) B4 YOU EVALUATE THEM AGAINST UNIP.

  6. unip did well socially but not economically. unip inherited reserves from colonialist and zambia was among the richest countries in africa but by the time they were leaving the office in 1991 zambia was left with the debt of 7.3 billion dollas which was unfortunate.

  7. Unip did not build roads in northwestern and western province. Neither did unip build an electricity grid in these provinces.

  8. How much debt did UNIP leave Zambia in again?
The profligate spending of UNIP is what Zambia is yet to recover from. We were making inroads but f.oolish people chose Ukwa…….

  9. On face value, the statement is true. But we can analyse further and look at the reasons why UNIP performed and why MMD failed. Indeed MMD did not find as much money as UNIP found. But MMD were also careless and thieving. PF? Too early to tell. But we shall have clues in the next two years as to wether we can surpass UNIP. I am sure we shall beat MMD record.

  10. unip atleast mmd malabishi and pf no future no direction no money no everything awe mwe 2016 we waiting for come now we want change.ati pabwatoooo kekekekekeke papapappapap malabishi! sheshesheshe..

  11. oh hes talking about infrastructure, not a fan of UNIP or any poltical party but i will have 2 agree with Tilyenji or who ever he calls himself, though UNIP is not a political party but a family business so theres nothing 2 boast about.

  12. oh, hes talking about infrastructure,i dont like and will never like UNIP or any zambian political party cos they are all the same.though i do agree with Tilyenji or who ever he calls himself, but theres nothing 2 boast about after all cos UNIP is not a political party but a family business venture.

  13. I do not usually answer posts but I am going to in this case, great information?- I will certainly bookmark your site. Keep up the good operate!’s a Very good, very useful to me, Thank you very much post.

  14. He could be right but he must remember UNIP inherited far much more money from the colonialist than MMD or PF. Then they went about losing (stealing) it until we were deeply in the red when MMD took over.

  15. In 26 years time there will be no one in power with hands on experience of the UNIP era. Let’s see whose roots will sprout universal empowerment over politicking by party. My money is on the next generation to undo all the damage but they will have the hard task of unseating the current generation who will still want to hang on as they have been taught to do by their experience of ‘no room for youth’. Hard to believe it was 20, 30 and 40 somethings who had a shot at running things back in the sixties. How quickly they forgot :)

  16. @4. you must be very blind. You are talking about what UNIP has and not done. MMD stayed in power for 20 years. Unip stayed in power for 27 year. the difference is only 7 years. We could have given MMD another 15 year and believe me they could not have done not even a quater of what UNIP did. Lets talk about road. During Kaunda’s time, all roads in places like kabwata, kamwala, libala, kabulonga matero in shot KU na Kwa were all tarred. If today u notice a pot hole, before the end of the week it was not there. Gabbage collection was excellent. How did he maintain the roads? He had what they called road camps every where including far distant places. When travelling for example from nakonde to lusaka, every 200kms you would find a road camp.

  17. @4 Continues. I guess that time around you must have been breast feeding or you were probably not even thought of on this earth. Tell me about just one school where you found pupils sitting on bricks and being taught under the tree. You must also tell us or show us one of Kaunda’s ministers who drove his own benz apart from being driven in those mercs 123 models. Stealing in govt was never heard of. You defend MMD and yet they arethe ones who created people like HH, Kapoko, the peter Dakas, siliya, the sakalas just to mention a few. think twice before you speak of MMD. Even the so called Pf is heading the same. Roumer has it that there so many divisions within the party with the kabimba and other trying to scoope the presidency. UMOZI AZAFA MU PF LINDILANI CHE. BONSE BENE GBM they boast

  18. when they are acting presidnet ati ” Dont call me HONOURABLE ndemiteka bafikala”. Tachiweme. Ma Soja as body guards Mbwe ba minister of defence ka. Nizanu!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! epompelele

  19. @ 20 Do your home work well. Please be factual and not just say things. Ask yourself, how did your may parents or grand fathers go to school for free and having books, pencils, milk at break time and an education without paying for it. Do you know how much a kwacha was to a dollar in 1987 or even 1991? Kunalibe thousands in exachange for a dollar, we were talking 70 kwacha and if we go way back around 1984 it was 5 kwacha to a pound mwaice ala.

  20. That??s a nice post.we will come back again’s a Thanks for the marvelous posting! I seriously enjoyed reading it. post.

  21. It is very true that no political party has nor will ever surpass UNIP in infrastructure and general development of Zambia. But it is equally true that UNIP inherited the best economic climate that Zambia has and will ever enjoy. If UNIP should is judged in that light they owe the people of Zambia a lot of explaining. There’s no party that was so priviledged and squandered it all the way UNIP did.

  22. You lost all your brians after shaving.they have been a lot of building after 1996. what are you talking about unip never left a serious road

  23. This is what happens when a party leadership prostitutes itself with the governing party for a few favours, UNIP has been in bed with MMD for the past 12 years, they have become irrelevant and obsolete to the political scene. Their president become a tool of MMD during campaigns that’s why as a party they have nothing to offer to Zambians.

  24. Incredible! Sometimes it is a genuine really useful web logs We have ever can come all around on this subject subject matter. Basically Good. My organization is one more professional during this subject matter thus might grasp your effort.
