CHIPOLOPOLO coach Herve Renard has admitted that the 1-0 in over Uganda in yesterday’s 2013 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier was below expectations.

The Frenchman, however, remains optimistic his team will qualify to defend the Africa title in South Africa after the second leg scheduled for October 13 in Kampala.

He said during a press conference at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium that his team has a chance to redeem itself in the second leg.

“We had a chance to score more goals but we did not. We were not efficient today. We have to be strong and be well-organised in Kampala.

I am happy that we did not concede any goal, it is a positive thing but I will be a liar if I say I am happy with the result, I am not because we had an opportunity to score but we did not,” Renard said.

His Uganda counterpart Bobby Williamson said Zambia played better and deserved to win.

He said the Chipolopolo were well organised but that the slender loss gives Uganda an opportunity to win in Kampala and qualify for the finals.

“I am happy but also disappointed. We tried our best,” he said, also noting that the side is youthful and missed a couple of key players.

Chipolopolo skipper Christopher Katongo said he is happy with a win, noting that it is never easy to maintain a winning streak as champions.

“A win is a win, that’s what is important. We will go to Kampala with a 1-0 lead but it is not going to be easy,” Katongo said.

Uganda skipper Andrew Mwesigwa believes both teams have equal chances of qualifying to the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations finals despite Zambia taking the lead in the first leg.

Former President Kaunda was excited with the fans who cheered the Chipolopolo throughout the match although he expected an avalanche of goals.

Football Association of Zambia president Kalusha Bwalya said Zambia created enough chances especially in the first half.

“It was a good game. We won…a win is a win despite the score line but we have to ensure we go to Uganda to record another positive result,”Kalusha said.

Minister of Sport and Youth Chishimba Kambwili said he is happy with the result but not the score line.

Kambwili assured the fans that the Chipolopolo will record a positive result in Kampala and that government will do everything to ensure the team is adequately prepared for the return match.

The Zambia Voluntary Soccer Fans Association patron Peter Makembo said the slender win puts the Chipolopolo on a rough road and that there is need for improvement in the second leg if Zambia is to pull through.

“As fans we are happy with the win but we are not comfortable with the score line but all the same, we need to improve. If we can go there score a goal or two and defend then we are done,” Makembo said.

Chipolopolo Soccer Fans Association chairman Yotam Mwanza said Uganda will start as favourites in Kampala but that does not give them an edge over Zambia.

  1. Zedians, we just have to hope for a miracle in Kampala now. The Ugandans are not pushovers like Senegal or Zimbabwe.

  2. Herve costed the match by his initial line up. Chisamba and Sakuwaha would been starters in place of Felix and Chris. Why bringing in worn out Chamanga who missed 3 golden goals and also substituting anchor man Isaac. Its time to give C,S and M 90mins as Chris can no longer play 90mins.Uganda were well co-ordinated and expect miracles on Oct 13 if Renard cannot change his game plan of depending on finished so called experienced players.Lets play talent and not names.

  3. Reinard need to change his game plan.He should not allow chamanga to play again.Chris should have been substituted. He got tired. Lets see how we play in Uganda. And what has happened to Jacob Mulenga. He was not even on the bench?

  4. HERVE, THAT MEANS YOU HAVE TO PREPARE HARDER THAN 100% NOW. AND I WONDER WHY PLAYER CAME TO START PREPARING A WEEK OR FEW DAYS BEFORE THE MATCH.

  5. Thats no execause, remember for uganda to qualify to this stage they were beaten 4-1 in congo brazavelle but they manage to off set that margin by crashing congo brazavelle 4-0 in kampala. So renard must be careful

    • If there was a stage that Uganda needed to redeem all its pride that has faded with every passing Nations Cup qualifying campaign, it doesn’t get better than this!
If there was ever going to be a moment for Cranes to announce themselves among Africa’s football elites, that was it. chipolo still has the instruments of a win!

  6. The problem with Renard is that he still plays names at the expense of performance.Jonas Sakuwaha is the top scoree in Sudan but marginalised by Renard…The game was pathetic,,the subsitutions showed how much panic was on the bench. The only consolation is that Uganda packed 9 men in defence but will attack in Kampala hence exposing their defence

  7. what’s wrong with us Zambians always critising,we are being. Coaches and players on this blog leave the team be so far we have had the opportunIty to feel the Glory of afcon champions and if we loose so be it even the best team in the world wins some and lose ,brazil was beaten by Mexico in London for the final gold match but they have been champions many times that’s just the order of the world it does not only rotate on Zambia but everywhere,we are not playing nor coaching our national team because we don’t have what it takes so for once stop being analysts behind computer screens and watch how the events unfold, don’t be chipolopolo supporters be chipolopolo fans, this tendencies of convenience support should be put behind.

  8. Herve Renard was fired in Angola partly for losing in Uganda 3 – 0. I thought he learnt a lesson and should have avenged that result. The 1 – 0 win is Good but NOT very Good. We have put some prressure on ourselves. Anyway Uganda needs two tough permutations to qualify whilst we need the easier ones. They need to beat us by a scoreline of 2 – 0 or 3 – 1. we need to lose 2 – 1 or any draw to qualify.,

  9. What is this all about to continue using FELIX & CHRIS Katongo, probably the ineffective player at the moment. There were:
Sakuwaha, Chisamba, Chamanga, Chivuta, Ndjovu and the real man Jacob. All those were demolised on the expense Chris Katongo demanding to play along his brother whom nobody hear about in that Angola?
Substituting man of the match Chansa and leave Chris bulling all Zambians, come on Kabwili fire that Renard. I think the speculations that HR impregnated Katongo’s auntie were true. Why on earth Chris should be deciding who should he play with?

  10. Renard, Must find a reliable goal scorer who must start scoring for Zambia. The trend shows that we are always winning by slender margins and must improve otherwise we are not going to the Africa Cup and World Cup finals.

Mayuka has shown that he is not reliable when he has been called upon to score goals for us.The midfield also looked slow in distribution of balls and the team lacked cohesion sometimes. Our team must improve in quickness  because they allowed the Ugandans to take possession most of the time. Renard must recall Clifford Mulenga who has learned a lesson for the seek of Zambia going through.

  11. @ KAFULAFUTA, i totally agree with you coz zambia wil not go and let them win easily.they wil also run and mak sure good results come.lets not refer to congo brazavile. i hav a filling that zambia wil go to AFCON.U WIL REMEMBER ME GUYS.

  12. NJEKWA #6 YOU HAVE A POINT. FOR ME, JUST THAT ZAMBIA WON THE AFCON IS STILL SWEET. I WILL SUPPORT THEM EVEN IF WE LOOSE IN ZAMBIA. WE WON THE TROPHY FOR ONCE. DON’T JUST CONDEMN, COMMEND AND BE PATRIOTIC PLEASE ! SOCCER IS NOT EASY; BIG TEAMS CAN EVEN LOOSE TO A SMALL TEAM AT HOME !!!!!!!!

  13. if we had won by many goals we would have become complecent.Pressure is on Uganda and all we need to do is go score a goal and ensure they don’t.Best form of defense is attack.Go chipoloplo go

  14. I agree with #6 Njekwa and #13 MT, you guys are talking sense. Always the best way to express issues. Forward Zambia!!!

  15. most zambians ve a chicken heart, why after this slender lead people are talking nonsense about zambia. chris nd his brother ve done wonders for us why demonise them. Zambia ll pull thru. The only worry am having is on mayuka. His move to english premier league may rob him of skill and tactic coz the EPL is just full of physic no skill no brain needed.mayuka ll soon be amateur fluffing clueles footballer thats i see in the epl.

  16. Let’s just look forward to the next game and prepare adequately….this is the reason why i always tell you guys and your FAZ to take friendlies seriously its an opportunity for players to gel….what point of sending a team B to South Korea when they won’t play in the next game?

@Tony Blair so you telling me Muyuka learnt more in the Swiss league, you do not watch all EPL games and you are clearly clueless….best you keep your ignorance to yourself.

  17. @9
Of all the names in cyberspace you choose that one….it shows lack of creativity  and utter laziness on your part.
    Wake up

  18. Its high time we seroiusly stoped using this katongo chap,if Renard kijes him so,let him come in after goals have been scored. Alikwatako tumo tumo, ngabalilapo ukwingisha kano engishe tubili ninshi elo akakulako. Tress his record from his days @ bufalloes. Wheneva wev won more than a goal its either tengisheko or engishe after nabengisha or ewingishe tonse. Lucky for his formular it keeps dat jersouy on him.

  19. @22 jay jay okocha, my ignorance as u rightly put it tells me in term of skill, tactical and technical, the EPL is the least in europe no wonder it cannot produce internationaly acclaimed players for its national team, cannot produce native national team coach for a long time, all top clubs are owned and coached by foreigners, 80% of players who feature in weekend matches are foreigners, look at the amateurish of the referees making comical decisions week in week out, it takes a coach in the epl to be at a club for 27yrs to win 2 champions league. This is just an overrated, overhipped league.[-(

  20. jay jay! Most zambians glorify the epl out of primitivity and lucky of local entertainment. I find the zambian league more skillfull than epl where players fluf, misplace paces, no decent shots on goal and overly predictable. england ll never win the world/euro cup simply coz its a below par nation skillwise.[-(

  21. @24 UNCLE D, yours is the most primitive, stoneaged assumption ve ever listened to in my whole life.pliz spare us this demonic talk, it was just not our day to score more. How can you go into filth down memory lane dustbin of what used to happen at buffaloes? I get the feeling you are the provider of evil football charms. Chris is a fine player let him play as long as he can last. Even rooney under performs some days.

  22. TONY BLAIR

Don’t confuse me for a fan of the English National team that’s the same as accusing a Scottish or Welsh person who supports an EPL team as an England fan….grave mistake that can cost you a black eye in the pub. England national team’s problems are more to do with their ingrain style of play from childhood if anything the foreigners compliment the league not the other way round. Which team won the Champions league last season? Who did they beat along the way? And I’m not a Chelsea fan.
As for Refs making mistakes, refs in Spain, German, Italy make the selfsame mistakes or even more BUT as the spot light is on EPL..you assume they make more.
When our teams start wining the CAF club cup that’s when you should start making such comparisons…

  23. Chris is the man of the moment for Zambia, so stop kubwatabwata bangwele. He has always ade us proud, his young brother ok kuti mwalanda but the boy is equally swarp. Cranes are nothing , we won and shall win again in Kampala, HR cannot be beaten twice in kampala, their magic will not work in kampala, come Chris go and score another goal in kampala.

  24. I hear in Uganda, its very hot. I would advise our officials to go there soon and see what can be better for our preparations. We tend to camp in South Africa were the stadia are good and not considering were our main focus is. Many are the times we have failed and more of excuses that the weather was bad. Lets prepare our selves according to what we will find in Uganda. If the stadium is bad, let us identify our local stadia and see which one is ideal

    • Plz don’t talk like Zambia is some second world country with moderate facilities, Its as poor as most african coubtry actually should be the poorest southern africa country. So when u talk pitches and the only one is ur newly opened Ndola, in uganda Namboole where the game will be is bigger than Ndola. Otherthan pride do some research atleast since u have internet connection

  25. @10. Njekwa you are right. We are all aware of what happened to Egypt and what is about to happen to Cameroun. the Cape Verde has wired Cameroun 2-0. So let us not be on the criticizing side. Lets learn to encourage our boys. They made us happy a few months ago up to now.

  26. Hey pipo stop this superstitious thing about Chris, instead we should praise him highly the boy always runs his lungs out as the skipper to help chipolopolo win matches,it’s high time others follow his die hard playing ability period,go sambia.

  27. jay jay, when you open your mind and eyes wider to other world football leagues including faz/mtn, ll agree with me that EPL has no quality football but brutal physical contest. Ist any wonder the injury rate in EPL is higher than any league. In the epl all you need to be good at is running from one end to another..skill is less considered.

  28. CHRISTOPHER KATONGO USES JUJU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
NEXT TIME IF C.KATONGO SCORES FIRST,SUBSTITUTE HIM BECAUSE NO ANY OTHER
PLAYER CAN SCORE IF HE SCORES FIRST -UNLESS HIM ALONE.HE’S A JUJU MAN.REMEMBER THE FOLOWING MARCHES;ZED Vs GHANA AT LPM STADIUM,ZED Vs E.GUINEA(AFCON),ZED vs EGY(AFCON)ENDED 1-1,ZED VS S.AFRICA.ENDED 3-1 IN FAVOUR ZED.IF HE WS SUBSTITED EARLY,WE COULD HAVE GOALS FROM MAYUKA,CHAMANGA,FELIX OR SUNZU. ¿¿

    • Hey, I also heard about this ordeal. Rumour has it for sure that once Chris scores first, then no one else will score. Fellow fans, lets take this up and let Herve Renard know about this. When Chris scores, make sure he is substituted there and then, then only goals will keep on flowing from other players. Failure to do so, no one else can score.

  29. Chipolopolo the Barcelona of Africa is still the thing Nothing will stop them from advancing!Confidence, zeal, courage team work…..! we shall shine!!

  30. christopher Katongo must not be allowed to score, because when he scores especially if he scores first then no one will score., unless he he scores all the goals alone! What was Felix Katongo doing in that game? was he also another spectator on the picth?I dont agree with the coach’s substitution of Isaac and not chris or felix.the stricking force must have comprised jonas, jacob, chisamba and mayuka, all the same uganda here we come

  31. zambians simply cant shoot. they dont pack power in their shots. we dont have long range rocket launchers in our strike force. that ka Kalaba is sharp but weak.

  32. Zambians are just a bunch of superstitious uncivilised people. Does Messi use Juju? Does Ronaldo use juju? Does RVP use Juju? What a bunch of nonsense. Instead of commending Chris, you go on about Juju stories.

  33. let renard retire katongo chris he has done his part i thot he should have bean sub number 1 in place of isaac chance.chansa had a good game

  34. I don’t think Uganda was goin to just seat back and watch Zambia wack them. It was to be a fight. Remember Uganda also trained hard for this game, Infact they said they never even wanted to stay long in Zambia for they only came to pick their 3 points, but did it happen? Most of these criticizing have never done a thing for the nation. Zambians lets learn not to pull each other down every time. Even Barcelona sometimes don’t play well.

  35. Purchased these dark glasses being a Xmas gift idea showed up punctually and fantastic problem. My buddy influences military services and dark-colored is just permitted so works well. He adores them.
