Zambia Were Lucky to Beat Us-Onyango

Share

Uganda keeper Dennis Onyango  believes Zambia were lucky to beat The Cranes in Saturday’s Africa Cup qualifier at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola.

The Africa Champions struggled to beat Uganda in the first leg of the final round match scoring a first half lone goal via skipper Christopher Katongo to silence the vistors.
Onyango said Uganda can overturn the 1-nil defeat and qualify for the 2013 Africa Cup to be hosted by South Africa.

“Obviously, we knew it was not going to be easy playing against the African Champions. But we managed to contain them, they scored one goal and to be honest they were lucky. Katongo was there on the right time to score,” he claimed.

Onyango added that the 1-nil away loss in Ndola was not a bad result.

” 1-nil away is not bad. It is still 50-50, we will be playing at home and we know we can do it. We can beat them (Zambia),” he said.
On 13 October, Chipolopolo will confront The Cranes away in Kampala in the decisive return leg.

  1. Zambia please prepare adequately. Every team including small ones prepare very adequately and put in an extra mile when the play Champions.Do not underrate anyone

  2. Jacob Mulenga will b needed for the nxt encounter…..the problem is that we’re not clinical enough to put clear cut chances to our advantage.

  3. I think Onyango is a little too big-headed. While it’s true that the Cranes are not a push-over team, they were the under-dogs and still remain the under-dogs even in the return match. They stand a good chance to up-set the tables in the return match, but it surely may not be too easy a task for the Ugandans.

  4. You were just beaten. Now Zambia prepare adequately this time. Go and beat these guys bad. 3-0, the goals we want. Go go go Zambia iyee Chipolopolo.

    • Zambia can’t beat the cranes at thier home turf. so many african giants can attest to that.
Nigeria,Ghana, senegal,Niger,Guinea,Congo,Angola all have faced the wrath of the cranes at home.Remember Cranes net buster did not feature in Zambia so wait for the next story of Goliath(zambia) falling down for the little David(Uganda).

  5. @pato iwe it doesn’t matter how many teams have fallen at their home ground! What if we had lost or drawn the match ?wat were u going to say? We won the game! Period.we shall beat them again!

  6. Just shut up because it’s you who were luck to lose by a goal to zero, wait for the return when you will cry at your own back yard,go Sambia,go chipolopolo.

  7. With such a dismal goal margin, you give room to chatter boxes like this dick. Next time, HR shud exclude prehistoric players like Chamanga, Joseph Musonda, Felix Katongo. to give chance to new, vibrant and energetic players willing fight for a place in the national team.

  8. Make sure the Zambia Soccer team is free from ebola, which was recently announced in Uganda, otherwise a neutral ground will be required.Chamanga, Felix,Jonas are finished players but one wonders why HR has so much faith in them. They completely played rubbish and destroyed our expectations.

  9. HR how true is it that when Chris Katongo scores a goal first then he locks up the scoring chances for the other players. In short does your players use juju.

  10. The rantingz of this Ugandan goal-minder are a clear psychological warfare which should be viewed withe contept they dezerve. Of course you can only have one team “lucky” when two oppozing sidez come face to face…

  11. Dennis Oyango should not be BIG HEADED a win is a win be it 10-0 or 1-0. I have respect for the Cranes they played a frustaring game. But end of the day we won. We will beat them in their own back yard as they will play an open game.

  12. pressure will be on the Cranes to score atleast 2 goals with the hope that Zambia does not reply. In this case, they shall all of them push forward leaving them vanurable at the back and we shall counter them with our fast football , score a goal or 2 then it will be over. I can see Zambia scoring alot of goals in Uganda than they did here.

  13. To the contrary its Uganda that were luck to lose 1 – 0 because they just packed the bus and had only one shot on goal.Their passess were uncordinated save for few individual runs here and there.

The good part is they wont have to pack the bus in Kampala and thats how Zambia will find more opening to score. I predict 1 – 0 score for Zambia in the first 45 minutes with a final score of 2 – 0 because they will surely open up…

  14. Honestly zambia r not as good as u think. They r very lucky to be african champions but they r not even in top 10 best teams in africa. I reckon corrupt CAF fixed for them to be champions for sentimental reasons as annivasary of the death of that great Zambia team of old in Gabon. Without this fixed fairy-tale ending that tornament would have been a complete disaster becoz there wasnt any interest or spectators  throughout all the games . Anyway when you come to kampala we waiting to give you a big surprise. We also happen to have the best african juju football witchdoctor,he can turn ball shots into bullets, so bring your best as well . :-?:-?

    • Luck or no luck, … two more bullets and the Cranes are done. Sorry, you will have to wait until 2078 for another appearance at AFCON.

    • Cranes…you got to learn, we shall teach you a lesson at your Nambole whatever!Infact you got no skill. We outplayed you at LM, you will appear at Afcon in 9178!!

    • Mr. the days of name calling are gone. just because drogba plays for Chelsea does not make him the best player or ivory coast the best team. we are the champions because we won. Please check your records properly. we lost our first qualification game and from then on we won all the of the games until we reached the Africa cup final. mind you qualification are home and aware. drew twice. you call that luck. we beat all the three favorites… is that luck. by the way we have started defending and guess what you have been beaten

  15. Players like James Chamanga and Mbesuma are now heavy for today`s mode of football. James is tough but a bit slow. More agile legs are needed now. I rest my case

  16. There is no big and small team in African football any more.Since Zambia managed to shock Ivory Coast with all its super stars likewise Uganda can beat them in Kampala come 13/October,2012.See how Cameroon and Nigeria are strugling.

  17. Ba Uganda LISTEN: Katongo will score again to silence you at Nambole and the match will finish 1 nil…hahahahaha!!! next year he will be scoring just like that in SA…whilest you are busy talking Copper Bullets are Scoring Sheild GOALSSSSSSS!!!! let’s go Chris let’s go Zed

  18. I think this guy is pushing thier luck 2 far now let them wait until they will be completely finish them at thier own backyard, come October 13 Go Zambia Go.A win is a win and remember we are the champions.

  19. Can Chris Katongo tell the nation why when ever he scores no other player will score? Just near misses and raising BPs on the country….. Chris, please inga nibola yabwanga, leka otherwise you are killing us. Wilakaka amoolu yabanoobe. No wonder you cant break in the English League. Twanaka noobe mune,

  20. Number 22 , the team you beat 4-0 were relaxed because they were leading 3-1 from the first leg ! Zambia are only leading 1-0 so it will be folly for you to expect another big win ! And watch out for our away goal ( which Uganda failed to score because of their negative tactics ) . As for the AFCON win , we just worked hard for luck to come our way !

  21. The Katongo issue all i can say its mare coincidence that when he scoresno other player scores this goes way back to the zed 3-0 sa he scored the hat-trick,am not a superstitious kinda guy but lets see wat happens in the return leg i can see an interesting game.Advice to the team, lets play an open attack game first twenty minutes to get that quick goal and then change the tactic to catch on the break with counter attack we will carry the day.:d

  22. Abena Zambia! Rather than appreciating the fact that Chris comes to our rescue when it matters most by scoring important goals, we bring in the primitive superstion thing.

  23. The match will really be tough. Herve Renard should go for an attack minded game, hence the Ugandans are capable of punishing the African Champions if our boys play a defensive game. Can Chipolopolo make history by beating Uganda at Nambole Stadium and record a victory since Bafana Bafana beat them back in 2004.

  24. We did all we could in that and our boys must be appreciated, I don’t subscribe to mediocrecya, Katongo is a strike and scoring in every game is one of the marks of the strike. Can some one tell me bwanganshi bwakakile Chamanga, those two chances, Mayuka for what could have been an early goal, find out from the clubs where these our strikers come from, do they score, if not Katongo alabako, Drogba even if it means ukuyaponena palibola, he doesn’t mind as long as he scores and that’s what our captain is capable of, one thing I know about witch craft is its never consistent.

  25. the cranes…wait one..chipolopolo will come and clip your wings forever..no doubt about that..forget ur accidental win over the red devils of congo..i think we did a double on them 2006 world cup qualifiers which Togo won.they were a better side then than now. Anyway as long as you decide to play football this time around..we are whipping u again but if u pull wat u did in ndola..standing on the goalmouth for 90minutes with the entire team..then will score another goal. By the way..that goalmouth strategy, Is that wat u call football in uganda and ur are happy about drawing?.No.. no no.thats cheating..fifa should punish teams behaving like that..one attack on zambia goalkeeper 82 mins into the match..obviously ur opponents should not even score although zambia still managed did score..
